DONT OVERLOAD THE
GENERATOR
Overload ng a generator n excess of ts rated wattage
capac ty can result n damage to generator and to
connected electr cal dev ces. Observe the follow ng, to
prevent overload ng the un t:
Add up the total wattage of all electr cal dev ces to
be connected at one t me. Th s total should NOT be
greater than the generators wattage capac ty.
The rated wattage of l ghts can be taken from l ght
bulbs. The rated wattage of tools, appl ances and
motors can usually be found on a data plate or decal
aff xed to the dev ce.
If the appl ance, tool or motor does not g ve wattage,
mult ply Volts t mes ampere rat ng to determ ne watts
(volts x amps = watts).
Some electr c motors, such as nduct on types,
requ re about three t mes more watts of power for
start ng than for runn ng. Th s surge of power lasts
for only a few seconds when start ng such motors.
Be sure you allow for th s h gh start ng wattage when
select ng electr cal dev ces to connect to your
generator. F rst f gure the watts needed to start the
largest motor. Add to that f gure the runn ng watts of
all other connected loads.
Items n F gure 9 below are prov ded to help you to
determ ne how many tems the generator can
operate at one t me.
