Maintaining the Swing
At the beginning of each play season, adults should:
• Tighten all hardware.
• Checkallprotecvecoveringsonpipes,edges,and
corners. Replace if they are loose, cracked, or missing.
• Check all moving parts including the swing seat and
ropesforwear,rust,orotherdeterioraon.Ifdamage
isfound,disconnueuse.
• Check metal parts for rust. If found, sand and
repaintusinganon-lead-basedpaintmeengthe
requirements of 16 CFR 1303.
• Lubricate all metallic moving parts per
manufacturer’sinstrucons.
• If the swing is hung from a swing set frame, lubricate
allmetallicmovingpartsthatareaachedbya
metalconnecon.
• If the swing is hung from a tree branch, rake and
checkdepthofloose-llprotecvesurfacingmaterials
(suchasmulchorsand)topreventcompaconandto
maintain appropriate depth (minimum amount is 9").

Disposing of the Swing
To dispose of the swing, first disassemble it. Dispose of it in
suchawaythatnounreasonablehazardswillexistatthe
time that the swing is discarded.
