DESCRIPTION
UWSR+ is a universal portable reader for RFID microchips with the purpose
of identifying animals.
The device can read a wide range of technologies: FDX-B ISO, HDX ISO,
FDX-A (FECAVA), Trovan and Avid encrypted. UWSR+ can also read and
display the Microchip Temperature™ when reading microchips with
temperature sensing

implants from Allflex or Destron Fearing.
In addition to its microchip reading functions, the UWSR+ scanner can
store up to 3000 IDs in its internal memory, each associated with a
time/date stamp, which can be transmitted to a personal computer via a
USB cable or wirelessly using Bluetooth®.
The UWSR+ is supplied with the Microchip Management Software which
enables user to download the reader’s memory, change the scanner
settings or update the UWSR+ firmware. It is available for download at
http://microchip.homeagain.com/ with the complete User Manual and
Software User Guide.

Microchip Temperature™ range is from 33ºC (91.4ºF) to 43ºC (109.4ºF). If the temperature is below
or above this range, it will display “TEMP BELOW RANGE” OR “TEMP ABOVE RANGE”.

GETTING STARTED
UWSR+ comes supplied with six AAA rechargeable NiMH batteries which
must be fully charged prior to use, as diagram below (step 1 through 3).
If preferred, six standard AAA alkaline

batteries can also be used and
should not be charged (follow only step 1).
Step 1 –Remove retention screw located on bottom back
of UWSR+. Place batteries according to polarity indicators.
Replace lid and screw.
Step 2 –Remove USB plug and attach cable to UWSR+.
Step 3 –Plug the adaptor into power outlet. The battery
level icon will flash while charging and stop flashing when
fully charged. A full charge will take approximately 3 hours.
DO NOT MIX RECHARGEABLE AND STANDARD BATTERIES
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHARGE STANDARD ALKALINE BATTERIES.
CHARGE THE BATTERIES INDOORS ONLY AND BETWEEN 0°C AND
40°C.
To extend battery life, charge unit at least every three months, if
reader is unused.

READING MICROCHIPS
When scanning for microchips PRESS AND HOLD BUTTON DOWN during
procedure. The reader will display “SEARCHING”.
Test reader by placing test chip provided on key chain. If microchip
number is not detected, consult USER MANUAL. Do not attach key chain
to reader.
If a microchip is detected, the number will appear on the display. If a
microchip is not detected it will display “NO ID FOUND”.
The following scanning patterns are recommended to locate microchips:

MICROCHIP MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
UWSR+ scanner comes with Microchip Management Software only for
Windows®operating system. Please refer to Microchip Management
Software User Guide to install the tool on your PC.
Note 2 –UWSR+ is compatible with iPhone®, iPad® and Android.
Refer to the User Manual for more information.
Microchip Management Software offers the capabilities to:
Change reader settings.
Download reader memory and export animal ID’s to Excel.
Use reader as a virtual keyboard.
Update reader firmware.
READER SETTINGS IN MICROCHIP MANAGEMENT
SOFTWARE
UWSR+ is delivered with Memory and Bluetooth®disabled.
These options can be enabled through the Microchip Management
Software, as in diagram below:

TROUBLESHOOTING
Microchip not detected: Confirm that it is being operated distant
from metal objects and computer equipment, including metal
objects, such as collar with metal objects and stainless steel tables.
Memory cannot be downloaded: Make sure memory is enabled in
reader settings (refer to Microchip Management Software User Guide
for more information).
Bluetooth not visible: Check if Bluetooth icon appears on the display.
If not, enable Bluetooth by using Microchip Management Software.
Bluetooth visible but not connectable: Make sure your reader is
configured to be visible and connectable in Microchip Management
Software (refer to Microchip Management Software User Guide for
more information).
Incorrect date/time: Connect reader to Microchip Management
Software. This will synchronize the date and time with the computer.
Note 3 –For other troubleshooting questions, consult user manual.
WARRANTY
The Universal WorldScan™ Reader Plus is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship, under normal use
and service for two (2) years from the day of shipment.
This warranty will not apply if adjustment, repair or parts replacement is required because of accident, neglect,
damage during transportation or causes other than ordinary use.
Manufacturer’s sole responsibility under this warranty shall be at its option, to either repair or replace any product which
fails during the warranty period. In no event shall Manufacturer be liable for any indirect or consequential damages or
loss of profit.
