1 safety regulations and notes
• If the PSU needs to be replaced, only use OEM PSU.
• Before you disconnect the power supply, the device must be shut down
(page 11)!
• Before starting installation or service work disconnect the device from
mains.
• Assembly, installation and servicing must be carried out by an authorised
electrician.
• Caution! Dangerous voltage! For a complete disconnection from the mains,
the PSU must be pulled out of the mains socket. Ensure that the PSU can be
pulled out without difficulties.
• Install the device
- in a dry, dust-free environment, in such a manner that it is protected from
moisture, fumes, splashing water and dampness
- where it is protected from direct exposure to sunlight
- on a vibration-free wall or floor construction
- not within the immediate vicinity of heat sources
• In case of the formation of condensation wait until the system is completely
dried.
• Ensure that the device is adequately ventilated.
• Do not cover the ventilation openings!
• Do not install the device in cabinets or recesses which are not ventilated.
• Do not place any vessels containing liquids on the device.
• Do not place anything on the device which could initiate fires (e.g. can-
dles).
• Avoid short circuits!
• No liability is accepted for damage caused by faulty connections or inap-
propriate handling of the device.
• The firmware contains components which are licensed as Open Source
software. This parts of software source code can be provided at cost price
on CD upon request. The licensee is granted a non-exclusive right of use for
the Open Source Software by the respective right holders used; the condi-
tions stipulated by the respective valid license terms apply. The license terms
of this license only apply to the components which are not listed as Open
Source software.
In relation to the licensor the regulations on liability and warranty in these
license terms apply for the whole software. The liability and warranty regu-
lations of the Open Source licenses only apply in relation to the respective
right holders.

• The device is intended for the playback/streaming of picture and sound
signals ("Materials"). The use must be taken place in conformance with ap-
plicable laws, license agreements or service agreements under which you
have obtained access to such Materials. Any other use is expressly prohib-
ited. It is Your responsibility to comply with, and you agree to be bound by,
all such applicable laws and agreements. Unauthorized copying, streaming
of copyrighted material, or providing copies of such material to others, may
infringe the rights of copyright owners and may also be a criminal offence
in some jurisdictions.
Prior permission from the copyright owners may be required for certain
public performances and certain commercial uses. You agree to indemnify
and hold harmless GSS Grundig Systems GmbH and its Licensors against
any breach by You of applicable copyright restrictions in connection with
your use of the device.
• Check the firmware versions of the device and update them if necessary.
The current firmware version can be found at "www.mygss.eu".
Take action to prevent static discharge when working on the device!
Electronic devices should never be disposed of in the household rubbish. In accordance
with directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and the European Council from
January 27, 2003 which addresses old electronic and electrical devices, such devices
must be disposed of at a designated collection facility. At the end of its service life,
please take your device to one of these public collection facilities for proper disposal.

With the Mediaplayer, video files, images (jpg or png) and PDF files stored on
the internal hard disk can be played back on schedule.
– Output via the HDMI interface (v2.0)
– Supported video formats:
"ts", "3g2", "mkv", "mp4", "mov", "mpeg", "m4v", "3gp"
– Playback of single files or playlists
– A loop playback or a "intermission" image (jpg or png) with intermission
music (mp3) can be selected at the end of playback until a new scheduled
playback starts.
You use the scheduler to configure the start time, the weekday(s) and the pe-
riod (date range).
—> A permanent Internet connection is required for time synchroniza-
tion with a time server. Without time synchronization, the time must
be reset after a power failure.

The configuration of the device is to be done via an HTML user interface via a
PC and a standard HTML browser connected to the configuration interface.
The media data for the media player is transferred to the internal hard disk
via the file manager (for small files - depending on the available RAM) or an
SFTP access (for large files).
They are output at the HDMI interface (v. 2.0).

– The device is meant exclusively for use in rooms with normal operating
conditions (temperature, humidity, radiation) such as air-conditioned server
rooms, offices and publicly accessible rooms with similar conditions.
• Attach four cage nuts 22 at the installation site.
We recommend the use of lateral slide rails/component carriers in order to
relieve the front panel.

• Screw the unit with the mounting screws 24 and the washer 23 to the four
cage nuts 22.

3.3 Conn eC t i n g t h e d eviCe
Power su PPly
• Connect the enclosed plug-in power supply unit (PSU) to the DC socket 4.
• Connect the power supply unit to a corresponding mains socket. Thereby
note the voltage specified on the PSU.
—> The device does not have a primary power switch and starts imme-
diately after the operating voltage is applied.
Before you disconnect the power supply, the device must be shut
down (page 11)!
For a complete disconnection from the mains, the power supply unit
must be pulled out of the mains socket. Ensure that the power supply
unit can be pulled out without difficulties.

• Connect the HDMI output 5 to the following device (e.g. TV set, encoder
etc.).

• Connect the configuration/LAN interface 6 to the LAN network.
You need to be connected to the Internet for time synchronization and
OpenVPN remote access.

4 Configuration
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is activated at the factory (Sys-
tem > Network menu; page 21). If a DHCP server is active in your network, an
IP address is assigned to the device and shown in the display.
e.g.:
—> The sign indicates that the IP address has been assigned by the
DHCP server.
—> If no DHCP server is active, you can make the network settings using
the control buttons.
Further configuration of the device is carried out via the web interface (HTML
user interface) with a PC and a standard HTML browser (page 12).
4.1 Co n t ro l b u t to n s
Using the control buttons, you can change the network settings, restart or shut
down the unit, and reset the password.
—> If you shut down the device, a restart is only possible by briefly inter-
rupting the power supply to the device.

• Press OK to select a menu item for the configu-
ration and confirm your entries.
• Use the buttons 3 (Up) 4 (Dn) to set the corre-
sponding values.

Connect a PC to the LAN network.
—> The PC and the device must be in the same network/IP address
range! Cookies must be accepted and JavaScript must be activated.
Use the latest browser versions.
• Start the browser, enter the IP address of the device (see display) and start
the establishment of the connection.
• Enter user admin and your Password and click on button "Login".
The default password is geheim.
—> The Scheduler window is displayed.
—> Changes in the menus are only saved when you click the but-
ton!
—> For further logins observe the menus System > Network and System
> OpenVPN!

With the Mediaplayer, video files, images and PDF files stored on the internal
hard disk can be played back on schedule. A directory can also be selected
for a "slide show" of images. All images contained in this directory will then
be played back.
You use the scheduler to configure the start time, the weekday(s) and the pe-
riod (date range).
—> A permanent Internet connection is required for time synchroniza-
tion with a time server. Without time synchronization, the time must
be reset after a power failure (page 23).

the button . The selected files are displayed above the selection field
and can be removed from the list using the corresponding buttons .

—> Please note that only content in the mediafiles directory can be se-
lected. The selection of contents in subdirectories is not possible.
—> For images (or directories with images) and multi-page PDF files,
you can select the display duration 108 and an audio file 109 to play
during the slide show.
—> The media data for the media player is transferred to the internal
hard disk via the file manager (for small files - depending on the
available RAM; page 19) or an SFTP access (for large files; page 27).
So that PDF files can be displayed, they are converted into images (*.png)!
—> The conversion takes place automatically.
—> For each PDF file, a subdirectory with the png files is stored in the
directory "converted_pdfs".
—> The directory "converted_pdfs" must not be deleted!
If the directory "converted_pdfs" is deleted, the display of PDF files
is no longer possible!
—> If a PDF file is deleted, the corresponding subdirectory with the png
files is also removed.

corresponding day at the corresponding time.
