Important details:
• The use of surveillance cameras in public areas is regulated by theData Protection Act 1998 and requires
thepermission of your local authority. Theuse of camera surveillance on private property is also regulated
by theData Protection Act. Nopermission is required from thelocal authority, but those monitored must be
informed that they are under surveillance. TheInformation Commissioner’s Office has compiled aCode of
Practice governing theuse of security cameras. Forfurther information visit www.ico.gov.uk.
• If you have afirewall / router you must configure your computer router settings and router port settings
(see your router user guide) to enable image display and manoeuvring of theDVR system from acomputer
outside your local area network.
• In order to connect to acomputer on your local area network, you will need to enter theDVR’s IP address
in Internet Explorer’s address field. Ifanexternal display screen is connected, you will be able to see
theaddress under Main menu-System-Network. TheIP address should also be found using therouter’s
software. Therouter will allocate theDVR system anIP address.

1. Safety
• The product should not be taken apart or modified. Certain exposed parts inside thecasing carry
dangerouscurrent. Touching these can lead to fire or electric shock.
• Do not cover theproduct. Adequate ventilation with adistance of at least 15 cm between ventilation holes
and thesurrounding area is necessary to prevent thedevice from becoming toowarm.
• Use only theincluded or recommended mains adaptor.
• Ensure that thepower supply to themains adaptor is 230 V/50Hz.
• Do not place theproduct where there is arisk of it falling into water or other liquid. Donot place any objects
which contain liquid onto theproduct such as vases, drinks.
• Never subject theproduct to high temperature, dust, heavy vibration, impacts, humidity or moisture.
• Do not abuse themains lead. Donot carry theproduct by its mains lead and do not unplug theproduct by
pulling on themains lead – always grip theplug itself. Makesure that themains lead does not come into
contact with heat, sharp edges or is crushed.
• Unplug themains lead during thunderstorms or if theproduct is not to be used for alongtime.
• Do not attempt to repair, dismantle or modify theproduct in any way, it may only be repaired by
aqualifiedtechnician.

4. Installation
4.1 Placement
• Place theDVR indoors in aclean and well-ventilated place with atemperature of 0–40 ºC.
• Place video cameras in as much shelter from wind and rain as possible.
4.2 Connections
4.2.1 Video cameras and video recorder
1. Connect thecamera cables (a) to theextension cables (b).
Note: Theextension cables are labelled at each end, near theyellow BNC connectors. Theconnectors
labelled TO CAMERA SIDE ONLY should be connected to thecamera cables and those labelled TO DVR
SIDE ONLY should be connected to CH1 – CH4 on theback of theDVR.
2. Connect thepower cables of thesplitter cable (c) to thecameras.
3. Connect thesplitter cable (c) to themains adaptor (d).
4. If theDVR is to be connected to anetwork, connect anetwork cable (e) from theDVR to your router.
5. Connect theincluded BNC-RCA cable (f) form theV-out on theDVR (29) to theRCA Video-in on your
surveillance monitor/TV, or connect adisplay screen to theDVR’s VGA output (32) using aVGA cable
(soldseparately).
6. Connect theyellow BNC connectors on theextension cables to thecamera inputs on thevideo recorder.
Thecamera intended as camera 1 to VIDEO IN 1, thecamera intended as camera 2 to VIDEO IN 2, and
soforth.
7. Connect the splitter cable’s (c) “DVR” plug to the video player.
8. Connect themains cable (g) to thepower supply unit.
9. Connect theincluded mouse to one of theDVR’s USB ports (27 or 36).
10. Connect themains cable (g) to apower socket.
4.3 Connecting an alarm
It is possible to connect aburglar alarm to thesystem.

5. Operation
5.1 Turning the DVR system on
• Connect themains lead to a230 V, 50 Hz
powersocket.
• If thesystem has been connected correctly as
described above it will come on as soon as it is
plugged in or as soon as thepower socket is
switched on.
• Turn thedisplay monitor/surveillance TVon.
• The display will show images from all of
theconnected cameras and blank screens for
those channels which have not been connected.
Thereal time transfer rates (kB/s) of every
channel are displayed.
• The system records on all channels. Tostop
recording, right-click and select Record mode
and then Stop. PressOK to confirm.
• The system is designed to record over theoldest
material on thehard disk when it isfull.
2. Click on System.
5.2 Changing languages
1. Right-click and select Main menu from themenu,
alogin box will appear. Press OK to continue.
Right-click again and select Mainmenu.
3. Click on General.

Language.

