Electrical Information
These guidelines must be followed to ensure that safety mechanisms in the
design of this refrigerator will operate properly.
•Refrigerator must be plugged into its own 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only
electrical outlet. The power cord of the appliance is equipped with a three-
prong grounding plug, for your protection against shock hazards. It must be
pluggeddirectlyinto aproperly grounded three-prongreceptacle.The recep-
taclemust beinstalled inaccordance withlocal codesand ordinances.Consult
a qualified electrician. DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD OR AN ADAPTER
PLUG.
• Ifvoltagevaries by10percent or more,performanceof your refrigeratormay
be affected. Operating the refrigerator with insufficient power can damage

refrigeratoronlyasinstructedinthisOwner’sGuide. Beforestartingrefrigerator,
follow these important first steps:
Location
Installrefrigerator:

Installation
• Donotinstallrefrigeratorwheretemperaturewilldropbelow60°F(15°C),orrise
above110°F(43°C). Compressor willnotbe abletomaintain propertemperatures.
• Inarecessed installation, allowanextra 1/2 inch(10-15mm) on eachsidefor
easeofinstallation.
• Ifthe hingesideoftheunit willbe placedagainstawall,allow a1-3/4 inch(44
mm) space between wall and refrigerator to permit proper door swing.
Door Opening
For best use of drawers and freezer basket, refrigerator should be in a position
where both the refrigerator and freezer doors can be opened about 135°.
Leveling
• Refrigeratormustbeleveledwithallbottomcornersrestingfirmlyonasolidfloor.
Adjustfrontrollerstolevelcabinetboth front-to-rearandside-to-side.Keep
cabinetaslowaspossibleforstability. Neveradjustcabinetrollerssofrontislower
thanrear.
•Toadjust frontrollers: Openrefrigerator andfreezer doors.Remove toegrill
bypullingitstraightout.Adjustrollersbyturningeachrolleradjustingboltwith
anadjustablewrench,asocketwrench,oranutdriveruntil refrigeratorislevel
andstable.Rearrollersarenotadjustable.
• Checkbothdoors to be suresealstouch cabinet evenly onallfour sides.
• Iffreezerdoorishigherthanrefrigeratordoor,raiserightcornerand/orlowerleft
corneruntildoorsalignacrosstopofcabinet.
• Ifrefrigeratordoorishigherthanfreezerdoor,raiseleftcornerand/orlowerright
corneruntildoorsalignacrosstopofcabinet.
•Toreplace toegrill: Lineuptabswithholes,and pushgrill straighton.
Cleaning
• Wash the inside, all removable parts, and the outside with mild detergent and
warm water. Wipe dry. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS ON THESE SURFACES.
• Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments that can scratch appliance
surface, when removing adhesive labels. Any glue left from the tape or energy
label can be removed with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent, or touch
gluewith sticky sideof tape alreadyremoved.
• DO NOT REMOVE SERIAL PLATE.

Do Not Install Ice Maker Tubing Where Temperature May Fall
Below Freezing.
Check to be sure your water connection will comply with local plumbing codes.
Waterqualitydeterminesyouricequality.Itisbesttoconnecttheicemakertowater
thatisnot softened.Chemicalsfrom a malfunctioningsoftenercan damagetheice
maker. If the ice maker is connected to soft water, ensure that the softener is
maintainedandworking properly.
Theice maker requiresa 1/4inch(6.4 mm)copperwater supplyline(with shutoff)
fromyour householdwatersystem.Allowenoughtubingbehindyourrefrigeratorto
permitmoving outto cleanfloor.
Waterlinekit 5308950117isavailablethroughyourDealeratextracharge.Thiskit
includes25ft(7.6meters)of1/4inch diametercoppertubing pluspartstoconnect
toyourcoldwaterlineincludingasaddle valveassembly.You willneedtopurchase
a1/4inch brass compressionnutand ferrule from yourlocalhardware or plumbing
store.
1. Turn ON water supply and flush out copper tubing. Turn OFF water supply
(Figure1).
2.Unplugrefrigerator(Figure1).
3.InstallWATER SUPPLY LINEasfollows (Figure 2):
Slidebrassnut,thenferrule,ontocoppertubing
Pushendofcoppertubingasfarintothemetalwatervalvefittingasitwill
go(1/4inch).Slideferruleintofittingandthreadbrassnutontoinlet,
tighten fingertightplusone-halfturnwith wrench.
NOTE: Some models may have a cap on the valve. Unscrew the cap and
discard.
4. Secure copper tubing with STEEL CLAMP and screw to rear panel at location
show (Figure 3).
5.Route watersupplyinto coilas shown(Figure3).
NOTE: To prevent vibration noise and wear, leave a space between all
tubingandotherservices.
6. Turn on water supply and check all connections and leaks (Figure 3).
7.Plugrefrigeratorcordintowalloutlet(Figure3).
IMPORTANT
Iceproduction will beginwhenfreezer reachesnormaloperating temperature.
Air in new plumbing lines may cause ice maker to cycle two or three times before
makingafulltrayofice.
Newplumbingmaycause ice to be discoloredorhave poor flavor. Discard icemade
duringthefirst24hours.Afterinstallation,ifyouwishtoshuttheicemakeroff,lift
shutoffarmuntilitclicksandlocksinUPposition.

