The Accentra Pellet Heater
This heating appliance does not just have
automatic ignition, it has total automatic
temperature control.
TheAccentra hasan inputheat rangefrom
0 to 40,000 BTU's.
TheAdvance feedsystem has amaximum
feed rate of 5 lbs. per hour and a minumum
(maintenance) feed rate of .75 lbs. per hour and
then "off" if necessary.
Thehopperholdsapproximately 50pounds
of fuel.The unit has an easy to clean combustion
system with an ash pan that holds ash from 1 ton
of burned premium pellets.
The control is designed for easy and
efficient operation. It has 2 automatic modes of
operation and 2 manual modes of operation.
The Accentra uses a small room sensor
rather then a wall thermostat for a more accurate
temperature control.
Thisunitis equippedwithseveral different
safetydeviceswhich willbe explained laterin this
manual.
With its specially designed burn pot and
the"AdvanceIgnitor"AutomaticIgnition System,
the unit can burn a large variety of biomass fuels
withvarying ashcontent.
The accordian style cast iron heat
exchanger system allows maximum surface area
for the most efficient heat transfer in a smaller
firebox.
INTRODUCTION

TheAccentra pellet stove is more than just automatic ignition, itis also automatic temperature
control.Theautomaticsystemwillallowthefiresizetobeadjusted tomatchtheheatingneedsand
evenputthefireoutifnecessary.Ifheatisneededafterthefireisout,theAccentrawillautomatically
re-igniteandadjustthefiresizetomatchtheheatingneed.Thetotallyautomaticroomsensormode
isrecommendedbecauseofits efficiency.
Theunitcanbe switchedbetween "AUTO"and"MANUAL"atany timeduring operation.

Room Temperature Mode
In"Room Temp Mode" heatoutputis controlled auto-
maticallybytheRoomSensingProbe.WhentheRoomSens-
ingProbecallsforheat,thestovewillincreaseoutput.When
theRoom Sensing Probe is gettingcloseto the set tempera-
ture,the stovewillbegin toleveloff outputandkeep thefire
burningatjust therighttemperaturetomaintainthatsetting.
High output is determined by the feed rate setting.
Thissetting,generallyon #4,can beincreasedifhigherburn
rates are necessary (Fig. 1). The unit's maximum burn rate
should not create less then 1" of ash on the burn pot front
edge(See Fig.4). Overfeeding is not a safety concern, but
fuelmaybewasted ifunburned pelletsfallintotheashpan.
In"RoomTempMode"aconstantfuelconsumptionrate
issacrificedforexactroom temperature.Therefore,asitgets
colder morepelletswillbeburnedautomatically.
Thedistributionblowerspeedwillvaryaccordingtothe
positionof themodeselector pointer,andfiresize.

Stove Temperature Mode
Thisallowsforautomaticignitionuponstart-uponly.The
unit can then be set at any desired setting. The heat output
andfuelconsumptionwillremainconstantregardlessofroom
temperature(SeeFig2).Theunit'smaximumfeedrateshould
notcreate less than 1"ofashon the burn potfrontedge.See
Fig4.Theunit'slowburnormaintenancesettingisaslowasit
willgo.Itwillnotgooutunlessitrunsoutoffueloristurned
off.
Shut-Down Procedure
Tokillthe fireorstop burningthestove, turntheMode
Selector to "OFF". This will cause the fire to diminish and
burnout.Whenthefire burns out and the stove cools down
everythingwillstop.
Ifyou pull the plug to shut down the stove,all motors
willstop.Thismaycauseincompletecombustionandsmoke
inthefirebox. If the load door is opened the smokemayes-
cape.Thebestway to shutdown the stoveissimply letitrun
outofpellets,thenthe stovewillshutdownautomatically.

Room Temperature Mode: This setting will produce a room
temperature of 70 degrees with the distribution blower at
medium speed.
This setting will produce medium heat with the
distribution blower on "low".
This setting will produce continuous maximum heat output
with the distribution blower at full speed.

Starting First Fire

Make sure the unit is plugged into a 120
VAC, 60 HZ electrical source. The power light
should be the only light lit.
1. Turn Mode Selector to "OFF".
2. Fill hopper with pellets.1
3. Clean burn pot with scraper, if necessary.5
4. If starting after an empty hopper, turn
Feed Adjuster to "TEST" (for one 60 second
cycle).2 This will purge pellets into the auger
tube and also allow you to check the motors
for operation. NOTE: The auger motor will
not operate with the view door or ash pan
door open.3
5. Turn Feed Adjuster to #4.4
6. Flip the Ignitor Switch down into the
"AUTO" position.
7.TurntheTemperatureDialto desired room
temperature.
8. Turn Mode Selector to Room Temperature
or Stove Temperature.
AUTOMATIC START UP
1. Fines are small pieces of broken pellets (sawdust). Fines do not
flow easily and often build up on the hopper funnel bottom angles.
These fines can be pushed into the feeder opening and then fill the
hopper with pellets. As the system works, they will be burned.
2. The "TEST" cycle will operate the feeder motor for exactly one
minute. Turning to "TEST" again and again may purge too much
fuel into the burn pot causing excessive smoke on start-up.
3. The firebox low pressure switch will not allow the auger motor
or the igniter element to operate if the view door or the ash pan
door are open.
4.Adjust Feed Rate.If this isyour first fireor you aretrying different
pellets, set the feed adjuster to #4, Fig. 3. This is a conservative
number and will probably need to be increased. After you know a
feed rate setting that works well, use that setting. Remember, if
your feed rate is too high you may waste fuel.
5. This is usually a weekly maintence procedure. Cleaning the
burn pot with the scraper with a small amount of new fuel in the
bottom is not a problem. First, scrape the ashes on the front of the
burn pot into the ash pan. Then scrape the holed surface downward
into the burn pot. When the stove is ignited these scrapings will be
pushed out by the feeder.
6. The ash pan can hold the ashes from approximately 1 ton of
premium fuel. This means the ashes will only need to be emptied a
few times a year.
7. Setting the feed adjuster # for maximum burn: With the unit
burning in "AUTO", turn to "Stove Mode" and put the fan on "H".
Set the Temperature Dial to #7. Allow the unit to burn for about
30 minutes and check ash on front of burn pot. Fig. 4. If the ash
line is larger than 1", turn the feed adjuster from #4 to #5. Allow
another 30 minutes of burn time and check again. If , at #6 setting,
a 1" or less ash bed is not obtainable, it is not a problem. The 1"
ash bed is only a maximum burn rate and at most normal settings
the ash bed will be larger.

Thedifferencebetween"AUTO"RoomTemperature
Modeand"Manual"RoomTemperature Mode is that the
firewill notgo outasthe roomtemperature goesabovethe
controlboard setting.The unitcanonly gotolow burnand
willremainthereuntilitrunsoutoffueloruntilmoreheatis
neededandthefeedrateincreases.Feedrateadjustments
anddial settingsare thesameas "AUTO"settings.

Stove Temperature Mode
Theadvantageofthismodeistoallowtheoperatorto
havealargeviewingfirewithoutblowingextraheatintothe
room.
Duringoperation,with the temperature dial set at #5
or less, the distribution fan will not operate. A #5 on the
temperaturedial and a #5 on the feed adjuster is approxi-
mately80% output.It isnotnecessarytooperate thedistri-
butionblower below this point. Therefore, there can be a
higherfeedrate(alargerviewingfire)withoutanexcessof
hotairblowingintotheroom.
An example of when to use the Manual Stove Tem-
peratureMode is if you want to watch a largefire and the
roomis aleady uptotemperature. The StoveTemperature
Mode allows you to have a larger fire and a lower sound
level,withoutthedistributionblower.
NOTE: During the use of this mode, if you keep
increasingthetemperature dial settingtoincreasethe
firesize,thedistributionblowerwillautomaticallycome
onwhen the ESPTemperaturereaches350oF, or81%
output.
NOTE: When starting the unit in the "AUTO"
modeand switching to "MANUAL", the fire mustbe
largeenoughtostart thedistributionblower.Thestart-
ingofthe blower isa signal thatthestart cycle iscom-
pletedandthe fire willnotgo out.
MANUALIGNITION/OPERATION
Room Temperature Mode: This setting will produce a room
temperature of 70 degrees with the distribution blower at
medium speed.

MANUAL START UP
Starting First Fire
Ignitor Switch to"MANUAL"
(up position)
Make sure the unit is plugged into a
120 VAC, 60 HZ electrical source. The
power light should be the only light lit.
1. Turn FEED ADJUSTER to desired feed
rate. No. 4 is good for most pellets.4
2. Turn the MODE SELECTOR to “OFF”
and then to the desired mode. This will
reset control and start the combustion mo-
tor.
3. Turn the TEMPERATURE DIAL to the
desired setting.
4. Clean burn pot with scraper if necessary.5
5. Fill burn pot with pellets, only level with
front edge. (Do Not Over Fill).
6. Add starting gel on top of the pellets. Stir
gel into pellets for fast lighting.
7. Light starting gel with a match, and close
the door. Operation will begin when the fire
reaches the proper temperature.3
8. Fill hopper with pellets and remove ashes
as required.1, 6