5.3 Logging in to the system
The system has no preset factory password for
logging in. Right-click and select Main menu from
themenu displayed.
The first time this is done, aSystem Login box will
appear. ClickOK to login.
6.1 Record
The Record menu also has 3 sub-menus:
RecordConf, PlayBack and Backup.
In order to enter apassword, refer to theMain menu
– Advanced – Account section below.
6. Main menu
Right-click to access thefollowing menu and select
Main Menu.
Mainmenu
The main menu has 6 sub-menus: Record, Alarm,
System, Advanced, Info and Logout.
6.1.1 Record Conf

Recording settings. There are settings for:
• Channel: Recording channel.
• Length: Recording time.
• PreRecord: The set buffer time recording starts
before thescheduled recording starts.
• Mode: Whether therecording takes place
according to schedule, manually or is stopped.
• Week: Selection of aday in theweek or everyday.
• Period: 1–4: Timeof therecording
• Regular: Whether therecording is to take place
with apredetermined time interval.
• Detect: Whether therecording is to be activated
by amotion detector.
• Alarm: Whether therecording is to be activated
by analarm.
The Advanced tab has selections for:
• UpWindow: Back.
• Show Desktop.
• Copy and paste: Therecordings from periods
1–4 can be copied.
a. When thesettings for e.g. channel 1 are
ready, select Copy from theAdvanced tab.
b. Change to e.g. channel 2 and select Paste
from theAdvanced tab.
c. The settings are copied to channel 2.
• Default: Factory default settings.
• HDD Manage: Harddisk management.
6.1.2 PlayBack
Playback recorded material from all or selected
cameras.
1. Double-click on thedesired channel for
afull-screen display.
2. Hold down theleft mouse button and draw
asquare around anarea if you wish to enlarge
that particular area.
3. Click on thesquare you just drew to enlarge it.
4. Double-click on theenlarged square to return it to
normal size.
5. Select achannel and double-click on thestart
times at thetop right of thescreen to start
playback from thespecified time.
6. The start and finish time of thefiles is displayed.
7. The size of thefiles is shown inkB.

Note: Thehard disk icon only appears when
thedesired file is selected.
Hard disk: Clickon thehard disk symbol to enter
thebackup menu (refer to backup below).
Magnifying glass: Clickon themagnifying glass
symbol to enter thesearch menu.
• File Type: Selectall files or those activated by
Alarm, MD, Alarm/MD, Manual or General.
Selectwhether thesearch is to take place on
Read/Write or on Backup Device.
• Channel: Selectfrom which channel thesearch is
to takeplace.
• Start Time: Selectthestarting time of thesearch.
• End Time: Selectthefinishing time of thesearch.
• Play Mode: Has3 sub-headings:
- Skip Mode: Thedecoding of channels
1 and 2 is prioritised, giving them better
picture quality. Theother channels share
theremainder of theprocessor capacity,
giving them poorer picture quality.
- Average decode: Theprocessor capacity is
shared equally, giving equal picture quality to
all channels.
- Full decode: Allmaterial is decoded (every frame
is played back at maximum picture quality).
Thiscan slow down theplayback speed.
• Sync Mode: Playback on all channels follows
thesame timeline. Thisfunction is primarily used
with Full decode since thechannels with better
resolution (channels 1 and 2) would otherwise lag
behind theothers.

Playback controls Backup
Enterthemenu for determining which files are to be
copied and onto which storage device. Thepicture
shows thefollowing setting:
1. Play/pause
2. Backwards/pause
3. Stop
4. Slow play in 4 stages, where 4 is theslowest.
5. Fast play in 4 stages, where 4 is thefastest.
6. Reversed playback, one frame for every press of
thebutton. Note:The playback must be paused.
7. Playback, one frame for every press of
thebutton. Note:The playback must be paused.

6.1.3 Backup
Saverecorded material onto aCD/DVD or aUSB
flashdrive.
Detect
Detectconnected storage devices (CD/DVD writers
or USB flash drives). Thepicture shows aUSB flash
drive connected for thestorage of recordings.
• Type: Typeof file which is to have abackup
copy made. (All, Alarm, Motion Detect,
Manual,General).
• Channel: Selectfrom which channel therecording
is to be backup copied (All).
• Start Time: Desired starting date and starting time
for thefile search (e.g. 2011–12–02/13:00).
• End Time: Desired finishing date and finishing
time for thefile search (e.g. 2011–12–02/16:00).
• Remove: Removes thedisplayed files from thelist.
• Add: Clickonce to list thefiles which satisfy
theset file attributes. Note: Ifyou click once
more, thesame information will be addedagain.
The picture shows thenumber of files found (8 pcs),
File name and Length. Clickon theChannel box to
select or deselect all files. Ifall files are selected they
will all be copied onto theconnected storage device
(if there is room). Clickon thebox for each file to
select or deselect them. Deselected files will not be
copied onto thestorage device.
• Required/Remaining: Makingbackup copies of
thefiles requires 11.69 MB of capacity and there
is 1.85 GB of available capacity remaining on
theflashdrive.
• Backupformat: Selectin which format thefiles are
to be saved, H.264 orAVI.
Note: Amedia player for playing thesaved filed on
acomputer can be found on theincluded CD-ROM.
Burning
Anexternal CD/DVD burner with aUSB connector can
be connected to theUSB port on theDVR for burning
real time surveillance material onto aCD/DVD.
Note: Compatible with themost common brands on
themarket.
