1 Introduction of GG-H16 Handheld Receiver
GG-H16 handheld receiver features:
l GPS+GLONASS dual-systemreceiver.
l Built-in antenna and support external antenna.
l Built-in electriccompass and altimeter.
l Color display.
l Supported languages: simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese and English.
l To support electric map.
l Built-in 32MB highcapacitymemory.
l Easyoperation.
l To support various map datums.
l Rugged design.
l Waterproof.
1-1 Contents of Product
The standard product pack includes:
l One GG-H16 handheld receiver.
l PCinterface cable with car cigarettelighter adapter (1.2meters)
l One User Manual.
l OneCD-ROM for Tool Software.
l One externalantenna for GPS/GLONASS (5m).
l One camouflage carrybag.

1-2 Noticeof Operation
l Thisreceiver should be used in areas with good skyview.
l Do not cover thepartof antenna.
l Please use the rubbercovertoblockupthe jack of external antenna whennot usingthe external
antenna to ensure thewaterproof performanceof the unit.
l When the unitis placed horizontally,anincludedanglebetweeninteriorantenna of the unit and
the levelwillbe15degree. Inorderto obtainthe bestreceivingresult,the unit should befaced
to sky directlyandmaintain an includedangle withthe levelof 0-30degree.If the electric
compass is used alone, the unit should be kept horizontal as far as possible.
l Thereceiver should bekept awayfrom devices transmittingRFradio wave.
l Please use four AA 1600mAH/2000mAH, 1.2V batteries.

1-4PowerRequirements
The GG-H16 operates on thegeneral vehicle power (12VDC/24VDC)or four AANi-MH batteries
(1600mAH/2000mAH@ 1.2V DC).Please followthe sign “LOCK”on theback cover androtate the
knob counterclockwise toremovethebackcover. Theninstallbatteriesaccordingtopolarityof(+)
and (-)ofbattery.Afterbatteries are installed, close the backcover andturn the knob clockwise to
lockcertainly,sothat ensures thewaterproof performance of the unit. If external powerandbatteries
are supplied at the same time, the GG-H16 willprefer to use external power.

l Power on/off
Ø To press POWER key for 2 seconds to turn on the unit.
Ø To press POWER key for 3 seconds to turn off the unit.
l Backlighton/off
Ø Topress POWER key for 1second toturn on the
screen backlight.
Ø Topress POWER keyfor 1second again to close the
backlight.
l Satellite Page willbe displayed and searching for
satellitesignal when systemjuststarts, as shown inleft
figure.
l If thesatellite signal is good, your positionwillbe
resolved within60seconds andthe screen will display
the message “ReadytoNAV ”.Nowtheunitis readyto
providenavigation functions to you.
Functions of theGG-H16 are divided intopages

Every page asshowninleftfigure will provide
with
the messages or functions as follows:
l Battery Indicator:
²Green: high capacity
²Yellow:middle capacity
²Red: lowcapacity
l GPS Fixed Indicator:
² G: Good GPSsignaland position resolved
² ?:AcquiringGPS signal
² X: No Receiver Signal or Receiver Closed.
l Command button ( ): to execute page-
specific
commands.

l Use MENU key to instantly switch to Menu page.

GPS Satellites (the concentriccircle inleft)
and
GLONASS Satellites (the concentric circle in right
).
The innercirclerepresents anelevation
of45degree
and the outer circledenotes 0 degreewith north up.
l Signal Intensityfor Satellite:
² Green:>=36dB
² Yellow:>=27dB
² Red: <27dB
l The unitwill display “ReadytoNAV ”
andthe
longitudeandlatitudeof your current positiononce
it can geta location fixed.

l Select MapDatum icon in MENUpageto activate
Map
Datum page.
l In Map Datum page, the correct map datum
can be set up.
l Using the UP DOWN,LEFTandRIGHkey toselect
the
desired map datum. Press ENTER to finish setting.
l Using the ESC key tomove the highlight
toexitthelist
box of Map Datum. Usingthe
UP/DOWN keyto move
the highlight
toCommandbuttonto access optional
commands.
l The GG-H16
supports180 kindsofmapdatums,
including WGS84, TWD67, TWD97 and etc, as well as
reserves oneset of map datum that you
candefine
yourself.
l Using the Command button toaccess [
EditUserDatum]
function.The screenwilldisplay User Datum
Page,
which caninput Map Datum parameters defined by you.
Refers to adescription of Mark Page for datainput.

