2. Always check your local building codes prior to
installation. This installation must comply with all
local, regional, state and national codes and
regulations.
3. Installation and repair should be done by a quali ied
service person. This appliance should also be
inspected annually by a quali ied service person. More
requent inspections/cleaning may be required due
to excessive lint rom carpeting, bedding materials,
etc. It is imperative that the control compartment,
burners and circulating air passageways o the
appliance be kept clean.
4. This is a vented decorative gas appliance. Do not
burn wood or other material in this appliance.
5. NEVER leave children unattended when there is a
ire burning in the appliance.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
6. This appliance may only use the approved venting
systems shown in these installation instructions.
Venting must not be connected to chimney lue
servicing a solid uel burning appliance or a gas uel
burning appliance.
7. NEVER use gasoline, gasoline-type lantern uel,
kerosene, charcoal lighter luid, or similar liquids in
this appliance. Keep any lammable liquids a sa e
distance rom the appliance.
8. While servicing this appliance, always shut o all
electricity and gas to the appliance. This will prevent
possible electrical shock or burns. Also, make sure
the appliance is completely cooled be ore servicing.
9. Do not use this appliance i any part has been under
water. Immediately call a quali ied service technician
to inspect the appliance and to replace any part o the
control system and any gas control which has been
under water.
0. Be sure to provide adequate clearances around the
air openings into the combustion chamber and
adequate accessibility clearances or servicing and
proper operation.

A. APPLIANCE SPECIFICATIONS
1. U.S. AND CANADA CERTIFICATION
The NANOV Series gas appliance has been tested in
accordance with the ANSI standard Z2 .88-2000 in
the United States, and the current CSA 2.33-2000 in
Canada, and has been listed by Underwriters
Laboratories Inc. or installation as described in this
manual. All components are UL, AGA, CGA or CSA
sa ety certi ied.
2. LOCAL CODES
This installation must con orm with local codes. In
the absence o local codes comply with the National
Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223. -latest edition, in the U.S.A.
and the CAN/CGA B 49 Installation Codes in Canada.
The NANOV Series gas appliance has been tested
and listed or use in manu actured housing (mobile
homes). These installation instructions con orm with
the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety
Standard, Title 24 CFR, Part 3280, or when such a
standard is not applicable, the standard or
Manufactured Home Installations, ANSI A225. .

3. GLASS SPECIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS
Heatilator gas appliances manu actured with
tempered glass may be installed in hazardous
locations such as bathtub enclosures as de ined by
the CPSC. The tempered glass has been tested and
certi ied to the requirements o ANSI Z97. - 984 and
CPSC 6 CFR 202. (Sa ety Glazing Certi ication
Council SGCC# 595 and 597. Architectural Testing,
Inc. Reports 02-3 9 9.0 and 02-3 9 7.0 .)
This statement is in compliance with SPCS 6 CFR
Section 20 .5 Certi ication and labeling
requirements which re ers to 5 USC 2063 stating
Such certi icate shall accompany the product or
shall otherwise be urnished to any distributor or
retailer to whom the product is delivered.
Some local building codes require the use o tempered
glass with permanent marking in such locations.
Glass meeting this requirement is available rom the
actory. Please contact your dealer or distributor to
order.

1. APPLIANCE LOCATIONS AND SPACE
REQUIREMENTS
Figure 1 illustrates a variety o ways the appliance
may be located in a room. The NANOV Series may be
installed directly on the loor or raised on a hearth.
These appliances are certi ied or installation in a
bedroom, bed/sitting room or in manu actured
housing (mobile homes) in the U.S. and Canada.
2. CLEARANCES
Figure 2 shows all clearances that must be
maintained around the appliance. See page 10 or
termination cap clearances.

Do not expose appliance to the elements (such as

C. FRAMING
Figure 3 shows a typical raming o this appliance using combustible materials. Figure 4 shows the mantel heights or
mantel projections. All required clearances to combustibles must be adhered to.

D. SETTING THE APPLIANCE
This appliance may be placed on a smooth combustible or noncombustible continuous, lat sur ace. When the appliance
is installed directly on carpeting, tile or other combustible material other than wood looring, the appliance shall be
installed on a metal or wood panel extending the ull width and depth o the appliance. Slide the appliance into position
and level the appliance rom side-to-side and ront-to-back. Shim with noncombustible material as necessary.
Secure the appliance by bending out the nailing langes on each side o the appliance and nail to raming. The nailing
langes have been positioned 5/8 inch back rom the ront o the appliance to allow the addition o drywall.
WARNING!
To prevent contact with sagging or loose insulation,
the appliance must not be installed against vapor
barriers or exposed insulation.

E. VENTING
WARNING - RISK OF FIRE!
This appliance may only use the direct vent
chimney system designed for use with the
appliance and must not be connected to a chimney
flue servicing a separate solid fuel or gas fuel
burning appliance.
WARNING - RISK OF FIRE!
If you have chosen horizontal termination, be sure
there are no future obstructions from trees,
bushes, snow drifts, etc.
CAUTION:
Provisions shall be made to provide adequate
combustion and ventilation air.

1. HORIZONTAL VENT TERMINATION
(USING SUPPLIED PIECES ONLY)
This kit is supplied with a standard vent kit that will
meet the majority o installations or this Heatilator
appliance. This kit consists o a 90° starter elbow, a
6-9 slip section, a wall shield, and a termination cap.
A typical installation using these parts is diagrammed,
along with the clearances to combustible materials
around the vent, in Figure 5. a. Vent Lengths
Various venting con igurations are shown in
Figures 6-9 rom which maximum vent lengths
can be determined.

WARNING - RISK OF FIRE!
Always maintain minimum air space clearances
or greater around the chimney system. See Figure
5. Do not pack air spaces with insulation or other
material.
WARNING!
The horizontal run of vent must have a ¼ rise for
every ft. of run towards the termination. Never
allow the vent to run downward. This could cause
high temperatures and may present a fire hazard.

Note: Horizontal runs will require the use o one
vent support (or plumbers tape) or every 3 o vent.
b. Assembling Vent Sections
Use only pipe supplied and listed or use with
this appliance. See page 4 or a description o
listed components. See Section 3 on page 13 or
instructions on assembling the vent sections.
WARNING!
The first 90° elbow on a top direct vent appliance
MUST be a NAVP90ST; this starter elbow includes
a deflector.

Always maintain minimum air space clearances or
greater around the chimney system. The flow of
combustion and ventilation air must not be
obstructed.
CAUTION:
A vinyl soffit shield (VSS2) should be installed if a
cap is within 30 of a vinyl soffit.

c. Installing the Interior Wall Shield (WS6)
Frame a hole in a combustible wall or an interior
wall shield, as shown in Figure 10, whenever a
wall is penetrated. This shield maintains
minimum clearances and prevents cold air
in iltration.
Secure the wall shield to the raming as shown
in Figures 11 and 12.
The termination cap height must meet all local
and national codes and not be easily blocked or
obstructed.
I the material being penetrated is o
noncombustible materials, a 9 diameter hole is
acceptable.
d. Termination
Vent termination must not be recessed in the wall or siding. Siding may be brought to the edge o the cap base.
Install the cap as shown in Figure 12. Cap pipe sections should overlap the vent pipe by 1½ inches. Caulk
outside edges o cap.
Local codes may require the installation o a shield (CS) which prevents the cap rom accidentally touching
anything or anyone.
Figure 13 illustrates cap locations prescribed by current ANSI Z273. and CAN/CGA-B 49 Installation Codes.

balcony - 12 inches (30 cm) minimum. *
BClearance to window or door that may be opened  10,000
BTUs or less, 6 inches (15 cm) minimum; 10,000-50,000
BTUs, 9 inches (23 cm) minimum; over 50,000 BTUs, 12
inches (30 cm) minimum. *

cm) minimum - recommended to prevent condensation on
window.

termination within a horizontal distance of 2 feet (60 cm)

JClearance to non-mechanical air supply inlet into building or
the combustion air inlet to any other appliance - 12 inches
(30 cm) minimum. *
KClearance to mechanical air supply inlet - 6 feet (1.8 m)
minimum. *
LClearance above a paved sidewal or paved driveway
located on public property - 7 feet (2.1m) minimum.
A vent may not terminate directly above a sidewal or paved
driveway which is located between two single family
dwellings and serves both dwellings.
MClearance under veranda, porch, dec or balcony - 12 inches
(30 cm) minimum. * Recommended 30 inches (76 cm) for
vinyl or plastic.
Only permitted if veranda, porch, dec or balcony is fully
open on a minimum of 2 sides beneath the floor. *
NVertical clearance between two horizontal termination caps
 12 inches (30 cm) minimum.
OHorizontal clearance between two horizontal termination
caps  12 inches (30 cm) minimum.
*As specified in CGA B149 Installation Codes
Note: Local codes or regulations may require different
clearances.

WARNING
In the U.S.: Vent system termination is NOT permitted in
screened porches. You must follow side wall, overhang
and ground clearances as stated in the instructions.
In Canada: Vent system termination is NOT permitted in
screened porches. Vent system termination is permitted in
porch areas with two or more sides open. You must follow
all side wall, overhang and ground clearances as stated in
the instructions.
