1. Attach the belt:
Turning the platter over, connect the belt to the
turntable drive. Place the platter on the spindle
and spin the platter until the belt position holes
(the two larger holes nearest to the belt) are
showing the motor drive shaft in the top right
corner. When this is exposed, carefully stretch
the belt around the shaft, ensuring that the belt
does not twist. The platter should still spin freely,
but with slightly more resistance than before.
2. Attach headshell.
From the accessory pack, which is stored in
the packaging, remove the complete headshell
including cartridge and stylus, and place onto
the tonearm. This is a two handed operation,
one to hold the headshell and the other to hold
the tonearm locknut. As you insert the headshell
into the end of the tonearm, twist the locknut
anticlockwise and you will feel the headshell
being drawn into the locknut, take care not to
over-tighten as this will cause damage to the
headshell.
3. Attaching the counter weight.
Remove the stylus protector, do not touch the
stylus tip during the adjustment, and set the
cueing lever to the lower position. Release the
arm clamp and lift the tonearm from the arm
rest to free it. Rotate the counterweight until the
tonearm is approximately balanced horizontally
(oats freely). Refasten the tonearm with the arm
clamp, hold the counterweight stationary with
one hand and rotate only the stylus-pressure
ring to bring the number “0” of the ring into

alignment with the centre line on the tonearm
rear shaft. Rotate the counterweight clockwise
until the scale shows the value corresponding
to the pressure of the stylus used. The stylus
supplied with this system is rated at 3.5 grams.
It you use an alternative stylus/headshell
arrangement, then please follow the
manufacturer’s specied tracking weight.
4. Attach cover.
Position the protection cover over the hinges
found on the rear of the turntable, click these
into position. The cover should now freely close
onto the top of the turntable. It is advised that the
cover is lowered when not using the turntable.

25. Shorting plugs - due to the sensitivity of the
phono inputs, it is necessary to ground these
when not in use to avoid unecessary noise on
this channel.

The Mix2 will allow you connect two turntables
and two line input sources.
It is necessary to connect the Mix2 to an external
amplier for correct sound reproduction.
Study this setup diagram. Make sure all faders
are at “zero” and all devices are off. First,
connect all input sources and processors.
Next, connect your microphone and monitor
headphones. Finally, connect the stereo outputs
to the power amplier(s). Plug your mixer
into AC power. Now you are ready to switch
everything on.
IMPORTANT: When switching your audio
equipment on, please follow the following
procedure:
Always switch on your audio input sources
such as turntables or CD players rst, then
mixer and nally any ampliers. When
turning off, always reverse this operation by
turning off ampliers, then your mixer, and
then input devices.

PRODUCING SOUND
FROM THE TT1000M Having ensured that all connections to the Mix2 and TT1000s are correct, and that a record (vinyl) is
playing on the TT1000, you are now able to produce sound from the system.
Initially we suggest that the master level control (15, Pg 7) is adjusted to approximately 10 o’clock
(a third of its travel). This will give enough sound to be heard, but is not enough volume to damage
speakers should an accidental overload result.
Please ensure that the crossfader (5, Pg 7) is in the central position.
Ensure that the input selector switches (3, Pg 7) & (8, Pg 7) are set to phono.
By pushing up the Channel 1 fader (4, Pg 7), music should now be heard coming from the speakers.
By pulling down Channel 1 fader (4, Pg 7), and by pushing up channel 2 fader (9, Pg 7),
the sound of the other channel can now be heard.
The further the channel faders are pushed up, the louder the music source will be heard.
ADJUSTING THE
TONE OF THE MUSIC
The Mix2 is equipped with 2 band tone equalisation on each music channel. These controls can be
used for creative mixing once basic mixing techniques have been mastered.
Initially the tonal qualities of the music can be adjusted by rotating the bass and treble controls
anti-clockwise to decrease these frequencies, or clockwise to increase them.
The tone of the music is generally down to individual taste, however we would not recommend that
these controls are not used in the maximum position for prolonged lengths of time, especially at high
volumes, or damage to associated equipment will probably result.

10

USING THE CROSSFADER
Tip: If the beats are not matched the resulting sound can sometimes be a mismatch of beats that actually sounds dreadful; this
is what’s called in the trade 'Crashing the mix'
USING THE HEADPHONES
Important: Permanent hearing damage
can result from long-term exposure to
high music levels.
Care should be taken to avoid prolonged
exposure, or precautionary measures
should be taken to protect your hearing.
The Mix2 is equipped with a user replaceable crossfader (5, Pg 7).
The function of the crossfader is to allow a seamless mix from one music channel to the other by
moving the crossfader from one side to the other. If the crossfader is placed in its central position both
Ch 1 and 2 can be heard. If the crossfader is moved to the left, it will only allow sound from Ch 1 to be
heard through the speakers. If the channel 2 fader (9, Pg 7) is pushed up to attain some sound, with
the cross fader in this position, no sound from channel 2 can be heard.
If the crossfader is now moved from this left position over to the right position, the sound from channel
1 will reduce, and the sound from channel 2 will increase.
Conversely if the crossfader is now moved back to the left position, sound from channel 1 will reduce,
and sound from channel 2 will increase.
The crossfader can be used to great effect if beat matching is practised so that when the crossfader
is moved from left to right or vice-versa, the beats of the relative tunes are matched, and a uid mix
is achieved.
The Mix2 is tted with a progressive cue mix arrangement. The idea of a cue facility is to allow a new
track to be lined up or manipulated before it is required to be played. The volume of the headphones
is controlled by the level control (13, Pg 7). The Mix2 is tted with a powerful headphone amplier for
use in heavy volume environments, however please ensure that headphones are used at safe listening
levels.
Tip: Always ensure that either the relevant channel fader is down, or the crossfader is away from the channel that you wish to
cue in your headphones. Failure to do this will result in the music that you are cueing up in your headphones to be output from
the speakers on top of the track which you are playing.
The Mix2 allows you to listen to each channel individually before the music is required in your performance.
By turning the cue mix control (14, Pg 7) completely anti-clockwise, only music played in by channel 1
can be heard in the headphones. By turning the cue mix control (14, Pg 7) completely clockwise, only
the music in channel 2 can be heard in the headphones. By having the control somewhere between
these two positions you are able to mix the two music channels within the headphones only.
This is a progressive cue mix control, which allows you to sample the action of the crossfader within
your headphones prior to doing it for real. You will be able to determine if your beat matching is correct,
and will be able to assess the quality of your mix before broadcasting it.
GETTING GOING
CH-1
11

Having plugged the microphone in to the socket (1, Pg 7) on the front of the Mix 2,
it is now ready for use.
There is one control on the Mix2 which will effect the microphone:
Mic level control (11, Pg 7).
Ensure that the Mic level control (11, Pg 7) is completely off (turned completely anti-clockwise), and that
if the microphone is tted with a switch, ensure that this is pushed to on.
Talk softly into the mic and at the same time raise the microphone level control (11, Pg 7)
to a point where the desired level of sound is heard.
More or less volume from the microphone can be gained by adjusting this control respectively.
Once you have adjusted your microphone to a satisfactory working level, the tone of the microphone
can be adjusted in line with your requirements.
USING THE
MICROPHONE
GETTING GOING
Tip: Do not turn the level of the mic up to such a degree that feedback starts to occur. Feedback is an instantly recognisable howl
of high-pitched sound emanating from the speakers, and can be reduced by turning the mic level down. Moving the speakers
as far from the mic as possible can reduce feedback. Nobody likes feedback, so try and avoid it like the plague!
