Upgrading your C Class Disk Tray
Your upgrade kit contains the following:
• Disk tray I/O board
• Fan Assembly
• ESD kit
• Upgrade manual
NOTE: Installing this upgrade in your C Class system does not affect the regulatory and
safety classifications or approvals. The upgraded system meets all of the regulatory
and safety standards listed in Appendix A of your C Class Owner’s Guide.
The general steps are outlined as follows and should be performed in the
sequence listed. Refer to the individual sections of this guide for the actual
step-by-step procedures for upgrading the C Class disk tray.

Preparing Your Workstation
Before starting the upgrade, use the following procedure to prepare the
workstation:
CAUTION: Before you power down your system be sure to close applications and save
any work where applicable.
1Power off your workstation by pressing the power button on the front panel.
When you press the power button, the workstation automatically shuts down the
operating system before it powers off the system.
2Power down the system.
3Unplug the power cord of the system unit, the monitor, and any peripheral
devices from ac wall outlets.
4Unplug the power cord from the back of the system unit.
WARNING: To avoid electrical shock, make sure you unplug the power cable from
the wall outlet and the system unit before proceeding any further.
CAUTION: The internal components of your workstation are susceptible to mechanical and
electrostatic shock. To prevent such damage from occurring, observe the following
precautions during the installation procedure.
•Stand on a static-free mat (if available)
•Wearastatic-groundingwrist strap to ensure thatanyaccumulated electrostatic charge
discharges from your body to ground. Attach the static-grounding wrist strap by fol-
lowing the instructions on the package that contains the strap. Be sure to attach one
end of the strap to the system chassis.

5Remove the floor stand from the system unit, as shown in Figure 1.

6Lay the system unit on a flat surface, such as a table top.
7Attach a static-grounding wrist strap to bare metal on the back of the system unit.

Removing the Storage Tray
Perform the following procedure to remove the storage tray from the system
unit:
1Remove the storage tray retaining screw, as shown in Figure 2.
2If installed, remove any locking device from the storage tray security loop on the
rear of the system unit.
3Place your fingertips in the groove on the bottom of the storage tray bezel. See
Figure 2.

4Slide the storage tray completely out of the system unit.
CAUTION: Be sure to support the storage tray from underneath while sliding it out of
the system unit.

Perform the following procedure to remove the disk interconnect board from
the storage tray:
1Remove the two retaining screws from the disk interconnect board, as shown in
Figure 3.

2Disconnect any cables from the disk interconnect board.
3To remove the disk interconnect board, hold it by the edges and lift straight up,
as shown in Figure 3.

Board
Perform the following procedure to install the new fan assembly into the
storage tray. The steps in this procedure should be performed in the sequence
listed.
NOTE: There should be no cables routed under the fan assembly when this procedure is
completed.
1You may have to disconnect the I/O cables from your storage devices, depending
on the configuration of your disk tray. Figure 4 shows the location of the storage
devices in the storage tray and the routing of the storage device cabling.
Disconnect the cables from the storage devices as follows:
• Devices in positions 1 and 2 - No need to disconnect the I/O cable from the
device. Drape the cable over the bezel end of the storage tray.
• Devices in positions 3 and 4 - If there are no devices in positions 3 and 4, the
dressed cable should be draped over the bezel end of the storage tray. If there
are devices in positions 3 and/or 4, the daisy-chained I/O cable should be
disconnected from the device(s) and draped over the bezel end of the storage
tray.
• If there are other cables present, but not connected to devices, they should be
draped over the bezel end of the storage tray also.
• Disconnect the power cables from any devices in positions 3 and 4.

2Hook the fan assembly into the slots on the storage tray. See 1in Figure 5.
3Lay the fan assembly down onto the storage tray. See 2in Figure 5.
4If present, reconnect the floppy disk drive I/O cable to the disk interconnect
board. Ensure the floppy I/O cable is routed under devices in positions 3 and 4.
5Reconnect the human interface cable to its connector on the left side of the disk
interconnect board. Ensure the human interface cable is routed under devices in
positions 3 and 4.
6Reconnect the power cables to storage devices and disk interconnect board.
7Insertthetabonthenew disk interconnect board into the notch in the storage tray.

8Secure the disk interconnect board and fan assembly with the new thumb screws
received in the upgrade kit. See 4in Figure 5.
CAUTION: Be very careful not to pinch any cables or wires when securing the new disk
interconnect board.
9Connect the fan power cable to the two pin connector just below and to the left
of the power distribution connector. See 5in Figure 5.

10 Reconnect storage device I/O cables from positions 1 and 2, to the new disk
interconnect board, ensuring the cables are routed on top of the fan assembly,
alongside the fan itself. See Figure 6
