2.3 Qualification of Personnel
Definitions
■Instructed ersonnel: Personnel instructed in the tasks assigned to them.
■Trained ersonnel: Personnel trained in the operation and safe use of the
product.
■Qualified ersonnel: Personnel who, based on their specialist training, knowledge
and experience and knowledge of the relevant regulations, are able to assess the
work assigned to them and identify possible hazards.

2.4 Intended Use
The measurement device Blackbird OECD is designed exclusively for the measurement
of fiber optical sensors in industrial environments.
Any other use or use going beyond this is considered improper use.
2.5 Residual Risks
2.5.1 Explosion Protection
The product is not suitable for use in potentially explosive environments.
2.5.2 Working Environ ent Wind Turbine
The use of the product in wind turbines requires special risk prevention measures.

3.1 Functional Description
The Blackbird OECD is a fiber optical measurement device for measuring the
wavelength of fiber Bragg grating sensors (for example temperature, strain or
acceleration).
3.1.1 Overview

The Blackbird OECD consists of the following com onents:
■Mounting plate: Used to attach the Blackbird OECD with 4 M6 bolts or welding
studs.
■E-2000/APC connectors: 9 sockets for the connection of fiber optical sensors
with E-2000/APC connector.

3.1.2 Operation
Up to 9 fiber Bragg grating sensors are connected via fiber optical cables to the
E-2000/APC connectors of the Blackbird OECD.
The Blackbird OECD evaluates the signals of the sensors and rovides the
wavelengths of the individual sensors via the following interfaces:
