Troubleshooting
Notes on system compat b l ty
For re ording analog hannels you need a P4 2.8 CPU or higher speed. In some ases a
faster pro essor might be required. Slow or jerky video indi ate system performan e prob-
lems.
Not gett ng proper d splay of l ve v deo
Improper display or distorted video at the bottom of the display area an be aused by VGA
overlay or video buffering, in your PC or laptop: a graphi s system whi h annot keep up
with the high data rates or video overlay. Here are some tips on improving graphi s perform-
an e:
- Use the latest graphi s driver: graphi s drivers are often ‘tweaked’ to improve performan e,
espe ially on built-in graphi s on laptops. Che k the Mi rosoft Windows update site to
download the latest graphi s driver for your omputer, or he k your omputers manufa -
turer website for the latest graphi s driver.
- You an try a different video renderer. To do this, open the WinTV Settings dialog ( li k the
“gear” i on), and in the General tab hange the Video Renderer option. The Video Render
is a software interfa e to your graphi s ard. The default mode used is EVR. Espe ially on
Windows XP the display performan e may be better when sele ting VMR7 or VMR9 in-
stead. Changes to this setting require restarting live TV/Video. (Note that the snapshot
fun tion only works with VMR7 or EVR.)
V deo Standard Select on (PAL / NTSC)
The WinTV7 installer sets the video standard a ording to your sele tion during installation.
(When you set up the video hannels in the Devi e Setup Wizard, the video standard sele -
tion is urrently ignored.) PAL BGHIDK is the ommonly used format in Europe, NTSC is the
broad ast format used in North Ameri a.
If you sele ted PAL during installation, and later onne t a NTSC video sour e, you will see a
garbled video image in WinTV. To orre t this, you need to uninstall the Hauppauge WinTV7
appli ation, and sele t the proper video standard when reinstalling it.
A qui ker way to hange the video format without reinstalling WinTV7 is this: Lo ate the file
'GenPCI.ini' in the C:\Program Files\WinTV\TVServer folder. Open this file in notepad and find
the se tion [Impa tVCB-e]. In this se tion hange the line 'SOURCE_1_TUNER_FORMAT=16'
to 'SOURCE_1_TUNER_FORMAT=1' (1 = NTSC, 16 = PAL). Then restart Windows or just
restart the 'HauppaugeTVServer' servi e in the Windows Control Panel under Manage / Serv-
i es.
Un nstall ng the W nTV dr ver and appl cat on
Run the h w lear.exe from the installation CD. Sele t OK. A bla k s reen will briefly appear
and on e it has disappeared the software will have been removed.
