Overall Warnings
Damage caused by misuse may void the
manufacturer’s warranty. Failure to comply with
the following guidelines may result in injury or
damage to the equipment. Additional warnings
are found throughout the document.
GENERAL
This simulator is constructed of material that
approximates skin texture. Therefore, in handling
the model, use the same gentle techniques as
you would in working with a patient.
Do not wrap this or any other Gaumard product
in newsprint.
Indelible marks made with ballpoint pens, ink or
marker cannot be removed.
Do not use alcohol, acetone, Betadine® or any
other antiseptic which contains iodine in this or
any Gaumard® simulator. These products could
damage or stain the skin of the simulator.
STORAGE
Improper storage may damage the simulator.
Keep it stored in the box and/or bag provided.
Store the simulator in a cool, dry place.
Extended storage should be between 32 - 85
degrees F (0-29 Celsius). Other temperatures
will cause the simulator to soften and slowly
warp.
Do not stack or store heavy materials on top
of the box and/or bag.
It is acceptable to operate the simulator at an
ambient temperature of 95 degrees Fahrenheit
(35 Celsius).
CLEANING
Clean the skin of the simulator after every
training session. The skin should be cleaned
with a cloth, dampened with diluted liquid dish
washing soap.
Do not clean with harsh abrasives.
Dry thoroughly.
The simulator is “splash-proof” but not water-
proof. Do not submerge or allow water to enter
the interior of the simulator.

FILLING THE SACS.
1. Place the Male Catheterization Simulator in
the location where it will be demonstrated
2. Fill the external bladder tank with water and
position it on the stand next to the simulator,
ensure the clamp is tightened.
3. Insert the hose from the external bladder
tank to the simulator’s abdominal port.
4. To ll the internal bladder tank, raise the
external bladder tank above the simulator and
open the clamp.
5. When the water transfer has been
completed, put the auxiliary tank back on the
stand, apply the clamp and disconnect it from
the simulator.
6. Use the stopper to plug the open port on
the abdomen.

Simulator Features
BLADDER CATHETERIZATION
One of the most important elements of nursing
care is bladder catheterization, i.e. the removal
of urine from the bladder by the introduction of a
catheter. The S230.7 was designed with realistic
features that permit bladder catheterization
training. The simulator allows catheterization
in the seated or recumbent position. Internal
mechanisms of the simulator permit the
instructor to:
• Teach catheterization techniques.
• Familiarize trainees with male external
anatomy.
• Feel resistance during insertion of catheter.
• Feel simulated bladder contraction.
The gure below shows a simulated male
bladder catheterization with the use of a urinary
catheter.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
When practicing catheterization, the penis must
be manipulated to permit the passage of the 18
Fr urinary catheter.
1. Collect items required for procedure, and
move simulator to desired position and
location.
2. Position a urine “catch-basin” below the
penis. The drain end of the catheter will lead
to here.
3. Please refer to “Filling the Sacs” in Chapter 3
“Equipment Set Up” to prepare the simulator
for use.
4. Apply lubricant to catheter.
5. Continue procedure following aseptic
technique.
Always lubricate the catheter using
silicone lubricant. Failure to lubricate
the catheter will damage the internal
valves and cause leakage.
SIMULATING BLADDER CONTRACTION
Bladder catheterization exercises may also be
carried out with the aid of an auxiliary tank placed
upon a stand near the simulator, to simulate
bladder contraction. Fill the tank with water,
apply the clamp and attach to the suprapubic
stoma of the simulator. The elevation of the tank
and loosening of the clamp provides gravity
feed of the uid to simulate bladder contractions
when catheter is inserted.
When you get a good feel for increasing the
urinary outow with the squeeze bulb, you may
also utilize it for simulating contractions.
INCREASING URINARY OUTFLOW
Bladder catheterization exercises may also
be carried out with the aid of the airbag and
squeeze bulb located in the anterior of the
manikin. Squeezing the bulb with the air valve
closed will cause the internal airbag to inate
and press upon the internal bladder tank,
simulating contraction.

12 | User Guide | Working with the Simulator |
The valve may be turned to open in order to
release air from the internal airbag.
WARNING
When inating the internal airbag with
the squeeze bulb, be careful to not
over-inate as this may damage the
airbag.
MALE CATHETERIZATION
The urethra is connected to an internal
urinary bladder. Leakage is minimized through
removable internal valves located between the
urethra opening and the bladder. Training on
asepsis and disinfection is also possible.
Apply silicone oil to the catheter tip
before catheterization.
RECTAL EXAMINATION
Rectal wall can be palpated using the simulator.