l If you want to mark the current position and
increase
adatabase of waypoints,select
MarkicononMenu
PagetoactivateMarkPage.
The defaultvalueof
columns inMarkPageisyour currentposition,
which can be saved or edited directly.
The methods to changevalues are as follows:
² In Select Mode(whiteon black):
The highlighted columnis the target one (w
hiteon
black), in which the
UPandDOWNkeyis used to
select thecolumn to beedited and the
ENTER keyis
used to enter edit mode.
² In edit mode (black on yellow):
The
UPandDOWNkeyisused to editcharactersas
wellas the
LEFTandRIGHT keyis usedtoselect
characters tobeedited. After completing
the column
modification, press the ENTER key to end e
dit mode
and return to select mode (black on white)
l Be aware ofusingthis function
onlywhenthe unit
resolved your position.
l Data format:
² Nameof Waypoint:8characters in length
.Legal
characters are0…9,A…Zandblank,the first
character of which must not beblank.
² Nameof Route:11characters in length
.Legal
characters are0…9,A…Zandblank,the first
character of which must not beblank.
² Waypoint names and routenames
donothavetobe
unique, but we suggest not using
duplicatednames
to avoid confusing.
l PressingtheENTER keyfor3seconds can
also
mark your current position.

l Waypoint Pageprovides functions to browse, create
,
delete, edit,andstore waypoints. You can
activate
Waypoint Page on Menu page. Usingthe UP
and
DOWN key toselecttherangebuttons (0...9,
A...Z)
to assign the namerange of waypoints to be browsed
.
Press theENTER key
to executeclassification, the
screenwillonlylistwaypoints that conform
tothe
range. You can usethe UP and DOWNkey
toselect
waypoints, andcolumns belowwilldisplaydetails
of
selected waypoint at the same time.
l Waypoint capacity:1000.
l The
ENTER keypressed afterwaypoint is selected
candisplayCommandMenu, whichincludes
followingfunctions:
² New Waypoint: Thecolumn below this page
can be
used to build a newwaypoint.
² Go To: Single-
waypoint navigation is activated,so
that the waypoint is selected asthe destination.
² Edit:
The columnbelowthis pagecanbe used to
modifythe selected waypoint.
² Delete: Todeletewaypoint selected
.If waypointis
used in aroute, it will not allowbeingdeleted.
² DeleteAll: Todelete allwaypoints promptly.
² Copy: To copywaypoint promptly.

Routes canbeconsistedoftherelatedwaypointsas the
basis ofnavigation. Route Pageprovides functions to
browse, create, delete, modifyandsaveroutes. Route
Pagecanbeaccessedon MenuPage. The
UPand
DOWN keycanbe used toselect aroutean
dview its
detail on the columns below thepage:
l Route Capacity:100.
l WaypointCapacityfor Each Route:40.
l The
ENTER keypressed after waypoint is selectedcan
displayCommandMenu, whichincludes
following
functions:
² GoTo: Routenavigation is activated,
so that the route is
selected as the destination.
² Edit:The columnat thebottomof this pagecan
modify
the contents of a route.
²
New:The columnat thebottomofthis functioncan be
used to build a new route.
² Delete: To deleteroutesselected.
² DeleteAll: To deleteallroutes promptly.
² Copy: Toquick duplicate selected route.
² Reverse: Toquickduplicateselected route and
reverse
its waypoint sequence. Thus the first waypoint
in the
original route willbecome
the lastwaypointinthe
duplicated route.

l The columnbelow Route Page can beusedto
modify
route name andwaypoints inside aroute. When
editing
waypoints insideselected route, use the
UPandDOWN
key to select waypoint and then press theENTERkey
to
access one of following functions:
² Add WPT: Toadd a newwaypoint to the selected route.
² Change: Tochange the inside of waypoint
intheselected
route.
² Remove: Toremove waypoints insidethe selected route.
l Using the ESC keyto end waypoint modification.

NMEA, Disable or Debugcanbe setinPortMode.
WhenNMEA is set asoutput, the GG-
H16 will output
the followingsentences of NMEAwith4800bps,8data
bits,no parityand 1 stop bit:
¥ RMC: 1HZ
¥ GGA: 1HZ
¥ GSA: 1HZ
¥ GSV: 0.2HZ
² Time Format: 12 hours or 24 hours.
² Unit: The Inch Systemor the MetricSystem.
² ReceiverOff: Toturnoffthe receiver
powercanreduce
power consumption.
²
LCDPower Save: Systemwill automaticallyreturn off
power ofLCD backlight withoutanyk
eytouchingin
30 seconds to reduce power consumption.
²
ArrivalAlert:The messageforthe arrivalcan be
displayedwithin10meters or10minutes from a
distanceof the target points.
² BatteryLowAlert.
² Over Speed Alert.
² Brightness of LCD Backlight: 0….9.
² Contractof LCD Display:0….9.
² Speed Limit.

