II Introduction
SoilResistivityTester alsoKnown as GroundResistance •Soil
Resistivity Tester, Precision Ground ResistanceTester, etc., is acommonly
used meter formeasuringgrounding resistance. It adopts alargeLCD
gray-whitescreen backlightdisplayand microprocessortechnologyto meet
the requirementsoftwo-wire、three-wire andfour-wire testresistance and
soilresistivity. Suitablefortelecommunications, electricity, meteorology,
computerrooms,oil fields, power distributionlines, iron tower
transmissionlines, gas stations, factory grounding networks,lightningrods
and so on. Instrument testing is precise, fast, simple,stable and reliable.
The Soil Resistivity Tester is controlledby themicroprocessorandcan
automatically detect the connectionstatusofeachinterfaceandthe
interference voltage and interference frequency of the ground network,and
has the function of testingthe auxiliarygroundingresistancevalue.At the
same timestore500sets ofdata, resistancemeasurementrange: 0.01Ω~
30.00kΩ,grounding voltagerange:0.01~100.0V. Onlinemonitoring data
throughmonitoringsoftware, USBdatauploaded toPCanduniquefeaturessuch
as intelligent alarm alert

VI Measuring Principle
1.Groundvoltage measurement usingaverage rectification。
2.Thegroundingresistance value ismeasured usingtherated currentchange
method, thatis,the ACrated current Iflows betweenthegroundelectrode
ofthemeasuringobjectEand theHcurrent electrode to obtain the potential
differenceVbetweenthe Egroundelectrodeandthe Svoltageelectrode, and
calculate the groundingresistance Raccording to theformulaR=V/I.In order
toensuretheaccuracy of the test,afour-wire method was designedto increase
the ES auxiliary ground. During the actual test, ES and E were clamped at
thesamepoint of the grounding body.Thefour-wiretestcaneliminatethe
influenceofthecontactresistance(usuallydirtorrust)onthemeasured
grounding body,auxiliarygrounding rod,test clip, and the inputinterface
ofthe instrumenttothe measurement,andcaneliminatetheinfluence ofthe
wireresistance onthe measurement,more precise.

VII Operation
1.Switch on/off
PressthePOWER button to switch onandoff. Afterturning onthemachine,
the lowercorner shows"APO"andit willautomatically shutdown after15
minuteswhen it isnot operating.
2Battery Voltage Check

Afterpoweringon,ifthe LCD shows alowbattery voltagesymbol “”,
itindicatesthatthebatteryisrunninglow.Pleasechargeitintime.The
batterypowerissufficienttoensuretheaccuracyof themeasurement.When
the battery powerdecreases, the powerindicator bardecreases.
3GroundVoltageMeasurement
One auxiliarygrounding rod isrequired forthe ground
voltagetest.
As long as the instrumentis connected to theground
through the tes
twire and the auxiliary groundingrod,the
other test wires of the instrument interface cannot be
connected to the Land Nwires ofthe commercial power
supply. Otherwise,the leakage mayoccur, and the circuit
breakermay start up andbe dangerous.
Ground voltage test cannot exceed 100V。
Grounding voltage: whenthe ground faultoftheelectrical equipment
occurs,thepotentialdifferencebetweenthegroundingdevicecasing,the
grounding wire, the grounding bodyand the zeropotential point,the
groundingvoltageistheearth'sreferencepoint,potentialdifferencewith
the earth,the earth is zero potentialpoint.
Anauxiliarygroundingrodisrequiredfor theground voltagetest.Note
the differencefrom thecommercial AC voltagetest.See thefollowingfigure:
Afterthe meter,auxiliary groundingrod andtest line areallconnected,
afterpoweron,pressfunctionbuttonU,andthe LCDshowsthetestresult.
4Wire resistance check
Inorder toimprove the precision and stability ofthegrounding
resistancemeasuredinthefield,theerrorcausedby thechangeof the wire
resistance due to the test line being used for a long time is avoided; To
avoidtheerrorcausedbythetestlinenotcompletelyinsertedinto the

