Congratulations on an inspired purchase. You have acquired the best
value on an essential facet of your personal care; the water you drink.
Your Gio-Bella water alkalizer represents the very latest that High
Tech Holdings has to offer. Remember, High Tech Holdings is an
ISO9001/9002 company, which means they have achieved
exemplary quality control methods in the design and execution of the
Gio-Bella. What else does High Tech Holdings manufacturer besides
water alkalizers?? The answer is control circuitry for power
generation plants, where quality is a must. This quality is readily
apparent in fit and finish, and in the electrical components protected
in plastic blocks, the stainless steel fasteners that are used
throughout and in the local support that you will receive right here
when you need it.
This manual will show you how to install, operate, and maintain your
new Gio-Bella to help insure that you will get many years of useful
benefit from it.
WARNINGS
• Read manual prior to installation and operation.
• Verify with your health practitioner that prescribed medications
or existing conditions will not be affected by alkalinity.
• Your new Gio-Bella is intended as a point-of-use appliance
only. Serious damage may result from misuse of your Gio-
Bella. Never attach any plumbing or tubing to the flexible
dispensing hose.
• Your Gio-Bella will only operate on 110-120 VAC. Severe
damage will occur if used on incorrect line voltage.
• Never drink the acidic water by-product from your Gio-Bella
• The Gio-Bella is NOT intended for use on microbiologically
unsafe water.

3
• Follow manufacturer’s suggested uses for pH levels. The
consumption of water that is too alkaline may cause diarrhea or
other symptoms.
• No medical claims have been made nor implied by the
manufacturer. Always see your physician at the first sign of
illness. Manufacturer is not responsible for adverse effects that
may result the use, or misuse of ionized water.
• Never operate the Gio-Bella with hot water. Serious filter and
water cell damage will result.
• Never open the case of your Gio-Bella. There are no user-
serviceable components, aside from the filter and calcium
cartridges, which are accessed by removable covers.
• Maintain a clean and dry area around your Gio-Bella. Never
allow unit to sit in standing water.
• Notify your Gio-Bella dealer at the first sign of malfunction and
discontinue use immediately.

INSTALLATION, OPERATION, AND MAINTENANCE
1. Unpacking – Remove all contents from shipping box. Save
shipping box and packing materials in the event your Gio-Bella
would ever need reshipped. You should have the following
items included with your Gio-Bella:
• Hose kit with clamps
• Gio-Bella base unit
• Metal flex hose
• Diverter valve with extra adapters.
Appearance may vary with market.
• Hole template for wall mounting
• pH test kit
2. Installation – Our objective here is simply to attach the Gio-
Bella to a water source. This is easily done with the diverter
valve that is included. Once attached to a faucet, the diverter
literally redirects the water from the faucet to the hose that is
attached to the Gio-Bella. When not using the Gio-Bella, the
faucet may be used without any inconvenience whatsoever.
Just follow these simple steps:
• Decide on an installation location. For most this will be
next to the kitchen sink. The ultimate location should be

5
determined by convenience and easy access to both an
electrical outlet and water.
• Remove original faucet aerator. This is usually done
without tools by rotating counter-clockwise.
• Put the original aerator in a safe place and
install the diverter valve assembly in its place.
Note that if your faucet has threads on the
inside, there are 2 adapters included that can
be used. Position the diverter valve with the
barbed fitting pointing towards the Gio-Bella
• Next, take the hose kit and roughly gauge
sufficient length from the Gio-Bella water
INPUT, to the barbed fitting on the diverter valve. Please
allow for the lateral swing of the faucet. You should also
compensate for any extra if you will be adding a
Bluestone Group pre-filter.
• Once a sufficient length is determined, use a sharp pair of
scissors and cut the hose straight across in a single cut.
• Using a dab of Vaseline, or soap, lubricate the end of the
diverter valve barbed fitting. Select a
clamp from the hose kit and place over
the hose end. Next, firmly press the hose
onto the barbed fitting until the entire
fitting length is inside the hose.
• Slide the screw clamp onto the end of the
hose to the point where it is midway over where the
barbed fitting has penetrated. Tighten the screw clamp
firmly with a Phillips screwdriver. (Note, in some markets
spring clamps may be supplied instead.)
• If installing any of Bluestone Group’s prefilters:
o Sediment

o Carbon Block
o Combo carbon and scale inhibiter
o Fluoride/arsenic
cut the hose at the location where the filter
is to be placed and fasten hose from
diverter onto to the filter end marked “in”, or
“input from faucet.” Once again, secure
hose with a clamp. With sharp scissors, cut
a 2nd piece of hose sufficient in length to
reach from the “output” side of the prefilter,
to the “water input” port under the Gio-
Bella. Secure each of these connections
with clamps.
• If not installing a Bluestone
Group prefilter, hose length
should reach from the diverter
valve fitting to the input fitting
located under the Gio-Bella.
Secure this connection with a clamp.
• The last connection will be from the
“ACID OUTPUT” port under the Gio-Bella.
Simply cut a sufficient length of hose to
reach from the Gio-Bella, back to the sink
drain. Allow some extra length in the
event acid water is to be collected for
external or plant use. There is no need for
a clamp at this location since it will not be
pressurized.
• Finally, attach the flexible dispensing hose
to the rotating plastic turret on top of the
Gio-Bella. Rotate threaded end clockwise,
until finger-tight.

