Quic Installation Guide for Windows
1 Contents of the Package
If a CD ROM is inclu e , run Setup
from the CD ROM.
If a CD ROM is not inclu e , open
your web browser an enter the
ownloa link from the WinTV v8
Download Document into the a -
ress bar. Or alternate, visit
www.hauppauge.co.uk ,
click on “SUPPORT”, then “WinTV
v8”.
Downloa the WinTV8 Setup file to
your computer.
Then run the ownloa e file, for ex-
ample wintv8setup_3 180.exe (the
version number may vary).
Select your language an click
“Next”. Follow the instructions on
your screen.
First the evice river for the WinTV
stick will be installe .
In the “Activation Require ” win ow,
click on the button “Enter Serial
Number” an enter the serial num-
ber from the WinTV v8 Downloa
Document (or CD sleeve).
After successful activation, the
WinTV application will be installe . It
is recommen e to use the efault
irectories for the program an ata
files.
After the installation, you will fin a
‘WinTV 8’ icon on your esktop an
a “Hauppauge WinTV” fol er in the
Win ows Start menu.
Please note:
- This step requires that the WinTV stick is connected to the USB port.
- It is recommended to disable your antivirus software during installation.
- An Internet connection is required for software activation.
4 Software Installation
To run the WinTV v8 appli-
cation, ouble-click on
the WinTV 8 icon on your
Desktop. On the first start
of the application, the Device Setup
Wizard will appear.
Set the checkmark for the type of TV
signal that is connecte to the
WinTV-HVR stick.
Digital Terrestrial TV
For igital terrestrial TV over antenna
set the checkmark on “Digital Ter-
restrial TV (DVB-T)”.
Cable TV
If you have connecte the WinTV-
HVR stick to a cable TV fee , set the
checkmark on “Digital Cable (DVB-
C)”. You can also set the checkmark
on Analog TV to scan for analog TV
channels.
External Video Source
If you have connecte an external
vi eo source using the supplie A/V
Input Cable, select “External Inputs
Composite/S-Video)”.
Click on the Next Button to continue.
Select your Country an Region. If
your region is not liste , choose the
efault selection for the region.
Click Next to start scanning for chan-
nels.
Channels will be foun an liste
uring the scan.
Once this is complete, click Next to fin-
ish.
Rerun Channel Scan
To scan for channels at a later time, in
the main WinTV win ow click on the
gear icon , then select the “Devices”
tab, click on the WinTV evice entry
an click on “Tuner Setup”.

1. Turn on your PC or Laptop an wait until Win ows has completely starte .
2. Plug the WinTV-HVR Stick into a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port using the supplie USB
extension cable. This is to re uce mechanical loa to the USB port, an also a ja-
cent USB ports can still be use .
Note: Due to power and bandwidth requirements, we do not recommend con-
necting the unit into an external USB hub.
Cable TV
On a cable TV fee , the WinTV-HVR-930C/935 HD can receive igital TV/ra io pro-
grams (DVB-C) an also analog TV programs (PAL).
Connect the TV output on the cable TV socket to the TV input on the WinTV-HVR
Stick, using a high quality antenna cable (not supplie ).
Digital Terrestrial TV
WinTV-HVR-930C/935 HD can receive DVB-T broa casts from an antenna. In a ition,
the WinTV-HVR-935 HD can also receive the new DVB-T2 signals.
Connect the supplie antenna, or a suitable roof top antenna to the TV input on the
WinTV-HVR-930C/935 HD.
To receive igital terrestrial TV, you shoul ensure you are locate in an area that sup-
ports Digital Terrestrial TV by visiting one of these websites:

Note: When using an indoor antenna with built-in amplifier, the power for the
amplifier needs to come from a separate power supply.
Connecting a Video Source
You can connect an external vi eo source using the supplie A/V cable. Connect the
vi eo signal to the yellow RCA plug or the black S-Vi eo plug (4 pin) on the A/V cable.
Connect the au io signal to the white an re plugs on the A/V cable. Connect the
other en of the A/V cable to the micro USB connector on the si e of the WinTV-HVR
stick.

