Safety Instructions
Before using your Handler products, please read
safety instructions. They are for your protection and
should always be followed to reduce the risk of
personal injury or damage to the unit.
• Always wear proper eye and face protection.
Wear safety glasses or face shields whenever
you operate a Handler product or any power tool
to prevent serious eye or face injuries.
• Always disconnect the power cord before
removing or replacing the lter, servicing the unit
or when not in use.
• Always wear a face or dust mask to prevent the
inhalation of dust particles, or other debris into the
lungs.
• Keep the work area clean. Cluttered areas and
benches invite accidents.
• Don’t abuse the cord. Never carry tool by cord or
yank it to disconnect from receptacle. Keep cord
from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
• Secure the work piece. Use clamps or a vise
to hold work. It’s safer than using your hand and it
frees both hands to operate tool.
•Don’t Overreach. Keep proper footing and balance
at all times.
•Never use in an area where ammable vapors are
present.
•Use proper grounding procedures. This tool
should be grounded while in use to protect the
operator from electric shock. The tool is equipped
with an approved 3-conductor cord and a 3-prong
grounding type plug to t the proper grounding
receptacle. The green (or green and yellow)
conductor in the cord is the grounding wire. Never
connect the green (or green and yellow) wire to a
live terminal. If your unit is for use on less than
150 volts, it has a plug that looks like sketch
A below. An adapter (sketches B and C) can be
used for connecting plugs as shown in sketch
A to 2-prong receptacles. The green colored rigid
ear, lug, etc., Extending from the adapter must
be connected to a permanent ground such as a
properly grounded outlet box. Some jurisdictions,
including Canada, prohibit the use of 3 to 2
prong adapters. Where prohibited, they should
not be used. Use only 3-wire extension cords that
have 3-prong grounding type plugs and 3-pole
receptacles that accept the tool’s plug.
Thank you for Choosing the Handler Model Trimmer. Unpackage your model trimmer. Check to
make certain all accessories e.g., drain hose, inlet hose, model tray, etc. are properly packaged in
the carton. Do not discard any portion of the packaging until all parts and accessories have been
accounted for. Inspect the Model Trimmer. Should damage have occurred in transit, contact the
freight forwarder, immediately. Note on the shipping receipt any visible exterior damage to the
shipping container. DO NOT contact Handler Manufacturing, as damage must be claimed by the
receiver of merchandise-not the shipper. Failure to place a claim, promptly, may will negate your
warranty and cause possible loss of your rights to place a claim for damage . Should you require
assistance, please contact Handler Manufacturing at 1-908-233-7796 or 1-800-274-2635.

Using the Model Trimmer
1. Place Model Trimmer in a suitable bench top location,
next to a sink drain and water source.
A. Attach 1” vinyl drain hose to drain outlet located on
lower rear housing of model trimmer (under the motor base).
Place other end of drain hose in sink or proper drain location.
Make certain vinyl outlet hose is lying at and not “kinked”
on bench top so water will ow smoothly from the
rear exhaust drain.
B. Connect open end of inlet tubing to
the brass inlet located on lower right side of inside front
housing. It will be necessary to open the two housings
to accomplish this procedure. Make certain to pass
inlet tubing through cut-out provided in lower rear
housing. Secure with clamp provided.
C. Place the rubber faucet adapter over your faucet.
NOTE: Should the rubber faucet adapter t too loosely onto
your faucet outlet, fold (wrap) the rubber adapter back upon
itself to reduce the inside diameter of the rubber
faucet adapter.
2. Secure Model Trimmer to bench in the desired location
next to the sink. Bolt Trimmer to the table top using
appropriate bolts and nuts. Do not attempt to use a
Model Trimmer which has not been bolted to the table
top as injury may occur.
3. Connect electric plug to 115 volt/60Hz grounded three
prong AC outlet ONLY. Tum ON Model Trimmer (switch
locate in left rear of cover).
4. Turn ON water faucet, adjusting to a slight opening.
Use only enough water to wash the grinding wheel
during operation. If too much water pressure (volume)
is applied to the wheel, water may spray outward
and drop from the top of the front opening. Should
this happen, the water pressure should be reduced. It
is advisable to make a mark on the faucet so that it
can be opened to this point (mark) at each use. The
Model Trimmer is now ready for model grinding.
Upon completion of grinding operation(s), allow water and motor
to remain in ON position for 30 seconds or until clean water
ows from drain hose. This will help prevent plaster and stone
sludge from accumulating and clogging the model trimmer and
trimmer wheel.
iNOTE: The Handler trimmer is designed with a large work table, surrounded by a trough, which channels the
gypsum slurry into the lower drain reservoir section of the trimmer. Occasionally large pieces of plaster and
stone may clog the drain exhaust hole and cause a back-up of drain water. By simply opening the swing open
door after all water has drained from the housing, this area may be cleaned of accumulated plaster and debris.
Make certain to deactivate (TURN OFF) the trimmer and remove the electrical plug from the outlet, BEFORE,
maintenance or work is performed on your trimmer.

