Introduction
Congratulations on the purchase of your Formula Air E-PURE ASPRA air purifier. The
E-PURE ASPRA® is an advanced air purification appliance, based on a unique and
patented technology. The E-PURE ASPRA technology has been tested in several
institutes, such as VITO, ECN and TNO. These tests confirm that all atmospheric particles
(range <0.1 μm - 10 μm / PM10, PM2.5, PM1, PM0.1) are eectively removed from
the air by the E-PURE ASPRA. E-PURE ASPRA air purification is eective for coarse
particles such as spores, pollen and animal substances, but also for finer particulate
matter such as organic materials like viruses, bacteria, prions, and inorganic particles
like soot, originating from traic. The very harmful ultrafine particulate matter and
nanoparticles can cause cardiovascular disease, cancer and premature death. The
E-PURE ASPRA removes even these ultra-fine and nano particles eiciently and
permanently from the air.
Because in addition to fine particles, coarse particles are present inside industrial
buildings, the P10000-4C is also equipped with a coarse filter. This removes coarse
particles, such as sawdust and powders, from the air. The coarse filter is cleaned
periodically and automatically to prevent clogging of the filter. By using optional
Formula Air ® Active Carbon Filters in your E-PURE ASPRA air purifier, your air purifier
will also remove harmful and toxic gases originating from industry, traic, (wood)
smoke and agriculture.
The E-PURE ASPRA P10000-4C has been developed in such a way that the air can
flow easily through the device, while a maximum amount of dust is eectively collected.
This is combined with a low pressure drop and low energy costs.

3.2 Intended Use
Improving Indoor Air Quality
All E-PURE ASPRA air cleaners are designed to continually improve the indoor air
quality by removing harmful particles such as dust, pollen, and microbes. The E-PURE
ASPRA P10000-4C has been specifically developed to remove coarse particles that
are released during business and production processes, in addition to small ultra-fine
particles,
Next to air purification, air ventilation is a vital component to a healthy air environment.
Therefore, suicient air from outside should always be entering to reduce levels of
carbon dioxide caused by breathing and combustion processes.
For optimal results, ensure the E-PURE ASPRA system is suited for your room size. The
actual hourly air volume cleaned by the system is recommended to be at least double
the air volume of your room. If the rate at which pollutants enter the room is high or the
indoor air quality requirements are stringent, the hourly air delivery of the system needs
to exceed the room air volume several times. To achieve that level of air renewal, it
may be necessary to employ more than one unit.
Air Cleaning Results
Formula Air and distributors make no claim as to the specific air cleaning results
that are achieved under the user’s individual operating conditions. The air quality
improvements that can be realized with the E-PURE ASPRA in indoor environments
depends to a significant degree on circumstantial factors, which are out of the
control of Formula Air or distributors. Important factors which will influence the total
eectiveness and performance of the air cleaner include:
• Type of air pollutants present
• Intensity of the pollutant source(s)
• Pollutant concentration
• Size of the indoor environment (room size)
• Operating speed of the unit
• Location and positioning of the air cleaner.
• Number of air cleaners placed in the indoor environment
• Ventilation rate

3.3 Operation
Airflow
The E-PURE ASPRA P10000 draws the air in through a fan at the top of the device
and then distributes the cleaned air back into the room via the collector plates (see
figure 3.1). The air distribution depends on the set fan speed and the thickness of the
collector plates used.
Filter
While the air passes through the E-PURE ASPRA P10000, the particles in the air are
charged in the electrostatic section (figure 3.2). This makes it very easy for the particles
to attach to earthed and static surfaces. The particles are then eectively removed
from the air by the coarse filter and the EF collectors.
Cleaning takes place in two steps: In the first stage, the air is filtered by the coarse
filter. Here, the coarse (read larger) particles are captured. The coarse filter can
consist of perforated plates, fine mesh or combinations thereof.
Smaller particles will flow through the holes of the coarse filter. In the second stage,
these smaller particles are captured by the collectors. Optionally, the lifespan of the
collectors can be extended by using the optional finely meshed pre-filters between the
coarse filter and the collectors. These pre-filters can be cleaned periodically.

Figure 3.3: Automated coarse filter cleaning
Brush
Dust collection
Automatic cleaning of the coarse filter (P10000-4C only)
Over time, the number of particles on the coarse filter will increase until the coarse
filter is saturated with a cake-like layer. The coarse filter is therefore periodically
automatically cleaned. A brush moves up and down several times, causing the “cake”
to fall into the dust collection box. Figure 3.3 shows the automatic cleaning of the
coarse filter.
The self-cleaning frequency is set in the factory (usually an interval of 24 or 48 hours).
More coarse dust will result in faster cake formation. This cake formation is a desirable
process, as it significantly increased the eiciency of the coarse dust filter. However, of
the cake thickness increases too much the airflow will decrease, furthermore, the cake
might become very hard to remove if left too long. The cleaning frequency is therefore
strongly dependent on the conditions in which the P10000-4C operates. Clean too
frequently, and the coarse dust will end up in the collectors, decreasing filter lifespan
and reducing the amount of dust in the dust collection box. With a too large cleaning
interval however the airflow through the P10000-4C will be reduced too much. This is
the reason that the cleaning interval often needs fine-tuning at the customers’ site in
the weeks and months after installation.
To prevent re-entrainment of dust from the collection box when the fan restarts after
a cleaning interval, the box is closed o using a valve register, multiple long blades
which rotate around their longitudinal axis (comparable to a multi bladed volume
control damper). During the downward stroke of the brush these blades open. Thus,
any dust which, due to the brush, falls on both the inside and outside of the coarse dust
filter, drops into the dust collection box. During the brush down stroke the valve register
is open, under all other conditions, i.e. during the upstroke and when the fan is running
the valve register is closed.

Cleaning and replacing the collectors
The collectors will at a certain point become saturated with dust. Since the coarse
filter captures most of the larger particles, these collectors will become saturated with
fine dust mostly. As the collectors saturate, the pressure drop over the collectors will
increase due to the dust build-up blocking the airflow. This reduces the amount of air
flowing through the P10000, reducing the cleaning capacity of the P10000. Once the
collectors are saturated, they will need to be replaced.
Therefore, the system will generate a warning to check the filters after a pre-set
number of running hours. This pre-set number of hours is factory set but will over time
be adjusted to match the conditions present at the client, since the lifespan of the
collectors is strongly dependant on the local situation at the client. The lifespan is
determined by the type of dust, the particle size and the total dust concentration.
Airflow monitoring (optional)
Instead of estimating the remaining filter lifetime based on the number of operating
hours, the optional flow sensor can be used. This measures the velocity of the air
flowing past the sensor. As stated before, as the collectors become saturated with
dust, the amount of air flowing through the P10000-4C will be reduced, reducing the
airspeed. The flow sensor can measure the airspeed.
After a filter change the system performs a 1st reference measurement of the air
velocity. This measured velocity is stored as the reference velocity. Periodically the
velocity is measured again and compared to the reference velocity. If the new velocity
is less than a pre-programmed percentage (usually 75%) of the reference velocity, the
system will issue a warning. Using the flow sensor, the system thus monitors its’ own
performance.
