DrillManager ME
The HORSCH DrillManager ME is an electronic
control unit for drills and their components.
It regulates, monitors and controls all the con-
nected modules of the drill.
The DrillManager should only be used
after you have read the operating in-
structions and familiarised yourself with
its operation.
The applicable accident prevention regulations
and the other generally accepted rules in respect
of safety and occupational medicine are to be
complied with.
Description
The HORSCH DrillManager ME is a com-
plete system, in which, depending on how it is
equipped, the modules connected only will be
activated.
The fully-equipped DrillManager comprises the
following components:
Computer
Monitor
Modules, depending on the type of machine
and equipment, for:
One or two metering drives or one metering
drive and one liquid fertiliser control system.
Hydraulic control system for lifting, folding and
bout-marker control.
Half-width control system
Sensors for:
Fan
Driving speed (radar)
Low-level indicator (2 channels)
Terminal connection for operating signal
Switch for calibrating
Computer
All components und sensors are connected to
the computer and monitor via the cable har-
ness.
The computer communicates with the individual
components and sensors via a "bus" system. It
receives information, evaluates this, and dis-
plays the operating statuses and data on the
monitor.
Should the entered or setpoint values be ex-
ceeded or fallen short of, or should faults occur,
the monitor display is interrupted and the fault
displayed.
The relevant component will display the ex-
ceeded limit value is reached.
Computer
The computer is installed at an appropriate place
on the machine.
Do not clean computers with high pres-
sure hoses or direct jets of water.

Bin monitoring system
The seed/fertiliser bin, as well as bridging forma-
tion in the metering unit, can be monitored via
the cable for monitoring Bin 1 and Bin 2.
Distribution in a practical way depends on the
number of bins.
If only the seed and fertiliser bin are connected,
the seed bin is connected to Bin 1 and the fer-
tiliser bin to Bin 2.
If the bridge formation is monitored on the meter-
ing unit, this sensor should always be connected
to Bin 2.
This way, the driver knows that: in case of a "Bin
1" alarm, he can still drive up to the edge of the
field whereas he must stop immediately in case
of a "Bin 2" alarm due to bridge formation and
remedy the fault.
The number of inputs can be increased on both
cables by means of Y cables.
In case of an alarm, the sensor concerned can
then only be identified via the LED on the sen-
sor.
Cable harness, tractor
A cable, with monitor support for the power
supply to the tractor is also supplied with the
DrillManager.
This must be permanently installed in the tractor
during initial installation.
Install the support for the monitor at an appro-
priate place in the tractor cab. In doing so, the
support for the cable connection to the computer
must remain easily accessible.
The thick cable must be routed to the battery. It
must not chafe and the insulation must not be
damaged.
Only the two thick cables are used.
Cut off both thinner cables and do not
connect these.
Monitor
The monitor is fitted onto the preassembled
support and connected with the computer via
a cable.

The connections on the battery must have good
contact. Installation errors lead to voltage drops
and to indefinable fault alarms and failures.
The cables are never to be connected to other
plugs in the tractor cab.
In order to protect the power supply, install the
fuse (50 A) supplied in the positive lead near
the battery.

background.
In addition, the closed coulters are
not displayed when sowing.
If the machine is equipped with the hydraulic
bout-marker control system, when STOP tram-
line is activated, the symbol for the alternate-side
bout marker appears instead of the tramline +
symbol.
The side for the bout marker can
now be changed with this button.
Seed rate 100 %. If the seed rate
has been adjusted with the +% or
-% buttons, you can switch back to
the preset kg/ha seed rate again by
pressing the button once.
The seed rate can be adjusted
in several increments and reset
again with the +% or -% adjusting
buttons. The seed rate is shown in
the display in % above the seed
bin. The percentage increment
can be adjusted in the machine
data. Whether only the seed rate
or also the fertiliser quantity is to
be adjusted, can also be selected
there.
When at a standstill, but with the
sowing function switched on, the
metering unit runs for a preset time.
If the computer receives a speed
signal during this time, the compu-
ter takes over control.

tion the second time the button is pressed .
"Wet-ground" mode
In certain situations, e.g., if the machine sinks
into the ground in wet areas of the field, the
machine can be lifted with this function. The op-
erating signal is not interrupted and the tramline
does not switch on so the drill will continue to
seed with the drill raised.
Return to the normal sowing function by press-
ing the button again or by pressing the button
for the desired bout-marker function.
Bout-marker and hydraulic
control system
Menu image, second operating page - hydraulic

