3. PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Sound system installations for commercial applications, while requiring more and
more versatility and high performance in terms of power and sound pressure,
have increasingly limited space. Helvia is well aware of these requirements and
oers a line of single-zone-mixer-amplies in standard ½ 19”rack unit format with
power ratings ranging from 30W to 240W, capable of operating on both 100V
and low impedance lines up to 2 ohms* with maximum stability. The HPMA -
where “P” stands for Pocket - integrates a mixer with 1 Combo Mic/Line input with
48V Phantom power, a front AUX input with stereo mini-jack plus a rear stereo
AUX RCA input, and a Multimedia Player with DAB+ and FM tuner, USB player
and BT; the level of each input is independently adjustable from the front panel.
The Class-D amplier modules integrate digital processing with limiter, over-
heat protection, fan control, DC-oset and in-current to ensure operation at any
high impedance audio level down to a minimum of 2 ohms* in complete safety.
HPMA-Play series ampliers can be rack mounted with the optional HPMA R1-Kit
mounting kit.
*2 ohms operation is provided only for 120W and 240W models; for 30W and
60W models the minimum limit is 4 ohms.

on page 15.
4. MIC, AUX and Media Player Volume Controls
Rotary knobs for adjusting volume level of selected channel.
5. Bass & Treble Controls
Tone controls provide attenuation of bass and treble response. The at position is
obtained when the knobs are set to middle position. Turn the knob clock wise to
raise tone level approximately +7.5dB for bass and+10 dB for treble; turn count-
er - clockwise to lower tone level by approximately -7.5 dB for bass and-10 dB for
treble.
6. Master Volume
Rotary knobs for adjusting master volume.
7. VU-Meter
There are 4 dierent color indicators. Starting from the left, the two green LEDs
indicate respectively that the output signal is -10dB and -4dB; the yellow LED
indicates a 0dB output signal; the red LED indicates a +6dB level.
Be careful when adjusting the volumes to ensure that only occasionally does the
red LED light up. Should the signal be so strong that all 4 indicators illuminate
steadily, keep in mind that the limiter intervenes to reduce the output signal.
CAUTION: Excessive output level causes overheating and may dam-
age the amplifier in the long run.

2. Power Switch
Switches amplier power ON or OFF.
WARNING: Ensure the Master Volume controls is set to minimum
when switching on and off.
3. Ground Connection Point
Connect this terminal to the earthing system for safety reasons and to avoid
problems in case of short circuits or amplier malfunctions.
4.1 Amplier Output (HPMA-30/60 PLAY)
Audio outputs for low impedance (4Ω) and Hi-Z (100V) speakers. Use the DIP
switch located in the rear next to microphone input - point 8 in section “4.3. Rear
panel” on page 11 - to enable amplier’s output type suitable for your instal-
lation. Only one output can be used at a time. Especially for small background
music systems, we recommend using 4Ω output in order to perform the best
audio quality and frequency reproduction. Low Z output allows connecting in
parallel 4x16Ω or 2x8Ω loudspeakers. Amplier’s 4Ω output is designed without
output transformer and has 20Hz-20kHz frequency response to ensure the best
possible audio quality for background.
4.2 Amplier Output (HPMA-120/240 PLAY)
Audio outputs for low impedance (2Ω) and Hi-Z (100V) speakers. Be sure that
correct speaker output is enabled by using the DIP switch located in the rear next
to the microphone input - point 8 in section “4.3. Rear panel” on page 11 - to
enable amplier’s output type suitable for your installation Only one output can
be used at a time. Especially for small background music systems, we recom-
mend using 2Ω output in order to perform the best audio quality and frequency
reproduction. Low Z output allows connecting in parallel 8x16Ω loudspeakers or
4x8Ω loudspeakers. Amplier’s 2Ω output is designed without output transformer
and has traditional 20Hz-20kHz frequency response to ensure the best possible
audio quality for background.
WARNING: Pay attention to wiring on low-Z output! Please use a
minimum of 1.5mm² cables to connect speakers to a short distance.
Depending on audio line length, cable diameter must be increased in
order to minimize voltage drop on cable.

5. DC Power supply Input
The amplier can be powered using an external power source that provides
voltage from 24V to 36V DC power (see “6. SPECIFICATIONs” on page 22 for
details). This is useful for emergency situations or when AC mains power is not
available. Voltage in DC input aects the maximum amplier’s power. Please
check the table above. It shows the relation between the amplier’s output power
and the DC input voltage.
6. RCA Line Output
RCA stereo output for connecting device to external audio amplier or other
equipment.
7. RCA Aux Input
RCA stereo input for connecting external audio source. Once connected, control
Play/Pause, Skip forward and Skip backward functions from your device. Volume
is controlled with the “AUX” level control knob on the front panel, or from the
connected device.
8. Phantom Power, Input Priority and Output Impedance Selector
MIC input can provide 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. This
input can also have a priority over other inputs.
The Output Impedance selector sets up the amplier outputs depending on the
audio system type. 100V mode enables the output transformer and sets up the
amplier circuits to adjust and amplify audio optimized for 100V speaker lines. 4Ω
(HPMA-30/60) and 2Ω (HPMA-120/240) modes turn o the 100V output trans-
former, in order to connect speaker lines directly from the power amplier stage.
This mode ensures the best amplier performance and also enables 20Hz-20kHz
frequency reproduction in order to force low impedance loudspeakers to sound
as best as they can.

9. Microphone Input
XLR 1/4” Jack Combo connector for balanced or unbalanced microphone connec-
tion. Volume is controlled by the “Mic” level control knob on the front panel.
10. 24V Emergency Mute Connector
When 24V DC current is supplied to EMG MUTE input, all device outputs will be
muted. This is useful when using the device combined with external alarm sys-
tems.
11. FM Antenna Connector
Connect here the DAB+/FM antenna (included). You can also use this F-Type plug
to connect external antennas and increase the DAB+/FM reception sensitivity.
