connections.

1 Safety Information
● Only the designated professional technical personnel are allowed to install
and operate battery boxes.
● Read this document closely before operating battery boxes.
● When operating the equipment, comply with local laws and regulations.
● Do not modify default parameters unless required by the document or
approved by technical support engineers.
● To prevent electric shocks, use insulated tools and wear insulation gloves
when connecting cables.
● To prevent personal injury, wear protective shoes when moving battery boxes.
● In the case of re, use a dry powder extinguisher. Liquid extinguishant may
cause electric shocks.
● Do not touch uninsulated battery terminals. Otherwise, electric shocks may
occur.
● Using incorrect battery models may cause explosion. Dispose of used batteries
by following instructions.
● Cut o power supply and remove metal objects such as watches and rings
before maintenance.
● Do not transport the equipment by holding the front panel or wiring port
covers. Move the equipment in compliance with the corresponding
requirements. Figure 1-1 shows the transportation rules.

2 Appearance and Characteristics
2.1 Appearance
The model of the standard battery box for the 1 kVA UPS with long backup time is
ESS-36V12-9*2AHBPVBB (or ESS-36V12-9*2AHBPVBB-C, applicable only in China).
The model of the standard battery box for the 2 kVA UPS with long backup time is
ESS-72V12-9*2AHBPVBB (or ESS-72V12-9*2AHBPVBB-C, applicable only in China).
The model of the standard battery box for the 3 kVA UPS with long backup time is
ESS-96V12-9*2AHBPVBB01 (or ESS-96V12-9*2AHBPVBB01-C, applicable only in
China). The three models of battery boxes have similar appearances. This
document uses the standard battery box (ESS-96V12-9*2AHBPVBB01) for the 3
kVA UPS with long backup time as an example, as shown in Figure 2-1.

two strings of 9 Ah, 36 V DC built-in batteries

The output voltage of the battery box is 36 V DC.

2.2.2 2 kVA UPS Battery Box
Model
ESS-72V12-9*2AHBPVBB (or ESS-72V12-9*2AHBPVBB-C, applicable only in China):
two strings of 9 Ah, 72 V DC built-in batteries

Contains two battery strings. Each string contains six 9 Ah/12 V DC batteries. The
output voltage of the battery box is 72 V DC.

ESS-96V12-9*2AHBPVBB01 (or ESS-96V12-9*2AHBPVBB01-C, applicable only in
China): two strings of 9 Ah, 96 V DC built-in batteries
Interior
Contains two battery strings. Each string contains eight 9 Ah/12 V DC batteries.
The output voltage of the battery box is 96 V DC.

3 Installation Procedure
NO TICE
Use battery boxes of the same model for installation or replacement. Do not use
battery boxes of dierent models together. For details, see the nameplate on the
enclosure. The following gures are for reference only.

3.1 Unpacking and Checking
After a battery box is delivered onsite, unpack it and check that:
● If any damage is found on the battery box appearance, contact the carrier
immediately.
● Check that the battery box barcode (on the rear of the box, near the wiring
port) is consistent with that specied in the order. If not, contact the local
Huawei oce immediately.
● Do not transport the equipment by holding the front panel or wiring port
covers.
● Do not wear rings, watches, or other metal objects when moving the battery
box.
3.2 Installation Preparations

Get tools insulated to prevent electric shocks.

3.3 Procedure
A tower-mounted battery box does not need any additional installation procedure
but can be placed on a stable installation surface.

4 Connecting Battery Boxes to a UPS
4.1 Connecting Battery Boxes to a 1 kVA UPS
● A maximum of two ESS-36V12-9*2AHBPVBB (or ESS-36V12-9*2AHBPVBB-C,
applicable only in China) battery boxes can be connected in parallel.
● A battery box has two output ports that are connected in parallel and have
the same functions. If one of the output ports is used to connect to a UPS or
battery boxes connected in parallel, the other can be used to connect to an
external charger. Other spare ports on the battery box can also be used to
connect to the external charger.
● Before connecting cables, ensure that the battery box circuit breaker is OFF.

4.2 Connecting Battery Boxes to a 2 kVA UPS
● A maximum of two ESS-72V12-9*2AHBPVBB (or ESS-72V12-9*2AHBPVBB-C,
applicable only in China) battery boxes can be connected in parallel.
● A battery box has two output ports that are connected in parallel and have
the same functions. If one of the output ports is used to connect to a UPS or
battery boxes connected in parallel, the other can be used to connect to an

4.3 Connecting Battery Boxes to a 3 kVA UPS

C battery boxes can be connected in parallel.
● A battery box has two output ports that are connected in parallel and have
the same functions. If one of the output ports is used to connect to a UPS or
