1.1 Hazard statements
The symbols and hazard statements below may
appear in Grundfos installation and operating
instructions, safety instructions and service
instructions.
DANGER
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, will result in death or serious
personal injury.
WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, could result in death or
serious personal injury.
CAUTION
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, could result in minor or
moderate personal injury.
The hazard statements are structured in the following

1.2 Notes
The symbols and notes below may appear in
Grundfos installation and operating instructions,
safety instructions and service instructions.
Observe these instructions for explosion-
proof products.
A blue or grey circle with a white graphical
symbol indicates that an action must be
taken.
A red or grey circle with a diagonal bar,
possibly with a black graphical symbol,
indicates that an action must not be taken
or must be stopped.
If these instructions are not observed, it
may result in malfunction or damage to the
equipment.

3. Product introduction
3.1 Intended use
CIM 550 Ethernet GiC enables data transmission
between the Grundfos iSOLUTION cloud (GiC) and a
Grundfos host product with a CIM GENIbus interface
slot, or to a Modbus RTU slave device that is
supported by the Grundfos iSOLUTION cloud.
Which products are supported depends on the
Grundfos iSOLUTION cloud. Contact Grundfos for
information on the supported products.
Configuration is done via Grundfos GO using BLE
wireless communication.
For detailed mounting and retrofitting instructions of
the CIM module on pumps, refer to the installation
and operating instructions of the Grundfos host
product for guidance on individual pump types.

4. Installation

‐Locate the product at a minimum

body parts. Human tissue may be
heated by RF energy.
The enclosed label specific to your country must be
attached near the nameplate on the product in which
the CIM module is installed. The label must be visible
and easily accessible.
Check the Compliance Information sheet for your
country specific label.
4.1 Security
The CIM module provides a secure way of performing
data transmission to the cloud. It uses encryption and
mutual authentication based on X.509 certificates for
access authentication. The connected Grundfos host
products must be behind a firewall or connected to a
private network. If a firewall or private network is not
in place, the Grundfos host product may be subject to
a cybersecurity risk and becomes vulnerable to an
attack or compromise.
The CIM module acts as fieldbus master for the
GENIbus and Modbus RTU protocols. These
protocols use the underlying RS485 protocol
communication. As this protocol does not have any
built-in security, it is highly recommended to allow
only authorized persons physical access to the
installation and otherwise adhere to the initiatives
suggested in the local risk assessment if one has
been prepared.
4.1.1 CIM 550
For CIM 550 Ethernet GiC the firewall must accept
connections initialised by the Grundfos host product
to the internet only (outgoing connections).

instructions and operating conditions for

4.1.4 EMC statements for USA
This equipment has been tested and found to comply
with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to
part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed
to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a residential installation. This
equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio
frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. However, there
is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a
particular installation. If this equipment does cause
harmful interference to radio or television reception,
which can be determined by turning the equipment off
and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the
interference by one or more of the following
measures:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separation between the equipment
and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit
different from that to which the receiver is
connected.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV
technician for help.
4.1.5 Safety precautions for UK
The CIM module is not intended for use in
any home appliance, home automation,
home control system or consumer product
in the UK.
4.2 Ethernet cable connection
Use a RJ45 plug and an Ethernet cable.
For GiC communication, ensure that the
network is protected by a firewall.

4.3 RS-485 communication interface

Connect the cable screen under the earth clamp and
tighten the earth clamp.
A supported Modbus RTU slave device can be
connected to the connector of the RS-485 interface.
The Modbus RTU communication settings (baud rate,
parity bits, start/stop bits) have to be set on the cloud
side or via Grundfos GO.
Contact Grundfos to find out whether this
functionality is supported by your cloud
application, and which products can be
connected.
The RS-485 port must only be connected
to PELV circuits.
4.4 Configuration via Grundfos GO
CIM 550 has to be configured via Grundfos GO.
Functionalities like DHCP, IP address, Gateway, DNS
have to be configured. If required, the parameter for
the RS-485 Modbus RTU master interface has to be
configured (baud rate, parity bits, start/stop bits,
activation, address). The Initial Startup Wizard guides
you through the setup. DHCP is activated by default
to enable a direct communication to the GiC server.
4.5 Activating BLE

1. Briefly press the BLE pairing button for wireless
communication with Grundfos GO via BLE.
Grundfos GO must be installed on your mobile
phone.
2. Pair CIM 550 with the mobile phone.
4.6 Factory reset

Press the reset button for 5 seconds to start a factory
reset.
4.7 Local firmware update
The local firmware on the CIM module can be
updated via RS-485 port using the Grundfos
Selfprogrammer tool.

5. Operation
CIM 550 operates autonomously and has 3 status
LEDs:
• LED1: Ethernet communication to the cloud.
• LED2: communication between CIM 550 and the
Grundfos host product (GENIbus LED).
• LED3: status of RS-485

6. Data activity and link LEDs

connector.

7. Fault finding

‐Switch off the power supply before you
start any work on the product. Make
sure that the power supply cannot be
switched on accidentally.
7.1 Fault detection and access to GiC
If CIM 550 is fitted in a Grundfos host
product or a CIU 90x, and if the host
product is powered, you can detect faults
by observing the status LEDs.
For access to the GiC cloud, you might
need an additional contract with Grundfos.
Observe the manual of the Grundfos host
product for access to CIM 550.
7.1.1 Both LEDs remain off
Both LED1 and LED2 remain off when the power
supply is connected.