• Installtherefrigeratorinthecoolestpartoftheroom,outofdirectsunlightand
awayfromheatingductsor registers.Do notplacetherefrigeratornext toheat-
producingappliancessuchasarange,oven,ordishwasher.Ifthisisnotpossible,
asectionof cabinetry,oranaddedlayerofinsulationbetweenthetwoappliances
willhelptherefrigeratoroperatemoreefficiently.
• Levelrefrigeratorsodoorsclosetightly.
• RefertothisOwner'sGuide forthesuggestedrefrigeratorsettings.
• Periodiccleaningofthecondenserwillhelptherefrigeratorrunmoreefficiently.
See "Outside" in the Care and Cleaning Section.
• Donotovercrowdtherefrigeratororblock coldairvents,whicharelocatedinthe
refrigeratorcompartmentat thetop centerofthe rearwall. Doing socausesthe
refrigeratortorun longeranduse moreenergy.Shelves shouldnotbe linedwith
aluminum foil, wax paper, or paper toweling. Liners interfere with cold air
circulation,makingtherefrigeratorlessefficient,whichcouldcausefoodspoilage.
• Coverfoodsandwipecontainersdrybeforeplacingthemintherefrigerator.This
cutsdownon moisture build-upinsidethe unit.
• Organize the refrigerator to reduce door openings. Remove as many items as
needed at one time, and close door as soon as possible.
Setting the Controls Cool Down Period
Toensuresafefoodstorage, allowrefrigerator tooperatewiththedoors closedfor
at least 8 to 12 hours before loading with food.
Refrigerator Control
• Therefrigeratorcontrolshouldbesetatthemidpointofthedialforatrialperiod
of24hours.
• After24 hours,adjust thecontrolasneeded.Forcoldertemperatures, turndial
a notch toward COLDEST. For warmer temperatures, turn dial a notch toward
COLD. Adjust temperatures by one increment at a time.
Freezer Control
• Thefreezer controlshouldbesetatthemidpoint ofthe dialforatrialperiodof
24hours.
• After24 hours,adjust thecontrolasneeded.Forcoldertemperatures, turndial
a notch toward COLDEST. For warmer temperatures, turn dial a notch toward
COLD. Adjust temperatures by one increment at a time.
Note: When first setting the controls or when changing a setting, wait 24 hours
forthe temperature tostabilize, before makingadditional changes.
Turning the freezer control may change temperatures in both compartments. For
example,ifthefreezercontrolisturnedtoacoldersetting,therefrigeratorcontrol
may have to be adjusted to a warmer one. Turning the refrigerator control will
changeonly therefrigeratortemperature.
IMPORTANT: If the freezer control is turned to OFF, cooling stops in both
compartments.
You may hear the "Frost Free" system working. A fan circulates air in the
refrigerator and freezer compartments. For good circulation and maintenance of
proper cooling temperatures, do not block cold air vents with food items. Water
draining into the defrost water pan and hissing sounds are normal during the
automatic"Frost Free"cycle.