ESP CONTROL
Status light error messages:
1Blink:Indicatescontrol boardself diagnosticfailure.
Thisrequiresamanual reset*.
2 Blinks: Indicates that the feeder position switch
jumper(J2)on the rear of the control board isnotcon-
nected.Thestovewillfunctionnormallyuntilshutdown
isattempted. The stove willnotshutdown until it runs
outoffuel and cools to a safetemperature.
3Blinks: Indicates ESP (ExhaustSensingProbe) fail-
ure.This requiresamanualreset*.
4 Blinks: Can occur only in Room Temp Mode and
indicatesRoomSensingProbefailedornot installed.If
aRoom SensingProbeis theninstalled,the statuslight
willautomaticallyreset.
NOTE:Unit will not start in "AUTO" with thisstatus
error.
5 Blinks (In Igniter Auto. Mode Only): Indicates
thattheunithasfailed tolightwithinthe36minutestart
cycle. To reset - Turn Mode Selector to "OFF", then
turntoeithermode again.)
6Blinks:Indicates thatthe controlhascalculated poor
orincompletecombustionoccurring for more than 50
minutes.SeeTroubleshootingsectionformoredetails.

Temp dial
Allows you to adjust the room temperature in Room Temp
Mode using the outer scale marked in degrees Fahrenheit.
It also allows you to adjust the stove temperature while in
Stove Temp Mode using the inner scale marked from 1 to 7.
Mode Selector
Allows you to choose between Room Temp Mode,
Stove Temp Mode, or OFF. Also allows you to vary the
distribution blower speed by turning the knob to the
high or low side of each mode.

When installing and operating your Harman Accentra
Pellet Stove, respect basic safety standards. Read these in-
structions carefully before you attempt to install or operate
the Accentra. Failure to do so may result in damage to prop-
erty or personal injury and may void the product warranty.
Consult with your local building code agency and insur-
ance representative before you begin your installation to en-
sure compliance with local codes, including the need for per-
mits and follow-up inspections.
Several issues must be addressed when selecting a suit-
able location for your Accentra Pellet Stove. Observing re-
quired clearances to combustible materials, the proximity to a
safe chimney or venting system, and the accessibility of elec-
trical supply must all be considered. In addition, selecting a
location that takes advantage of the building's natural air flow
is also desirable to maximize the heating effectiveness of the
heater. In many cases, this is a central location within the
building.
Adequate combustion and ventilation air must be pro-
vided. The Accentra pellet stove is capable of being installed
with a 100% outside air combustion system. See Page 14
aboutventing.
Place the stove on a noncombustible floor surface. If
the floor surface is made of a combustible material, (such as
carpet, vinyl or wood), a noncombustible material must be
installed between the bottom of the unit and the floor. This
can be a minimum of a 20 gauge sheetmetal plate, ceramic
tile with grouted joints, a UL listed stove board, or a Harman
CastIron floor protector1. TheHarmanCast Iron FloorProtector is
equalto the minimumdimensions, which are24

16 x285/81.Thisal-
lows for a 2" extension on each side of the unit and a 6"
extension to the front of the ash opening (33/4"2if measured
from the base plate front edge.) The rear edge of the floor
protection can be flush with the cast base plate rear edge.
Place the stove away from combustible walls at least
as far as shown in figures 10, 11, 12, & 13
Note that the clearances shown are minimum for safety
but do not leave much room for access when cleaning or
servicing. Please take this into account when placing the
stove.

Installation
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Accentra unit is
shippedbolted to theskidthrough two holesinthe cast
baseplate. If these holes are not usedto lag the unit to
thefloorthese holes must be filledwiththe3/8"x 1/2"
hexheadboltsprovided.(Seetagonboltbagprovided.)
Adjustment of the rubber pad leveling
feet
TheAccentraisprovidedwith4rubberpadfeet.These
feetwill raisethebottomedgeof thecastbase plateoff
the floor surface. This will insure that any vibrations
caused by motors and other moving parts will not be
transferredby directcontact. Theserubberpads havea
threadedstudthat extends through the base plate. The
top of the threaded stud has a screwdriver slot.
Therefore,theunitcanbeleveledfromaboveinsidethe
unit.Thefronttwoareintherightandleftfrontcorners
ofthefirebox.NOTE:Thedoorwillneedtobepartically
closed to access the right leveling pad stud due to the
doorhinge.
The rear two studs are to the right and left of
thedistribution blower.Theyaresomewhatdifficultto
reach,therefore, it is suggested that the rear two pads
beadjustedby tilting the unit slightly forward. Adjust
thepadswithyourfingersandtiltunitbackforfit.Then
adjustthefrontpads forthe finalclearance. (Theuseof
therubberpads is not necessary if not desired.)

