ELECTRICAL HAZARD

9
Battery Charging Procedure
Your charger is designed to use standard 120 volt AC, 60 Hz power. Do
not use DC or any other voltage. Battery charge time is approximately 90
minutes. Charging is controlled by a microprocessor. Charger will charge
the battery when the battery’s temperature is between 32°F(0°C) and
113°F(45°C). When the battery temperature is outside that range, charging
will not occur. A hot or cold battery may take longer to charge.
1. Plug the charger into an appropriate outlet. The red LED and
green LED turn on simultaneously for about 1 second, then turn off,
indicating the charger is properly plugged in, ready to use. NOTE:
Do not charge by means of an engine generator or DC power
source. Use only 120VAC.
2. Insert the battery pack into the charger (Figure 1). Be sure the pack
is fully seated in the charger. The red (charging) light will turn on
and stay solid on indicating that the charging process has started.
3. The completion of charge will be indicated by the green light
coming on and staying solid on. The battery pack is fully charged
and may be used at this time or left in the charger.
4. Unplug charger, and remove the battery pack. Place the battery
pack in the tool and be certain that it is inserted fully into the tool
cavity until it “clicks” into place.
BATTERY PACK NOTES:
1. If the battery pack is abused and/or battery voltage is under
specification (such as over discharge), the red LED will blink
immediately after the battery pack is seated in the charger. This
does not indicate a failure. Charging is ongoing at low charge
current in this case. The red LED will turn into solid on in 15 minutes
indicating start of normal charge.
2. When a hot battery (internal temperature more than 113°F (45°C))
is inserted into charger, the red LED will keep on flashing until the
temperature drops to acceptable level for normal charge.
Fig. 1 Fig. 2

10
3. To remove the battery pack from the tool, press down on the
release button on the back of the battery (Figure 2) and pull out.
Battery Charger Conditions
The charger is designed to detect certain problems that may arise with
battery packs. Problems are indicated by the red LED flashing at a fast
rate. If this occurs, remove the battery pack, wait 10 seconds, then re-
insert the battery pack. If problem persists, try a different battery pack to
determine if the charger is functioning normally. If the new pack charges
correctly, then the original pack may be damaged or defective and should
be disposed of properly (see section “Battery Disposal”) or returned to
a service center for repair or recycling. If the new battery pack gives
the same trouble indication as the original, have the charger tested at an
authorized service center.
Important Charging Notes
1. Longest life and best performance can be obtained if the battery
pack is charged when the air temperature is 65°F to 75°F (18° to
24°C). As a general practice, it is best to unplug battery charger
and remove battery pack when not in use.
2. The charger and battery pack may become warm to the touch
while charging. This is a normal condition, and does not indicate a
problem.
3. If the battery pack does not charge properly: (A) Check power at
receptacle by plugging in a lamp or other appliance. (B) Check to
see if receptacle is connected to a light switch which turns power
off when you turn out the lights. (C) Move charger and battery
pack to a location where the surrounding air temperature is
approximately 65°F to 75°F (18° to 24°C). (D) If charging problems
persist, call the Halex service phone number.
4. The battery pack should be recharged when it does not produce
sufficient power to fire staples, follow the charging procedures.
You may also charge a partially discharged pack whenever you
desire with no adverse affect on the battery pack.
5. Halex battery packs that are labeled “Li-ion” should only be
used with the Halex battery charger supplied with your tool. The
charger should be labeled “Li-ion“.
6. Under certain conditions, with the charger plugged into the power
supply, the exposed charging contacts inside the charger can be
shorted by foreign material. Foreign materials of a conductive
nature such as, but not limited to, steel wool, aluminum foil, or any
buildup of metallic particles should be kept away from charger
cavities. Always unplug the charger from the power supply when
there is no battery pack in the cavity. Unplug charger before
attempting to clean.

11
7. Do not immerse charger in water or any other liquid.

Detail description of these modes and corresponding LED condition:
1) A solid blue LED indicates that the tool is ready to fire and the battery
can produce at least 40 more shots.
2) A fast flashing red LED indicates that the battery is too low to
operate the tool and the tool will enter shut down mode shortly. A
fully charged battery should be inserted before continuing use.
3) A fast flashing blue LED indicates the tool is preparing to fire and
the battery can produce at least 40 more shots.
4) A fast flashing, alternating blue and red LED indicates the tool is
preparing to fire, but the battery will produce fewer than 40 shots.
5) A slow flashing, alternating blue and red LED indicates the tool is
ready to fire, but the battery will produce fewer than 40 shots.
6) A solid on red LED indicates there is a problem with the tool. The
user should allow the tool to completely cool down (at least one
hour), remove the battery, insert a fully charged battery and try
again.
7) If the LED is off, the tool is either in timeout mode (which it enters
after eight minutes of inactivity), powered off or batteries are
discharged.
TIMEOUT MODE NOTE: If in timeout mode, ensure the contact trip is
not depressed and pull the trigger once. This is the ONLY way to bring
the tool from timeout to active mode.

5. With the trigger off, align the cable between the wire guides and
depress the contact trip firmly against the cable and work surface.
6. Depress and maintain pressure on the trigger until the tool fires,
then release.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This tool is designed with a sequential
trip firing mechanism. For firing to occur, the contact trip and
trigger must be released after the previous shot. Then the
contact trip must be depressed again before the next staple
can be fired. A staple will fire when the trigger is depressed,
providing the contact trip stays depressed.

14
Adjusting Staple Depth (Fig. 6)
The depth that the fastener is driven can be adjusted using the
depth adjustment knob on the back of the
tool. Staple depth
is also very dependent on how firmly the
handle is held to resist
kickback (“recoil”).
WARNING: To reduce risk of serious
injury from accidental
actuation when attempting to adjust depth
ALWAYS:
• Keep tool pointed in a safe direction.
• Ensure contact trip tip is not
depressed.
• Avoid contact with trigger during adjustments.
The fastener drive depth is “infinitely” adjustable:
1. To drive the staple shallower, turn the power adjustment knob
toward the “OFF” position (counterclockwise).
2. To drive a staple deeper, rotate the power adjustment knob away
from the “OFF” position (clockwise).
3. Please note that the staple depth also depends on how firmly
the tool is held against the work while firing. The harder the
tool is held, the more resistance to kickback (“recoil”) there will be
and the staple will be driven deeper.
Clearing a Jammed Staple (Fig. 7)
If a staple becomes jammed in the nosepiece, keep the tool
pointed away from you and follow these instructions to clear:
WARNING: When clearing jams, never point the tool
at yourself or others or serious injury may result.
1. The entire time a jam is being cleared,
ensure contact trip
is not depressed and ensure trigger is
not depressed.
2. Place power switch in “OFF” position.
3. Disconnect battery.
4. Turn tool upside down and open the
magazine.
5. Remove any staples in the magazine.
6. Remove bent staple, using pliers or
screwdriver.
7. If driver blade is in the down position,
insert screwdriver or other rod into nosepiece and push driver
blade back in position. Use caution not to scratch or damage any
parts.
