Electrical Information
These guidelines must be followed to ensure that safety mechanisms in the
design of this freezer will operate properly.
•Refer to the serial plate for correct electrical rating. The power cord of the
appliance is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for protection against
shock hazards. It must be plugged directly into its own properly grounded three-
prong receptacle, protected with a 15 amp time delay fuse or circuit breaker. The
receptacle must be installed in accordance with the local codes and ordinances.
Consult a qualified electrician, Receptacles protected by Ground Fault Circuit
Interrupters (GFCI)are NOTRECOMMENDED, DO NOT use an extension cord
or adapter plug.
• Ifvoltage varies by 10 percent or more, freezer performance may be affected.

Before starting the freezer, follow these important first steps:
Installation
• Choose a place that is near a grounded electrical outlet.
• The freezer should be located where surrounding temperatures will not exceed
1t 0°F (43°C). Temperatures of 32°F (0°C) and below will NOT affect freezer
operation. Additional compressor heaters are not recommended.
•AtlowspacearoundtheunitYorgoodaircircutation. Leavea 3 inch (75 mm)space
on all sides of the freezer for adequate circulation.
Leveling
Thefreezer must haveall bottom corners resting firmly on asolid floor. Thefloor must
be strong enough to support afully loaded freezer. NOTE: It isVERYIMPORTANTfor
your freezer to be level in order to function properly, if the freezer isnot leveleddu ring
installatioin, the door may be misafigned and not close or seal properly, causing
cooling, frost, or moisture problems.
To Level Upright Unit:
After discarding crating screws and wood base, usea carpenter's level to levelthe
freezer from fronbto-back. Adjust the plastic leveling feet in front, _f2bubble higher,
so that the door closes easily when left halfway open.
To Level Chest Unit:
If needed, add metal or wood shims between feet pads and floor,
Cleaning
• Wash any removable parts, the freezer interior, and exterior with mild detergent
and warm water. Wipe dry. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS ON THESE
SURFACES.
Donot userazor bladesor other sharp instruments, which canscratch the appliance
surface when removing adhesive labels. Any glue left from the tape can be
removed with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent, or touch the residue
with the sticky side of tape already removed. DO NOT REMOVE THE SERIAL
PLATE.
Upright Freezer Door Removal
If door must be removed:
1. Lift up plastic hinge cover and fold back.
2. Usea Phillips,) screwdriver to loosen and retighten the screws on the top hinge to
ensure that a secure assembly and prevent hinge slippage.
3. Removethe top hinge from cabinet and lift door off the lower hinge pin.
4. After door isremoved, remove the two screws from the bottom hinge.
5. To replace door, reverse above order.

Setting the
Temperature Control
Cool Down Period
• Forsafe food storage, allow 4 hours for freezer to cool down completely, The
freezer will run continuously for the first several hours. Foods that are already
frozen may be placed in freezer after the first few hours of operation. Unfrozen
foods should NOTbe loaded into freezer until freezer has operated for 4 hours,
• When loading freezer, freeze only 3 pounds of fresh food per cubic foot of freezer
spaceat onetime. Distribute packagesto befrozen evenlythroughoutthe freezer.
It isnot necessary to turn control knob to a colder setting while freezing food
Temperature Control
The temperature control islocated inside the freezer on upright models, and on
the left outside wall on chest models, Thetemperature isfactory preset to provide
satisfactory food storage temperatures. However, the temperature control is
adjustable to provide a range of temperatures for your personal satisfaction, if a
colder temperature isdesired, turn the temperature control knob toward COLD-
ESTand allow several hours for temperatures to stabilize between adjustments.