When installing the Accentra in a mobile home sev-
eral requirements must be followed:
1. The unit must be bolted to the floor. This can be
done with 1/4" lag screws throught the 2 holes in
the base plate shown in Fig. 16
2. The unit must also be connected for the outside
air. See page 14.
3. Floor protection and clearances must be followed
as shown on page 9.
CAUTION: This appliance must be vented to
the outside.
Due to high temperatures, the Accentra should be
placed out of traffic and away from furniture and draper-
ies. Children and adults should be alerted to the hazards
of high surface temperatures and should stay away to
avoid burn to skin and/or clothing.
Young children should be carefully supervised when
they are in the same room as the stove.
Clothing and other flammable materials should not
be placed on or near the Accentra Pellet Stove.
Installation and repair of the Accentra Pellet Stove
should be done by a qualified service person. The appli-
ance should be inspected before use and at least annually
by a qualified service person. More frequent cleaning will
be required. It is imperative that control compartments,
burners, and circulating air passageways of the Accentra
be kept clean.
AFTERTHEINSTALLATIONISCOMPLETED
Before the first fire is lit, check and record the
highandlowdraft reading numbers on page 12. Make
adjustmentsto thelowdraft atthistime, ifnecessary.
Mobile home installation should be done in
accordance with the Manufactured Home and
SafetyStandard(HUD), CFR 3280,Part 24.

Unit bolt down holes for mobile home installation lag
to floor with 1/4" lag bolts with washer (supplied by
installer.)
Keep combustible materials such as grass, leaves, etc. at
least 3 feet away from the point directly under the vent
termination.

Theseunitsarepre-testedatthefactorywithexactly
120Volts A.C., 60 Hz. They are checked and adjusted for
fireboxtightness,gasketleakage,motoroperationandignitor
operation. The Accentra is then factory set at a high
adjustment. NOTE: Low draft adjustment may be
required. The factory low draft setting may not be
correctfortheunitspermanentinstallationconditions.
Thecontrolboardon theAccentra isequipped with
a low draft adjustment port. Located on the control face
justtotheleftoftheignitorlight.SeeFigure17.Thisvoltage
adjustmentis provided to allow the unit tobe adjusted for
the household voltage where the unit is going to be in
permaneantoperation.NOTE:Thelinevoltagevariesfrom
areatoarea and often home to home.
Thelowdraftvoltageshouldbeadjustedto achieve
themost efficientburnon lowburnor "maintenance".This
voltage adjustment allows the installer to change the low
voltagesetpoint approximately 15 volts. This adjustment
shouldbe doneby theinstallerduringsetup becausea draft
meterreading is requiredtoinsureproper set up.
Iftheunitis not adjustedproperly,itdoesnotcause
asafetyconcern.Iftheunitisadjustedtoohigh,onlyeffiency
islost. If the unit isadjustedtoolow,the lowdraftpressure
switchwillnotallowthefeedermotorortheignitortooperate.
A simple draft test should be performed after
completingthe flue pipe installation. To record the results
forfuturereference:
1. Plugunitintoa120VAC,60HZ outlet.
2. Closethe hopper lid, front view door, and theash pan.
Neitherpellets or a firearerequiredfor this test.
3. Withthemodeselector in the "OFF" position, turn the
feedadjuster to"TEST".
4. Recordthehighdraft_____in.W.C. (Normal is -.45 to
-.55)Thecontrol will be on the High Draft for a total of 2
minutes.
5. After2minutesisup,thecombustionmotorwillgodown
tolowdraftandthedistributionblowerwillgoonhigh.Allow
approximately15secondstopassforthecombustionmotor
toslow before checkingthelow draft.
6. Ifthelowdraftisbetween.30and.35,recordthereading
_____in. W.C. Ifthe reading ishigher,slowly turn theset
screwcounter-clockwiseuntilthedraftlowers.Ifthereading
islower,veryslowlyturn thesetscrew clockwise untilthe
draftincreases.
NOTE:Thetestmodealternatesfromhightolowdraft
every 60 seconds. If more time is needed for draft
adjustment,waituntilthenext low draft cycle.
NOTE: In some cases, the draft may not go as low as
.30 even with the set screw completely counter-
clockwise.

