recommended thattherearcoversareinstalledafter
theunit isinplaceandtheventpipe isinstalled.
Installthefirebrickverticallyontheangleabove

tion. Doesthedoorrope compress?
If not,loosenthe
setscrew,turnthepawboltonemoreturnintothedoor.
Repeatasrequiredtoachieveatightdoorfit.
NOTE:Remembertothoroughlycleanthe glass

Installing
Placethe stoveonanoncombustiblefloorprotector
that extends
6 inches to the front, 6 inches to the sides
and 1 inch to the rear of the stove. The minimum floor
protector material is 24 gauge sheetmetal.
Placethestoveawayfromcombustiblewalls atleast
as far as shown in figures 3,4 and 5. Please note the
difference in side wall clearance with and without side
shields.
Note that the clearances shown are minimum for
safetybut do not leavemuchroom foraccesswhen clean-
ingor servicing.Pleasetake this intoaccountwhenplac-
'ing the stove.
Connect the power cord to a 120 V.A.C.

Priortoinstallingthefluepipe, connecta
draft meter
to the stove as shown in fig.

have aminimumrangeof 0-.5).However, prior totaking

home are closed. Record the draft reading

reading, check for possible restrictions or the need for
outside
air (see page 8).
MobileHomeInstallation
When insbllingthis unit in amobilehome severalre-
quirementsmustbe followed:
1. The unit mu&be bolted to the floor. This can be
2 done with 114" lag screws through the 2 holes in the base
plate.2. Theunit must alsobe connectedforthe outside
air.

3. Floor protection and clearances must be followed
as shown.
4. Unit must be grounded to the metal frame of the
mobilehome.
CAUTION: This appliance must be vented to the out-
side.
Due to high temperatures,the stove should be placed
out of -c and away from
furniture and draperies.
Childrenand adultsshouldbe alertedtothehazardsof
high surface temperatures and should stay away to avoid
burn to skin andlorclothing.
Young children should be carefully supervised when
they are in the same room as the stove.
Clothingand otherflammablematerials shouldnot be
placed onor near this unit.
Installationandrepair of this
Harman Stoveshouldbe
doneby aqualified serviceperson. Theapplianceshouldbe
inspected before use and at least annually by a qualified
serviceperson. More frequent cleaning will
be required. It
isimperativethatcontrolcompartments,burners, andcircu-
lating air passageways of the stove be kept clean.

Requirementsfor Terminating the Venting
WARNING: Venting terminalsmust not be re-
cessed intoa wall or siding.

fect the prevailingwind directionor otherwind cur-

A. The clearanceabovegrade mustbea mirii-
mumof 18".l
6. Theclearancetoa windowor doorthat may
be opened must be a minimumof 48" to the side,

mend using asfew elbows aspossible and

lessof ventpipe. Themaximumhorizontalrun should
not exceed
48". If morethan 15 feetof pipeisneeded,
thediametershouldbeincreasedfrom
3" to 4" because
a largerpipe causesless flow resistance.
Be sure to
useapprovedpelletventpipewallandceilingpass
through
fittings togothroughcombustible walls and
ceilings.
Besuretouse a startingcollarto attachthe
ventingsystentothe stove.
Thestartingcollarmust
be sealed to the stove with high temp silicone
caulking.

#I Preferred method
Thismethodprovidesexcellentventing fornormal
operationand allowsthe stoveto beinstalledclosestto
thewall.Twoinches

inchesallowsbetter accessto remove the rearpanel.
Theverticalportionofthevent shouldbethreetofive
feet
high. Thisverticalsectionwillprovidenatural draft
in theeventofapowerfailure.

letventpipefittings.
Seal pipejoints with siliconeinad-
ditiontothesealingsystemusedby themanufacturer.
Pipesizeshouldbe increasedto

chimney.Thepipeor

In thismethodacapshouldalsobeinstalledonthe
chimney to keep out rain. One disadvantageof this
methodisthatitishardertoclean theventpipe,there-
fore,thereisatendancynottodoitasoftenasneeded.

TheP61Apellet stoveismore than just automaticignition,it is alsoautomatictemperaturecontrol.
Theautomaticsystem
will allowthefiresizeto be adjustedtomatchtheheatingneedsandevenput
dedafterthefireisout,theP61A willautomaticallyre-ignite
andadjustthe fire sizetomatch the heatingneed.Thetotallyautomaticroom sensormode is
recommendedbecauseof itsefficiency.
Theunit canbe switchedbetween
"AUTO" and "MANUAL" atanytimeduringoperation.

