1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Your warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse. It is critical
to understand and comply with the following guideline.
The lubricants and other accessories provided are for use with the accompanying patient
simulator only. The lubricants and other accessories are not suitable for human use,
medical treatment, or diagnosis and should never be used for such purposes.
General
• Ballpoint pens, ink, and markers permanently stain the skin.
• Do not wrap this or any other Gaumard product in newsprint.
• Marks made with ballpoint pens, ink, or marker cannot be removed.
• Replacement parts are available from Gaumard Scientific or your distributor.
Operating Conditions
• The simulator will only power on when connected to the AC power supply.
• Operating temperature: 50°-95° F (10°-35° C)
• Humidity: 5%-95% (non-condensing)
WARNING: To avoid damage to the simulator, please store and ship it in the clear poly bag provided.
Storage Conditions
• Store the simulator in a cool, dry place. Extended storage at temperatures above 85
degrees Fahrenheit (29 Celsius) will cause the simulator to soften and slowly warp.
• Humidity: 40%-60% (non-condensing)
• Do not stack or store heavy materials on top of the case the simulator is stored in.
WARNING: To avoid damage to the simulator, please store and ship it in the clear poly bag provided.

Procedures
• Do not attempt to intubate without lubricating the airway adjunct with mineral oil. Failure to lubricate
the device will make intubation very dicult and is likely to result in damage to the simulator.
• Mouth to mouth resuscitation without a barrier device is not recommended, as it will contaminate the airway.
• Treat the simulator with the same precautions that would be used with a real patient.
Cleaning
• The simulator should be cleaned with a cloth dampened with diluted liquid
dishwashing soap and warm water. Then, dry thoroughly.
• Remove all traces of any lubricant.
• Do not clean with harsh abrasives.
• Do not use povidone -iodine on the simulator.
• Do not use citric acid-based cleaning formulas as this will cause pitting of the various materials.
• The simulator is “splash-proof” but not water-proof. Do not submerge
or allow water to enter the interior of the simulator.
CO2 Exhalation
Read all the safety and warning information included with the CO2 cartridge package before installing.
• Never point the CO2 cartridge at yourself or others
• Remove the CO2 cartridge only when the LOW CO2 warning is displayed on the main screen.
• Do not use damaged CO2 cartridge.
• Do not over tighten the cartridge into the adapter harness.
• Do not puncture the cartridge CO2 seal manually.
• Do not expose the CO2 cartridges to high temperatures.
WARNING: Due to shipping regulations, CO2 cartridges are NOT included with the simulator.
The required 16 gram threaded CO2 3/8" - 24UNF-2A cartridges can be purchased
at most bicycle or hardware stores. 12-gram cartridges are also compatible.

2.1 FEATURES
HAL S1030 is a Dynamic Airway and Lung Compliance simulator with the following features:

2.2 TERMINOLOGY
Facilitator
The person conducting the simulation, an instructor or lab sta member.
Palette
A collection of vital signs details that demonstrate a patient's progress or decline during a session.
Profile
A unique software configuration that includes custom palettes, scenarios, and options. Each profile
acts as a separate program, so changes made to one profile do not aect the others.
Provider
A person participating in the simulation as a healthcare provider.
Scenario
A saved sequence of physiological states that progress like a playlist. Scenarios provide a level of
automation that unburdens the facilitator and allows a standardized presentation of symptoms.
Scenario Item
A palette item that is part of a scenario. Scenario Items may also represent a
fixed delay period like "Wait" or a pause like "Wait Indefinitely."
UNI™
The software application used to control the simulator and document care providers' actions.

3. INITIAL SETUP
3.1 UNBOXING
• Remove the simulator from the blue case carefully with the assistance of at least two people.
• Avoid lifting the simulator by the arms as it could damage the shoulder joints.
• Rest the simulator on a patient bed or table capable of supporting the weight of a real patient.
• It is recommended that HAL’s head rest flat on the bed or on a
thin pillow to prevent the face skin from shifting.

1. Remove the fixed bolts from the knee joints
using the hexagonal wrench included.
2. For the right leg, first connect the white
CO2 tubing of the upper and lower leg
then align the Align the lower leg insert
to the knee joint and secure the knee
bolts using the hexagonal wrenches.
NOTE: Connect the white CO2 tubing for the
right leg when aligning the lower leg insert.

3.4 INTERNAL BATTERY SETUP
HAL is shipped with a disconnected battery for safety purposes. Before
use, please connect the battery, as shown below.
1. Locate the battery connectors
on HAL's right-hand side.
2. Gently lift the right corner of the chest skin
and connect the battery connectors.
WARNING: Do not touch or move the lung bags inside the simulator Doing so will
aect the lung compliance system. If the lung compliance system is aected, it may
have to be returned to Gaumard Repairs or a Field Technician will have to recalibrate
it. Internal components are serviced by Gaumard certified technicians ONLY.
3. Slide the connected battery wires into the
cavity and secure the skin to HAL's torso.
NOTE: Please charge HAL with the power
supply that came with his accesories. HAL
has a battery run time of approximately 6
hours running on his initial start up settings.
Runtime may vary depending on usage.

3.5 LAPTOP CONNECTION
1. Connect the RJ45 Communications
Module to the blue RJ45 Cable.
2. Connect the other end of the blue RJ45 cable to
the communications port of HAL's right side.
3. Connect the USB port of the RJ45
Communications Module to an
available port on the laptop.
4.After reading the manufacturer's care
and caution information, press the
power button to turn on the laptop.