3. Before First Usage – There are a number of items to check
prior to turning on the water:
• Plug power cord into a 3-pronged 110 VAC outlet. There
will be a momentary illumination of all the
user panel LED’s.
• Open the filter door and verify that the filter
has not been dislodged from its mounting
point. A loose filter WILL leak. Rotate filter
with your thumb. It should revolve evenly
between its upper and lower connections.
4. First Usage - Here we will verify operation of the
Gio-Bella.
• Locate rear panel rocker-switch for main
power and press to the “ON” position.
• Turn on COLD water. (Do not turn on
hot water since warm or hot water will
damage the built in filter.)
• Pull out on the diverter valve button. This
will divert the water from the faucet,
through the hose that’s attached to the Gio-
Bella.
• As soon as the Gio-Bella’s water pressure
detector senses flow, the ionization
chamber will turn on automatically. The
user panel lights will illuminate, and the last
selected alkalinity level LED will glow. Within several
seconds, water will begin coming out of the metal
dispensing (flex) hose on top of the Gio-Bella. Note that
this dispensing hose may be swiveled nearly 360
degrees, and that it can also be bent to accommodate just
about any container.

• Allow water to run for several minutes. You may notice
that the water has a black tint, which is nothing more than
carbon particles washing out of the filter. This will
disappear after several seconds. After this initial system
flush, the Gio-Bella will be able to produce drinking water
instantly.
• Push in diverter button so that water, once again, exits
from the faucet, instead of the Gio-Bella. With the water
flow stopped, the Gio-Bella will automatically turn off.
5. pH Level Selection – Included with your Gio-Bella is a liquid test
kit for measuring pH. The importance of measuring the pH is so
that you know which of the 4 pH selections is the best one for
you and your family. Not every water source is going to yield
the same pH for each setting. The reason for this is that the
mineral content will vary from region to region, or even from
one town to the next. This is why pH measurement is so
important. You certainly would not want to consume water with
a pH that was either too alkaline, or acidic. Ideally, you should
use the selection that will give you between an 8 and 9 pH for
drinking water. To measure the pH, obtain a clear test tube or
juice glass and perform the following:
• With water running through the Gio-
Bella, experiment with the “Alkaline”
button. Note that each time it is
depressed, the next higher alkaline
level is reached, until the level #4,
after which, the lowest, or weakest
alkaline level is activated. Select the
lowest pH setting. Wait a couple
seconds, and then get a very small
sample (1-2 ounces) in the test tube
or glass.
• Unscrew cap from small dropper bottle
of test solution and carefully add just 2

drops to sample. CAUTION – pH TEST SOLUTION IS
TOXIC, DO NOT DRINK. KEEP TEST SOLUTION
OUT OF CHILDRENS REACH
• Gently mix sample until water turns a consistent color
and compare resultant hue to the reference color chart.
This should help you determine the pH closely enough
to determine the best setting to use. Repeat on the
higher settings to determine a pH value for each. You
may also wish to test the acid discharge pH. Follow
the advise of your medical professional regarding
the optimum pH to use. Refer to chart below for
typical pH usage:
6. Neutral Setting – This setting is to be used
when no ionization is desired. The resulting
dispensed water will be filtered, but not ionized.
The pH will be about the same as tap water.
There are not many situations when the “Neutral
Setting” will be used, except for those that
require a pH unchanged from tapwater, as
might be required with certain medications.
7. Acid Setting – The acid setting allows the user
to obtain acidic water from the dispensing flex-
hose. While in the “acid-mode” the polarity of
the Gio-Bella ionization chamber is reversed,
resulting in the reversal of pH from alkaline to acid. This is the
same thing that happens during the automatic cleaning cycle.
PH VALUE
USAGE
7.0 – 8.0 Alkaline
Drinking water for new user and pets
8.0 – 9.0 Alkaline
Drinking water for acclimated user
9.1 – 9.5 Alkaline
Occasional drinking water for acclimated user after exertion
9.0 – 10.0 Alkaline
Cooking – boiling vegetables, rice, pasta, use in dough for
bread and piecrusts. Great for coffee, tea, and reconstituting
fruit juices
3.0 – 4.0 Acid
External use as antiseptic or for washing fresh produce.
4.0 – 7.0 Acid
Various uses, including plant fertilizer or for cut flower
arrangements

