product. Thank you.
This product – as well as the accompanying rechargeable batteries (accus) – has been developed according to the
latest state-o -the-art o technology and will be steadily developed urther as required. The Charger complies with
the European Sa ety Standards and VDE (Association o German Electrical Engineers) regulations.
Please read this manual carefully pri r t the first use, y u will get imp rtant inf rmati n f r use and safety
f the unit. These safety and perating instructi ns sh uld be retained f r future reference.
Sh uld y u have further questi ns, please d n t hesitate t c ntact FISCHER AMPS.
WHAT YOU SHOULD OBSERVE BEFORE FIRST COMMISSIONING !
When ch sing y ur rechargeable batteries, ensure that they are suitable f r fast charging. Particularly
lder r very cheap batteries are ften n t admitted f r this type f charging.
New rechargeable batteries
- The batteries supplied with the unit are already charged. Y u sh uld charge all batteries first bef re
using them, since they discharge after a l ng st rage time.
- The maximum capacity f the rechargeable battery is nly achieved after several charging/discharging
cycles.
What y u sh uld n te in general when w rking with NiCd and NiMH rechargeable batteries:
- Do not dispose o batteries in domestic waste, but take them to a battery collecting point.
- Use nickel/metal-hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries instead o nickel/cadmium (NiCd) batteries, since NiCd
cells contain environment-polluting and unhealthy heavy metals. NiMH batteries have a higher capacity and thus
longer operating times.
- Do not charge batteries in extreme cold or hot (> 40 °C) conditions.
- Always store a rechargeable battery in charged condition when the rechargeable battery is not used or a longer
period o time.
- A ter a longer time o non-use, recharge battery be ore use.
(NiMH batteries have a sel -discharge rate o approx. 10 % per month when not used.)
2
H w y u n tice that a rechargeable battery is defective r ld:
- The operating time o the unit working with the rechargeable battery decreases considerably.
- The rechargeable battery does not accept charging any more (status LED o the charging chamber lashes red
immediately a ter inserting the batteries and does not switch over to ast charging (red light) a ter a longer period
o time).
Functi nal descripti n f the FISCHER AMPS Chargers:
The FISCHER AMPS ALC 89 charger has 8 charging chambers in which 9 V block batteries are charged
individually. Each o the charging chambers is controlled separately. A ter inserting the charging box with the battery
into the charging chamber, a voltage measurement process detects whether the battery is extremely deep-
discharged.
In this case, the battery is charged in re resh mode with a small amount o current until a voltage has been reached
which allows ast charging. In ast charging mode, the status LED o the corresponding charging chamber lashes
red. A de ective battery which cannot be charged any more is there ore detected, because it does not reach the
voltage required or ast charging. When a regularly discharged battery is inserted, ast charging starts immediately.
In ast charging mode, the status LED o the charging chamber lights red. A ter a quali ying period or
voltage stabilisation at the battery, the charging current is switched o or a short time and the voltage o the battery
is measured.
When the charging processor detects that the battery is ully charged, the ast charging current is switched o and
the battery is kept ull by means o trickle charging until it is removed, while the status LED lights green. The battery
can remain in the Charger or an inde inite period o time without danger o overloading.
A fully charged battery is detected as "charged" after appr x. 10 t 15 min. when charged again (i. e.
switching n the Charger) and change ver t trickle charging m de is made.
C mmissi ning:
P wer cable:
Plug in the 3-pole power cable into the mounting jack at the rear connector panel o the Charger. Inside the unit is a
switching power supply with an input voltage o 100V to 240VAC with 47Hz to 63Hz. Both units have a 3-pole power
supply line and there ore has to be connected to a 3-pole plug with earthing. V ltage adjustment f the units is
made aut matically depending n the mains v ltage. Inside the units are n exchangeable fuses. The ALC
89 is fused with a fine-wire fuse 1A in the mains input c nnect r. The fuse-h lder at the mains input
c nnect r c ntains a spare fuse.
Switching n the Charger:
The mains switch with a green LED is at the ront o the Charger on the le t. A ter switching to position "On", the red
status LEDs o the charging chambers lash or a short time and the green Power ON LED lights. I the batteries
have already been inserted the charging process starts immediately. When charging, the LEDs light red.

Operati n
:
Inserting the rechargeable batteries int the charging b xes and chambers:
9V bl ck batteries:
Remove an empty charging box by slightly pulling it upwards and at the same time drawing it out. Insert the battery
based on the drawing in the charging box. Inserting the batteries with the poles in incorrect direction is mechanically
prevented. Push battery into the charging chamber until the box positively latches.
Rem ving batteries fr m the Charger:
9V bl ck batteries:
Remove an occupied charging box where the status LED lights green (battery charged) by slightly pulling it upwards
and at the same time drawing it out.
Switching ff the Charger:
Put power switch in position "OFF" or switch o master switch o the rack.
CAUTION!
Never insert dry batteries r alkaline / manganese cells int the Charger, the Charger
c uld be damaged. In such a case FISCHER AMPS d n t undertake liability f r damage f the
appliance r c nsequential damage r l ss.
Keep your Charger in a dry place (indoor use only). Do not spill liquid into the enclosure through openings. Danger
o ire and electric shock!
Do not expose appliance to direct solar radiation (danger o overheating).
The ventilation openings on top o the appliance should not be covered or blocked.
When mounting the appliance into a rack, leave 5 mm ree space on top o it so that the air can circulate between
the appliances. Do not impede the low o air through ventilation openings.
Do not insert hot rechargeable batteries (>40°C). Allow the batteries to cool be ore charging them.
There are n parts inside the appliance which need maintenance service. D n t pen appliance.
Repair may nly be carried ut by the manufacturer.
When rackmount, leave 5mm ree space above the Charger so that the air can circulate to prevent buildup o heat.
WARRANTY:
The manu acturer grants a warranty o 24 months rom the date o purchase by the original owner or de ects in
materials or workmanship. The rechargeable batteries are excluded rom the warranty. When the appliance has
been subject to misuse or has been altered, the warranty expires. When returning the de ective unit, enclose the
receipt, pack the unit to avoid transit damage, and return the unit carriage prepaid. The manu acturer does not
accept carriage orward consignments.