Become familiar with these features, and their use and care.
Power On Light
The Power On Light indicates that the freezer is properly connected to electrical
power, The fight glows even when the temperature control isturnedtoOFF, Ifthe
light goes out, refer to "Freezer does not run" in the Avoid Service Checklist.
Temp Alarm (audible only or audible with warning light)
This feature is designed to provide a warning of possible malfunction, tf the
temperature of the food risesto a level unsafe for long-term storage, the buzzer will
sound, Thered light will alsoglow on models so equipped, TheTemp Alarm feature
operates on household electricity. If power fails, the alarm will not perform, An ON/
OFFswitch allows you to deactivate the Temp Alarm when not wanted. Thefreezer
isshipped with Temp Alarm inthe OFFposition, After freezer hasrun approximately
4 hours, the red light, if equipped, will go off. Thenyou may activate the Temp Alarm
without the alarm sounding,
Pressthe ONswitch to activate the Temp Alarm, Todeactivate, pressthe OFFswitch.
Ifthe alarm sounds, besurefreezer isproperly leveled, and the door closesfreely, and
seals properly. If you suspect a technical malfunction, call an authorized servicer
immediately,
Power Cord Clamp
The clamp prevents the power cord from being acddently unplugged, Remember
when removing or replacing the electrical cord, to remove or replace the power cord
clamp,
Power Freeze
Power Freeze allows you to lower your freezer temperature to the lowest possible
temperature by pushing the switch to ON. For maximum benefit, Power Freeze
should be selected 24 hours before placing a large quantity of unfrozen food into
freezer. Foodshould then be spread throughout freezer compartment to speed up
the freezing process, To turn off Power Freeze, manually push the switch to OFF.
(Thiswill return compressor to the normal operating mode.)

Power Defrost Plunger - Chest Freezers
Power Defrost
The Power Defrost feature will defrost freezer in a fraction of the time usually
required, To defrost, remove all food, and follow these steps,
1. Pull out Power Defrost Plunger, Leavedoor open while defrosting, (Closing
freezer door will push in plunger and power defrost will be turned off,)
2. PushPower Defrost Plunger in to restart freezer after defrosting iscompleted.
NOTE: When defrosting units with the Temp Alarm Feature, turn off the
alarm when defrosting. When the freezer reaches the freezing temperature,
turn the Temp Alarm back on.
Slide-Out Basket (upright models)
The Slide-Out Basket, located atthe bottom of the freezer provides separate storage
space for items that are difficult to store on freezer shelves, To remove the basket,
pull out, and lift up.
Juice Can Rack (upright models)
The Juice Can Rack on the freezer door isspecially ridged to store juice cans and
prevent them from roiling out of the shelf,
Security Lock with Pop-Out Key
Thissecurity lock fastensthe door snugly, ensuring that stored food issecure, Tolock
or unlock the freezer, push the key into the lock and turn. The key pops out of the
lock after it has been turned.
Interior Light
The light comes on automatically when the door isopened. To replacethe light bulb,
turn the temperature control to OFFand unplug the electrical cord. Replacethe old
bulb with a bulb of the same wattage.
Adjustable Shelf (upright models)
This shelf can be moved to one of two positions, Lift the shelf up and out to move
to the desired position.
Defrost Drain
The defrost drain provides a method of draining the water during defrosting and
cleaning. See r'Defrosting r' in Care and Cleaning Section.
Slide-Aside Basket
Slide-Aside Basket (chest models)
This basket helpsorganize odd-shapod items. Toreach other packages inthe freezer,
slide the basket aside or lift out.
Divider/Drain Pan (chest models)
The Divider/Drain Pan doubles asa convenient storage area and servesasa shallow
drain pan when defrosting, To remove, lift pan straight up out of the supports, and
out of the chest.
Fast Freezing Shelves (upright models)
These shelves contain cooling coils to freeze foods quickly and allow cold air to
constantly circulate throughout the freezer, Do not usesharp metal objects such as
icepicks or scrapersto clean the shelves, Thiscould damage the shelvesand reduce
their cooling ability. These shelves are not adjustable.
Tilt-Out Shelf
Thisshelf islocated inside onthe freezer door and provides additional storage space.
To accessan item, tilt top of "basket" shelf down.
Drop Front Shelf (upright models)
The Drop Front Shelf, located at the bottom of the freezer, provides a separate
compartment forsmall irregular shaped items or large, bulky items, Liftthe shelf front
up and outto remove,

Between Defrostings
To avoid frequent defrosting, occasionally use a plastic scraper to remove frost.
Scrape with a pulling motion, Never use a metal instrument to remove frost.
Defrosting
Itisimportantto defrost and cleanfreezer whet] V4to Y2inchof frost hasaccumulated.
Frostmay tend to accumulate faster on upper part of the freezer due to warm, moist
airenteringthefreezerwhenthedoorisopened. Removefood and leavethedoor
open when defrosting the freezer,
• On upright modelswith a defrost drain (Figure1),remove drain plug on the inside
floor of the freezer bypulling straight out. Toaccessexternal drain tube on models
with a base panel, first remove the two screws from the base panel. Locate the
drain tube near the teft center under the freezer, Placea shallow pan under the
drain tube. Defrost water wilt drain out, Check pan occasionally sowater doesnot
overflow. A Y2inch garden hose adapter can be usedto drain the freezer directly
into a floor drain. If your model is not equipped with an adapter, one can be
purchased at most hardware stores. Replacethe drain plug when defrosting and
cleaning are completed. If the drain is left open, warm air may enter freezer.
•On chest models with a defrost drain, place a shallow pan or the Divider/Drain
Pan (some models) beneath the drain outlet (Figure 2), A Y2inch garden hose
adapter can be usedto drain the freezer directly into afloor drain (Figure3). Ifyour
model isnot equipped with an adapter, one can be purchased at most hardware
stores, Pulloutthe drain plug insidethe freezer, and pull off the outside defrost drain
plug (Figure4). Defrost water wilt drain out. Check pan occasionally so water does
not overflow. Replacethe drain plugs when defrosting iscompleted,
•On modelswithout adefrost drain,placetowelsornewspapersontheffeezer bottom
to catchthe frost. Thefrost will loosenand fall. Removetowels and/ornewspapers.
• Ifthe frost issoft, remove it by using a plasticscraper. Ifthe frost isglazed and hard,
fill deep panswith hotwater and placethem onthe freezer bottom. Closethe freezer
door. Frostshould soften in about 15 minutes. Repeatthis procedure if necessary.
Cleaning the Inside
After defrosting, wash insidesurfacesof the freezer with asolution of two tablespoons
of baking soda in one quart (t ,136 litres) warm water. Rinseand dry. Wring excess
water out of the sponge or cloth when cleaning in the area of the controls, or any
electrical parts.
Wash the removable parts and door basket with the baking soda solution mentioned
above, or mild detergent and warm water. Rinseand dry, Never usemetallic scouring
pads, brushes, abrasive cleaners, or alkaline solutions on any surface. Do not wash
removable parts in a dishwasher,
Cleaning the Outside
Wash the cabinet with warm water and mild liquid detergent. Rinsewell and wipe
dry with a clean soft cloth. Replace parts and food.
Vacation and Moving Tips
Short Vacations: Leavethe freezeroperating during vacationsof lessthat] three weeks,
Long Vacations: If the freezer will not be usedfor several months, remove all food
and unplug the power cord. Clean and dry the interior thoroughly. To prevent odor
and mold growth, leavethe freezer door open slightly, blocking it open if necessary,
Moving: Disconnectthepowercord ptugfromthewalloutlet, Removefoods, then
defrost, and clean the freezer, Secure all loose items such asbase panel, baskets,
and shelves by taping them securely in place to prevent damage. In the moving
vehicle, secure freezer in an upright position, and secureto prevent movement. Also
protect outside of freezer with a blanket, or similar item.

Power Failure/
Freezer Failure
Do not open freezer door
unnecessarily if freezer is
off for several hours.
If a power failure occurs, frozen foods will stayfrozen for at least 24 hours if the
freezer iskept closed. If the power failure continues, pack seven or eight pounds of
dry ice into the freezer every 24 hours, Look in the Yellow Pagesunder "Dry lce,"
"Dairies," or r'lce Cream Manufacturers" for local dry ice suppliers. Always wear
gloves and usecaution when handling dry ice.
If the freezer has stopped operating, see "Freezer does not run r, in the Avoid
Service Checklist Section of this manual, If you cannot solve the problem, call an
authorized servicer immediately.
If the freezer remains off for several hours, follow the directions above for the useof
dry iceduring a power failure. If necessary,take the food to a local locker plant until

defective workmanship or materials in this appliance.