3.6 INITIALIZING THE SIMULATOR WITH UNI™
1. The UNI software is preloaded onto the
laptop, which is used to initialize the
simulator and control vital signs. Double
click the UNI icon on the home screen.
2. The simulator selection menu will appear.
Select the corresponding simulator:
Dynamic Airway and Lung Compliance.
3. When selecting the appropriate
profile, be sure that the correct serial
number from your simulator is entered
into the profile and click 'Start'.
4.Once the software is loaded, the simulator
will establish communication and turn on.
5. To turn o the simulator, simply
close the UNI software.

Adding a Serial Number to the Profile
1. Select the desired profile.
2. Click the "+" button to the right
of the serial number.
3. A "New Serial Number" pop up will appear.
Type in the numerical serial number
of the simulator and click "Set!".
4.Click the 'Start' button to initialize the simulator.
NOTE: After clicking 'Start', UNI and
the simulator will be established.
A pop up will appear, stating the simulator is
establishing communication. Once the gray bar
loads completely blue, the simulator will turn on.
New products sent with their control laptop/tablet
will have the serial number preset at factory. Should it
be necessary to add a serial number, do the following:

HAL will initialize to a healthy state. Please read through the following
sections to adjust his parameters to the desired vitals.
The simulator has an anatomically correct and
programmable airway to support intubation
(see recommended device sizes) and airway
complications such as tongue edema,
pharyngeal swelling, and laryngospasm.
To program an airway complication
in the UNI software:
1. On the left-hand side of the UNI
software, locate the 'Airway' section.
2. Select an airway complication.
3. A pop up will appear to allow you to
turn 'On' the airway complication.
4.Once you select 'On', the status of the
airway complication will update.
NOTE: You may turn on all airway
complications to make intubation dicult.

4.2 BREATHING
Chest Rise
HAL's chest rise for either side can be independently controlled. To enable or disable
a particular side of HAL's chest, do the following in the UNI software:
1. Locate the 'Breathing' section on the
left-hand side of the UNI software.
2. Under the 'Breathing' section, locate
'Chest Rise' with two options directly
below: 'Right' and 'Left'. Right and left
refer to HAL's anatomical right and left.
3. To enable or disable a particular side of
HAL's chest, select either 'Right' or 'Left'.
A pop up will appear with the choice to
select 'On', 'O', or 'Pneumothorax'.
NOTE: 'On' will enable chest rise, 'O' will
disable chest rise, and 'Pneumothorax' will
disable the chest rise. When pneumothorax
is selected, a note will be added to the
UNI log. Once the needle decompression
is performed, the facilitator will have to
enable the chest rise manually in UNI.
Intubation
The simulator has an anatomically correct airway to
support intubation (see recommended device sizes).
It is recommended to set the respiratory rate to
zero before intubation. Please see the following
section for instructions on how to do this.

Pneumothorax
HAL has bilateral needle decompression sites that
are located between the second and third intercostal
spaces. There is a latex tubing inside HAL's ribcage
that builds up pressure once the pneumothorax
feature is activated in the UNI software. Once the
pneumothorax is treated by performing a needle
decompression, a slight pleural pop may be audible.
To set HAL up for needle decompression:
1. In the UNI software under the 'Breathing'
section, locate 'Chest Rise'.
2. Select 'Right' and/or 'Left' side of the chest and
click the 'Pneumothorax' option. This will disable
chest rise on the selected side of the chest.
NOTE: When pneumothorax is selected, a note
will be added to the UNI log. Once the needle
decompression is performed, the facilitator will
have to enable the chest rise manually in UNI.
3. After selecting the 'Pneumothorax' option
for HAL's chest rise, this will pressurize a
tubing located between the second and third
intercostal space. Use an appropriately sized
needle to decompress the air built up.
NOTE: Use a smaller sized needle to preserve
the appearance of the chest skin. Once
the needle decompression is performed,
a slight pleural pop may be audible.
4. After the needle decompression has been
performed, in the UNI software, go back to the
'Chest Rise' section and turn 'On' chest rise.
NOTE: After the pneumothorax tubing has
been punctured, it will need to be replaced.

Replacing Pneumothorax Tubing
After performing a needle decompression procedure
on HAL, the pressurized tubing that released the air
when punctured needs to be repaired or replaced.
WARNING: The pneumothorax tubing contains latex. Please be aware that people with a
latex allergy should not come into direct contact with the pneumothorax tubing.
To repair or replace the pneumothorax tubing:
1. With the simulator turned o,
gently peel o the chest skin.
2. With the chest skin o, gently
remove the ribcage.
NOTE: Only remove the ribcage. Do NOT touch or
move the lung bags inside the simulator. Doing so
will aect the lung compliance system. If the lung
compliance system is aected, it may have to be
returned to Gaumard repairs to be recalibrated.
3. On the underside of the ribcage, locate
the punctured pneumothorax tubing,
disconnect, and save the black o-ring.
NOTE: It is possible to try to get more than one
use out of a pneumothorax tube. Superglue
may be applied to the puncture hole to seal it,
but this is not gauranteed. The tubing needs to
be able to withstand pressurization so that the
pleural pop may be heard when punctured.
4.Replace and reconnect a new
pneumothorax tubing.
5. Re-assemble HAL's chest in reverse order
of the steps taken to replace the tubing.

Artificial Ventilation
It is possible to perform artificial ventilations with a
Bag Valve Mask (BVM) on HAL. Before incorporating
this feature into a simulation session, it is
recommended to calibrate HAL's artificial ventilations.
To perform the artificial ventilation calibration:
1. Within the UNI software, click the blue
gear icon in the upper right-hand corner
and then click 'Setup' and 'Calibration'.
2. On the 'Calibration Wizard', select
'Artificial Ventilation', and click 'Next'.

3. On the next page, select the [Never
Calaibrated] option and click 'Next'.
4.On the next page, click 'Start' to
begin the calibration process.
