1.2General SafetyInstructions
Radiocontrolsfacilitateand increasethe operating efficiency of cranesand machines.
Nevertheless,the operatormustthoroughlyunderstand and be inaposition toproperly
usearadiocontrolsystem!
Ø Read the Operating InstructionsManualcarefullyand thoroughlybeforeworking with
the transmitterforthe first time!
Ø The operatorundertakestostrictlyadheretothe instructionsand proceedings
described inthismanual,aswell astofollowthe generalrulesand regulationsfor
workersafetyand accidentprevention.Ignoring anysuchinstructionsorregulations
couldposeafatalthreat tothe operatororothers.
Ø Keep thismanualon location and readilyavailableat all times!
Ø Onlyauthorized and properlytrained personnelmayoperatethe transmitter.
Ø Anyone who isunderthe influenceofdrugs,alcoholormedication thathasa
detrimentaleffecton aperson'sreactionsmayatno timecommission,operate,
maintainorrepairthe transmitter.
Ø Beforeswitching the transmitteron ensurethatno-one isorcan be endangered by
the initiated operation.
Ø UseonlyoriginalHBCbatteries.The useofbatteriesotherthan originalHBC
batteriescan causemalfunction and securityproblemsduring the charging process
(overheating oreven battery explosion)!
Ø Withthe first signsofanymalfunction related tothe operativesafetyand reliability
ofthe devicethe operatormustimmediatelyshutdownornotactivatethe
transmitter. Forthe purposeofthe present manual"shut down"implies:
–switching off the transmitter,
–storing the transmitterinasafeplaceand ensuring no unauthorized access,
–de-energizing the receiver,
–unplugging the connection cableon the receiver!
Ø Defectsmustbe repaired and sourcesofinterferencemustbe removed immediately!
Ø Adefectivetransmittermayonlybe repaired byqualified and competentpersonnel.
UseonlyoriginalHBCspareparts.The devicesecuritycannotbe guaranteed with
the useofsparepartsotherthan HBCoriginals,and thisvoidsourextended
warranty. Onlythe legalwarrantyregulationsarethen applicable.
Ø Observeall periodicaltestsand inspectionsthatarerequired bylawor
recommended inthe present operating instructions!
Ø When using the transmitteralwaysobservethe regulationsand instructions
stipulated inthe authoritativeworkersafetyand accident prevention regulations.
–The transmitterhasbeen manufactured inaccordancewiththe regulationsand
guidelinesstipulated inthe German Trade Association's"Safetyand Accident
Prevention RegulationsforOperating CranesbyRadioControls"(BGVD6;ZH
1/547)and DINEN13557.
–The transmitterhasbeen tested and approved inaccordancewithEMC
guidelinesand complieswiththe authoritativestandardsforemitted interference
and interferenceimmunity.
Ø Usethe transmittercautiouslyand properly.Inparticularwhen using atransmitterto
radiocontrolamachine orcrane forthe first time.

Ø Beforebeginning crane operation,position yourselfsothatyou haveaclearand
completeoverviewofthe working radiusofthe crane ormachine.
Ø Pleasebe carefulofassumed changesofdirection when you change position!
Ø Incaseof an emergency oranydisturbanceswithinthe working range ofthe crane
ormachine,switchthe transmitteroff immediatelybypressing the STOPswitch.
Shouldthe transmittershowsignsoftechnicalfailureorbreakdown, disconnectthe
radiocontrolsystemimmediately!
Ø Alwaysswitchoff the transmitterduring breaksand afterfinishing work toavoid
operating errorsoranyaccidentalactuation ofoperatorcontrols.
–Theseprecautionsareparticularlyimportantwheneverchanging yourposition or
climbing overan obstacle.
Ø Neverleavean activated transmitterunattended.The operatorundertakestofollow
and complywiththe authoritativeregulationsforworkersafetyand accident
prevention.
Note:
Inthe eventofan interruption ofthe radiolinkduring aworking cycle–whatcan
occasionallyhappen –bothtransmitterand receiverautomaticallyshut down(so-called
"compulsory switch-off").
Toreactivatethe systemreleaseall operatorcontrols,suchaspushbuttonsor
momentary contacts,and allowthe controlelementstoreturntotheirzeroposition.The
systemmustbe reactivated beforethe crane ormachine can reacttocontrolcommands!
Thisfeaturehindersanyuncontrolled orunwanted crane ormachine movement, should
the radiolinkbe interrupted.
Please observe:
If the crane isequipped withaMainContactoryou mustpress the button beforethe
crane can react againtocontrolcommands!