Installation
• Choisissezun endroit pres d'une prise mise a la terre,

pas 43°C (110°F), Des temperatures de 0°C (32°F) et en dessousNE genent PAS

Mise Eniveau
Les quatre coins inferieurs de congelateur doivent reposer fermement sur un plancher

Reglages de la porte d'un congelateur vertical
Pour enlever la porte:
1, Soulevez le couvre charniere en plastique et rabattez le,

completement pendant 4 heures. Lecongetateur fonctionnera continuellement

darts le congelateur apres lespremieres heures defonctionnement. Lesaliments
non congetes NEdevraient PASetre ranges dans le congelateur tant qu'il n'a pas
fonctionne pendant 4 heures,
Lorsquevous remplissez lecongelateur, ne congetez que 3Ibd'atiments par pied
cube d'espace de congelateur en une seulefois, Repartissezlespaquets danstout
le congelateur, II n'est pasnecessaire de tourner le bouton de commande 8 un
reglage plus froid Iors de la congetation des aliments,
Commande de temperature
La commande de temperature est situee a t'interieur du congelateur (modetes
verticaux) ou sur la paroi exterieure gauche (modetes horizontaux), L'appareil a
ete preregle en usine afin d'assurer une temperature adequate de rangement de
la nourriture. Vous pouvez toutefois regler la commande de temperature seton
vos besoins. Sivous desirez une temperature plus froide, tournez te bouton de
commande vers COLDEST(LEPLUSFROID)puis attendez quelques heures, afin
que la temperature se stabilise,

Temoin de fonctionnement
Ce temoin indique que le congetateur est correctement branche au courant
etectrique. Letemoin reste allume meme torsque la commande de temperature est
a l'arret. Si letemoin s eteint, reportez=vous _Le cong(alateur ne fonctionne pas
dans la Liste de contrOle anti-panne.
Alarme (sonore uniquement ou sonore avec un voyant lumineux)
L'atarme sedeclenche en cas de mauvais fonctionnement de votre congelateur, En
effet, si la temperature interieure du congelateur augmente et atteint un niveau
critique pour une Iongue conservation des aliments, I'alarme sonore se met en
marche, En outre, sur les modetes qui en sont equipes, un voyant lumineux rouge
s'allume. L'alarme fonctionne grace _ Finstallation electrique domestique ;ainsi, en
cas de coupure de courant, celle=ci ne sedeclenchera pas. Un interrupteur Marche/
Arret ( 'ON/OFF")permet d'activer ou de neutraliser I'atarme. Lecongelateur est livre
avec I'alarme neutralisee (position "OFF"), Sur les modetes qui en sont equipes, le
voyant lumineux rouge disparait apres que le congetateur ait fonctionne environ 4
heures, Vous pouvez aiors mettre I'aiarme en position de marche ("ON ") sans que
celle-ci se declenche.
Appuyez sur le bouton MARCHE (ON)pour activer I'alarme de temperature (Temp.
Alarm). Pour desactiver, appuyez sur I'interrupteur ARRET(OFF).
Si l'atarme sedeclenche, assurez=vousque le congetateur est de niveau, et que la
porte est correctement fermee, Si vouz suspectez un mauvais fonctionnement de
Fappareil, appelez immediatement un reparateur qualifie.
Attache pour cordon electrique
Cette attache pour cordon electrique d'etre accidentellement debranche. N'oubliez
pas, en enlevant ou remettant le cordon eiectrique, d'enlever ou de remettre en
place I'attache pour cordon electdque.

bassepossible. IIvous suffit de positionner cette commande en mode "MARCHE"
("ON"), Pour une efficacite maximate, il est preferable de mettre en marche la
congelation puissante 24 heuresavant de placer une grande quantite d'atiments non
congeles dans te congelateur, Afin d'accelerer le processus de congelation, il est
recommande de disperser lesaliments dans le compartiment de congelation. Pour
stopper lacongetation puissante, ilsuffit de positionner la commande decongetation

Le degivrage rapide sert a degivrer le congeIateur pendant ta fraction de temps
normalement necessaire,Pour degivrer, videz le cong(_lateur compl_atement, et
pousuivezcesinstructions:
1. Tirezsur le bouton de lacommande de degivrage rapide. Laissezla porte ouverte
Jorsdu degivrage. (Lafermeture de taporte du congelateur enfonce tepoussoir
et stoppe tedegivrage rapide,)
2. Appuyez sur le bouton de la commande de degivrage rapide pour remettre en
marche le congetateur apres le degivrage,
REMARQUE: L'alarme de tempOrature dolt Otre arrOt(_e Iorsque le
cong(_lateur est en p(_riode de d(_givrage. Mettez en marche I'alarme de
temperature une fois que le cong(alateur a atteint les temp(aratures de

