WARNING
In order to protect your own and others’ safety
and to avoid invalidation of the warranty of
this product, please read this section carefully
before operating this product.
•Read all documentation before operating your equipment.
•Retain all documentation for further reference.
•Mains voltage must correspond to rear unit label.
•Damages caused by connecting to improper AC voltage are
not covered by any warranty.
•Always operate the unit with the AC ground wire connected
to the electrical system ground. Precautions should be taken
toavoidequipmentfaulty,improperor inefficient grounding.
•After connection to power supply Standby LED is lit, showing
that some components inside are already powered.
•Make sure the signal is correctly connected to amplifier input
channel following current input mode.
•Please turn off the power switch when extracting the power
cord and signal cable, or adjusting the input mode switch.
•In order to split one signal to more than one amplifier, we
suggest to use a signal distributor.
•In typical use, please set the volume to -0dB position.
•If you need to supply power to more than one unit power
amplifiers, to eliminate the big surge current interference
to electricity net, and preventing the voltage fluctuate
abnormal when simultaneously switching on the amplifiers,
we recommend you use the sequence power procedure.
•Do not obstruct the air entrance and exit ports.
To reduce therisk of electricshock,do not remove
cover (or back). No user serviceable parts inside.
Refer servicing to qualified personnel.
CAUTION
This product does not contain user serviceable parts. In order
to prevent fire and/or electrical shock, never disassemble it.
For maintenance and servicing always refer to the official
FiveO by Montarbo®Distributor in your Country or to qualified
personnel specifically authorised by the Distributor.

INTRODUCTION
First of all, thank you for choosing a product FiveO by Montarbo®. MAS400 powered subwoofer has been designed for
those who want to set-up a portable and very user friendly audio sound system with excellent performances and outstanding
value despite its very compact size. We manufactured MAS400 to assure you satisfying and reliable operation over many years.
MAS400 is a powered subwoofer, which perfectly suits the needs of small bands, rehearsal rooms and any application where
lower frequencies reinforcement is needed.
Please, in order to enjoy each feature of your new subwoofer thus achieving the best sonic results, take a few moments to
carefully read these instructions.

FEATURES
The MAS400 is a compact lightweight plywood powered subwoofer designed to successfully being used for any lower
frequencies boost application. Its compact size and wide range of useful controls, make it the perfect choice even for mobile
DJing, as well as concerts, rehearsal room, disco-pub and so on...
In order to give you connection versatility, we included even XLR and RCA discrete Left and Right inputs. The electronic
controls available on upper surface include Xover frequency, Level, Phase and Low-cut, while the internal limiter prevents
any damage from misuse.

∙ Continuously adjustable Xover frequency from 80 Hz up to 180 Hz, 24dB/oct. slope.

∙ Vented 15 mm plywood enclosure, with anti-scratch texture paint.
∙ Powerful D class amplifier, providing up to 500 W of power.
∙ 305 mm (12”) custom woofer with 75 mm (3”) voice coil.
∙ Rugged recessed handles for easy and reliable transport.
INSTALLATION
Since your MAS400 contains a power amp, please leave enough space around the unit for cooling purposes. Don’t place your
powered subwoofer close to high-temperature devices such as radiators or exposed to direct sunlight. MAS400 is connected
to the mains via the supplied cable. First connect the mains cable to the unit, then connect the cable plug to the mains,
finally turn on your MAS400.
Please note that all units must be properly grounded. For your own safety, you should never remove any ground connector/
device from electrical devices or power cables, or make them inactive. Please ensure that only qualified people install and
operate the powered subwoofer.
The internal temperature is lowered inside the cabinet by fan continuously blowing on the power amplifier. Anyway, since
MAS400 power amplifier is very powerful and needs a good ventilation, don’t place the sub in dusty places or narrow corners.
The ventilation takes place by means of some slots placed at both ends of cabinet panel, so be careful not to block the
ventilation openings with any object.

OPERATIONS
During start-up operation, MAS400 LEVEL knob should be at minimum, at “-∞”. Use XLR balanced cables to connect your
balanced sound source outputs, and RCA unbalanced cables to connect your unbalanced source outputs.
Now you can raise the LEVEL knob to desired level. We suggest you to use a spectrum analyzer to monitor the behavior of
your MAS400 in your current environment and its interaction with other speakers. Checking frequency cancelling problems,
you can use the PHASE switch, then check again with your RTA. If you don’t have such unit, please use songs you know
very well to tune your system.
Please note that moving the LEVEL knob to “0” dB position, the limiter could be activated to prevent way any extreme
level which could damage your MAS400 speakers.
TIPS
We strongly suggest to avoid exposition to loud music for prolonged periods, you risk to seriously damage your hearing.
In order to avoid MAS400 overload, please carefully check the overall sound; hearing even a small saturation from your
sound source, please turn counter-clockwise the level knob of the source which is distorting.
Avoid to use extreme EQ settings, which could overload that channel as well your sound system. We suggest you to use
the EQ to emphasize sound nuances and details, even cutting EQ on other channels!
In order to prevent unpleasant and dangerous speakers switch-on thump, please turn the LEVEL knob to “0” after every
session, and check the LEVEL knob “0” position starting any new session.