instrument interface orpoor contact;toavoid the error caused by the user
toreplace or lengthen thetest line, theline resistance checkfunction is
specially designedtomeasure thelow-value resistance more accurately.
Afterconnecting the test line and the meter, short theother end ofall
the test lines. As shown in the figure below, press the function button R
toswitch tothe corresponding groundresistance measurementposition.Press
“”keyto startcalibration,LED indicator flashes during calibration,
LCD countdowndisplay, LCD displayafter calibration.
Shutdowndoes notsave the verificationline resistance.Thenexttime
it is turned on,it needs to be recalibrated.
5Four-wire precision test grounding resistance
When testingthegrounding resistance, firstconfirm the
grounding voltage of thegroundingwire,thatis,the voltages
of Hand Eor Sand ES must be lessthan 20V. Ifthegrounding
voltageisabove5V, them
eter displays theNOISE symbol, then,
the measurement value ofthegroundingresistance may be
inaccurate.At thistime,themeasured groundingdeviceis first
de-
energizedso that thegrounding voltage islowered andthen
the grounding resistancetestis performed.
Four-wire test:The four-wire testeliminates the influenceof the
contactresistance(usually dirt orrust) onthemeasuredgroundingbody,
auxiliarygroundingbar,testclip,andtheinputinterfaceof theinstrument
tothemeasurement,caneliminate theimpactofwireresistanceon the
measurement, better thanthe three-wire test.
Seethefollowingfigure:Beginningwiththemeasuredobject,generally

(black,green, yellow,andred)fromthe E, ES, S,and Hinterfacesofthe

Measure the totalgrounding resistance of a
complexgrounding
system.Thedistance disthedistance of the largest diagonal
of the grounding system.
Duringthetest,the testleads cannot beintertwined with each
other. Otherwise, the test accuracy may be affected.
Foramulti-pointindependent grounding system orageodetic grounding
system,theusercanchoosealonger testline,and the electrode spacing
isgreater than 5timesthemaximum diagonal length ofthetestednetwork.

isacountdownindicationduringthe testandstable data is displayed after
thetestiscompleted.Thatis,thegroundingresistancevalue RH of the
groundingresistancevalueandthe auxiliarycurrentpole H,thegrounding
resistancevalue RS of groundingresistancevalue Rand auxiliaryvoltage
pole S.
Asshown inthefollowing figure,the tested grounding resistance is2.77
Ω,the groundingresistanceoftheauxiliary currentRHis0.27KΩ,andthe
grounding resistance of theauxiliary voltage electrodeRSis0.22KΩ.

6Three-wire Test Grounding Resistance
Three-wiretest:As shownbelow, short-circuittheES,Einterface of
the instrument,which isathree-wire test, instrument operation is the same
asfour-wiretest.The three-wiretest cannot eliminate the influence ofthe
wireresistanceonthemeasurement,norcaniteliminate theinfluenceof
the changeofthe contactresistancebetween theinstrument andthetestwire
andtheinfluence ofthechangebetweenthetestwireandtheauxiliary
grounding rod.Whenmeasuring, the oxidelayeron the surfaceof the ground
bodytobemeasured mustalso be removed.
7Two-wire Easy Test Grounding Resistance
Two-wiretest::Thismethodis asimple measurementmethod thatdoesnot
usethe auxiliary grounding rod.Itusesthegroundingelectrode withthe
smallestvalueofthe groundingresistanceastheauxiliarygrounding
electrode,anduses two simpletestlinestoconnecttheHS interfaceand
the E-ESinterface.).Theauxiliary ground rodsHand Smaybereplaced with
metallic groundpipessuchasmetalwater pipesand firehydrants,common
groundingofcommercialpowersystems,or lightning protectiongrounds of
buildings,etc.,take caretoremovethe oxide layer attheconnection point
of theselected metalauxiliarygroundingbodyduring measurement.Wiring
as shown below, the instrumentoperation same as thefour-wire test.
When using the commercialpowersystem groundingasan
auxiliary grounding polemeasurement, itmustbeconfirmed
that it is thegroundingpole of acommercialpowersystem.
Otherwise, the circuit breakermaystart upandbein danger.
Use asimpletwo-
wire methodto measurethegrounding
resistance,andtryto selectthegroundingbodywith asmall
re value astheauxiliarygroundingelectrodesothat the
meter reading iscloser tothe truevalue. When measuring,

Then, the grounding resistanceofthe measured grounding bodyis:

8Soil Resistivity Test
Thesoilresistivity ρisanimportantfactorthatdeterminesthe
grounding resistance ofthegrounding body.土壤电阻率ρ是决定接地体接地电

resistivities,eventhesame kindof soil, becauseof different temperature
and moisture content,thesoilresistivity willalsohaveasignificant

groundingdevice, the designedgroundingdevice can better meet theneeds
of the actualwork, and thesoil resistivitymust bemeasured.
Thesoilresistivitywasmeasuredbythefour-polemethod(Winner
method).
The soil resistivity ρis calculated accordingtothe formula ρ=2π
aR (Ωm), andtheunit is Ωm,and:

Four-pole method (Winner method):Connect the testleads as shownbelow.
Notethespacing betweentheauxiliarygroundingbarsandthedepthof
burial,bury H, S, ES, and Eauxiliary ground rodsin thegroundin astraight
line,connect thegrounding testleads (red, yellow,green, and black)from
the H, S, ES, and Econnectors of the instrument to the H, S, ES, and Eauxiliary
grounding rods under test.
Auxiliarygroundrodspacingsetting:Afterconnectingthetestline,press
thefunctionbutton ρtoenter thesoilresistivitytestmode, pressand
holdthe “SET”key(morethan3seconds)toenter thespacingsettingof
the auxiliarygrounding rod, shortpress " " to move thecursor, press
" "or""keyto changethe currentvalue(value arange:1m~100m),
longpress"SET"key (more than3seconds) to savethe set value aandreturn
to soilresistivity testmode.
Aftersetting value a,in soilresistivity test mode, press “TEST”key
to start the test, and count down to display the test progress. After the
testiscompleted,a stablesoil resistivityvalueis displayed.
Asshowninthefollowingfigure,themeasuredsoilresistivityis 47.23
Ωm,the groundingresistancevalue RH of theauxiliarycurrentelectrode
is0.34KΩ,andthegrounding resistance value RS oftheauxiliaryvoltage
electrode is 0.28KΩ.After thisdisplayis completed,it willautomatically
return back to desplay the testedsoil resistivity ρ.

9.BacklightControl
Afterpower on,press “”keytoturnthe backlightonoroff,and
the backlightfunctionissuitable fordim places.Thedefaultbacklightturns
off every time youturn it on.
10.Alarm Setting
Afterpoweron, short press “”toturnon andoffthe alarm function.
Shortpress"SET"key toset the resistancealarm value, press ""key to
move the cursor, press " " or " " key to change the current size, and
then press "SET"key tosave and exit. Whenthe measuredvalueis greater
than the alarm critical setting value and the alarmfunctionis turned on,
the meterdisplays the ""symboland issues a “beep-beep-beep--”alarm
sound.The maximum valueoftheground voltagealarm settingis 100V, the
maximumvalueofthegroundresistancealarmsettingis3000Ω,and the
maximumvalueofthe soilresistivity alarm settingis 9999Ωm. As shown
below:
11.Data Lock/Storage
Afterthepower-onormeasurementiscompleted, shortpress"MEM"key
tolock the current displaydata,and automaticallynumbered and storage. If
thememory isfull, themeter displaysthe"FULL" symbol.Asshown below:
The measurement datais1032Ω.Short press “MEM”to displaythedata showed
thatitisstoredas thethirdgroup.

Afterthepoweron ormeasurementis completed,press and holdthe"MEM"
button (morethan 3seconds) to enter the datareviewmode.Theinterface
correspondingto the stored datainterfaceandthestoreddata groupnumber
flashalternately.Press " "or""key toselectthecorrespondingdata
ofthearraynumberwithastepby1,holddownthe""or""keyto
selectthearraynumberwithastep by5,thenpress"MEM"toexit.Seebelow
Inthefigurebelow,thenumber3isthe currentgroupnumber,and6is
the total group number. If nodata is stored,theLCDdisplays"NULL".See
the figurebelow.
Under datareviewstatus, press "SET"keytoenterdatadeletion, press
""or " " keytoselect"NO"or "YES", select "NO"and then press “SET”
key tonotreturn data review status, select "YES". Press the " SET"key again
todeletethestoreddata.After thedeletion,thefollowingfigureis
displayed.
13.Data Upload
ConnecttheUSBcommunicationcableofthecomputerandtheinstrument,
turn on the instrument andrunthemonitoringsoftware. If the USB connection
is successful,thestoredhistorical datacan beread,uploadedtothe
computer and saved.
The monitoringsoftware hason-line real-time monitoring andhistorical
queryfunctions,dynamicdisplay,alarmvaluesettingandalarmindication
function, and functions such as reading, viewing,savingandprinting of
historicaldata.