canbe hidden along the trim of a doorway or even up
theleg ofacoffee table.Thereis a remoteroomsensor
portontherearoftheunitforeasyexternalconnection.
Use standard 18-2 thermostat wire to extend the dis-
tancetothedesiredlocation(100' maximum).Theroom
sensorshouldbeinstalledinthelocationwhereyouwant
tocontrol thetemperature.
NOTE: Distances of more than 25 feet from the
unitorinanotherroomarenotrecommended.Theroom
sensorisessentialfortheAccentra'sexcellentefficiency.
It is recommended that the room sensor be
installed,evenifonlyinstalled ontherearoftheunitas
areturn airsensor.Thereis anintakescreen onthe bot-
tom of the rear sheetmetal enclosure. This is an ideal
place to tyrap the sensor head to sense return air tem-
perature.
Do not allow pellets or sawdust to build up on the
hopperlip.
Inspect the hopper lid gasket for damage. A good
hopperlidsealisveryimportantforproper operation.

that only need to be loosened (NOT REMOVED) to

Venting
Acombustionblowerisusedtoextractthecom-
bustiongasesfrom the firebox. This causes a negative
pressure in the firebox and a positive pressure in the
ventingsystem asshown infig.22. Thelonger thevent
pipe and more elbows used in the system, the greater
theflow resistance. Because of these facts werecom-
mend using as few elbows as possible and 15 feet or
lessof vent pipe. The maximumhorizontalrunshould
notexceed48".Ifmorethan15feetofpipeisneeded,
thediameter shouldbeincreasedfrom3" to4"because
a larger pipe causes less flow resistance. Be sure to
useapprovedpelletventpipewallandceilingpass-
throughfittingstogothroughcombustiblewallsand
ceilings. Be sure to use a starting collar to attach the
ventingsysten to the stove. Thestartingcollarmust
be sealed to the stove with high temp silicone
caulking.

Outside Air
Outsideairisoptionalexceptinmobilehomesand
wherebuildingcodesrequire. Thebenefitofoutsideair
ismainlynoticedinsmall,verytighthouses.
To install outsideairuse 2 3/8" I.D.flexpipepart
number 2-00-08543. There is a break-away hole on
therear panel whichmustbe removed beforeconnect-
ing the flex pipe. The pipe should be run outside and
terminatetothesideor belowthe ventpipeoutletsothe
flue outlet is more than 12" from the inlet cover. The
maximumlengthrunofthispipeis15feet.Ifalongerrun
isneeded,thesizemust be increased to 3". Inlet cover
partnumber1-10-08542 should be used tokeepbirds,
rodents,etc.outof pipe.
Vent Pipe
Pellet venting pipe ( also known as PL vent ) is
constructed of two layers with air space between the
layers. This air space acts as an insulator and reduces
theoutside surface temperature toallowa clearance to
combustiblesofonly3inches.Thesectionsofpipelock
togethertoformanairtightsealinmostcases;however,
in some cases a perfect seal is not achieved. For this
reason and the fact that the Accentra operates with a
positiveventpressure, wespecifythatthejointsalso
be sealed with clear silicone.

#2 Preferred method
This method also provides excellent venting for
normaloperationbutrequiresthe stove to be installed
farther from the wall. The vertical portion of the vent
shouldbethree tofivefeethighandatleast threeinches
fromacombustiblewall. Thisvertical sectionwillpro-
videnatural draftin theeventof apower failure.
#1 Preferred method
Thismethodprovidesexcellentventingfornormal
operationand allowsthestove tobeinstalled closestto
the wall. Two and a half inches from the wall is safe;
however, threeinchesallowsbetteraccess to remove
therearpanel.Theverticalportion oftheventshouldbe
threetofivefeethigh.Thisverticalsectionwill provide
naturaldraft inthe eventofa powerfailure.

methodis that it isharderto clean the vent pipe,there-
fore,there is a tendancy nottodoit as often asneeded.

Maintenance - Cleaning Glass on View Door
Theunit shouldbe outandcooltoclean thedoor glass.Itmay notalways bepossibletoallowthe unit
tocooloffbefore cleaning.Therefore, iftheunitisturnedtothe lowestsetting about1 hourbeforecleaning,it
willmakeitpossibletocleantheglasswiththe unitin operation.
Anyglasscleaner withahighamoniacontentwillwork thebest.Useonlynon-synthetic cleaningrags
suchas cotton or paper towels.
CAUTION:Takecarewhen spraying cleaner onthe side surfaceof the glass. The glassmay be hot
enough to cause undesirable fumes to fill the area around the unit very rapidly. Gloves and eye
protectionare recommended.
