3INSTALLATION
Th rain gaug is suppli d alr ady calibrat d and th calibration valu (r solution) is
shown on th instrum nt lab l.
Th instrum nt must b install d in an op n ar a, away from buildings, tr s, tc.,
nsuring th spac ov r it is fr from all obj cts which could obstruct rain m asur -
m nts, and in an asily acc ssibl position for th filt r to b cl an d p riodically.
Avoid installation in ar as xpos d to gusts of wind, turbul nc (for xampl th top
of a hill) as th s may distort th m asur m nts.
Th rain gaug can b r qu st d in th v rsion for ground installation or for installa-
tion rais d abov th ground.
For ground installation, thr adjustabl support f t, so that th instrum nt can b
l v ll d corr ctly, and hol s for fixing to th floor hav b n provid d.
For installation rais d abov th ground, ins rt th flang at th bas of th instru-
m nt in th support mast. At th opposit nd, th mast may nd with ith r a flang
so that it can b fix d to th floor, or a tip to b driv n into th ground. Th various
fast ning syst ms can b s n in th figur s 3.7, 3.8 and 3.9.
For th tipping d vic to function corr ctly and so for th m asur m nt to b corr ct,
it is important that th instrum nt is plac d p rf ctly l v ll d. Th bas of th rain
gaug is fitt d with a bubbl l v l.
For installation, unscr w th thr scr ws at th bas of th cylind r that supports th
wat r coll ctor con .
Attention: a h ating r sistor is fitt d around th con in th h at d v rsion. To dis-
conn ct th con h at r, unplug th conn ctor on th upp r sid of th t rminal block
prot ction cov r (s fig.3.1).
3.1 ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
For th v rsion without h ating us a 2-wir cabl with 0.5 mm2 minimum wir s s c-
tion, for th v rsion with h ating us a 4-wir cabl with 2.5 mm2 minimum wir s s c-
tion.
Us a shi ld d cabl ov r long distanc s. Slid th cabl through th cabl gland and
fast n it with th cabl fast n r locat d n ar th ntry hol at th bas of th rain
gaug .
Unscr w th t rminal block prot ction cov r and p rform th conn ctions as shown in
th following figur s.
Connection of heating:
Th h at d v rsion r quir s pow r (12 Vdc or 24 Vdc d p nding on th v rsion sup-
pli d) for th r sistors: p rform th conn ction as indicat d at point 2 of fig. 3.1.
If th conn ctions ar s t corr ctly, th LED plac d n ar th t rminals will b lit up.
Connection of contact output:
Th rain gaug contact output, indicat d at point 1 in th figur 3.1, must be con-
nected to the input of the HD2013-DB rain gauge data logger (pl as s th
d tails in th manual of th data logg r) or to a pulse counter or to a data logger.
To us th contact output in th v rsions with analog or SDI-12 output option, s t th