Fresh Food Storage Door Storage
Bins and Shelves:
Doorbinsand shelvesareprovidedforconvenientstorageofjars,bottlesandcans.
Itemsusedoftenareavailableforquickselection.
Doorbinscanbemovedtosuitindividual needs.Removebins byliftingstraightup.
Placebins inthedesired position,and loweroverthe supports.
Dairy Compartment:
The Dairy Compartment is warmer than the general food storage section, and is
intendedfor short termstorage ofcheese,spreads, orbutter.In somemodels,the
Dairy Compartment module is removable and interchangeable with any other bin
ontherefrigerator door. Tousethe additional storage shelfmoldedinto the top
of the Dairy Compartment module, place module down on the next set of shelf
supports,orlower.
Tall Bottle Retainer (some models):
TheTallBottleRetainerkeeps tallcontainersinthebin fromfallingforwardwhen
openingorclosingtherefrigeratordoor. Toinstall,holdtheretaineratthetop,and
slideitovertheoutsidewallof thebin,asshown. Notethattheretainerworksbest
with the use of a bin snugger.
Micro-Serve Dishes (some models)
Food can be stored, cooked*, and served in Micro-Serve Dishes provided in some
models.Thesedishesslideeasilyintotheirowntray,whichhangs belowadoorbin,
convenientlyfreeingshelfspaceforotheritems.
*Remove plastic lidbefore cooking. Lidis intended forstorage only.
Crisper
TheCrisperDrawer,locatedunderthebottomrefrigeratorshelf,isforstoringfruits
and vegetables. Most produce should be washed in clear water, and drained
beforeplacingin thisdrawer. Itemswith strong odorsor high moistureshouldbe
wrapped before storing.
The humidity control (some models) allows you to adjust the humidity within the
crisperdrawer.This canextendthelifeof freshvegetableswhich keepbestinhigh
humidity. Leafy vegetables, however, keep best when stored with the humidity
control set on HIGH, or in a drawer without a humidity control. This keeps
incoming air to a minimum and maintains maximum moisture content.
Meat Keeper
The Meat Keeper is located at the bottom of the refrigerator. The temperature in
this compartment can be made colder than the rest of the refrigerator
compartment by sliding the Chilled Air Control Knob within the COLDEST or COLD
range. Meatwillbe partially frozen,andmay be kept freshlongerthan if stored
onarefrigeratorshelf.
Before placing items in the Meat Keeper, follow these steps to keep meat fresh:
1. Always handle meat with clean hands, and keep compartment clean.
2. Storemeatinitsoriginalwrapper.If necessary,overwrapinplasticwraporfoil
toprevent drying. Wrapfish tightlytoprevent odortransferto otherfoods.
3. Ifspoilageeveroccurs,disinfect thecompartment withliquidchlorinebleach,
following label directions. Then rinse with a solution baking soda and water
solution.Rinse withclearwateranddry.
Freezer Basket
Theslide-outwire basketthathangs below thebottom freezer shelfprovideseasy
access to frozen food packages.
Tall Storage Compartment (some models)
Ashelfis attached to thefreezerwall just belowtheice server. Thisallowsfor
convenientstorageof tallitemsplaced vertically betweentheice serverandthe
freezerwall.

Refrigeratorshelvesareeasilyadjusted tosuitindividualneeds.Beforeadjusting
shelves, remove all food. Remove and discard shipping clips wedged into the
cantileverrailabovetheshelfhook(seebelow). Theseclipsstabilize theshelves
duringshipping.
Toadjustthecantilevershelves (supportedattherearoftherefrigerator),liftthe
backoftheshelfupandout. Replaceshelfbyinsertingrearhooksinto slots.Lower
andlockintoposition.
Spillsafe™ glass shelves catch and hold accidental
spills. In some models, Spillsafe™ shelves slide out
for easy access to food, and fast cleaning. Shelves
slide out independentlyofthecantileverbracket. Just
pullfront ofshelfforward. Shelfcanbe extendedas far
as stopper will allow, and is not removable from the
cantileverbracket.
Wine Rack (some models)
Thewinerackstoresbottlesofwine,orsingle2-literplasticbottlesofjuiceorsoda
pop. To install, slide wine rack onto the shelf with the curve facing in. To
remove, slide wine rack out. Install on either side of a Spillsafe™ shelf.