10
Acid water may also be obtained from the acid discharge hose
while the Gio-Bella is producing alkaline water from the
dispensing hose. The acidity of the discharge water will be
determined by the alkaline setting in use.
8. Cleaning Cycle – The Gio-Bella has an automatic cleaning
cycle. During a clean cycle, the polarity is reversed in the
ionization chamber so that any minerals that are sticking to the
electrodes are “repelled away” instead of being “attracted to”
the electrode surfaces. The reason this is important is so that
there is no mineral build-up to eventually clog the ionization
chamber. Your Gio-Bella will clean automatically for 45
seconds, every 100 counts of the filter life indicator. For an
average family of 4, this amounts to once every 1.5 days. Never
attempt to defeat the clean cycle. As explained above, the
water exiting the dispensing hose during the clean cycle will be
acidic and should NOT be consumed. A tune will play during
the clean cycle and the “power” and “acid” LED’s will flash.
After 45 seconds, the Gio-Bella will resume normal operation.
9. Filter Life Indication – Your Gio-Bella has a filter life indicator
that counts backwards from “9999” to “0000.” Once “0000” is
reached, the “Replace-Filter” LED will light. The filter life meter
is simply an approximate indication of when to replace the filter
cartridge. Actual lifespan will vary depending on the water
supply, and whether there are any prefilters in use. Should you
notice an “off-taste” or a reduction in flow, you may need a new
filter sooner that what is indicated. By the same token, if you
have a prefilter and notice no flow reduction or “off-taste,” your
filter may last well beyond the filter-change reminders.
10. Filter Replacement Procedure – As with all HTH water
alkalizers, the Gio-Bella filter is extremely easy to replace. Just
follow these steps:
• Turn off water at faucet.
• Open filter access door located on the left side, facing
the back of the machine. Press in on the thumb detent,
swing door open, and remove.

11
• Placing two fingers at the top of filter cartridge, press
down until the filter top clears the nylon top fitting.
• Pull filter back and lift out of filter compartment.
• Note that there is a removable filter base
that will be reused with the new filter.
Gently remove this from the old filter
cartridge and set aside. Discard old filter.
• Unwrap new filter cartridge and locate
filter base.
• Place a small film of Vaseline (optional to preserve o-
rings) on the filter base o-rings and gently press on-to
filter bottom.
• Place filter/base assembly, base-first into filter
compartment. The filter base o-ring should fit into the
spring loaded pedestal receptacle.
• Press down on the filter cartridge
while guiding the filter top so that it
clears filter compartment opening.
• Push filter back far enough to allow
top-nylon fitting to seat into filter top
hole.
• Verify that new filter is fully seated by rotating
horizontally ¼ turn. Rotation should be centered
without any wobble.
• Turn water on and with filter door still removed, verify
that there are no leaks. With water running, press and
HOLD filter-life indicator reset button, until indicator
resets to “9999.”
Retain filter base

base first

12
• Replace filter door. Reorder new filter cartridge so that
you will have it when you need it.
11. Calcium Additive – Your Gio-Bella has
a small percolator basket to which a slow
dissolving calcium compound can be added.
After tap water runs through the filter, it flows
through this percolator basket, picking up
small amounts of calcium in doing so. This
calcium will then be ionized and dispensed
as a readily absorbable form of calcium in
solution with the ionized water. Each “charge” of calcium will
last about 6 months. Additional calcium may be purchased from
your Gio-Bella dealer. The use of this supplemental calcium is
optional and should not be used in place of any prescribed
calcium supplements. Check with your health care provider for
more information. CAUTION – DO NOT PUT ANY OTHER
COMPOUNDS OR MATERIALS IN THE CALCIUM BASKET.
SERIOUS ILLNESS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE GIO-BELLA
MAY OCCUR. ONLY USE THE CALCIUM COMPOUND
SUPPLIED BY YOUR GIO-BELLA DEALER.
12. Special Gio-Bella Functions – Your Gio-Bella has some
special functions that most users will not need to worry about
and that are accessed while the water is turned off. These
involve:
• Filter-life time adjustment – enables user to speed up
or slow down the filter life indicator. In areas of high
sedimentation, the user may want to speed-up the
indicator; or if a prefilter is used, the user may want to
slow down the filter life indicator. Gio-Bellas built for
the North American market are already set for the
maximum filter life selection.
• Acidic Button preset – enables user to determine
strength of acid water coming from the dispensing
hose when the “acid” button is pressed.
