1.2 Introduction
This Technical Manual contains important information
about the Husqvarna Automower®320 and 330X robotic
lawnmowers and their function, how to install them
and a number of installation examples. It also contains
information about special menu functions available for the
mower, the Autocheck Experience service program, repair
instructions and troubleshooting.
To make it easier to follow, the following structure is used:
• Text written in italics is a text that is shown on the
mower’s display or in the menus in the Autocheck
Experience service program.
• Words that are written in bold represent one of the
keys on the mower’s keypad or a key in the Autocheck
Experience service program.
• Words written in UPPERCASE and italics refer to the
position of the main switch and the different operating
modes available in the robotic lawnmower.

1.4 Software
The behaviour of the robotic lawnmower is controlled
by microprocessors and software. There is an MSW
program (Main SoftWare), an MMI program (Man Machine
Interface) and a SSW program (Subsystem SoftWare).
The main program (MSW) interprets the signals from the
sensors and controls the operation accordingly.
The MMI program checks the presentation of information
in the display and the inputting of, for example, keystrokes
on the keypad. The MMI program contains the texts that
are shown in the display.
The SSW program controls the blade motor, among other
functions.
This Technical Manual for the Automower®320 and 330X
covers versions 4.00.00 of the main program and 4.00.00
of the MMI program.
1.4.1 Ascertaining the program version
1. Set the main switch to position 1.
2. When the start page is displayed: Keep the 0key
pressed in for two seconds to go to Quick Check.
3. Select Info and press OK.
4. Select General and press OK.
5. The main program’s version is indicated on the
line that starts MSW ver:, e.g. 3.08.00. The MMI
program’s version is indicated on the line that
starts MMI ver:, e.g. 3.02.00. The SSW program’s
version is indicated on the line that starts SSW
ver:, e.g. 3.00.00.
6. Hold down the BACK button for two seconds
to exit Quick Check and return to the main menu.
It is important that the robotic lawnmower is
programmed with the latest software versions.
The Husqvarna Group is continuously improving
the mower’s behaviour and performance, which
results in new software versions.

1.5 Mowing technique
The mowing system is based on an efcient and energy
saving principle. Unlike many conventional mowers, the
robotic lawnmower cuts the grass instead of knocking
it off.
1.5.1 Mowing in different weather
conditions
Rain
We recommend you allow the robotic lawnmower to
mainly mow in dry weather to obtain the best possible
result. The robotic lawnmower can also mow in the
rain, however, wet grass easily sticks on the robotic
lawnmower and there is a greater risk of slipping
on steep slopes.
Thunder
If there is a risk of thunder, all connections to the
charging station must be disconnected. This is done
to avoid damage to the circuit board in the charging
station.
1.5.2 Blades
It is more important to have good condition and sharp
blades on a robotic lawnmower than on a conventional
mower. It is the principle of the cutting the grass instead
of knocking it off that makes this difference. The double
edged blades together with the technology that rotates
the blade disc in both directions increase the life of the
blades.
In order to keep the blades sharp for as long as possible
it is important to keep the lawn free from branches, small
stones and other objects.
Worn blades should not be ground. This is to prevent
the mowing system from becoming imbalanced.
Poor or dull blades can result in the grass bending
instead of being mown, the tops become frayed and the
mower may nd it difcult to mow a large working area.
All blades and screws must be replaced at the same
time to ensure the cutting system is balanced.
There are many different types of blades and they
are sold in various package sizes. Use only approved
original blades from the Husqvarna Group. From the
start of 2011 these are marked with a Husqvarna
symbol.

1.5.3 Irregular mowing pattern
The robotic lawnmower mows the lawn in an irregular
pattern. This gives a very even mowing result. In addition,
there are no distinctive tracks left in the lawn, which is
often the case when using a conventional lawn mower.
Spiral cutting
Sometimes the robotic lawnmower can change the
mowing pattern and start to mow in a spiral pattern
instead. This is called spiral cutting. The purpose of spiral
cutting is to quickly get the same length of grass over the
entire working area.
When the robotic lawnmower starts spiral cutting this
means it has perceived the lawn in an area to be longer
and/or thicker than before. The length/thickness of the
lawn in this area does not need to differ that much from
the other areas for the robotic lawnmower to start spiral
cutting. Sometimes the difference is hardly visible.
The robotic lawnmower always attempts to keep the
blade disc at an even speed. Different degrees of power
are used for this depending on the length/thickness of
the grass. The Automower®compares the instantaneous
power with an average power value from the latest hours
of mowing. This means that, when the robotic lawnmower
enters an area where the lawn is longer/thicker than
before, the instantaneous power will differ from the
average power and the Automower®will then start
spiral cutting.
The factory setting for Intensity is Medium for the
Automower®to begin spiral cutting.Intensity can be set
between Low/Mid/High using the Settings - Spiral cutting
menu. It is also possible to entirely shut down the spiral
cutting function in this menu. The Low setting means that
the robotic lawnmower begins spiral cutting less often.
Spiral cutting is only activated in the automatic
operating position, i.e. the Main area mode. Mowing in
the Secondary area mode does not allow the robotic
lawnmower to begin spiral cutting.