Wheel Replacement or Rotation
1. Turn OFF unit and remove electrical plug from electrical outlet. Open
“swing open” front housing by removing the plastic knob located on the left
rear of the rear housing.
2. Remove the two front screws which secure the motor cover onto the
motor base, behind the front housing. Loosen the two back screws. Lift the
cover up, slightly. Do not disconnect the On/Off switch.
3. Using wrenches* place the 7/8” side of the wrench onto the slot of the
rear of the bronze hub which is mounted onto the motor shaft. This will
prevent the hub from turning. Use the 1-1/4” side of the second wrench;
remove the brass hub nut, turning counter- clockwise. Remove the brass
hub nut, washer, Model Trimmer wheel and back-up plate. Clean all
plaster and stone debris which have accumulated from the back-up plate and
inside housing. Replace the back-up plate, wheel, washer and nut onto the
hub of the trimmer. Before doing so, make certain that all parts, including the
inside of the front and rear housing, have been cleaned of all adhering plaster
accumulations an debris, as described above. Close the trimmer’s front door
and secure it in place.
IMPORTANT-Be certain that the washer and nut are
sufciently wrench tightened to rmly hold grinding wheel
against metal back-up plate. Reconnect the Trimmer’s
electrical cord and turn trimmer on to ascertain that it is
free of vibration. If excessive vibration is present, open
the trimmer’s front housing, loosen nut and move grinding
wheel 1” clockwise. Retighten the brass nut. Turn trimmer
on and recheck vibration. It may be necessary to do this
several times before obtaining a properly balanced wheel-
free of vibration. When completing the wheel replacement
or rotation procedure, stand to side of trimmer, wear safety
glasses and secure any loose hair or clothing.
WARNING: ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES OR GOGGLES
WHEN USING ANY ROTATING MACHINERY. KEEP ALL
LOOSE CLOTHING AND HAIR SECURELY TIED IN PLACE TO
PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY. DO NOT USE THIS MODEL
TRIMMER OR ANY ROTATING DEVICE UNLESS YOU HAVE
BEEN PROPERLY INSTRUCTED ON ITS USE.

Water Solenoid Valve Installation
1. Disconnect the Model Trimmer from electrical source.
Disconnect the Water Inlet and Water Exhaust (outlet) connections.
Remove the mounting nuts and bolts.
2. Turn the Model Trimmer around until the rear of the motor is facing
front. Remove the utility tray and motor cover. Remove the conduit box
cover plate. This plate is normally located on the right of the motor.
3. Locate Solenoid Valve in position on center side of base opposite
Model Trimmer “On - Off” switch, with arrow (outlet) pointing toward
the rear housing. Mark location of mounting holes. Center punch
marked mounting holes. Using a 3/16” diameter drill, drill two
mounting holes through Model Trimmer base. Mount Solenoid Valve
using screws and washers provided with wire leads protruding
towards rear of Trimmer. Bring wire leads from Solenoid Valve under
base to conduit box of motor (gure 1) by feeding them through slots
in base to switch.
4. Locate the two wires which connect the switch into the circuit. One
wire from the switch is connected to the black lead (hot) of the cord
set and the other is connected to the motor lead.
Undo the connection between the switch and the motor leads, and
splice (twist together) one wire lead from the solenoid together with
the now unspliced lead from the switch and the motor leads. Use a
small wire nut to complete the splice. Overtape this splice and wire
nut with friction or plastic electrical tape.
Splice the second (remaining wire) lead from the solenoid into the
connection between the motor leads and the neutral or white lead of
the supply cord (cord containing plug). This is accomplished by
undoing the aforementioned splice, replacing the connection, and
Including the second lead from the solenoid. Make certain to splice
(twist) all wire
5. A replace motor conduit box cover and outer motor cover. Turn
Trimmer to position with Solenoid Valve facing front.
6. Cut 18” minimum length of 1/4” I.D. Inlet Tubing, and connect
one end of Tubing to ---Brass Inlet and second end to outlet of
Solenoid (Bottom section of valve marked with “0” for outlet of arrow).
Secure In place with clamps provided. Connect remaining Inlet tubing
to inlet side of Solenoid and secure with clamp.
7. Reconnect Water Outlet tubing. Relocate Trimmer to original
location, and retighten the mounting nuts and bolts.
8. Connect Inlet Tubing to water supply. Connect Trimmer to
electrical source and activate (turn on) Trimmer. Turn water on and
adjust to desired intensity (volume). A small amount of water is all that
is necessary to properly clean a wet wheel during trimming
operations. Check for possible water leaks. If any exiS1, disconnect
Trimmer from electrical source and tighten all connections before
proceeding with regular Model Trimming operations.
NOTE: It is important that the water pressure to the Solenoid valve is
turned off each night before leaving your ofce, and over a weekend or
holiday period.