TimeAdjustment:Universal TimeCoordinate(UTC
offset).

Time andDistance forTrack: Systemcan automatically
record thetracksincondition oftime (0

seconds)anddistance (0….255 meters). Time set as

second represents no track recording.

l Selecticonoftheelectric compasson Menu Page

switchtoCompass Page. This page
provides the
magnetic northazimuth. Please make calibration
while
usingthe electric compass at thefirsttime
accordingto
the following procedures:
Ø Select the [Calibration] buttontostart
calibrating.
Beware of keeping the unit horizontal while calibrating
Ø Please rotate theunitcounterclockwise wh
ile
calibratingso that thered
pointer onthetopofthe
screen can keep in the same direction.
Ø Amessage will be showed
after calibration is
completed.
Ø Use the[Save] button tostore the result.
Next timeyou
can use the[Load] button toloadthe result directly
.
Whentheenvironment ischanged, just likeexchanging
batteries will result in defaultvalue invalid
,please
re-calibrate accordingto the procedure above.
Ø The greenpointer inCompass Page is shown
after
calibration ordefaultvalue loaded. It meansthat
the
electric compass isworkingproperlynow.
The green
pointer indicates magneticnorth.
l When using electriccompass, the unit
shouldbe kept
farawayfrom magnetism stuffs andkeep its
levelto
reduceerror.

l Altimeter icon canbe selected on Menu P
agetoenter
Altimeter Page. This page provides:
² Altitude of Air Pressure.
² GPS Altitude: Onlyfor reference.
² Atmospheric Pressure: In mill bar
² Verticalspeed: Itis in meter/secondorfeet/
second
and the positive value stands for increasing altitude.
² Altitude variation chart: Time range(from
20seconds
to 2hours)canbechanged from the C
ommand
button, andthe system will adjustthe rangeof altitude
automatically.
² Altitude correction:keyingin
your current altitude to
the column “Input Alt”and press the
F1 key tosave it.

l ColdStart function canbe
used toreactivate
GPS/GLONASSreceiver
underanyofthe
followingsituations:
² Not used for long terms (>30 days).
² Distance between your currentlocation and last
fixed location exceeds 500 kilometers.
² Unable to get alocation fix in an open skyarea for
10 minutes
l PC Link canbe selected on Menu Pageto
maintain
data. Dataof waypoints, routes, historical track
sand
systemconfigurationcan be savedto the PC
endor
downloaded from the PC end.
l The ESC or POWER key is used to end PC Link.
l Please refer to instructions of GGH16SYNC.

l Track Page

followtimeanddistance set onSetupPagetorecord the
track in circulation and displaythecurrent track.
l The currenttrack is saved RAMand willget
lost after
power off. It canalsobeeliminatedby select the [
Clear
(F2)] button.
l
You cankeepyour current trackafterpoweroffby
savingit as ahistorytrack.History tracksare keptin
flash memorywhere data won t get lostafter power off.
l An “S”symbol displayedonthescreen represents
the
startingpoint of a track,and asterisk represents
a
destination of the track.
l Four historical tracks can be saved totally.
l Each track can have a data capacityof 1000 positions.
l Before the currentrecords are full, you cansavethem
as
a historical track.Whenthe current track is fully
,the
GGH16 will automatically circulatetherecords
andkeep
the latest 1000 track point after then.
l
Press [HistoryTrack] to highlight one ofhistorical
tracks. Use the
UP/DOWN keyto viewdifferent
historical track.Press the
ENTER keytoaccess
followingfunctions:
² Go To:To navigate followingthe selected track.
² Go Back: To
navigate followingthe trackwithreversed
direction. TheESC/ENTER key can
endtrack
navigation.
² View: The trackcan be viewedin fullscreen mode.
In
fullscreen mode, UP
,DOWN, LEFTandRIGHTkeyare
usedtoshiftthe track; furthermore, F1/F2 keycan zoom
the track. The ESC and ENTER key can end track view.
² Delete: Todelete the historical track selected.