CONNECTORS
RCA INPUTS
MAS400 features a stereo input section with two – left and right – unbalanced RCA connectors for connection from unbalanced sound
sources, like mixer, CD player and TAPE output signals. You could also use these inputs even to connect outputs of a stereo audio board
or a stereo keyboard.
XLR INPUTS
MAS400 features also a stereo input with two – left and right – balanced XLR connectors for connection from balanced sound sources,
like professional mixer, CD player, stereo audio board etc.
XLR OUTPUTS
MAS400 features a stereo output section with two – left and right – balanced XLR connectors for connection to further subs composing
your sound system. Please note that these outputs are independent from PHASE, X-OVER, LEVEL and LOW-CUT settings, thus allowing
you to make individual adjustments for every subwoofer.
CONTROL ELEMENTS
PHASE
Thisswitchallows youtoimmediately improveyour subwooferresponse, incase of phaseproblemsdueto environmentand subsplacement.
[!] Before engaging/disengaging this switch, please turn off your subwoofer(s).
X-OVER
This knob allows you to choose the best crossover frequency between your subwoofer and the other speakers. Make the initial adjustment
close to your speakers roll-off frequency.
[!] Before making any adjustment to this pot, please reduce the LEVEL knob setting.
LEVEL
This knob allows you to set the level of your subwoofer. Make the initial adjustment checking the maximum SPL stated for your
speakers, considering that your sub should have at least 3dB of SPL more. Then make adjustments using this pot, without turning off
your subwoofer(s).
LOW-CUT
This selector allows you to choose the best low-cut frequency for your subwoofer. In this way you could tune your subwoofer lower
frequencies behaviour, for example in case of bass boominess or redundancy due to environment acoustic.
[!] Before moving this selector, please reduce the LEVEL knob setting.
MAINS
POWER ON/OFF
Use the POWER switch to turn ON and OFF the unit. The top left corner ON LED is lit when the system is ON.
[!] Before turning ON or OFF the unit, please be sure that LEVEL knob is in “∞” position.
AC INPUT
This IEC standard receptacle contains also a fuse-holder. Use only the right type (and value) replacement fuse!
An IEC power cord is supplied in unit package.

Vi ringraziamo per aver scelto un prodotto della linea FiveO by Montarbo®. Questa linea è stata progettata per quanti
desiderano realizzare un impianto audio che sia semplice da usare pur garantendo buone prestazioni ed un ottimo rapporto
qualità/prezzo. Abbiamo realizzato tutti questi prodotti per assicurare un funzionamento soddisfacente e affidabile per molti
anni.
Il MAS400 è stato progettato per fornire ai vostri strumenti le migliori prestazioni nonostante le sue dimensioni compatte.
L’unità si adatta perfettamente alle esigenze di piccoli gruppi, sale prove e tutte le applicazioni in cui è necessario un rinforzo
delle frequenze basse.
Al fine di sfruttare al meglio le caratteristiche del vostro MAS400 per ottenere le migliori prestazioni sonore possibili, racco-

CARATTERISTICHE
Il MAS400 è un subwoofer amplificato compatto, progettato per essere usato con successo per il rinforzo delle frequenze
basse. Le sue dimensioni contenute, abbinate ad un’ampia gamma di controlli e funzioni, lo rendono la scelta ideale anche
nei live all’aperto e/o al chiuso, così come nei concerti, in sale prove, disco-pub ecc ...
Al fine di permettere la massima flessibilità di connessione IN/OUT, abbiamo incluso ingressi XLR ed RCA per i canali destro e
sinistro. I controlli elettronici disponibili nel pannello posteriore includono la regolazione della frequenza di crossover, livello,
fase e selettore LPF a tre posizioni, mentre l’elettronica interna di protezione evita danni da un uso improprio.

