Z3210 Wireless Adapter
Instruction Manual for Excel®Direct Input (HID function)
Introduction
Z3210ʼs Excel®Direct Input function allows you to input measurement values directly into Excel in the
same way as a wireless keyboard. By attaching the Z3210 V2.10 or later to Z3210 compatible devices and
enabling the Excel®Direct Input (HID function), you can easily input data to existing Excel forms. Please
read this instruction manual and check whether input is possible to the device (PC or tablet) before use.

Preparation
Before using this function, you need to enable the HID function of the Z3210 and configure the
Bluetooth®connection settings.
Keyboard layout settings and Excel settings are also required depending on your operating environment.
Please refer to Table 1 for the method of switching the HID function of the Z3210.
Keyboard layout settings are not required if the keyboard layout is equivalent to Japanese 109 keyboards
or US QWERTY (US101). Many countries, such as China, Korea, Taiwan and Middle East countries use a
US101 equivalent keyboards, and do not need to be set up, but it is necessary to be set up in France,
Germany, etc., because the keyboards are inequivalent to a US101 one.
Since the decimal point output is a period (.), not a comma (,), you may need to set Excel options
depending on a country.

(1) Turn on the power while holding down the [Fn]and [COMP].
(2) After “vEr” is displayed, press [0Ω ADJ]
(3) The firmware version can be comfirmed when “v1.0x” ↔“6031” is displayed
(4) Press the Power key to turn off the power.

How to check the firmware version of Z3210
The HID switching function of the Z3210 is available in V2.10 or later. You can check the firmware version
by following the steps below. If you wish to use the HID function with less than V2.10, please contact your
distributor or our nearest sales office.
1. Turn on the measuring instrument with Z3210 attached, and turn on the wireless communication
function. (Indicator lights up)
2. Open the device Bluetooth Settings.
Windows 10: From the shortcut [Windows] + [I],go to [Settings] - [Devices] - [Bluetooth].
iOS, iPadOS: Go to [Settings] -[Bluetooth]
Android™: Go to [Settings] -[Wireless & Network] -[Bluetooth] (depends on models)
3. Activate the deviceʼs Bluetooth connectivity.
4. Pair Z3210 with the device.
Windows 10: Go to [Add Bluetooth or another device] - [Bluetooth] - [Z3210...]
iOS, iPadOS: Tap [Z3210...] or [Accessories]
(It may be displayed as [Accessories] when connected for the first time.)
Android™: Tap [Z3210...]
5. [Z3210Vx.xx:model#serial number]is displayed. Confirm that “Vx.xx” is “V2.10” or later.
Connecting Z3210 to a device
Follow the steps below to connect your device to the Z3210 with the HID function enabled.
1. Turn on the measuring instrument with Z3210 attached, and turn on the wireless communication
function. (Indicator lights up)
(e.g.: Press [HOLD] and [MAX / MIN]simultaneously for at least one second so that CM4001 wireless
communication function is enabled.)
2. Open the device Bluetooth Settings.
Windows 10: From the shortcut [Windows] + [I],go to [Settings] - [Devices] - [Bluetooth].
iOS, iPadOS: Go to [Settings] -[Bluetooth]
Android™: Go to [Settings] -[Wireless & Network] -[Bluetooth] (depends on models)
3. Activate the deviceʼs Bluetooth connectivity.
4. Pair Z3210 with the device.
Windows 10: Go to [Add Bluetooth or another device] - [Bluetooth] - [Z3210...]
iOS, iPadOS: Tap [Z3210...] or [Accessories]
(It may be displayed as [Accessories] when connected for the first time.)
Android™: Tap [Z3210...]
When connected, indicator on the instrument blinks.

Keyboard Layout Settings for Windows 10
If you are not using a US101 keyboard equivalent or a Japanese 109 keyboard, follow the steps below.
1. Open [Windows Settings] from the shortcut [Windows] + [I].
2. Click [Time and Language] - [Region & language].
3. In [Languages], select the currently set default language (such as “Japanese”) and click [Options].
4. Click [Keyboard] -[Add a Keyboard].
(Or click [Hardware Keyboard Layout] - [Change Layout].)
5. Choosing a New Keyboard Layout. (US QWERTY)
The new layout is installed on Windows 10.
After the installation is completed, you can switch the keyboard layout with the keyboard shortcut
[Windows] + [Space].

iOS, iPadOS keyboard settings
Follow the procedure below to set up.
1. Select [Settings] - [General] - [Keyboard] on the device.
2. Turn off [Enable Caps Lock].