Half-width function
After the half-width function has
been selected, the two symbols for
left (1) and right (2) shutoff appear
in the machine configuration on the
second operating page.
Immediately a button is pressed to shut off a
half width, the half width concerned (3) flashes
in the graphic display until the sensor at the end
position sends a signal to the computer.
In the end position, the half width which has
been shut off is hidden.
The seed rate is reduced by half, the indication
of the seed rate in kg/ha remains the same, as
the working width has also been halved.
The entire working width is again available
immediately the same button is pressed once
more and the complete machine is again visible
in the display.
The signals for the two end positions are sent
from the motor to the computer. The signal for
the middle position is activated by the sensor
on the metering unit.

Calibration speed (cal. turns)?
The calibration speed can be selected with the
"Return" button and set with the + and - but-
tons.
60 revolutions per minute are preset. Under
normal conditions, this is adequate.
If working predominantly at high metering
speeds, the calibration speed should also be
increased, so that the metering cells are filled
more or less evenly.
Metering unit filled?
Sufficient seed must be put into the hopper for
calibration. However, the hopper should not be
completely filled, particularly in the case of small
seed, so that if the wrong roller is selected, the
roller can be changed more easily.
To allow precise calculation of the calibration
value, all cells in the roller should be filled when
beginning the calibration test.
To do this, press button (2); the roller revolves
as long as "Time forward" is indicated in the
menu "Configuration 3" or until the button is
pressed again.
Calibration
Calibration is performed from this menu.
Select the metering unit for seed or fertiliser
under "Rated value" and enter the desired rate
in kg/ha with the + and - buttons.
In the case of the version with double bin, each
metering unit must be calibrated individually.

18
Calibration test
For the "calibration test", the computer is pro-
vided with the calculating basis needed for
precise metering control.
As the value to be entered, it needs the weight
of the seed which will be metered out of the
metering unit during the calibration test.
Therefore, as much seed as possible should be
metered in order to keep measuring inaccura-
cies to a minimum.
Roller selection:
The appropriate roller must be selected and
installed prior to the calibration test. This de-
pends on the seed rate, the driving speed and
the working width of the drill.
The following charts show the minimum and
maximum seed rates with different working
widths and the available roller sizes with a driv-
ing speed of 5, 10 and 15 km/h.
Other roller sizes are available upon request for
special applications.
The setting charts have been based on 1 kg/litre.
The specific weight is to be taken into account
for all types of seed and, e.g., with a low specific
seed weight, a larger roller must be installed
accordingly.
Calibration
Depending on the machine, place a container or
the calibration sack under the metering unit.
To start, press the traffic-signal button (1).
The second page "Calibration" appears.
The process can be terminated with the ESC
button and calibration started again.
Press the "Return" button to return to the oper-
ating page.
Calibration:
Operate the calibration switch on the machine
until sufficient seed has been calibrated.
Weigh the calibrated seed.
The calibration value can be entered in the
computer after the metering unit has been
switched off.
Select "Cal. value" with the "Enter" button and
enter the weight with the + and - buttons.
The possible speed range is calculated and
indicated after the calibration weight has been
entered.
If the speed range indicated corresponds with
your desired sowing speed, sowing can com-
mence.
80660201_drillman_me_v12_0603_en.indb 18 05.04.2006 13:20:26

19
In the case of the double bin version, after the
second calibration test, only the speed range
which is within the possible speed range of both
metering units is indicated.
If the desired driving speed is not within the
range of the preset speed, a corresponding
larger or smaller roller must be selected and
installed.
Calibration must then be repeated.
Seed check
The seed check is a check for the calibration
test and for checking the metering accuracy
during sowing.
The same functions are executed for this as for
calibration.
The computer receives the calibrating data from
the last calibration test and, on the basis of the
revolutions of the new calibration test, calculates
a new calibration value.
Upon switching off the calibration switch, it
shows this value in kg under "Cal. value".
If the same seed is used as in the previous cali-
bration test, the weight of the new calibration test
must be identical to the setpoint value.
In case of deviations, correct the value
and repeat the check if necessary.
Results
Press the "i button" to open the
result display from the operating
page.
The individual output data is displayed here.
Depending on the metering unit, this data can
be completely deleted with the LH "CE" button,
or individually selected and reset to 0 with the
right "CE" button and the scroll button.
Return to sowing program. First
