Thank you for choosing an HK Instruments DPT-Flow Series-4 air
flow transmitter. The DPT-Flow Series-4 is intended for use in com-
mercial environments. The DPT-Flow measures air flow, velocity
and differential pressure. It is designed to be used in combination
with air flow measurement probes (i.e. FloXact) or with centrifugal
fans that provide differential pressure connections and K-values.
The DPT-Flow Series-4 air flow transmitter is comprised of the
DPT-Flow-4, DPT-Flow-8, DPT-Flow-20 and DPT-Flow-30 with
measurement ranges of 0–4 inWC, 0–8 inWC, 0–20 inWC and
0–30 inWC, respectively. All models come with display and manu-
al push-button auto-zero. The DPT-Flow is available with optional
and NIST standard calibration certificates.

To configure the output signals (0–10 V or 4–20 mA) for pressure
and flow (velocity or volume), install jumpers on the 3-pin set of
output jumpers for fow and pressure, located on the right side of
the open device (see schematics). Configuration options for the
jumpers are shown in figure 4. (Gray with white dots show that a

Selection convention used to input information into DPT-Flow
Entering information into the DPT-Flow is accomplished with three
(3) joysticks (see schematics). The joysticks are labeled as follows:
Joystick 1 – SELECT
Tilting Joystick 1 serves two functions:
A. Highlight submenus: when a submenu is available, tilting
joystick 1 will activate the submenu, causing it to blink.
B. Confirm selection: when the proper choice is shown on the
screen, tilting joystick 1 will select and store that value.
Joystick 2 – UP
Cycle up: Tilting joystick 2 will cycle up through the menu or
submenu choices. If you cycle past your desired choice, the
menu cycles through all the choices and return to the beginning
of the list.
Joystick 3 – DOWN
Cycle down: Tilting joystick 3 will cycle down through the menu
or submenu choices. If you cycle past your desired choice, the
menu cycles through all the choices and returns to the beginning
of the list.
STEP 4-0: ENTER THE CONFIGURATION MENU
Tilt joystick 1 (see schematics for the location of the joysticks 1, 2
and 3) for 2-5 seconds to enter the configuration menu.
STEP 4-1: SELECT MODE
Determine if the configuration is for:
Fan manufacturer where you will connect
tubing directly to the ports on the fan.
-or-
Probe where you will connect tubing to a probe.
1) Highlight submenu by tilting joystick 1. Fan
Mfg will begin blinking.
2) Cycle up or cycle down by using joystick 2 or
joystick 3, between the submenu choices.
3) Confirm selection by tilting joystick 1 when the
correct choice is shown on the display.

shown on the display. If the desired number is
passed, then tilt the opposite joystick to cycle
back within 1.25 seconds, after which the
display will begin to blink indicating that the
steps 2 and 3 must be repeated.

next configuration step in these installation instructions, go to
step 4-8.
STEP 4-19: SELECT K-VALUE
Each pre-configured fan manufacturer has its own equation,
K-value, K-value range, and equation units (flow and pressure), see
table below. By selecting a pre-configured fan manufacturer from
the menu, the correct configuration settings for that manufacturer
will automatically be configured into the DPT-Flow S-4.

STEP 4-18: OTHER FORMULA UNIT: FLOW
Continuing from the selection of OTHER: Formula
unit: pressure.
The formula unit for flow will be supplied by the
fan manufacturer or probe manufacturer. The
DPT-Flow can accept several options in the
flow units menu. If the flow unit supplied by the
manufacturer is different than menu options,
then convert the supplied value to one of the
listed.

The formula unit for pressure will be supplied by
the fan manufacturer or probe manufacturer. The
DPT-Flow can accept Pa or inWC. If the pressure
unit supplied by the manufacturer is different,
then convert the supplied value to Pa or inWC.

ZEROING THE DEVICE
To zero the device two options are available:
1) Manual Pushbutton zero point calibration
2) zero point calibration function
Does my transmitter have an function? See the product label.
If it shows -eZ in the model number, then you have the func-
tion.
1) Manual Pushbutton zero point calibration
NOTE: Supply voltage must be connected at least one hour prior to
zero point adjustment.
a) Disconnect both pressure tubes from the pressure ports labeled
+ and –.
b) Push down the zero button until the LED light (red) turns on and
the display reads “zeroing”. (see figure 3)
c) The zeroing of the device will proceed automatically. Zeroing is
complete when the LED turns off, and the display reads 0.
d) Reinstall the pressure tubes ensuring that the High pressure tube
is connected to the port labeled +, and the Low pressure tube is
connected to the port labeled −.
a) Disconnect both pressure tubes from the pressure ports labeled
+ and –.
b) Push down the zero button (joystick) until the LED light (red)
turns on and the display reads “zeroing” (display option only). (see
Figure 6)

2) function
If the device includes the optional circuit, no action is required.
(-eZ) is an autozero function in the form of an automatic zero-
ing circuit built into the PCB board. The function electronically
adjusts the transmitter zero at predetermined time intervals (every 10
minutes). The function eliminates all output signal drift due to thermal,
electronic or mechanical effects, as well as the need for technicians to
remove high and low pressure tubes when performing initial or peri-
odic transmitter zero point calibration. The adjustment takes 4
seconds after which the device returns to its normal measuring mode.
During the 4 second adjustment period, the output and display values
will freeze to the latest measured value.
Transmitters equipped with the are virtually maintenance free.