Room Temperature Mode
In "RoomTempMode"heat outputiscontrolledauto-
maticallyby theRoomSensingProbe.WhentheRoomSens-
ingProbecallsforheat,thestovewillincreaseoutput.When
theRoom SensingProbeisgettingclosetothe settempera-
ture,thestovewillbegintoleveloff outputandkeepthefire
burningatjust therighttemperatureto maintain thatsetting.
Highoutputisdeterminedby the feedrate setting.
Thissetting,generallyon
#4, canbeincreasedifhgherburn
ratesarenecessary.Theunit's

Shut-Down Procedure
To kill thefireorstopbegthe stove, turn the Mode
Selectorto "OFF". Thiswill causethefiretodiminish and
burnout.Whenthefireburnsoutandthe stovecoolsdown
everythrngwill stop.
If youpull the plug toshutdownthe stove,allmotors
will stop.Thismaycauseincompletecombustionandsmoke
inthefirebox.If theloaddoorisopenedthe smokemayes-
cape.
Thebestwavtoshutdownthestoveissimplyletitrun
outof pellets,thenthestovewillshutdownautomatically.

NOTICE:
Whenpower isgivento the stove,the controlboard

controlboard.
1. Turn Mode Selector to "OFF".
2. Fillhopper withpe1lets.l
3. Cleanburnpot with scraper,ifnece~sary.~
4. If starting after an empty hopper, turn
FeedAdjusterto "TEST"
(forone 60 second
I. Fines are smallpieces of brokenpellets (sawdust).Fines do not
flow easily and often build up on thehopperfunnel bottom angles.
Thesefines can bepushed into thefeeder opening and thenfill the
hopper withpellets. As thesystem works, they will be burned.
2. The "TEST"cycle will operate thefeeder motorfor exactly one
minute. Turning to "TEST"again and again maypurge too much
fuel into the burnpot causing excessive smoke on start-up.
3. Thefirebox lowpressure switch will not allow the auger motor
or the igniter element to operate ifthe view door or the ash pan
door are open.
4. AdjustFeed Rate.Ifthis isyourfirstfire oryou aretryingdzferent
pellets, set thefeed adjuster to #4, Fig. 17. This is a conservative
number and willprobablyneed to be increased. Afteryou know a
feed rate setting that works well, use that setting. Remember,
if
yourfeed rate is too high you may wastefuel.
5. This is usually a weekly maintence procedure. Cleaning the
burnpot with the scraper with a small amount of newfuel in the
bottom
is not aproblem. First, scrape theashes on thefiontof the
burnpot intotheashpan. Thenscrape theholedsurfacedownward
into theburnpot. Whenthestove is ignited thesescrapings will be
pushed out by thefeeder.
6. The ash pan can hold the ashesfrom approximateIy
I ton of
premiumfuel. Thismeans theashes will only need to be emptied a
few timesayear.
7. Setting thefeed adjuster #for maximum burn: With the unit
burning in
'Y AT0",turn to "StoveModeffandputthefan on "H':
Set the Temperature Dial to #7.Allow the unit to burnfor about
30 minutes and check ash on

3. Withthemodeselectorin the"OFF"position,

.60)Thecontrolwillbeon the HighDraft for atotal of 2
minutes.
5. After 2minutesisup,thecombustionmotorwillgodown
tolow
draft andthedistributionblower will goon high. Allow
approximately 15secondstopassforthecombustionmotor
toslowbeforecheckingthelowdraft.
6. If the low draft is between -.35 and -.45, record the
reading inW.C.
If thereadingishigher, slowly turn
thesetscrewcounter-clockwise until the draft lowers. If the
readingislower,very slowly
turn the setscrew clockwise
until the draft increases.
NOTE: Thetestmodealternatesfrom high tolowdraft
every
60 seconds. If more time is needed for draft
adjustment,wait untilthenextlowdraftcycle.
NOTE:In somecases,thedraftmaynotgoaslow as
-.35 to -.45 evenwiththesetscrewcompletelycounter-

Room Sensor Installation Rear Shields

The room sensor is a small temperature sen-
sor on the end of a 60" gray wire. This sensor is
installed much likea standardwall thermostat. Be-
cause it isso small, it can be hiddenalong the trim
of a doorway or even up the leg of a coffee table.
There is a remote room sensor port on the rear of
the unitfor easy external connection. Usestandard
18-2thermostatwire to extend the distance to the
desired location (100' maximum). The room sen-
sorshouldbeinstalledinthe locationwhereyouwant
to controlthe temperature.
IVOTE: Distances of more than 25 feet from
the unit or inanother room are not recommended.
The room sensor isessentialfor the PGIA'sexcel-
lentefficiency.
IVOTE:
It is recommended that the room
sensor be installed,
even if only installed on the
rearofthe unitas a returnair sensor.
