GETTING STARTED
POWER
After safely connecting the supplied PSU first to the
keyboard and then to the mains power, press the
POWER button (2) to turn on the instrument. The
LED display (11) will light up. Pressing the power
button again will turn off the keyboard.
VOLUME ADJUSTMENT
Control the master volume by pressing the MASTER
VOL +/- buttons (3). The LED display (11) shows
the volume bar (M) to indicate the volume level.
Pressing the +/- buttons simultaneously will reset to
the default volume level.
The rhythm volume can also be adjusted, using the
RHYTHM VOLUME +/- buttons (4). The LED display
(11) shows “RhyVol” and the current level from
“000” to “007”.
WARNING! To prevent damage to your hearing,
speakers, and other audio equipment, reduce the
volume and have the power off before connecting
to any other equipment.
DEMO SONGS
The MK-5000 has 40 in-built demo songs. Press the
DEMO SONG button (12) to play each demo song
in sequence. The SONG indicator (C) will show
on the LED display. Press the START/STOP button
(28) or the DEMO SONG button again to control
playback. The display will indicate the name and
song number of the demo song being played.
When playing demo songs, use the +/- buttons
on the number keypad (27) to move to the next or
previous song, or enter a 3-digit number from 000
to 039 to select the songs as required.
TIMBRE SELECTION
Press the TIMBRE button (23) followed by the
required timbre number on the number keypad to
select from 345 different timbres, numbered 000 to
344. The default tone will be “000 Acoustic Grand
Piano” (“AcoP” on the display). Use the +/- controls
or enter a 3-digit number on the number keypad
(27) to scroll through/select the different sounds.
When using other functions, press the TIMBRE
button (23) to return to/enable to the timbre select
function.
CHORD TIMBRES
The MK-5000 has five chord timbres, accessed
by pressing the CHORD TIMBRE button (33)
repeatedly to cycle through the options.
The display will show “ChordTone” and the timbre
number from “000” to “004”.
CHORD MAT
Embellish your performances by pressing any
of the six CHORD MAT buttons (9) when playing
to add different rhythm phrases. Different
combinations of CHORD MAT buttons can be
pressed if desired.
RHYTHM SELECTION
Press the RHYTHM button (25) followed by the
required rhythm number on the number keypad to
select from 128 different rhythms, numbered 000 to
127. The default rhythm will be “000 16 Beat Pop”.
Use the +/- controls on the number keypad (27) to
scroll through the different beats. Use the START/
STOP button (28) to control playback. When using
other functions, press the RHYTHM button (25) to
return to/enable to the rhythm select function.
ADJUSTING THE RHYTHM VOLUME
Control the rhythm volume using the RHYTHM VOL
+ and RHYTHM VOL - buttons (4). The numeric
display shows the level from “000” to “007” and
the text display shows “RhyVol”. Pressing both
the RHYTHM VOL + and RHYTHM VOL - buttons
together will reset to the default level.
FILL-IN
Pressing the FILL-IN button (30) will momentarily
change the rhythm patters, to add variety to your
performances. Fills can be added at any time
during rhythm or auto-accompaniment playback.
RHYTHM SHIFT
Pressing the RHYTHM SHIFT button (26) will
add variations to the performance by playing an
alternative version of the selected rhythm. Press the
RHYTHM SHIFT button again to return to the main
menu.
INTRO/ENDING
This button allows you to insert an intro section at
the start of a rhythm or add an ending section at
the end of your performance. Press the INTRO/
ENDING button (31) before starting the rhythm to
add the intro, and again during playback to add the
ending section and then stop the rhythm.
TEMPO
Use the TEMPO +/- buttons (6) to increase or
decrease the rhythm speed. The tempo range is 30-
240BPM The default tempo will be 120BPM.

