Desk-Side/Rack-Mount Conversion Process
This document provides information for converting your workstation from a desk-side system to
a rack-mounted system and from a rack-mount system to a desk-side system. You can find more

Desk Side to Rack Mount Conversion
To convert your desk-side system to a rack-mount system, you will need to order the rack-mount
kit (HP Part Number: A5993A) from your local HP Sales Representative. Rack-mount to desk-
side instructions are on the last page.
1. Unplug the workstation, remove from pedestal, remove bezel and vents. See Figure 1.

2. Remove the workstation’s plastic cosmetic covers from the workstation. See Figure 2. The
same process is used for both covers.

3. Follow the instructions on the subsequent pages for rack mounting your system:
Press snaps and push cover forward, and lift straight up.
!!Do not rotate cover
when removing!!

4. Plug-in the workstation that you just rack mounted and set the fan speed. To set the fan speed,
use the Boot Console Handler (bch) and follow this procedure.
A. Turn on the system and press the [Tab] key until the select display message appears.
Select the display frequency and resolution that are best for you.
B. Stop the boot process by press any key before the ten-second limit. This gets you to
the bch Main Menu. You will only need to do this if you have autoboot turned on;
otherwise, the system stops at the bch Main Menu. When the Main Menu prompt
appears, type:
Main Menu: Enter command > configuration
C. Enter the following command at the Configuration Menu prompt:
Configuration Menu: Enter command > FanChoice RackMount
D. Return to the Main Menu and enter this command at the prompt to continue booting:
Main Menu: Enter command > boot
During this procedure you removed the workstation’s plastic-skin covers, the bezel’s vent inserts,
installed the workstation in the rack, and set the workstation’s fan speed
Rack-Mount to Desk-Side Conversion
To convert your rack-mount system to a desk-side system, you will need to order the desk-side kit
(HP Part Number: A6036A) from your local HP Sales Representative.
1. Unplug the workstation and reverse the above procedure by completing steps 3, 2, and 1
(respectively).
2. Complete Step 4 above, but at the Configuration Menu prompt, type:
Configuration Menu: Enter command > FanChoice DeskSide
This completes the conversion of the rack-mount system to the desk-side system.
