Gear4music Brooklyn DIY Guitar Kit User manual

Brooklyn DIY Guitar Kit
Thank you for purchasing this DIY Guitar Kit. The following instructions specify how
to assemble your guitar. There are a variety of finishes that can be applied to the
guitar, and it is up to you to choose the style that best suits you. Information on how
to apply the finishes are readily available on the internet. We recommend a little
research to find your favoured finishing method.
All of our headstocks are provided ‘uncut’. This gives you the opportunity to be
creative and design your own, or copy one of the popular styles. For this, we
recommend marking the shape out with a pencil, cutting the design with a Coping
Saw or Jigsaw, and then finishing off with sandpaper. We have not supplied full
instructions for this, as the process will depend on your individual design. Again, an
internet search engine search will provide far more relevant instructions than we
would be able to provide.
The guitar will need to be fully ‘set-up’ after construction. This is the process to make
the guitar fully playable. Numerous video guides can be found online, and we
recommend searching on popular video streaming sites. Alternatively, the guitar can
be professionally set up by your local professional Luthier.
Before you start you will need to make sure you have the following tools to hand:
•Soldering Iron
•Cross Head Screwdriver –Medium Head
•Cross Head Screwdriver –Small Head
•Battery Powered Screwdriver (not essential but advised)
•Tape Measure or Ruler
Enjoy building your Guitar!

2 x 26mm
4 x 45m
Step 1
Solder the three connected wires on the Wire Set (3) to the middle arm of the Tone
Selector (4). Take the first of the remaining loose wires from the Wire set (3) and
solder it to the left hand arm on the Tone Selector (4). Repeat this process with the
last remaining wire on the left hand arm.
Step 2
Put the pickups (5 and 6) in place on the front of the body (1), and feed the wires
through the hole in the pickup cavity. The screws on the pickups should face towards
the neck on the Neck Pickup (5), and towards the bridge on the Bridge Pickup (6).
The cables should be threaded through to the control cavity on the back as pictured.
Screw the pickups in place using the 8 x 18mm screws.
Step 3
The uncovered wire from the Neck Pickup (5) should be soldered on to the back of
the first Volume Pot (The pot without the transistor), and the covered wire should be
soldered to the middle arm on the Pot. This should be repeated with the Bridge
Pickup (6) and the second volume pot. The Tone Selector (4) should then be placed
through the first hole in the Body (1). The first Volume Pot should be placed through
the second hole, and the first Tone Pot through the holes below. This should be
repeated with the second set, and then the Jack Input should be fed through the
final hole (as pictured).
Step 4
Screw the nuts in place on the Volume and Tone Pots and the Jack Input to keep
them in place. Place the Tone Selector Plate (7) over the top of the Tone Selector (4)
and then screw the nut and washer on top. Screw the Scratch Plate (11) in place
using 5 of the 13mm screws. At this point the Bridge Pins (17) and Tailpiece Pins (18)
should be put in place (as pictured). The earth wire (black) should be threaded
through the hole from the body cavity to the tailpiece hole, and soldered to the first
Bridge Pin (18)
Step 5
Insert the machine heads (13) in to the holes in the Headstock (2). Place the washer
(19) on top, and then screw in the Ferrules (20). The neck should then be turned
over and the 6 x 10mm screws should be screwed in to the pilot holes securing the
machine heads in place. Make sure that the screw hole in the Machine Heads are
facing downwards.
Step 6
Put the Body (1) and Neck (2) together. Place the Neck Plate (12) with the rubber
Pad on the back of the Body (1) in line with the pilot holes, and attach with the 4 x
45mm screw. Place the Truss Rod Cover (14) in place, matching the holes with the
pilot holes, and screw in using the 3 x 14mm screws.
Attach the Strap Buttons (21) with their rubber washers to the pilot holes on the
base and arm of the body (1) using the 2 x 26mm screws. Screw the Back Plate (8) in
place using the remaining 13mm screws.
Step 7
Place the Bridge (10) on the Bridge Pins (18), with the screw heads facing the neck.
Place the Tailpiece (9) on the Tailpiece Pins (17). String the guitar using the strings
(16), threading them through the tailpiece (9).
Congratulations, you have now completed the construction of your guitar.