Pressing and holding either tempo +/- buttons will
adjust the tempo quickly. Pressing both tempo
+/- buttons simultaneously will reset to the default
120BPM value.
METRONOME
The MK-5000 has an in-built metronome feature
that can be started and stopped by pressing the
METRONOME button (32).
The number of beats per measure can be set from
1-4. The first time the METRONOME button is
pressed the metronome sound will play one beat
per measure and the display will show “001”. Press
the METRONOME button again to stop playback,
the display will show “OFF”. The second time the
METRONOME button is pressed the metronome
sound will play two beats per measure and the
display will show “002”. This sequence continues up
to 8 beats per measure, then cycles back to 1 beat
per measure.
Use the TEMPO +/- buttons (6) to adjust the tempo
of the metronome as required. The tempo range is
30-240BPM.
TOUCH RESPONSE
By default, the MK-5000 has touch response
enabled so that louder notes are played when the
keys are pressed harder and vice versa. Use the
TOUCH button (17) to turn off/on this feature. The
display will show either “TouchOff” or “TouchOn” as
appropriate.
PITCH BEND
Using the PITCH BEND WHEEL (39) can add
smooth changes to notes being played on the
keyboard. The pitch is increased by moving the
wheel up and decreased by moving it down. The
wheel returns to its centre position when released.
DUAL
This feature allows you to layer two timbre sounds
together to create a fuller sound. Press the DUAL
button (18) and the display will show “DoubleOn”.
The default timbre combination is “000 Acoustic
Grand Piano” and “048 String Ensemble”.
When in dual mode, select other combinations by
pressing the TIMBRE button (23) followed by the
number keypad (27) to select the first timbre. Then
press the TIMBRE 2 button (24) followed by the
number keypad (27) to select the second timbre.
To exit dual mode, press the DUAL button (18)
again.
SPLIT
This feature allows you to use the keyboard to play
two separate instruments at the same time, with
the left-hand 24 keys playing one timbre and the
remaining keys playing another.
Before pressing the SPLIT button (21) select a
timbre in the usual way, using the TIMBRE button
(23) and the number keypad (27). This sound will
be used for the left-hand 24 keys of the keyboard.
Next, press the SPLIT button (21) to activate this
function. The “SPLIT” indicator (H) will be displayed.
The keyboard is now divided into two sections and
using the TIMBRE button (23) and number keypad
(27) again will select the sound for the right-hand
side of the keyboard.
The pitch of the left-hand notes is raised so that the
first note changes from C2 to C4, to match the pitch
of the right-hand side of the keyboard. To exit this
mode, press the split BUTTON (21) again.
Please note: The split function cannot be used
in conjunction with the single or fingered chord
modes.
RHYTHM & ACCOMPANIMENT SYNCHRO START
The MK-5000 can be set to begin playing a rhythm
at the same time as the accompaniment begins. To
do this, firstly ensure that either single or fingered
chord mode is selected. Then, select the desired
rhythm and press the SYNC button (29) to prepare
for synchro start. The SYNC indicator (N) will show
on the display. Now when you start playing the
keyboard keys, the rhythm will begin to play.
Use the START/STOP button (28) to control the
rhythm playback.
SUSTAIN
Note sustain can be added by pressing the
SUSTAIN button (19). The SUSTAIN indicator (F) will
be shown on the display when this effect is turned
on. Pressing the SUSTAIN button again will turn off
the effect and display indicator.
VIBRATO
Use the VIBRATO +/- buttons (5) to add a vibrato
effect to the notes being played. The range is from
000 to 007. As the vibrato level is adjusted, the
display (U) will show “Vibrat” and the current level.
Pressing the VIBRATO +/- buttons simultaneously
resets the vibrato effect back to 000.

SINGLE KEY AUTO BASS CHORD
Pressing the SINGLE button (34) allows you to
play a single key chord in the “chord zone” of
the keyboard (left-hand 19 keys) as displayed in
the table below. The CHORD indicator (K) will be
shown on the display. The major chords are marked
above the keys. Minor chords can be played by
pressing the major key and any black key to its
left. Seventh chords can be played by pressing
the major key and any white key to its left. Minor
seventh chords can be played by pressing the
major key and both any white key and any black
key to its left. Please see the example fingering in
the diagram below:
Press the SINGLE button (34) again to return to
normal keyboard operation. The CHORD indicator
(K) will go out.

FINGERED CHORD BASS CHORD
Pressing the FINGERED CHORD button (25) allows
you to play a fingered chord in the “chord zone”
of the keyboard (left-hand 19 keys) as displayed
in the table below. The CHORD indicator (K) will
be shown on the display. The fingering for C-root
chords is shown below:
Press the FINGERED button (25) again to return to
normal keyboard operation. The CHORD indicator
(K) will go out.