Automatic Ice and
Water Dispenser
Theiceandwaterdispenseronthefreezerdoorconvenientlydispenseschilledwater,
crushedice,andicecubes.Tooperate dispenser,press thepadfortheselection of
yourchoice. Pressaglassagainstthedispensingarm,asshownleft. Besuretohold
theglassupasfaraspossibletocatchallcubes.Tostopdispensing,pullglassaway
fromdispensing arm. When dispensingice, releasedispensingarm beforeglassis
full,but donot removethe glassuntiltheicehascompletelydispensed.(Complete
instructionsfordispenseroperationareattachedtotheinsideofthefreezerdoor.)
Asmallheatedareabeneaththedispenserfloorcatchesandevaporatessmallspills.
Thisdriptray is removable anddishwashersafe. Do notpourwater or excesscubes
intothisarea,becausethere isnodrain.
How the Water Dispenser Works
The water tank is located behind the drawers in therefrigerator compartment. As
thewaterisdispensed,thetankisautomaticallyrefilled. Forproperoperationofthe
dispenser,thesupplywater pressure must fallbetween30 psi and 120psi.
Afterrefrigeratorisinstalled,andtheplumbingconnectionsarecomplete,fillthe
water tank by drawing one glass of water. This may take approximately
1-1/2 minutes. Next draw and discard 7 more glasses to be sure tank and plumbing
connectionsarerinsedofanyimpurities.Thewaterdeliverysystemhasabuiltinshut
offdevicethat will stop thewater flow after 3minutesof continuous use. Simply
releasethe actuatorbutton toresetthe dispensingmechanism.
How the Ice Dispenser Works
Theicemaker and icestoragebin are located inthetop left cornerofthe freezer
compartment.Afterrefrigeratorisinstalledproperlyandhascooledforseveralhours,
theicemaker can beginmakingice. To begin iceproduction,lower the wire signal
armtothe "down" or ONposition.As cubes aremade,they are storedinthe storage
bin.Withnousage it will take approximately2days to fill the bin.However,the
dispenser may be used after the first batch of ice is made. Ice maker turns off
automaticallywhentheicestoragebinisfull.
Because of the new plumbing connections, the first production of ice cubes may be
discolored, or have an odd flavor. These should be discarded until cubes made are
freeofdiscolorationandtaste. Remember that water quality
determinesyouricequality. Itis besttoconnecttheice makerto waterthatisnot
softened. Chemicals from a malfunctioning softener can damage the ice maker. If
icemaker isconnected tosoft water,ensurethesoftenerismaintainedandworking
properly.
Tostoptheicemaker,liftthewiresignalarmuntilitclicks,andlocksinthe"up"or
OFFposition.
Light
The dispenser has a light that can be turned on and off by pressing the "Light ON/
OFF"pad. Thelight alsoturns onautomaticallywheniceand/orwaterisdispensed.
Replace light bulb with an appliance bulb of the same wattage.

Lockout Feature
To help prevent unwanted use, your dispenser is also equipped with a lock out
featurethat allowsyou todisable theentire iceandwatersystemforoperating.To
activate,simplypressthepictureofthepadlock(seeillustration)untiltheredlight
comesonin the windowaboveit (3-5 seconds).Todeactivate the lockoutfeature,
repeat the above procedure until the red light goes out. Your ice and water
dispensingsystemis again readyfor normal use.

Ice Dispenser Tips
1. Ice cubes stored too long may develop an odd flavor. Empty the container
and returnitto theproperposition. Ice maker willthenproduce moreice.
2. Occasionallyshake containerto keepice separated.
3. Ifdispensing armispushed informore than4minutes, thedispenser motormay
overloadand stop.Theoverloadprotectorwillresetautomatically after3 or4
minutes.Ifalargequantityoficeisneededatonetime,itisbesttoremovecubes
directlyfromicestoragebin.
4. Certain sounds are normal when the ice maker is operating. They are:
• Motor operation
• Ice being loosened from the tray
• Icedroppinginto the storage bin
• Running water
• Water valve opening or closing

