Documentation
The complete documentation for the TEDSdongle is available in electronic
format on the supplied CD−ROM. Modifications in the documentation are
reserved. The latest edition of the relevant documentation is available as a
download at http://www.hbm.com.
Intended use
The TEDSdongle is to be used only as an accessory for TEDS storage
electronics for transducers in conjunction with suitable measuring amplifiers.
Use for any purpose other than the above is deemed to be inappropriate.
In the interests of safety, the module must only be fitted and operated as
specified in the Mounting Instructions. It is also necessary to observe the
regulations for operating the transducer and the amplifier respectively. It is
also essential to comply with the legal and safety requirements for the
application concerned during use.
General dangers of failing to follow the safety instructions
The TEDSdongle corresponds to the state of the art and is failsafe.
The module may give rise to dangers if it is inappropriately installed and
operated by untrained personnel.
Any person instructed to carry out installation, commissioning, maintenance or
repair of the device must have read and understood the Operating Manual
and in particular the technical safety instructions.
Residual risks
The scope of supply and performance of the TEDSdongle covers only a small
area of measurement technology. In addition, equipment planners, installers
and operators should plan, implement and respond to the safety engineering
considerations of measurement technology in such a way as to minimize
remaining dangers. Prevailing regulations must be complied with at all times.
There must be reference to the remaining dangers connected with
measurement technology.
After making settings and carrying out activities that are passwordprotected,
you must make sure that any controls that may be connected remain in safe
condition until the switching performance of the amplifier system has been
tested.

Components marked with this symbol can be damaged beyond repair by
electrostatic discharge. Please observe the handling instructions for

Error messages should only be acknowledged once the cause of the error is
removed and no further danger exists.

Conversions and modifications
The TEDSdongle must not be modified from the design or safety engineering
point of view except with our express agreement. Any modification shall
exclude all liability on our part for any resultant damage.
In particular, any repair or soldering work on motherboards is prohibited.
Qualified personnel
Qualified persons means persons entrusted with the installation, fitting,
commissioning and operation of the product who possess the appropriate
qualifications for their function.
This device is only to be installed and used by qualified personnel, strictly in
accordance with the specifications and the safety rules and regulations.
This includes people who meet at least one of the three following
requirements:
•Knowledge of the safety concepts of automation technology is a
requirement and as project personnel, you must be familiar with these
concepts.
•As automation plant operating personnel, you have been instructed how to
handle the machinery and are familiar with the operation of the equipment
and technologies described in this documentation.
•As commissioning engineers or service engineers, you have successfully
completed the training to qualify you to repair the automation systems. You
are also authorized to activate, ground and label circuits and equipment in
accordance with safety engineering standards.
It is also essential to comply with the legal and safety requirements for the
application concerned during use. The same applies to the use of
accessories.

complies with the requirements of the relevant EC directives (the Declaration

Ferrite element
CAUTION
The TEDSdongle has been checked according to the valid EMC directive
89/336/EEC and meets equipment class B, industry standard.
If high ESD interference effects over 5 kV occur, connection failures between
the TEDSdongle and the connected PC may occur.
We recommend attaching the ferrite element, included in the scope of supply,
to the USB−PC cable (see also Chapter 3.3 in the Operating Manual).

Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Der TEDSDongle ist ausschließlich als Zubehör für TEDSSpeicherelektroni
ken für Messgrößenaufnehmer im Zusammenwirken mit geeigneten Messver
stärkern zu verwenden. Jeder darüber hinausgehende Gebrauch gilt als nicht
bestimmungsgemäß.
Zur Gewährleistung eines sicheren Betriebes muss das Modul nach den An
gaben in der Montageanleitung montiert und betrieben werden, ferner müssen
auch die jeweiligen Bedienvorschriften des Messgrößenaufnehmers und des
Messverstärkers beachtet werden. Bei der Verwendung sind zusätzlich die für
den jeweiligen Anwendungsfall erforderlichen Rechtsund Sicherheitsvor
schriften zu beachten.
Allgemeine Gefahren bei Nichtbeachten der Sicherheitshinweise
Der TEDSDongle entspricht dem Stand der Technik und ist betriebssicher.
Von dem Modul können Restgefahren ausgehen, wenn es von ungeschultem
Personal unsachgemäß eingesetzt und bedient wird.
Jede Person, die mit Aufstellung, Inbetriebnahme, Wartung oder Reparatur
des Gerätes beauftragt ist, muss die Bedienungsanleitung und insbesondere
die sicherheitstechnischen Hinweise gelesen und verstanden haben.
Restgefahren
Der Leistungs und Lieferumfang des TEDSdongles deckt nur einen Teilbe
reich der Messtechnik ab. Sicherheitstechnische Belange der Messtechnik
sind zusätzlich vom Anlagenplaner/Ausrüster/Betreiber so zu planen, zu reali
sieren und zu verantworten, dass Restgefahren minimiert werden. Jeweils
existierende Vorschriften sind zu beachten. Auf Restgefahren im Zusammen
hang mit der Messtechnik ist hinzuweisen.
Nach Einstellungen und Tätigkeiten, die mit Passworten geschützt sind, ist si
cherzustellen, dass evtl. angeschlossene Steuerungen in einem sicheren Zu
stand verbleiben, bis das Schaltverhalten des Messverstärkersystems geprüft
ist.