Panier coulissant (modbles verticaux)
Le panier coutissant, au bas du congeiateur, permet de ranger separement les
articles difficiles a poser sur lesclayettes. Pour I'enlever, tirez-le et souJevez-le,

L'etagere a boites dejus dans la porte du congelateur est congue tout specialement
pour le rangement des canettes dejus congele, les empechant de rouler hors de
I'etagere.
Serrure de securite bressort
La serrure ferme la porte du congetateur bien, pour assurer la securite de ta
nourriture. Pour verrouiller ou deverrouiller le congetateur, enfoncez la cle dans ta

Entre les degivrages
Pour eviter le degivrage frequent, enlevez de temps _ autre le givre a I'aide d'un
grattoir en ptastique, Grattez en remontant, Ne vous servezjamais d'instrument
metatlique.
Degivrage
IIestimportant dedegivrer etde nettoyer tecongelateur despresenced'1/4 a 1/2 pouce
de givre, Le givre s'accumule plus rapidement sur la parde superieure du congelateur
par suite de I'entree d'air humide et tiede Iorsque la porte ou le couvercle est ouvert.
Enlevezla nourriture et laissezla porte ou le couvercle ouvert lots du degivrage.
• Surlesmodblesverticauxavecsystemedevidangedel'eaudedegivrage(Figure
1), enlever lebouchon devidange au fond du congelateur en letirant directement.
Pour acceder au tuyau de vidange exterieur sur lesmodeles munis d'un panneau
inferieur, vous devez au prealable retirer ce panneau inferieur fixe au congetateur
par deux vis. Le tuyau de vidange est situe pres du centre gauche sous le
congelateur. Ptacez un recipient creux sous le tuyau de vidange. L'eau du
degivrage vas'y ecouler, Verifiez de temps _ autre que I'eau ne deborde pas, Un
demi-pouce adaptateur de tuyau de jardin peut etre utilise pour vidanger le
congelateur directement dans un egout, Sivotre modele n'est pasequipe avec un
adaptateur, celui peut etre achete 8 la plupart desmagasins de materiel. Remettez
le bouchon en place Iorsque le degivrage et le nettoyage sont termines, Si le
bouchon devidange est resteouvert, de Fairchaud peut entrer dans lecongelateur,
•Sur les modbles horizontaux avec vidange de l'eau de degivrage, placez un
recipient creux ou le diviseur/plateau de degivrage (fourni avec certains modeles)
sous t'orifice de vidange (Figure 2), Un adaptateur de tuyau dejardin d'un demi-
pouce peut servir a vidanger lecongelateur directement dans un drain de plancher
(Figure 3). Sortez ta bonde _ I'interieur du congelateur et enlevez te bouchon de
vidange exterieur (Figure 4). L'eau de degivrage va s'ecouler, Verifiez de temps 8
autre que I'eau ne deborde pas. Remettez en place le bouchon de vidange et la
bonde une lois le degivrage termine.
•Sur les modbles sans vidange de I'eau de degivrage, placez desservieEesou
journaux au fond du congelateur pour retenir le givre. Le givre vase detacher et
tomber. Enlevez {esserviettes et/ou lesjournaux.
• Sile givre est mou, enlevez-le a I'aide d'un grattoir plastique. S'il est dur et brillant,
rempflssez de profonds recipients avec de Feau chaude et placez-les au fond du
congelateur. Fermez le congelateur, Le givre devrait se ramollir en 15 minutes
environ, Au besoin, repetez cette derniere operation,
Nettoyage de I'interieur
Apres le degivrage, nettoyez lessurfaces internes du congelateur avec une solution
composee de deux cuilleres _ soupe de bicarbonate de soude darts 1 litre (I pinte)
d'eau tiede, Rincez et sechez, Essorez bien votre chiffon ou votre eponge pour
nettoyer autour des commandes ou des pieces electriques,
Lavez les pieces amovibles avec une solution de bicarbonate de soude comme ci-
dessus,ou de Feautiede additionnee de detergent doux, Rincezet sechez, N'utilisez
jamais detampon arecurer metallique, brosse,produit nettoyant abrasif ou solution
atcaline sur une surface, quelle qu'elle soit, Ne lavez pas lesparties amovibles dans
un lave-vaisselle,
