INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
APPLICATION
These programmable load management thermostats
prov de energy sav ngs for heat ng and cool ng appl ca
t ons. The thermostats allow separate program sett ngs
for weekdays and Saturday and Sunday. In add t on,
these thermostats allow homeowners to part c pate n
spec al programs offered by publ c ut lt es such as T me-
of-Use Pr c ng and D rect Load Control. For these
programs an on-board commun cat ons module allows
the ut l ty to send s gnals to the thermostat.
The T7512A s for use n convent onal heat ng/cool ng
appl cat ons. It s powered through the ex st ng system
contactor (us ng power-steal ng technology). The
T7512B s for use n heat pump appl cat ons (two-stage
heat ng) and s powered by R and C w res from the
system transformer. See Table 1.
NOTE: The T7512A s compat ble only w th 60 Hz
systems.

A delay on make compressor protect on dev ce s not
requ red n systems controlled by th s thermostat. If the
dev ce s connected to the system compressor, t should
be removed. Because the dev ce nterferes w th the utl ty
commanded cycl ng (D rect Load Control) and the
SuperStat™ Thermostat prov des a m n mum of f ve
m nutes compressor off-t me.
The power steal ng model (T7512A) requ res a contactor
n the cool ng equ pment that draws 8 VA or more (some
equ pment does not meet th s requ rement). If the power
draw nto the equ pment cool ng term nal Y s less than 8
VA, the thermostat may not operate properly and the
follow ng can occur:
— Cool ng contactor cont nuously on.
— Contactor chatters.
— Cool ng contactor does not operate from the
thermostat.
— Thermostat resets cont nuously.
To provde the requred draw to the equpment, connect a
DP2030A contactor col between the C and Y termnals.

INSTALLATION
W en Installing t is Product...
1. Read these nstructons carefully. Falure to follow
the nstructons can damage the product or cause a
hazardous cond ton.
2. Check the ratngs g ven n the nstruct ons and on
the product to make sure the product s sutable for
your applcaton.
3. Make sure the nstaller s a traned, experenced
serv ce techncan.
4. After complet ng the nstallaton, use these nstruc
t ons to check out the product operat on.
Location
Locate the thermostat about 5 ft (1.5m) above the floor n
an area w th good a r c rculat on at average temperature.
Do not mount the thermostat where t can be affected by:
— drafts or dead spots beh nd doors and n corners.
— hot or cold a r ducts.
— concealed p pes and ch mneys.
— unheated (uncooled) areas such as an outs de wall
beh nd the thermostat.
Mount T ermostat Mounting Plate (Fig.1)
1. Pos t on the mount ng plate on the wall. Use a
sp rt level to make sure the mount ng plate s level.
2. Use a penc l to mark the two mount ng holes then
remove the mount ng plate from the wall.
3. If nstall ng the thermostat on a drywall surface, drll
3/16 n. holes n the wall as marked. If nstall ng the
thermostat on a f rmer mater al, such as plaster or
wood, dr ll 7/32 n. holes.
4. Insert the screw anchors (prov ded) and gently tap
the anchors nto the holes untl flush w th the wall.
5. Repos t on the mount ng plate over the holes,
carefully pull ng the thermostat w res through the
w r ng open ng ( f th s s a replacement appl cat on).
6. Loosely nsert two mount ng screws nto the
mount ng plate holes, and then t ghten.
7. Check that the mount ng plate rema ns level.
Wiring
A CAUTION
Equipment Damage Hazard.
D sconnect the power supply before w r ng.
All w r ng must comply w th all appl cable electr cal
codes, ord nances, and regulat ons. Follow the nstruc
t ons prov ded w th the controlled equ pment.
If th s s a new nstallat on, run the requ red number of
w res to the thermostat locat on. Refer to Fg. 3 and 4 for
typ cal w r ng d agrams.
1. Loosen the term nal screws on the back of the
thermostat and sl p each w re beneath ts match ng
term nal. See Fg. 2 for w r ng nsert on techn que.
2. T ghten the term nals securely.
3. Plug the hole n the wall w th nsulat on to help
prevent drafts from adversely affect ng thermostat
operat on.

IMPORTANT
Ba eries are required o main ain ime and da e
in he even of a power loss.
Use two AA alkal ne batter es; nonalkalne batter es do not
last as long. We recommend Energ zer® batteres.
1. Use a co n to remove the battery door (see Fg. 5).
2. Install the fresh batteres, as shown, makng sure the
post ve and negat ve term nals are or ented
correctly (see Fg. 6).
3. Replace the battery door.

Replace the batter es every two years to prevent loss of
t me and date n memory. Press down on the left ends of
the batteres to remove them.

Mount t e T ermostat
To mount the thermostat on the subbase, engage the tabs
at the top of the thermostat w th the mount ng plate (see
Fg. 7). Press the lower edge of the case to latch the
thermostat n place.

CHECKOUT AND SETTINGS
After the thermostat s mounted on the subbase, check out
operat on.
Thermostat Self-Test
Check the funct on of the thermostat d splay as follows:
1. Press the A ead, Back and Usage keys s multa
neously. The d splay should be blank.
2. Press the Warmer key. All dsplay segments should
lght. Fg. 8 llustrates all dsplay segments.