2Operation
The transmitterisequipped withan electronicradiomatic®iONkey.
radiomatic®iONcontainsall the datarequired foroperating the
transmitter. Operation isnot possiblewithout radiomatic®iON!
The radiomatic®iONcan alsobe used foroperation ofreplacement
transmittersofidenticalconstruction.
Activating thetransmitter
1.Insert acharged battery intothe battery compartment.
2.Unlock the STOPswitchbyturning.
3.Press button.
Ifthe displayflashesgreen, the transmitterisreadyforoperation
Deactivating thetransmitter
Press the STOPswitch.
Caution:
Beforestarting work alwayspress the button and triggerthe acousticsignal.This
warnsall colleaguesthat the crane ormachine isabout tomove.
Note:
Replacethe battery when the displayinthe transmitterflashesred and an acoustic
signalsounds. Otherwise, the transmitterwill switchoff inafewminutes.
Recharge the emptybattery inthe respectivecharger.

AutomaticSwitch-OFF (APO Function)
Forsafetyreasonswehaveequipped the transmitterwithan automaticswitch-OFF
(APO= Automatic Power Off function).The transmitterisautomaticallyputoutofcircuit
after15 minutesofnon-use.
The automaticswitch-OFF alsosavesbattery power.
The transmittercan be reactivated bymeansofthe button.
Note:
The automaticswitch-OFF (APOfunction) does notrelieve the operatorofhis
responsibilitytoturnoff the transmitterwhen not inuse!
FrequencySelection
Fixedfrequency
Ifthe identification plateinthe battery compartmentofthe transmittershowsafrequency
value (e.g. 433.500 MHz), the transmitteroperateswithafixed frequency.
Pleasecontactyourservicedepartmentifthe frequency hastobe changed becausethe
frequency channelisalreadyassigned toanotheroperator.
Manual frequencyswitching
Ifthe identification plateinthe battery compartmentof the transmittershowsthe label
man, the transmitterfeatures manual frequency switching.
Thisfunction can be used tochange the frequency channelduring radiooperation.Press
the button intothe first step until an acousticsignalsounds. Then releasethe button.
radiomatic®AFSoption
Ifthe identification plateinthe battery compartmentof the transmittershowsthe label
AFS,the transmitterisequipped with radiomatic®AFS (AutomaticFrequency
Selection).
When activating the transmitterradiomatic® AFS(AutomaticFrequency Selection)will
check ifthe presentfrequency channelisfree.Ifthe frequency channelisoccupied,the
systemautomaticallyfindsand savesafree frequency channel.
The radiomatic®AFSoption alsoincludesthe manualfrequency switching function for
changing the frequency channelduring radiooperation.

2.1Batteryand BatteryCharger
2.1.1TransmitterBatteryBA2250_0
The battery capacitydependson the age ofthe battery and the ambienttemperature.
Olderbatterieslosetheircapacityovertime.The battery capacitydiminishesmore
quicklyat temperaturesbelow0°C(32 °F)and above40 °C(104 °F).
Pleasenotethat the battery
Ø must be charged beforeinitialuse.
Ø onlyreachesitsfull capacityafterapprox. 5charging cycles.
Ø mustbe charged atan ambienttemperatureof0–40 °C(32 –104 °F)inorderto
reachfull capacity.
When handled properlythe battery can exceed 500 charging cycles:
Ø Recharge the battery onlywhen itisempty,i.e.when the red displayon the
transmitterblinksand the acousticsignalsounds.
Ø Alwaysstorerechargeablebatteriesat roomtemperature.
Ø Protectthe battery fromshortcircuitsand alwaysstoreitinthe protectivecover
provided.
Ø Charge the battery fullybeforestoring itforaprolonged period.Otherwisetotal
discharge mayoccur.

Changing theplug
1.Releasethe plug bypushing the switch inthe
direction ofthe arrow.
2.Select adifferent plug and insert it intothe adapter
compartment. Makesurethe plug clicksintoplace.
Charging thebattery
1.Connect the battery chargertothe mains.
2.Connectthe battery chargertothe battery
compartment.
3.Insertthe battery withthe inscription facing up
intothe battery compartment.
The red LEDon the chargerindicatesthe actual
operating state(see tablebelow).

