Read the Operating Instructions/Notes!
1 Safety instructions
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and
all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings
and instructions may result in electric shock, fire
and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future
reference.
The term „power tool“ in the warnings refers
to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or
battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
Always wear protective goggles because
of possible dangers when sanding.
The manufacturer’s handling and processing
instructions must be observed without fail if ex-
plosive or self-igniting dusts are likely to occur
during sanding.
Harmful/toxic dusts can occur during your work
(e.g. lead-containing paint, some types of wood
and metal). Contact with these dusts, especially
inhaling them, can represent a hazard for operat-
ing personnel or persons in the vicinity. Comply
with the safety regulations that apply in your coun-
try. Connect the electric power tool to a suitable
extraction system.
To protect your health, wear a P2 protec-
tive mask.
2 Correct usage
The sanders are designed for sanding wood, plas-
tic, composite materials, paint / varnish, filling
material and similar materials.
Metal and materials with an asbestos content
must not be processed with these tools.
The user bears sole responsibility for
any damage or accidents resulting from
incorrect use.
3 Noise and vibration information
Typical values established in compliance with EN
60745:
Sound pressure level 72 dB(A)
Sound-power level 83 dB(A)
Measuring uncertainty allowance K = 3 dB
Overall vibration levels (vector sum for three
directions) measured in accordance with EN
60745:
Vibration emission level
(3 directions) ah= 5,0 m/s2
Uncertainty K = 2,0 m/s2
The emission values specified (vibration, noise)
were measured in accordance with the test con-
ditions stipulated in EN 60745 and are intended
for machine comparisons. They are also used for
making preliminary estimates regarding vibration
and noise loads during operation.
The emission values specified refer to the main
applications for which the power tool is used. If
the electric power tool is used for other applica-
tions, with other tools or is not maintained suf-
ficiently prior to operation, however, the vibration
and noise load may be higher when the tool is
used. Take into account any machine idling times
and downtimes to estimate these values more
accurately for a specified time period. This may
significantly reduce the load during the machine
operating period.

4 Electrical connection and operation
WARNING
Risk of accident if the machine is operated using
unauthorised voltages or frequencies.
- The mains voltage and the frequency of the
power source must correspond with the speci-
fications on the machine’s name plate.
- In North America, only Festool machines with
voltage specifications of 120 V may be used.
Switch (1.2) is an on/off switch. For continuous
use it can be engaged with the lateral locking
button (1.3). Pressing the switch again releases
the lock. Only ETS 150/3 EQ, ETS 150/5 EQ: See
Fig. 3 for connection and disconnection of the
power cable.
5 Electronic control
The ETS 150/3 EQ, ETS 150/3 E, ETS 150/5
EQ, ETS 150/5 E has an electronic control
with which the rotational speed can be
varied step-free.
This allows the sanding speed to be adapted to
the optimum level according to the material con-
cerned (see Chapter 9). The speed is set using the
rotary control button (1.1).
6 Dust extraction
CAUTION
Dust may be harmful or cause allergic reac-
tions!
• Alwaysconnectthe machineto adustextractor.
• When performing work that generates dust,
always wear a dust mask.
6.1 Inboard extraction
The machines are fitted with inbuilt extraction as
standard. The sanding dust is extracted through
suction openings in the sanding base (1.13) and
trapped in the turbo-filter (1.5).The turbo-filter
has to be changed when it is so full of dust that
the extraction power diminishes.
Inserting a turbo-filter
- Push the front cardboard section of the turbo-
filter with the sealing lip (1.4) onto the extraction
nozzle (1.9) of the filter holder
- Insert rear cardboard section with slot (1.6) onto
the retaining strip (1.7) of the filter holder
- Push the filter holder with its opening (1.11) as
far as it will go onto the extraction nozzle (1.12)
of the machine and clamp tight by turning rotary
knob (1.10).
6.2 External extraction by an extraction
unit
In order to avoid frequent changing of the turbo-
filter when carrying longer sanding jobs, it is
possible to connect a Festool extractor to the unit
instead of using inbuilt extraction.
In this case, the extraction pipe (Ø 27 mm (1.8))
of the extraction unit is connected to the suction
nozzle (1.12).
7 Choice and installation of the sanding
disks
7.1 Choice of sanding disk
The appliance can be fitted with three sanding
disks of different hardness depending on the
surface to be treated.
Hard: coarse sanding on surfaces, sanding at
edges.
Soft: universal for coarse and fine sanding, for
flat and curved surfaces.
Super-soft: fine sanding on formed parts, curves,
radii. Do not use on edges!
