USING THE ELCOSEAL lay-down equipment
Operaon:
Sequence of Basic Job Steps Hazards Controls/Recommended Safe Work
Procedure
1
Ensure all liing equipment is in sound
order and the chains are not twisted,
are of equal length and spacing on the
spreader beam.
Uneven liing of the roll. Ensure chains are free and equal.
2Shackle spreader bar assembly onto
machine.
Incorrectly aached to plant/
equipment. Check shackles before liing.
3 Grease pole with WD40 or similar. Careful handling of greasy pole. Personnel to wear gloves
with extra grip.
4Insert Pole manually into central core
of ELCOSEAL® roll.
Don’t look down core from other
end. Don’t use machinery to force
pole through core.
Keep away unl pole protrudes.
5
Posion spreader beam over, or
preferably grounded alongside the roll
to be lied.
Wind or machine movement causing
the suspended frame to swing
around uncontrollably.
If roll needs to be suspended, then
ensure stability using guide ropes.
6Aach end collars onto pole and
ghten locking nuts.
Not adequately ghtening locking
nuts. Check nuts.
7
Check chain aachment posion
(eyelet) on frame to ensure chains
hang vercally when roll is suspended.
Chains angle outward (at top of
chain) tending to pull collars o the
end of the pole.
Check each roll as the core widths
(and hence posion of the collar)
may vary slightly from roll to roll.
8 Raise machine arm.
Liing too fast/tangle chains Raise in a control manner with no
personnel to go under lied roll.
Uncontrolled dispensing of
ELCOSEAL®.
Do not cut tape (around roll
diameter) and start dispensing unl
roll is in posion and grounded or in
a stable posion over level.
9Move roll into start posion. Roll/Frame jerking and swinging –
knocking someone over.
Keep personnel clear or use guide
ropes so personnel can minimise roll
swinging without standing beneath
or near the suspended roll.
10 Place roll in posion. Lowering onto personnel. Roll must be posioned and
grounded.
11
Unroll at no faster than walking pace
by moving the plant in the required
direcon. Avoid taking machinery over
previously deployed GCL.
Sliding of dispensed material across
the subgrade and ‘up-ending’
personnel following behind on
dispensed material.
Maintain exclusion zone.
Do not aempt to pull ELCOSEAL®
o the roll by hand as it is very
heavy.
Use equipment where possible.
12
Once roll is empty, remove from pole
from core by loosening collar. Pole
can remain in situ.
Removing pole with machine. Manual operaon only.