Set Installer Conf gurat on Opt ons
You can set fve conf gurat on tems on th s thermostat and
d splay the software vers on and system type of the
thermostat. Table 2 shows the tems that can be conf g
ured and vewed, the r use, the code d splayed to dentfy
each tem, the poss ble settngs for each tem and the
meanng of each sett ng.
To dsplay a conf gurat on tem to v ew or change ts
settng, proceed as follows:
1. Press the A ead, Back, and System keys s multa
neously. A blank screen s dsplayed.
2. Press the System key aga n to d splay the sett ng of
the f rst conf gurat on tem. Use the System key to
step through each conf gurat on tem.
3. When the conf gurat on tem to change s d splayed,
press the Usage key. Each t me the Usage key s
pressed, the next cho ce code for that opt on s
d splayed.
4. When the correct cho ce code for that confgurat on
tem s d splayed, press the System key. When
pressng the System key, t stores the currently
dsplayed cho ce and moves to the next conf gura
t on tem. After sett ng (or v ew ng) the conf gurat on
tem, press the Run Program key.

C eckout
Before leav ng the nstallaton, check the system operaton
w th the thermostat as follows:
A CAUTION
T ermostat Damage Hazard.
Do not check the heatng system operat on by
jumper ng the thermostat term nals, such as the
gas valve, zone valve, or ol burner control at the
pr mary control.
1. Check that the LCD s actve, ndcatng the thermo
stat s powered properly.
2. Press the System key untl HEAT s d splayed and
press the Fan key untl the FAN segment s no
longer dsplayed.
3. Press the Warmer key unt l the thermostat sett ng s
about 10°F (6°C) above room temperature. After a
short delay, the heat should start and the fan should
run. (The fan should come on mmed ately f the Fan
On Heat tem s confgured.)
4. Press the Cooler key untl the thermostat sett ng s
about10°F (6°C) below room temperature. The
heat ng equ pment should shut off.
5. Press the System key untl COOL s d splayed and
press the Fan key untl the FAN segment s no
longer dsplayed.
A CAUTION
Compressor Damage Hazard.
Do not operate the cool ng system when the
outs de temperature s below 50°F (10°C). See
compressor manufacturer nstruct ons for further
nformat on.
IMPORTANT
When he cooling se ing is changed, he
hermos a can delay up o five minu es before
urning on he air condi ioner o pro ec he
compressor. The five minu e delay is ex ended o
approxima ely 30 minu es while in ins aller mode.
6. Press the Cooler key unt l the thermostat sett ng s
about 10°F (6°C) below room temperature. The
coolng equ pment and fan should start.
7. Press the Warmer key untl the thermostat sett ng s
about 10°F (6°C) above room temperature. The
coolng equ pment and fan should stop.
8. Set the system control to OFF and leave the fan
control set at AUTO. The system and fan should
rema n off.
9. Set the system control to HEAT or COOL and leave
the fan control set at AUTO. The thermostat now
controls the heat ng or cool ng equpment, as
needed.

Display will not come on. • Check for proper HVAC power connect ons. If un t s a T7512A power steal ng

Temperature display will not
go lower t an 45° (7°C) or
ig er t an 88°F (31°C)
during programming.
• You have reached the temperature sett ng l mt. The sett ng range s 45°F to
88°F (7°C to 31 °C).
Temperature c ange occurs
at t e wrong times. • Check the program t mes for the per od n quest on. Be sure that AM and PM nd cat ons are correct. Make sure the current day and t me are correct.
Reprogram f necessary.
• Remember that t takes t me for the system to recover.
Heating does not come on. • Check that the system control on the thermostat s set to HEAT.
• Check the d splay. If SAVING s d splayed, you are n D rect Load Control mode
and the thermostat s under control of the utl ty. Heat ng does not come on untl
the D rect Load Control per od ends or you overr de D rect Load Control.
• If the temperature sett ng s h gher than the current temperature, and HEAT s
d splayed, troubleshoot the heat ng system.
Cooling does not come on. • Check that the system control on the thermostat s set to COOL.
• Check the system fuse or c rcu t breaker and replace or reset t, f necessary.
• Check the d splay. If SAVING s d splayed, you are n D rect Load Control mode
and the thermostat s under control of the utl ty. Cool ng w ll not come on unt l
the D rect Load Control per od ends or you overr de D rect Load Control.
• The thermostat has a bu lt- n t me delay on cool ng to protect the compressor.
Allow f ve to ten m nutes after chang ng the sett ng before the a r cond t oner
starts.
• If the temperature sett ng s lower than the current temperature and COOL s
d splayed, move the system sw tch from COOL to OFF for ten m nutes. After ten
mnutes, return the sw tch to the COOL post on. If the a r cond t oner comes on,
the compressor could have reached ts hgh l m t temperature protect on and
shut down. If the a r cond t oner does not come on after ten m nutes and COOL
s d splayed, troubleshoot the cool ng system.
T e ouse is too warm or
too cool. • Press the Present Setting key to check the current temperature settng.
• If desred, change the temperature sett ng. See User’s Gude.
• If homeowner subscr bes to T me-of-Use Prc ng, you m ght need to adjust the
offset temperatures to prov de a more comfortable temperature.

• Allow t me for the furnace or heat pump to heat up and the fan to come on before
check ng for heat at the regster.