Sollten Restgefahren beim Arbeiten mit dem TEDSdongle auftreten, wird in
dieser Anleitung mit folgenden Symbolen darauf hingewiesen:

Bedeutung: Elektrostatisch gefährdete Bauelemente
Bauelemente, die mit diesem Symbol gekennzeichnet sind, können durch
elektrostatische Entladungen zerstört werden. Bitte beachten Sie dazu die
Handhabungsvorschriften für elektrostatisch gefährdete Bauelemente.
Symbole für Anwendungshinweise und nützliche Informationen:
Symbol: HINWEIS
Weist darauf hin, dass wichtige Informationen über das Produkt oder über die
Handhabung des Produktes gegeben werden.
Sicherheitsbewusstes Arbeiten
Fehlermeldungen dürfen nur quittiert werden, wenn die Ursache des Fehlers
beseitigt ist und keine Gefahr mehr existiert.

Umbauten und Veränderungen
Der TEDSdongle darf ohne unsere ausdrückliche Zustimmung weder kon
struktiv noch sicherheitstechnisch verändert werden. Jede Veränderung
schließt eine Haftung unsererseits für resultierende Schäden aus.
Insbesondere sind jegliche Reparaturen und Lötarbeiten an den Platinen un
tersagt.
Qualifiziertes Personal
Qualifizierte Personen sind Personen, die mit Aufstellung, Montage, Inbetrieb
setzung und Betrieb des Produktes vertraut sind und über die ihrer Tätigkeit
entsprechenden Qualifikationen verfügen.
Dieses Gerät ist nur von qualifiziertem Personal ausschließlich entsprechend
der technischen Daten in Zusammenhang mit den Sicherheitsbestimmungen
und Vorschriften einzusetzen bzw. zu verwenden.
Dazu zählen Personen, die mindestes eine der drei folgenden Voraussetzun
gen erfüllen:
•Die Sicherheitskonzepte der Automatisierungstechnik werden als bekannt
vorausgesetzt und sie sind als Projektpersonal damit vertraut.
•Als Bedienungspersonal der Automatisierungsanlagen sind sie im Umgang
mit den Anlagen unterwiesen und mit der Bedienung der in dieser Doku
mentation beschriebenen Geräte und Technologien vertraut.
•Als Inbetriebnehmer oder im Service eingesetzt haben sie eine Ausbildung
absolviert, die Sie zur Reparatur der Automatisierungsanlagen befähigt. Sie
haben zusätzlich die Berechtigung, Stromkreise und Geräte gemäß den
Normen der Sicherheitstechnik in Betrieb zu nehmen, zu erden und zu
kennzeichnen.
Bei der Verwendung sind zusätzlich die für den jeweiligen Anwendungsfall er
forderlichen Rechts−und Sicherheitsvorschriften zu beachten. Sinngemäß gilt
dies auch bei Verwendung von Zubehör.

Mit der CEKennzeichnung garantiert der Hersteller, dass sein Produkt den
Anforderungen der relevanten EGRichtlinien entspricht (die Konformitätser

Ferritelement
VORSICHT
Der TEDSdongle wurde gemäß der gültigen EMV−Richtlinien 89/336/EWG
geprüft und entspricht der Geräteklasse B, Industriestandard.
Bei sehr starken ESD−Störungseinflüssen über 5 kV kann es evtl. zum Ver
bindungsabbruch zwischen TEDSdongle und dem angeschlossenen PC kom
men.
Wir empfehlen die Anbringung des im Lieferumfang enthaltenen Ferritelemen
tes auf dem USB−Kabel zum PC (siehe auch Kap. 3.3 in der Bedienungsan
leitung).