7.2 Assembly
The sanding disks and the tool-holding fixture on
the appliance are equipped with a positive holder
(2.1).
CAUTION
Risk of injury
•Make sure the sanding disk is correctly posi-
tioned before screwing it tight.
•For safety reasons, only use original Festool
sanding disks!
8 Attaching sanding material
Always use original Festool sanding materials!
The appropriate Stickfix sanding paper and Stick-
fix sanding felt can be fastened quickly and easily
onto the Stickfix sanding base. The self-adhesive
sanding material (1.14) is simply pressed onto
the sanding base (1.13) and held safely in place
by the Stickfix sanding base velcro surface. After
use, the StickFix sandpaper is simply pulled off.
9 Operating instructions
Never overload the tool by using too
much pressure!
The best sanding results are achieved when ap-
plying moderate pressure. The ETS 150/3 EQ,
12
ETS 150/3 E gives the best surface quality and
low abrasion. The ETS 150/5 EQ, ETS 150/5 E
provides high abrasion with good surface qual-
ity. The sanding performance and quality depend
mainly on the choice of the right sanding material.
Festool offers the appropriate sanding material
for all applications (seeFestool catalogue or on
the Internet under “www.festool.com”).
We recommend the following settings on the
rotary control (1.1) for electronic machines:
rotary control setting
- sanding work
5 - 6
- sanding with max. drive
- sanding old paint
- sanding wood and veneer prior to painting
- interim sanding of paint on surfaces
4 - 5
- sanding of thinly applied primer
- sanding of wood with sanding vlies
- sanding edges on wooden parts
- smoothing primed wooden surfaces.
3 - 4
- sanding full wooden and veneer edges
- sanding in the grooves/rebates of windows and
doors
- interim paint sanding on edges
- pre-sanding natural wood windows with sanding
vlies
- smoothing wood surfaces with sanding felt prior
to staining
- rubbing down stained surfaces with sanding
vlies
- rubbing down or removing excess lime paste
with sanding vlies
2 - 3
- interim paint sanding on stained surfaces
- cleaning natural wood window grooves with
sanding felt
1 - 2
- sanding stained edges
- sanding thermoplastic synthetics
10 Sanding base brakes
The sanding base is braked by a collar (2.2) in
order to prevent any uncontrolled excessive speed
of the sanding base. Because the collar wears
down in the course of time, it has to be replaced
by a new one (order no. 453 388) as soon as there
is any reduction in the braking effect.
11 Maintenance and care
WARNING
Risk of accident, electric shock
• Always pull the plug out of the socket before
performing any type of work on the machine.
• All maintenance and repair work which re-
quires the motor housing to be opened must
only be carried out by an authorised service
workshop.
• Check the plug and the cable regularly and
should either become damaged, have them
replaced by an authorised after-sales service
workshop.
The cooling air vents on the motor housing must
always be free of blockages and clean to ensure
air circulation.
12 Disposal
Do not throw the power tool in your household
waste! Dispose of machines, accessories and
packaging at an environmentally-responsible
recycling centre. Observe the valid national regu-
lations.
EU only: European Directive 2002/96/EC stipulate
that used electric power tools must be collected
separately and disposed of at an environmentally
responsible recycling centre.
13 Accessories
Use only original Festool accessories and Festool
consumable material intended for this machine
because these components are designed spe-
cifically for the machine. Using accessories and
consumable material from other suppliers will
most likely affect the quality of your working
results and limit any warranty claims. Machine
wear or your own personal workload may increase
depending on the application. Protect yourself and
your machine, and preserve your warranty claims
by always using original Festool accessories and
Festool consumable material!
The order numbers of the accessories and tools
can be found in the Festool catalogue or on the
Internet under “www.festool.com”.
14 Warranty
For our tools, we give warranty for material and
production defects in accordance with the locally
applicable legal provisions, but in any case for at
least 12 months. Within the EU member states,
the warranty period is 24 months (verification
13
through invoice or delivery note). Damage caused
by, in particular, natural wear, overloading, incor-
rect handling, or damage caused by the operator,
or damage caused through use of the equipment
contrary that specified in the Operating Instruc-
tions, or damage which was known at the time
of purchase, is not covered by the warranty.
Furthermore, damage caused by the use of non-
original accessories and consumable materials
(e.g. sanding pads) is also excluded. Complaints
can only be recognised if the tool is returned while
still assembled to the supplier or an authorised
Festool Customer Service workshop. Keep the
Operating Instructions, Safety Instructions, Spare
Parts List and purchase receipt in a safe place.
Otherwise the respective, current warranty condi-
tions of the manufacturer shall apply.
