Photo Booth: Photo Booth lets you snap, save, and send selfies and videos with fun AR effects
through the Photo Booth App. You can access saved photos or videos from the Photos App on
Portal or via the Portal mobile app. You can also use your voice to control effects by saying,
“Hey Portal, put on a mask,” “Hey Portal, remove the effect,” or “Hey Portal, next effect.” Note,
using “Hey Portal” to control AR effects only works on Messenger.
Music: Enjoy Portal’s room-filling sound for listening to your favorite music throughout your
home. Play music from Tidal, Spotify, Pandora or iHeart Radio. You can also connect your
device as a Bluetooth speaker and play favorites from your phone. Spotify, Pandora and iHeart
Radio are pre-installed on your device, and additional apps can be downloaded via the “Portal
Apps” icon on your home screen.
3rd Party Apps: Portal offers a variety of 3rd party apps and experiences so you can get the
most out of your device. Apps include CBS News, Food Network, Spotify, Tidal and more.
Download these apps by selecting the “Portal Apps” icon on your device and tapping “add” next
to the experiences you want. You can also download Portal’s browser, which gives you access
to a range of content, including videos on YouTube.
Digital Photo Frame: When you’re not on a call, Portal’s Digital Photo Frame can display your
favorite photos, videos and important notifications like birthday reminders, so you always feel
more connected to your family and friends. Add photos from Facebook, Instagram or directly
from your phone using the Portal app. To add photos to your Digital Photo Frame tap “Add
Photos” from the Photo Frame screen and then select the Facebook photo albums you’d like to
display. You can also do this by going to Settings and tapping “Digital Photo Frame.” To add
photos from your camera roll, download the Portal app and select the photos you’d like to add.
At any time, you can return to your Digital Photo Frame by tapping on the “photo” icon on the
top of the home screen.
Privacy Settings: Portal was created with privacy, safety and security in mind. And it has clear
and simple settings, so you stay in control. You can set a 4-12 digit screen lock passcode on
Portal to control access to your device, disable the microphone with a single tap, and slide the
integrated lens cover for a physical indication that the camera is off. A red light next to the lens
indicates the camera and microphone are off. You can also use the integrated camera cover if
you’d like to physically block the camera lens, but still want to receive incoming calls,
notifications, and use voice interactions (note, the microphone needs to be on to use voice
controls).