TRANSPOSE
This function allows you to shift the overall key of
the keyboard in steps of one semitone. The range is
+/- 6 semitones. Press the TRANSPOSE +/- buttons
(8) to increase or decrease by one semitone as
required. The display will show “Trans” and the
value range from -06 to 06. Pressing and holding
both TRANSPOSE +/- buttons down simultaneously
will return the MK-5000 to normal pitch.
PERCUSSION KEYS
The MK-5000 has 8 percussion sounds, playable
on the dedicated percussion buttons (38), and 61
keyboard key percussion sounds as indicated by
the symbols above the keys; accessed by pressing
the
KEYBOARD PERCUSSION button (20). In this mode
the display (U) will temporarily show “Perc”. Pressing
the KEYBOARD PERCUSSION button again will
revert to normal keyboard operation. The display
will briefly show “OFF”.
REGISTRATION MEMORY
This function allows you to store up to three sets of
timbre/rhythm/tempo information by pressing and
holding the MEMORY button plus one of the three
preset buttons (10).
Use the three preset buttons to recall the stored
sounds.
Please note: the memory settings are not retained
when the keyboard is powered off.
RHYTHM PROGRAMMING
The MK-5000 allows you to create custom
rhythms by programming percussion sounds.
Press the PROG button (36) and the keyboard
will automatically be set to percussion mode. The
“PROG” indicator (J) will be displayed. Both the
drum sounds from the percussion buttons and
percussion sounds from the keyboard keys can
be programmed up to a maximum of 32 beats.
Recording stops automatically if 32 beats are
reached, and the display will show “FULL”.
When you have finished programming your rhythm,
press the NULL PLAY button (37) to play back your
rhythm in a loop. The “REPLAY” indicator (I) will
show on the display. Use the TEMPO +/- buttons
(6) to increase or decrease the rhythm speed as
required. Press the NULL PLAY button again to stop
playback. Press the PROG button again or press the
START/STOP button (28) to clear the programmed
rhythm from the keyboard’s memory. The “PROG”
indicator will go out.
Please note: Recording programmed rhythms will
wipe any songs previously stored using the record
function.
RECORDING & PLAYBACK
To record your playing press the REC button (15)
to enable the recording function. The “RECORD”
indicator (G) will be displayed. Begin playing to
record your performance and press the [REC]
button again to stop recording. Performances of
up to 470 notes can be recorded. Recording stops
automatically if 470 notes are reached, and the
display (U) shows “FULL”.
Press the PLAY button (16) to playback the
recorded melody. The “REPLAY” indicator (I) will be
displayed and the TEMPO +/- buttons (6) can be
used to speed up or slow down the performance as
required. When playback is finished, the “REPLAY”
indicator will go out. Press the PLAY button to listen
to the recording again or press either the REC
button (15) or START/STOP button (28) to clear
the recording from the keyboard’s memory. The
“RECORD” indicator (G) will go out.
Please note: Recording songs will wipe any rhythms
previously stored using the rhythm programming
function.
ONE-KEY PLAY
This training feature is designed to help you
practice your timing, using the notes of the in-built
songs.
Press the ONE KEY button (13) to enable this
training function. The “SONG” indicator (C) and the
“ONEKEY” indicator (D) will be displayed, along
with the current song name and number. The
system plays the introduction and waits for you to
press any key on the keyboard to begin.
Press the +/- buttons on the number keypad (27)
to scroll through the different songs to be learnt
or enter a three-digit number (from 000 to 039) to
directly select a song.
As it is designed to aid timing, during this training
mode the melody of a song can be played by
pressing ANY single key in accordance with the
rhythm. Simply play a key in time with the music
and playback will continue.

After finishing the song, the system will wait for you
to press any key again to re-start the song or press
the ONE KEY button (13) again to exit this training
function.
GUIDE
This training feature plays the accompaniment for
the in-built songs automatically and allows you to
play the melody.
Press the GUIDE button (14) to enable this training
function. The “SONG” indicator (C) and the “GUIDE”
indicator (F) will be displayed, along with the
current song name and number. The system plays
the introduction and waits for you to press any key
on the keyboard to begin.
Press the +/- buttons on the number keypad (27)
to scroll through the different songs to be learnt
or enter a three-digit number (from 000 to 039) to
directly select a song.
When you press any key on the keyboard to begin,
it begins to play the melody and accompaniment.
The display keyboard (V) will indicate the correct
key to play and the fingering guides (Q, S) show the
correct finger(s) to play the notes.
Pressing a key will cause the system to stop playing
the melody so you can play it yourself, but the
accompaniment continues. If there are no keys
played in 3 seconds, the system will begin playing
the melody itself, until a key is pressed again.
The TEMPO buttons (5) can be used to speed up or
slow down the song as required.
After finishing the song, the system will pause
and then play the song again. To exit this training
function press the GUIDE button (14) again to exit
this training function.