Playing Bac Recordings
To watch a recor ing, click on the Open File for Playback button an select the
recor ing, or click the Menu button an select “Recor ings” from the menu.
TV Guide
Many igital TV channels transmit
Electronic Program Gui e informa-
tion (EPG). This information is col-
lecte an isplaye in the TV Gui e
win ow. Click a program title with
your mouse to see more etails
about the entry.
To recor a program, click on
Record in the etails view. The
sche ule recor ing is a e to the
Sche uler win ow. To rescan all fre-
quencies for TV Gui e information,
click on Update EPG.
Manually Schedule a Recording
Click on the Menu button an select
“Sche uler” from the menu.
The Sche uler allows you to recor
a TV program at a certain ate an
time on a specifie channel. It lists
all sche ule recor ings a e by
the TV Gui e as well as any manual
recor ings that have been set.
From here you can Edit or Cancel
( elete) existing sche ule entries.
To sche ule a new recor ing, click
on the Add button. You will nee to
select the channel, set the start time,
uration etc. an confirm with a click
on the Record button.
Note: The WinTV application
does not have to be running
for a scheduled recording to
work, but your PC will need to be
either turned on, in Standby or in
Hibernate mode. All scheduled
recordings are performed in the
background by the task
“WinTVRec.exe . If a recording is
started while you are watching
live TV, WinTV will display the TV
program being recorded.
Start Live TV
To start Live TV, click on the TV icon: .
Ways to Change Channels
- Click on the arrow buttons an .
- Enter a preset number using keyboar or remote
control.
- Using the keyboar , enter the starting letter of a
channel’s name.
- Click on the Menu button an select “Fin Channel”
from the Context menu (picture right).
Record TV manually
- To start recor ing, click on the Record button.
- To finish the recor ing, click on the Recor button again, or click on the Stop but-
ton.
Recording Location
By efault, recor ings (an Snapshots) are place into C:\Users\Public\Videos.
You can change this in the WinTV settings on the ‘Capture’ tab.
Chec ing the Device Driver
To check if the evice river is in-
stalle correctly: In the Control
Panel click System an select De-
vice Manager. In the category
„Soun , vi eo an game controllers“
you shoul see the entry „Haup-
pauge WinTV-HVR-...“ without any
exclamation mark. In the category
„Human Interface Devices” the entry
„Hauppauge CIR Receiver“ shoul
be present, which is require for the
remote control function.
Digital Terrestrial TV Reception
(DVB-T) in the UK
Please check your DVB-T reception,
from the DTG (UK) website:
www.dtg.org.uk
(Search for “coverage checker”.)
For the best DVB-T reception we rec-
ommen using a roof top antenna. When using an in oor antenna with built in ampli-
fier, the power for the amplifier nee s to come from a separate power supply.
How Can I Rerun the Channel Scan?
To scan for channels again, in the main WinTV win ow click on the Settings button ,
then select the “Devices” tab, click on the WinTV evice entry an click on “Tuner
Setup”.
Display Problems
If there are problems with the TV isplay, they can possibly be rectifie by changing
the vi eo ren erer options. Click on the Settings button in WinTV an select the "Gen-
eral" tab, then select a ifferent vi eo ren erer (e.g. VMR9) an restart the WinTV ap-
plication.

WinTV v8 has many features, inclu ing live TV, recor ing an pausing live TV, a TV

Insert the battery into the remote control, following the correct polarity.
On start up of Win ows, the IR software (ir.exe) is loa e from the Startup fol er (“Au-
toStart IR”). When ir.exe is loa e , you see a black remote control icon in the system
tray area on the Win ows task bar (next to the
clock).
Hints on Using the Remote Control
- The IR sensor is built into the WinTV stick, an
locate on its si e. So when using the remote
control, point it towar s the WinTV stick.
- The WinTV application only respon s to the
remote control if it is the active win ow.
- In case the WinTV stick is not connecte to the USB port uring Win ows start up,
the IR software will not be loa e an the remote control will not function. To make
it work, after connecting the WinTV stick, run the “Restart IR“ shortcut in the Start
menu or in the “A vance Options” fol er on your Desktop.