3. Turn off [Auto-Capitalization]in [Settings] - [General] - [Keyboard] - [Hardware Keyboard].
If your Z3210 is not paired, [Hardware Keyboard] will not appear. Please pair it first.
How to change the decimal point to comma (,)
It is not necessary for the US, Japanese or some other operating systems with decimal point using a period.
The decimal point output by Z3210 is a period (.). If the decimal point that is used by the operating system
is a comma (,), do one of the following two methods.
Method 1 (Excel settings)
In [Files] - [Options] - [Advanced], uncheck [Use system digit separators] and input period (.) for
[Decimal separator] and comma (,) for [Thousands separator].
Method 2 (How to change periods of data to commas, leaving the decimal point as a comma in
Excel setting)
1. Input all data in “Notepad” (Windows 10), etc.
2. Replace all periods with commas, copy the replaced data and paste them into Excel.
How to use
1. Device settings.
Make sure the keyboard is set to lowercase letters (Unlock CAPS).
2. Select a cell by tapping or clicking in Excel.
3. Press the instrumentʼs [HOLD] key (or use the function to hold the measurement value).
Numeric values and units will be transferred. Do not select another cell during data transfer.
If you cannot input, check your Excel settings (e.g. login to your Microsoft Office account).

Troubleshooting
The following symptoms have corrective actions, so please check them.
Symptoms Countermeasures
Bluetooth does not work with Android devices. In
order to use Bluetooth connection on Android
devices, you need to enable GPS function (location
information), please go to OS settings and enable
the Use location.
Z3210 is not found when pairing iOS with Z3210 for
the first time.
The paired instrument will be displayed differently.
[Accessories]will be displayed when Z3210 is not
paired. The last registered measuring instrument
name including Z3210 will be
displayed when
Z3210 has been paired. It will be displayed correctly
after pairing is completed.
GENNECT Cross is not available.
Is the instrument connected to the device using
Excel Direct Input function? When the HID function
is enabled, the measuring instrument cannot be
connected to the GENNECT Cross properly.
Please follow the steps below to reconnect the
measuring instrument to the GENNECT Cross.
1.
Delete the measuring instrument from the
Bluetooth settings of your device.
2. Disable the HID function of Z3210. For details,
please refer to the “Preparation” section of this
manual.
4.
Reconnect the measuring instrument in the
connection setting of GENNECT Cross.
Excel Direct Input
function of Z3210 cannot be
used.
Check the following items.
・Is the HID function enabled?
→ If not, enable the HID function. For details,
please refer to the “Preparation” section of
this manual.
・The instrument is not connected to the device.
→
Unpair the instrument and try to register it
again.
・Excel has not been initialized.
→ Make sure that Excel can be input.
・Excel is read-only mode.
→ Turn to editable mode.

Symptoms Countermeasures
I want to use both GENNECT Cross and Excel
Direct Input function of Z3210.
You cannot use at the same time. After deleting the
instrument from the Bluetooth setting of your
device, switch the HID function
ON/OFF to use
each function. For details on how to switch the HID
function, please refer to the “Preparation” section of
this manual.
Attempting to pair the HID with PIN displayed via
GENNECT Cross connection screen (Instrument
Settings screen).
When the HID function is enabled, it will not work
properly when GENNECT Cross is started.
Please follow the steps below.
1. Close GENNECT Cross.
2.
Delete the measuring instrument from the
Bluetooth settings of your device.
3. Disable the HID function of Z3210. For details,
please refer to the “Preparation” section of this
manual.
Cannot input with the software keyboard of the
connected device.
When the device is connected to the measuring
instrument by HID, the software keyboard may be
disabled depending on the device
settings. If
necessary, turn off the connected measuring
instrument.
PIN is displayed when the instrument is turned on
for a device that has already been paired.
Turn the instrument off and on again.
“Connected” remains unchanged on Windows 10ʼs
Bluetooth setting window.
Remove Bluetooth device on Windows 10 and try
pairing again.
“Paired” and “Connected” are displayed repeatedly
on Windows 10ʼs Bluetooth list.
Remove Bluetooth device on Windows 10 and try
pairing again.
If you try to pair multiple measuring instruments with
an iOS device
, the second unit and subsequent
units disappear from the list.
If you want to register multiple measuring
instruments subsequently, turn off and on the iOS
deviceʼs Bluetooth connectivity for each measuring
instrument and register.
Uppercase and lowercase letters in units are
reversed.
Unlock CAPS.
The input in Excel is late. There are lack characters.
In Excel, calculations and other operations are
performed when moving cells, which may slow
down the operation in some devices. If this
happens, it is a good idea to input everything into a
Tab-enabled Notepad (Windows 10) and copy and
paste it into Excel.

Symptoms Countermeasures
I want to use a comma (,) as the decimal separator
in Excel because I donʼt want to change Language
setting.
We recommend that you input
all the data in a
Notepad (Windows 10) that supports Tab input and
then replace all the periods with commas and copy
and paste it into Excel.
Cannot input the measurement values when using
saved Excel files.
Select the cell to input the measured values.
I want to use it in other applications other than
Excel.
Applications that do not have a special function
assigned to [Tab] may be usable. Please check
beforehand before use.