Section.
5. Stoptheice maker when cleaning thefreezer,or for long vacations.
6. Iftheice makeristo beturnedoff foralong periodoftime, turnwatersupply
valvetotheclosedposition.
System Startup:
Water supply does not need to be turned off, however do not use ice and water
dispenserwhileinstallingfilter. RefertoFigure1asyoucompletetheseinstructions.
Thefiltercartridgehasalreadybeeninstalledinthefilterhousingatthefactory.Refer
tothe"How the DispenserWorks"section to properlyfillthe system withwater.
Cleaning Ice Dispenser
Cleanthedispenserandicestoragebinatregularintervals,particularlybeforeyou
takeavacation,move,orificedispensersticks.
1. Stopice production bylifting the wiresignal arm tothe "up" orOFF position.
2. Removeice storagebin bylifting upand out.Empty andcarefully cleanbinwith
milddetergent. Donotsubmerge augerwhilecleaning.Rinsewith clearwater.
Donotuse harsh or abrasive cleaners. Allowicebin to dry completely before
replacinginthefreezer.
3. Remove ice chips, and clean the shelf and chute that supports the ice storage
bin.
4. Replace ice storage bin. Lower the wire signal arm on the ice maker to the
"down" or ON position. Ice maker will resume production.
IMPORTANT: When removing or replacing ice bin, do not rotate the auger in
theicebin. Ifaugerisaccidentallyturned,youmustrealigntheaugerbyturning
itin 90°turns,until theice binfitsinto placewith thedrivemechanism. For
furtherinstruction,seelabelonicebucket.
Remove and empty the ice storage bin if:
1. An extended power failure (one hour or longer) causes ice cubes in the ice
storage bin to melt, freeze together, and jam the dispenser mechanism.
2. Theicedispenserisnotusedfrequently.Icecubeswillfreezetogetherinthebin
and jam dispenser mechanism. Remove ice storage bin, and shake to loosen
cubes.
NEVERuseanicepickorsimilarsharpinstrumenttobreak upice. Thiscould damage
the ice storage bin and dispenser mechanism.
PureSource Plus™ Ice and Water Filter (some models)
NOTE: If you purchased a refrigerator with a PureSource Plus ™ Ice and
Water filter, please read the following use and care information.
Thisiceandwaterfiltersystemfilterswatertoyouricemakerandwaterdispenser.
Itislocatedintheupperrightbackcornerofthefreshfoodcompartment(see Figure
1onthe following page).

Afterreplacingthefiltercartridge,itwillbenecessarytoresetthefilteruseup
indicatorthatislocatedontheiceandwaterdispenser(seeillustrationonpage
7).Pressthe"ChangeWaterFilter"pad.Iftheindicatorlightwasredoramber,
youwillneedtopressthepadfor3-5secondstoreset.Ifthelightisstillgreenyou
willneed topress thepadfor10-12secondstoreset.Thelightwillflash onand

Changing the Filter:
Waterqualityvariesthroughout the world. To ensure thehighestpossible water
quality,changewaterfilterevery6months,or200 gallons. Also,iffilterhasbeen
inarefrigerator thathasnot beeninuse for awhile(duringmoving forexample),
changefilterbeforereinstallingrefrigerator. Notedispensersystemwillalsooperate
withoutfiltration(withfiltercartridgeremoved).
Tochangefilter:
RefertoFigure1asneeded.Itisnotnecessaryto turnthewatersupplyoff tochange
thefilter.
1.Set icemaker lever(wire signalarm) tothe OFF(up) position.
2.Hold filtercupfirmly, andunscrewcounter clockwise(Figure 1).(Somewater
couldleak outasyou removecup.This isnormal.) Filter cartridgeshould come
downwithcup. Ifcartridgeremainsinhousing,pulldowngently,while twisting
filterbackandforth.
3. Empty cup of any substance.
4.Thelargeo-ring(Figure1)thatsealsthefiltersystemsetsintheo-ringgroove
downinsidethecup.Shouldtheo-ringfalloutduringfiltercartridgereplacement,
simplyplace itbackinthegroove priorto screwingthe cupbackinplace.If the
o-ring becomes damaged, you will need to order a new one from the Consumer
AssistanceCenter.
5.Discardoldfiltercartridge.
6.Remove newfiltercartridgefrompackaging,andinstall.
7.Place filtercartridge incup.Theendwiththesmall o-ringshould beup, out
ofthecup.
8. Screw cup, with filter, back onto housing. DO NOT USE WRENCH TO REINSTALL
CUP.Filtercartridgewillself-alignascupistightened.Besurecupiscompletely
tightened with PureSource Plus ™ Logo facing outward. DO NOT TIGHTEN PAST
STOP.
9. Set ice maker level on the ON (down) position.
10.Checkforleaks.Openrefrigerator door.Wipeanywaterdropsfromthefiltercup.
Runaglassofwater.Ifthereisaleak,unscrewfiltercup,andreinsertthefilter
cartridge.CheckplacementoflargeO-ring(seeFigure1).Reinstallfiltercup,
makingcertainitistightenedcompletely.
11.Toconditionfiltersystemandpurgeair fromwaterline,runseveral glassesof
water through waterdispenser.This will alsoassurethat the purestwater
possibleis storedinwater tank.