2.2.1Utilizationof buttonas shift key
The RPM+and RPM–buttonshaveadualfunction.
Ifthe button iskept depressed and the RPM+resp. RPM–button isalsoactivated,
the MotorStart resp. MotorStop command will be output.
2.2.2CableControl Option
Connecting thecable
1.Press the STOPswitch on the transmitter.
2.Removethe screwlock on the transmitterand receiver.
3.Connect the transmitterand the receiverwiththe cable.
Ensurethat the connectorislocked (clockwise).
4.Unlock the STOPswitch ofthe transmitterbyturning.
5.Press button.
Note:
–Ifthe connection cableisconnected toatransmitterwhileitis
switched on, the transmitterswitchesoff automatically.Press
the button toswitchtocableoperation.
–When the systemisincablemode the transmitterwill receive
the supply-voltage fromthe receiver.I.e.the transmittercan
be used without the battery.
–Ifthe connection cablebetween the transmitterand the
receiverisremoved,the radiosystemswitchesoff
automatically.Press the button toswitchback toradio
operation.

radiomatic®infrakeyisan additionalinfrared moduleforthe transmitterand the receiver.
Due toseparatecrane activation viainfrared linkitincreasesthe safetyofoperation,i.e.
the crane can not becomeinadvertentlyenabled.
The range ofthe infrared beamismax.approx.20 meters(66 feet)and the angleof
radiation is34°.
Toactivate radiomatic®infrakey, press the button on the transmitter.

Viathe Catch–ReleaseOption twoormoreradiotransmitterscan controlacrane
alternately.
When the radioreceiverisswitched on,the crane can initiallybe controlled viaany
associated transmitter.Oncethe radioreceiverwastaken overbyone transmitter,the
othertransmittersno longerhaveaccess.
Take over crane
1.Unlock the STOPswitchofthe transmitterbyturning, and press button.
2.Enterthe “Catch“command on the transmitter.
The access rightsforthe crane remainwiththattransmitteruntil the "Release"command
isissued bythat transmitter.
Release crane
1.Enterthe "Release"command on the transmitter.
2.Press the STOPswitchon the transmitter.
The access rightsforthe crane arecancelled.Crane controlcan be taken overby
anothertransmitter.
Operating Example
Transmitter1hastaken overthe crane. Transmitter2istobe given control.
1.Enterthe "Release"command on transmitter1.
2.Press the STOPswitchon transmitter1.

1.Turnrotary switchon the transmittertothe respectiveposition ("A" or"A+B"or
"B").
2.Enterthe ”Catch“command on the transmitter.
The transmitterwithcontroloverthe crane(s)retainsthe access tothe receiveruntil the
operatorhasissued the "Release"command.

Tandem Operation T2
The radiosystemconsistsof2transmittersand 2receiversfor2cranes.Both
transmittersaremastertransmittersand can controlthe cranesindividuallyorinparallel.
During normaloperation transmitter1controlscrane Aand transmitter2controlscrane B.
Inordertobe abletoswitchtocrane BorA+Battransmitter1,forexample,the
radiomatic®iONmust be removed fromtransmitter2and inserted intransmitter1.
The cranesareselected at the transmitterviaarotary switch:
A onlycrane A
A+B crane A+crane B
B onlycrane B
Operating Example: Controlofcrane A+Bviatransmitter1.
1.Press the STOPswitchon transmitter1and 2and removethe radiomatic®iONfrom
the transmitters.
2.Insert the radiomatic®iONfromtransmitter2intransmitter1.
Crane selection viatransmitter1isactivated.
3.Switchthe rotary switchoftransmitter1toA+B.
4.Unlock the STOPswitchoftransmitter1byturning, and press button
The radiosystemnowoperatesintandemmode.

4Maintenance
The radiocontrolsystemisvirtuallymaintenance-free.The following points,however,
shouldbe taken intoconsideration:
Ø Ensurethat the STOPswitchworkssmoothly.
Contaminantsofanykind can reduceorfullyblock the switchfunction.
Ø Inspect the rubberbellowsofthe operating elementsregularlyforleak-tightness.
Replaceimmediatelyifcracksappearsincethe penetration ofdirtand humiditymay
damage the function ofthe operating elements.
Ø Charge and discharge transmitterbatteriesregularly.
Ø Never useahigh-pressurecleanerorsteamjet cleanerto"clean"the transmitter.
Useasoft brushorclothonly!

manufacturer.Theyareexpertsand havethe necessary know-howand OEM
spareparts.
–Alwayssend bothtransmitter and receiverand encloseadetailed description of
the problem.
–Do not forget toencloseyouraddress and telephone numbersothatwecan get
intouchwithyou quicklyifnecessary.