L’ensemble de la documentation relative au TEDSdongle se trouve sous
forme électronique sur le CDROM fourni. Des modifications peuvent être
apportées à la documentation. La version la plus récente des différents
documents peut être téléchargée à la page http://www.hbm.com.
Utilisation conforme
Le TEDSdongle ne doit être utilisé qu’en tant qu’accessoire de systèmes
mémoires électroniques TEDS pour des capteurs utilisés en association avec
des amplificateurs appropriés. Toute autre utilisation est considérée comme
non conforme.
Pour garantir un fonctionnement de ce module en toute sécurité, celuici doit
être monté et utilisé conformément aux instructions de la notice de montage.
Il convient également de respecter les consignes d’utilisation du capteur et de
l’amplificateur. De plus, il convient, pour chaque cas particulier, de respecter
les règlements et consignes de sécurité correspondants.
Risques généraux en cas de nonrespect des consignes de sécurité
Le TEDSdongle est conforme au niveau de développement technologique
actuel et présente une parfaite sécurité de fonctionnement.
Le module peut présenter des dangers résiduels s’il est utilisé par du
personnel non qualifié sans tenir compte des consignes de sécurité.
Toute personne chargée de l’installation, de la mise en service, de la
maintenance ou de la réparation de l’appareil doit impérativement avoir lu et
compris le manuel d’emploi et notamment les informations relatives à la
sécurité.
Dangers résiduels
Les performances du TEDSdongle et l’étendue de la livraison ne couvrent
qu’une partie des techniques de mesure. La sécurité dans ce domaine doit
également être conçue, mise en uvre et prise en charge par l’ingénieur/le
constructeur/l’opérateur de manière à minimiser les dangers résiduels. Les
dispositions correspondantes en vigueur doivent être respectées. Il convient
d’attirer l’attention sur les dangers résiduels liés aux techniques de mesure.
Après avoir effectué des réglages ou toute autre opération protégée par mots
de passe, il faut s’assurer que les commandes éventuellement raccordées
restent sûres jusqu’au contrôle du comportement de commutation du système
amplificateur de mesure.

En présence de dangers résiduels lors de l’utilisation du TEDSdongle, ceuxci
sont signalés, dans le présent manuel, par les symboles suivants :
Symbole : AVERTISSEMENT
Signification : Situation dangereuse
Signale un risque potentiel qui, si les dispositions relatives à la sécurité ne
sont pas respectées, peut avoir pour conséquence de graves blessures
corporelles, voire la mort.
Symbole: ATTENTION
Signification : Situation éventuellement dangereuse
Signale un risque potentiel qui, si les dispositions relatives à la sécurité ne
sont pas respectées, pourrait avoir pour conséquence des dégâts matériels
et des blessures corporelles de gravité minime ou moyenne.
Symbole: ATTENTION
Signification : Composants sensibles aux décharges
électrostatiques
Les composants marqués de ce symbole peuvent être détruits par des
décharges électrostatiques. Respecter donc les consignes de manipulation
des composants sensibles aux décharges électrostatiques.
Symboles signalant des conseils de mise en uvre et des informations
utiles :
Symbole: REMARQUE
Signale que des informations importantes concernant le produit ou sa
manipulation sont fournies.
Travail en sécurité
Les messages d’erreur ne doivent être acquittés qu’une fois l’origine de
l’erreur éliminée et lorsqu’il n’y a plus de danger.

Transformations et modifications
Il est interdit de modifier le TEDSdongle sur le plan conceptuel ou celui de la
sécurité sans accord explicite de notre part. Nous ne pourrons en aucun cas
être tenus responsables des dommages qui résulteraient d’une modification
quelconque.
Il est notamment interdit de procéder soimême à toute réparation ou soudure
sur les circuits imprimés.
Personnel qualifié
Sont considérées comme personnel qualifié les personnes familiarisées avec
l’installation, le montage, la mise en service et l’exploitation du produit, et
disposant des qualifications correspondantes.
Cet appareil doit uniquement être manipulé par du personnel qualifié
conformément aux caractéristiques techniques ainsi qu’aux consignes de
sécurité et aux instructions.
En font partie les personnes remplissant au moins une des trois conditions
suivantes :
•Les concepts de sécurité de la technique d’automatisation sont supposés
être connus et ces personnes les connaissent en qualité de membres du
personnel chargés d’un certain projet.
•En qualité d’opérateur des installations d’automatisation, ces personnes
ont obtenu des instructions concernant le maniement des installations et
l’utilisation des appareils et technologies décrits dans le présent document
leur est familière.
•En tant que personnes chargées de la mise en service ou de la
maintenance, ces personnes disposent d’une formation les autorisant à
réparer les installations d’automatisation. Elles sont autorisées, en
complément, à mettre en service, mettre à la terre et marquer des circuits
électriques et appareils conformément aux normes de la technique de
sécurité.
De plus, il convient, pour chaque cas particulier, de respecter les règlements
et consignes de sécurité correspondants. Ceci s’applique également à
l’utilisation des accessoires.

Elément en ferrite
ATTENTION
Le TEDSdongle a été contrôlé selon les directives CEM 89/336/CEE en
vigueur et correspond à la classe d’appareils B, standard industriel.
En cas de fortes perturbations DES dépassant 5 kV, la liaison entre le
TEDSdongle et le PC raccordé peut être interrompue.
Nous conseillons donc d’installer l’élément en ferrite fourni sur le câble USB
vers le PC (voir également le chapitre 3.3 du manuel d’emploi).