INSTALLAZIONE
Dato che il vostro MAS400 contiene un amplificatore di potenza, lasciate spazio sufficiente intorno all’unità per il
raffreddamento. Non collocate l’unità vicino a dispositivi ad alta temperatura come radiatori, amplificatori né esponetelo
alla luce diretta del sole.
Il MAS400 è collegato alla rete elettrica tramite il cavo fornito in dotazione. Collegate prima il cavo di alimentazione all’unità,
quindi collegate la spina del cavo alla presa di corrente, infine accendete il MAS400.
Notate che tutte le unità devono essere fornite di messa a terra. Per la vostra sicurezza non si dovrebbe mai rimuovere
qualsiasi connettore/dispositivo di messa a terra da dispositivi elettrici o cavi di alimentazione, né rendere inattive le messe
a terra. Assicuratevi che il subwoofer amplificato sia installato ed utilizzato solo da persone qualificate.
La temperatura interna viene abbassata all’interno del cabinet dalla ventola che raffredda continuamente l’amplificatore.
La ventilazione avviene per mezzo di alcune fessure poste alle due estremità del pannello posteriore, quindi fate attenzione
a non ostruirle le aperture di ventilazione con qualsiasi oggetto e non posizionare i sub in luoghi polverosi o angoli stretti.
OPERAZIONI
Durante l’accensione la manopola LEVEL del MAS400 deve essere al minimo, a “-∞”. Utilizzare cavi XLR bilanciati per
collegare i uscite bilanciate delle sorgenti audio e cavi RCA sbilanciati per collegare le uscite delle sorgenti sbilanciate.
Ora potete alzare la manopola LEVEL al livello desiderato.
Vi consigliamo di utilizzare un analizzatore di spettro per controllare il comportamento del MAS400 nell’ambiente desiderato
e la sua interazione con gli altri altoparlanti. Se doveste notare problemi di cancellazione di frequenza, è possibile utilizzare
l’interruttore di fase, quindi controllate di nuovo con il vostro RTA. Se non disponete di un analizzatore di spettro utilizzare
dei brani che conoscete molto bene per mettere a punto il sistema.
Notate che spostando la manopola LEVEL in posizione “0” dB, il limitatore potrebbe essere attivato per evitare qualsiasi
livello estremo che potrebbe danneggiare l’altoparlante del MAS400.
SUGGERIMENTI
Vi consigliamo di evitare l’esposizione ad alto volume per periodi prolungati, rischiate di danneggiare seriamente l’udito.
Al fine di evitare il sovraccarico del MAS400 controllate attentamente il suono complessivo, ascoltando anche le minime
saturazioni, girate in senso antiorario la manopola di livello della sorgente che distorce.
Astenetevi dall’utilizzo di impostazioni di EQ estreme, che possono sovraccaricare il canale e il sistema audio.
Onde evitare rumori spiacevoli e dannosi per il vostro udito assicuratevi che la manopola LEVEL sia nella posizione “0”
prima e dopo qualsiasi nuova sessione di ascolto.

INGRESSI RCA
MAS400 dispone di una sezione di ingresso stereo sbilanciato con due connettori RCA – destra e sinistra – per il collegamento dei segnali
in uscita di sorgenti sonore sbilanciate, come alcuni mixer, lettore CD e TAPE.
Potrete usare questi ingressi anche per collegare le uscite di una scheda audio stereo o una tastiera stereo.
INGRESSI XLR
MAS400 è dotato anche di un ingresso stereo con due connettori bilanciati XLR – destra e sinistra – per il collegamento di sorgenti audio
bilanciate, come mixer professionali, lettori CD, schede audio stereo, ecc.
USCITE XLR
MAS400 dispone di una sezione di uscita stereo con due XLR bilanciati – destra e sinistra – per il collegamento ad ulteriori sub che
compongono l’impianto audio. Notate che queste uscite sono indipendenti dalle impostazioni di PHASE, X-OVER, LEVEL e low-cut,
permettendo così di effettuare regolazioni individuali per ogni subwoofer.
CONTROLLI
PHASE
In caso di problemi di fase causati dall’ambiente o dal posizionamento del sistema, questo interruttore vi consente di migliorare
immediatamente la risposta del subwoofer.
[!] Prima di inserire/disinserire l’interruttore, spegnete il subwoofer.
X-OVER
Questa manopola consente di scegliere la frequenza migliore di incrocio tra il subwoofer e gli altri diffusori. Eseguite la regolazione
iniziale ad una frequenza vicina a quella di roll-off dei satelliti.
[!] Prima di operare, abbassate la manopola LEVEL.
LEVEL
Questa manopola consente di impostare il livello del subwoofer. Eseguite la regolazione iniziale controllando la massima pressione sonora
erogata dai diffusori, considerando che il sub dovrebbe erogare almeno 3 dB di SPL in più. Quindi effettuate le regolazioni mediante
questo potenziometro, senza spegnere il subwoofer.
LOW-CUT
Questo selettore vi consente di scegliere la migliore frequenza inferiore di taglio per il subwoofer. In questo modo è possibile ottimizzare il
comportamento del subwoofer sulle frequenze più basse, ad esempio in caso di bassi rimbombanti o ridondanti per l’acustica ambientale.
[!] Prima di operare, abbassate la manopola LEVEL.
ALIMENTAZIONE
POWER ON/OFF
Usate l’interruttore di alimentazione per accendere (ON) e spegnere (OFF) l’unità. Il LED ON in alto a sinistra si accende quando il sub
è acceso.
[!] Prima di accendere o spegnere l’unità, assicurarsi che la manopola LEVEL sia in posizione “∞”.
AC INPUT
Questa presa IEC standard contiene anche un porta-fusibile. Utilizzate solo fusibili di ricambio del tipo e valore corretto indicato in tabella
tecnica (pag. 20 di questo manuale). Un cavo di alimentazione IEC è fornito nella confezione del sub.
