Operationmethod
IfyouwanttouseSTEREOECHOrightaway,followthe
instructionsinthischapter.However,westronglyrecommend
thatyoureadtherestofthemanualimmediatelytofully
understandandmasterthecapabilitiesofthissophisticated
signalprocessor.

1.Makesurethattheamplifierorotherequipmentyouare
connectingtoisturnedoffbeforeconnectingtheSTEREO
ECHO.
Note:UsetherecommendedACadapter.Usealkaline
batteries,theoperatingtimeisapproximately2hours.

2.ConnecttheSTEREOECHO'sOUTjackstoastereo
amplifier,twochannelsofamixer,ortwoguitaramplifiers,
respectively,usingcables.Ifyouneedmonooutputs,connect
theLEFTOUT(MONO)outputjacktoyoursoundsystem.In
thiscase,usetheOUTPUTcontrollertoadjusttheoutput
volumeoftheecho.

3.SetallcontrollersallthewaytotheleftandsetthePAN
switchinthecenter.

4.ConnectyourinstrumenttotheLEFTIN(MONO)jack.If
youareusingaGENERATOR,connecttheGENERATOR
outputtotheLEFTIN(MONO)monoinput.Ifyouareusinga
stereooutputdevicesuchasaSTEREOCHORUS,connectit
tobothINPUTS.
5.SincetheSTEREOECHOhasanamplificationlevelof1,the
inputsignallevelisthesameastheoutputlevel,sosetthe
volumeofthesoundsystemtothesamelevelaswhenthe
STEREOECHOisnotused.
6.YouarenowreadytouseSTEREOECHO.Adjustthe
PREAMPLEVELsothattheredLEDturnsonmomentarily
whentheguitarisplayedhard.

FunctionDescription
PREAMPLEVEL(INPUTGAIN)
AdjuststheinternalgainoftheSTEREOECHOtothe
incomingaudiosignallevel.Settingthistothebestposition
minimizesbothdistortionandnoise.Theoutputleveldoesnot
changeatanyposition.
TheCLIPLEDindicatesthelevelofthesignalpassingthrough
theinternalcircuitry.TheredLEDindicatesthatthelevelis
approachingthedistortionpointandshouldnotbelittoo
often.IftheredLEDisoftenlit,turndownthePREAMP
LEVELby1memory.TheyellowLEDindicatesthebestsignal
levelwiththeleastnoise.IftheyellowLEDdoesnotlightupat
all,increasethePREAMPLEVELby1memory.Iftheyellow
LEDisnotlitatall,the0positionisbestfornormalline-level
signals.Ifyouareconnectingaguitardirectly,youmayneed
tosetthePREAMPLEVELtothe+6position.Ifyouare
connectingagenerator,setthePREAMPLEVELtothe-6
position.Inallcases,watchtheLEDsandswitchtofindthe
bestoperatingpoint.
DELAY
TheFEEDBACKcontrollerdeterminesthenumberofecho
repeats.Thelowestsettingproducesasingle,non-repeating
echo,withthenumberofrepetitionsincreasingwithclockwise
movement.
Feedbackbeginsonthelongdelayside(fullrightside),anda
lighthigh-frequencyfilter,attenuatedby-6dB/octaveabove
3.5kHz,isinsertedintothefeedbackcircuittoproducea
naturalsoundingecho,similartoaconcerthallortapeecho.
FEEDBACK
SettingtheFEEDBACKcontrollerto󲰄(maximum)allowsthe
feedbacktocontinueindefinitely.
CAUTION:Playingsoundwiththeinfiniterepeatsettingmay
damageyourspeakersandears.Insuchacase,movingthe
controllerbackslightlytotheleftwillproduceadelaythat
repeatsmanytimeswithoutthefearthattheechowillrunout
ofcontrol.
ECHOTIME
TheECHOTIMEcontrollercontrolsbothleftandrightdelay
timessimultaneouslyandisdesignedtomaintainthecorrect
stereoimageatanysettingposition.Thedelayrangesfrom
75to300millisecondsontheleftandfrom125to500
millisecondsontheright,withavariablefilterbuiltintothe
circuittoprovidethebestfrequencyresponsenomatter
whatdelaytimeisset.Note:ThereasontheLdelaytimeis
slightlylongerthanhalftheRdelaytimeistomakeroomin
themixforthedirectsignalbeforetheechoreturns,making
thedirect/echodistinctionclearerandcleanersounding.

EchoTimeLED
TheECHOTIMELEDallowsyoutovisuallycheckthedelay
time,andthelitperiodcorrespondstothesettingofthelong
side(Rside)oftheconstructionecho.
OutputMix(PAN)
ThePANswitchallowsyoutoselectoneofthethreepreset
stereooutputformats.Intheupperposition,thestereo
artificialechosignalismixedwiththemonolocalizeddirect
signal.Inthemiddleposition,boththeechoanddirectsignals
arelocalizedinstereo.Inthebottomposition,thedirectsignal
islocalizedto9o'clockandtheechosignalto3o'clockinthe
mixer'spanpot.TheECHOVOLUMEcontrollercanbeused
toindependentlycontroltheleftandrightechovolumefor
thedirectsignal.
Monoinandmonooutoperation
TouseSTEREOECHOinmono,usetheINPUTjacklabeled
LEFTIN(MONO)andtheOUTPUTlabeledLEFTOUT(MONO)
onthepanel.ThePANswitchmustbesettothetopor
middleposition.ECHOTIME(125to500milliseconds)during
thismonomodeoperation.
OUTPUT(ON/OFFswitch)
TheON/OFFFOOTSWITCHcanbeusedtobypassthe
STEREOECHOeffect.TheSTEREOECHOmustbepowered
onevenwhenbypassed,sincetheaudiosignalstillpasses
throughthenoisebuffercircuit.
Application
IfyousettheDAYLAYtoamediumlength(75/125to
125/200milliseconds),theVOLUMEtonormalvolume,and
theFEEDBACKtozero,youcansimulatea"slapbackecho,"
whichisidealforvocalsordeeplyde-stressedguitars.The
slapbackeffectcanbeusedtocreatenever-before-heard
effects,especiallywhenplayingarmingtechniquesorsynth
bends.
Ifthemixedsoundistoothin,addingalittleKukocanmakeit
sounddeeper,andtheinstrumentswillsoundlouder.In
general,shorterdelaysaremostsuitableforpercussive
sounds,whilelongerdelaysaremoresuitableforvocalsor
instrumentalpartsplayedwithreggards.

Ifanyofthefollowingoccurs,immediatelyturnoffthepowerandunplugthe
ACadapterfromthepoweroutlet:
