Safety Guidelines
Keep the work area clear. Remove foreign objects prior to operation so as to
ensure safety.
Use the safety guard. The safety guard prevents Chips from spraying out and
causing cuts or burns.
Remove adjusting keys and wrenches before turning machine on.
Lock the machine head. Check if the machine head is safely locked prior to
operation.
Wear proper apparel. Do not use loose clothing or jewelry, which can get
caught in moving parts. Rubber soled footwear is recommended for best footing.
Always use safety glasses. Wear protective eye wear when operating,
servicing, or adjusting machinery.
Keep hands in sight. Do not put hands or fingers around, on, or below any
rotating cutting tools.
Keep children away . All visitors should be kept a safe distance from the work
area.
Never leave the machine running unattended. Turn the power off. Do not
leave the machine until it comes to a complete stop.
Secure work. Use clamps or a vise to hold work, when practical. It is safer than
using your hands, and it frees both hands to operate the machine.
Do not overreach. Failure to maintain proper working position can cause you to
fall into the machine or cause your clothing to get caught, pulling you into the
machine.
Do not use in a dangerous environment. Don’t use power tools in damp or
wet locations, or expose them or rain. Keep work area well lighted.
Do not repair or adjust the voltage inverter. Notify qualified personnel for
repairs or adjustment to prevent damage or personal injury.
Always disconnect the machine from the power source before servicing.

Thank you for purchasing MD-930 Variable Speed Drilling and Milling Machine. Please read this
manual carefully before operating the machine and keep the operating manual for later reference.
This machine is of fine quality and stable performance. It is equipped with drilling、milling and tapping
functions and can be operated for years given regular maintenance and proper usage. The machine’s
structure is driven by gear with high torque which in turn generates powerful spindle rotation.
Controlled by inverter, it is run with variable speed in 2 speed ranges for easy and safe speed
adjustment. The work table also has 2 axes –X and, for easy operation on the end milling、surface
cutting and boring. This machine also has an optional stand and coolant system to meet the user’s
various needs. In terms of material, the entire machine body including the base、table and column
are made by high-strength casting iron for higher durability.

2. Transporting the Machine
When transporting in its original own packaging, please
use a forklift truck or hand trolley. Find the proper
position to place machine then anchor it.
3. Getting to Know Your Machine
3.1. Control Panel
A. ON Switch –Starts the motor.
B. OFF Switch –Stops the motor. As the power still
exists, pressing ON restarts the machine.
C. Emergency Stop Switch –Stops the machine.
Turn the switch clockwise to unlock the switch
before starting the machine.
D. Forward/Reverse Selector –Selects the spindle
rotation for tool cutting direction or tapping.
E. Tachometer (optional) –Displays the rate of
spindle rotation in RPM.
F. Spindle Speed Control Knob –Changes the rate
spindle rotation.
G. Pump Switch –Starts the coolant flow for cutting.
H. Drilling/Tapping Selector –Selects the mode of
operation.
3.2. The Coolant Tank and Pump
The coolant tank holds coolant which pumped to the
work piece for cooling and lubricating while cutting.
Before the operation of a new machine, add coolant to
the coolant tank. When iron filings clog the screen,
cleaning will be required. Before cleaning, uncover the
lid and drain out the coolant.

3.3. The Machine and Head
The machine head can move up and down, and be
rotated 360°. It allows more flexibility in work piece
sizes.
1. Turn off machine.
2. Unlock the head handles (I–Fig. 2).
3. Use the riser handle (H, Fig.2.1) to raise or lower
the head. Firmly grip the head and push left or
right to rotate the head.
4. Lock the head handles (I–Fig. 2).
Please refer to the drawing H1 on the machine for clear
indication.
Warning! Failure to lock the head handles can result
in damage of the machine and personal injury.
3.4. Hi/Low Electronic Transmission
This machine uses an inverter to change speed rates.
There are two speed ranges that can be chosen with
the Electronic Transmission. The rotational speeds are
245~2000min-1 in high and 65~245min-1 in low. Use
the lever to shift between the rabbit (high) and the turtle
(low).
Note: Use the Emergency Stop Switch (C–Fig. 1) or the
OFF switch (B–Fig. 1) to shift between high and low.
Shifts should not be made while running to protect the
machine’s
gears.
3.5. Micro-Feed Handle Wheel
The Micro-feed hand wheel is use to make fine
adjustments while down feeding the spindle.

3.6. The Machine table and base
The machine base consists of a cross table and base
assembly. The machine base is used to hold the work
piece. The table is able to move forward and
backwards, left and right for adjusting and milling the
work piece. The work table is T-slotted to allow the use
of M14 or ½” screws. Please limit the maximum weight
of the workpiece to 60kgs.Overloading the table may
affect the accuracy of the table.
3.7. Warning Marking
4. Machine Installation
After unpacking, please follow the steps below to install
your machine.
4.1. Positioning the Machine
1. Check to see if the head is secure to the
column with 10mm hex wrench (I-Fig.2).
Warning:Failure to lock the machine head may result
in machine damage or personal injury.
2. Position a belt (with a load capacity about
400kgs) at point as marked J (Fig.3) to lift the
machine. Otherwise you could apply the 4 ring
bolts on the cross table and use them as lifting
points.
3. The head and the worktable of the machine
can be rotated 360o, so choose a location with
enough space and solid foundation.

4. Initial Cleaning
Machine is shipped with a rustproof oil coating.
Clean the rustproof oil coating from all
exposed metal surface. Then apply oil/grease.
4.2. Minimum Requirement for Housing the Machine
Please comply with the following terms to maximize the life and performance of the machine and its
components.
The Main voltage and frequency complying with the requirements for the machine’s motor.
Environment temperature from –10°C to +50°C.
Relative humidity not over 90%.
Altitude not over 1000m
4.3. Anchoring the Machine
1. Position the machine on a firm and level
concrete floor.
2. Maintain a minimum distance of 800mm from
the wall to rear of the machine.
3. Anchor the machine to the ground, as shown in
the diagram, using screws and expansion
plugs or sunken tie rods that connect through
holes in the base.
4. Ensure that it is sitting level.
4.4. Assembling Loose Parts
A. Apply coolant tank cover to tank.
B. Add the hand wheels to the cross table.
Secure in place by tighten the set screw with
an allen wrench.
C. Add the quill feed levers to the quill feed shaft
head and tighten down with a wrench.
D. Add Riser handle to the shaft. Secure in place
by tighten the set screw with an allen wrench.
E. Attach the coolant nozzle, if you purchase the
optional coolant system.

4.5. Electrical Connection of the Machine
Make sure whether the voltage of the acquired
machine is 220V/1 phase or (220V, 380V,
400V,440V)/3 phases prior to connection.
If the machine cannot be operated after wires have
been connected, please check the following items:
1. The Emergency switch is released.
2. The door of the electrical cabinet is properly
closed and switched ON (locked).
3. The safety guard is in the proper position
(closed).
4. Refer to the Table of Error Codes for the
inverter.
4.6. Coolant
If you purchase the optional coolant system, before
operating a new machine, add coolant to the coolant
tank by looking at the tank indicator label at the front of
tank, fill the coolant to at least half way through the
tank as shown Fig.4 (minimum 6 liters). User can
choose the one most suitable for their requirements.
For your reference SHELL LUTEM OIL ECO is highly
recommended. The ratio of oil and water is 50%
respectively. The minimum percentage of oil diluted in
water is 8~10%. Cleaning is required when iron filings
clog the screen (F,Fig.4) on the tank.
5. Machine Operation
5.1. Changing the spindle speed
Shift the gears while the machine is stopped. The
spindle speed has two speed ranges: Hi ranges from
245-2000min-1. Low ranges from 65~540min-1.
For a spindle RPM of 65~245 use low and turn the
lever to the turtle. For spindle RPM of 245~2000 use
high and turn the lever to the rabbit. Then spindle
speed can be adjusted to the proper cutting RPM by
using the control knob (F–fig.1).
Note: Use the Emergency Stop Switch (C–Fig. 1) or
the OFF switch (B–Fig. 1) to shift between high and
low. Shifts should not be made while running to
protect the machine’s gears.

5.2. Setting the Depth and Stop
1. Set the depth to zero by lowering the cutting
tools to the surface of the work piece.
2. Lock the quill position by using either the quill
lock handle (N–fig. 5) or the depth handle lock
knob (L–fig. 6).
3. Set the depth by rotating the depth stop knob
(P–fig. 5).
5.3. Lowering the spindle
Lowering the spindle lowers the drilling or cutting tool.
There are two methods for lowering the cutting tool.
One method is to use the down-feed lever arms.
The lever handles are for gross and quick movements.
The second method uses the micro-feed hand wheel
which handles fine and slow movements.
5.3.1. Using the lever arms
1. Grab the lever handle knob (B-Fig.6) and pull
down.
2. Remember not to release the levers unless the
quill is locked or the spindle has reached the
top position.
3. Use the lever handles (B-Fig.6) to control the
ascent when raising the spindle.
5.3.2. Using the lever arms
Use the micro-feed hand wheel to make precise
movement. Depth measurements can be monitored
precisely by observing the micro-adjusting indicator
behind the hand wheel. 1 revolution = 2.5mm or 1inch.
1. Simply grab the handle(C-fig.7)on the hand
wheel and turn.
2. Turn the hand wheel clockwise for down and
counter clockwise for up.
5.4. Locking the quill
The machine head is equipped with a quill lock to lock
the depth of the spindle. It is useful for setting the tool
depth for milling and drilling.
1. Simply rotate the quill lock handle (R-fig.8) until
tight.
2. Rotate counter clockwise to release the quill.
3. Leave the quill lock released when not need for
an operation.

5.5. The Machine table and base
The table is able to move forward and backwards, left
and right for adjusting and milling the work piece. Lock
both tables when drilling. Lock the table of the non-
milling axis when milling. The work table is T-slotted to
allow the use of M14 or ½” screws.
1. Adjust Y-axis for forward and backwards by
using hand wheel (J-fig.9). Adjust X-axis for
left and right by using hand wheel (J-fig.9) on
the two sides of table.
2. Lock the table using two lock levers (L–fig. 9)
for Y-axis, the lock handle (M-fig.9.1) for X-axis.
Turn clockwise to lock and counter-clockwise
to unlock.
3. Adjust the table stops (N–fig. 9) when setting
the feeding length. Turn counter-clockwise a
few thread and slid it horizontally and lock it in
prefer position.
5.6. Operation cycle
1. Check that the head is secure.
Warning! Failure to lock the head handles can result
in damage of the machine and personal injury.
2. Secure the work piece to the table by using a
vise or table blocks.
3. Use the table hand wheels (J-fig.9) to position
the work piece.
4. Lock the table using two lock levers (L–fig.9.2)
for Y-axis, the lock handle (M-fig.9.2) for X-axis.
Turn clockwise to lock and counter-clockwise
to unlock.
Suggested uses are as follows.
- Lock both tables when drilling.
- Lock the table of the non-milling axis when
milling.
5. Adjust the table stops (N–fig.9).
6. Start the machine, press button (A–fig. 1).
7. Select the transmission mode and spindle
speed (F–fig.1).
8. Select milling or tapping mode (H–fig.1) and
direction of rotation (D–fig.1).
5.6.1. In Milling Mode
9. Use the depth handle to lower the milling
tool to the work piece and lock into position
by rotating its depth lock knob (L-fig.6.1).
The depth stop is now fixed at zero.
10. Set the milling depth stop (M–fig. 5) to
desired depth.

11. Unlock the table, use the table lock levers
(K–fig. 6).
12. Use the table hand wheels to begin milling.
13. Lower the quill, use the micro-feed hand
wheel (O–fig. 5) and lock it by using the
quill lock handle (N–fig. 5). Any further
depth adjustment requires the unlocking of
the quill before using the micro-feed hand
wheel(O–fig. 5). To unlock rotate the lock
handle counter-clockwise and push in.
5.6.2. In Drilling Mode
9. Use the depth handle to bring the tip of the
drill bit to the surface of the work piece and
lock the quill with quill lock handle (N–fig.
5).
10. Set the drilling depth stop to required
depth.
11. Unlock the quill lock handle (N–fig.5) by
turning counter-clockwise and pushing it in.
12. Begin drilling by using the quill feed levers.
5.6.3. In Tapping Mode
In general, speeds for tapping require low transmission
(turtle) mode.
9. Use the depth handle to bring the tip of the
tapping bit to the surface of the work piece
and lock the quill lock handle.
10. Set the depth stop (M–fig.5) for tapping the
required depth.
11. Unlock the quill lock handle (N–fig.5) by
turning counter-clockwise and pushing in.
12. Begin tapping by using the quill feed
levers.
NOTE: While tapping, pause the spindle down feed at
the bottom of the operation to allow the breaking
and reversal of rotation of the spindle.
! Warning: After daily use, disconnect machine
from power source or press emergency stop
switch to shut off the power completely. Do not
keep the machine connected over 24 hours, it
may cause damage to the machine.

6. Adjusting the Machine
6.1. Removing the Tools from Spindle Bore
1. Disconnect machine from power supply.
2. Place a thin wood plank on the worktable to
protect the surface of the worktable.
3. Raise the worktable to about 250mm under
the bit.
4. Lower the spindle about 150mm and lock by
using the quill lock (N–fig.5) or the depth lock
knob (L–fig.6.1).
5. Place the drift key (Q–fig.10) into the
aperture (R–fig.10) of the quill and tap the
end of the drift key (Q–fig.10) with a hammer
until the bit or chuck arbor falls down.
6.2. Cleaning and Accessing the coolant
system
Cleaning is required when iron filling clog the screen
(F.Fig.11) on the tank.
1 Remove the pump by loosening the 4 screws
(G, Fig.11) at the 4 corner of pump bottom.
2 Remove and clean the net (F, Fig.11) on the
tank.
3 Pour out the coolant and iron filing in the
tank.
4 Reassemble the machine after cleaning.
6.3. The Return Spring
The spindle-return spring is the retraction mechanism
for the spindle. The spindle cap has slots along the
side. Over time, the spindle return may be slow or
lethargic. Adjust the spindle return mechanism so
that he spindle retracts properly.
1. Loosen the grip knob (W-Fig.11)
2. Turn the spring case (W1-Fig.11) counter-
clockwise a bit to tighten the spring.
3. Make the slot at the edge of spring case into
the pin at the bottom of spring to lock in
place.
4. Tighten the grip knob (W-Fig.11).
6.4. The Safety Guard
This clear plastic shield should be used whenever
conducting a drilling or tapping operation. Clean the
safety guard periodically to provide a clear view of
the work piece. Adjustments can be done as follows.
1. Lock the vertical height by adjusting the lever
screw (Y-Fig.11)
2. Use knob (X-Fig.11) to lock the horizontal
rotation and position of the safety chuck

guard. Loosen knob (X-Fig.11) to open the
safety chuck guard, when it opened that the
power will be shut off.
6.5. Adjusting the table slack
The machine is equipped with gib strip Z1 (Fig.13)
adjustment to compensate for wear and excess slack
on cross-table.
1. Adjust the gib strip by turning the gib strip
screw Z (Fig.13) with a large screwdriver for
excess slack. If the gib strip P (Fig.13) is to
tight, loosen the gib strip screw Z (Fig.13) by
turning it counter-clockwise.
2. Try to drag that the table should feel a slight
drag when moving the table.
7. Lubrication and Routine Maintenance
Apply oils to the driving parts of the machine prior to operation and supply coolant during operation
to ensure stability of cutters and the object being processed. Please refer to the lubrication as below
for more details about use oil. To extend your machine life, please make a maintenance schedule
daily, weekly, monthly or semi-annual and annual. Neglecting the machine maintenance will result in
premature wear and poor performance.
7.1. Lubrication
1 Lubricate –Column and Quill. Use machine
tool oil with light film of oil.
2 Grease –Rack on the column so that the
worktable can move up/down smoothly. Use
SAE 20 oil. To clean rack with kerosene
before applying oil.
3 Gear Oil –Pay attention to the oil gauge at the
mid left of the head. Never allow the level
below half of the gauge. Use oil type JUQUAN
HYDRALIC R68 or equivalent oil. ESSO
Sparten EP 68, Mobil Mobilgear 626 and Shell
Morlina 68 are equivalent.
3.1 Remove the screw 3/8PT (105, Fig.14) at the
bottom of the machine to drain the oil during
replacement.
3.2 Remove the name plate (Fig.15) on the left
side of the cover and the oil through the plastic
tube. Fill the oil at least half way through the
gauge at the left of the head. (minimum 2.5
liters).
7.2. Daily Maintenance
Make a general cleaning by removing dust and shavings from the machine.
Check that the shields and emergency stops are in good working order.

After daily use, disconnect machine from power source or press emergency stop switch to shut off
the power completely. Do not keep the machine connected over 24 hours, it may cause damage to
the machine.
7.3. Weekly Maintenance
Inspect if the screen is clogged by iron, thoroughly clean the machine including the coolant tank by
referring to 6.2.
Change the coolant water once a week, following stops in 6.2.
7.4. Monthly Maintenance
Lubricate machine column, spindle and rack devices.
Check that all screws on the motor, the pump and the guard are tight and secure on the right
position.
7.5. Semi-annual Maintenance
Change the oil in the gear head using oil specified or its equivalent oil described in 7.1. Proceed by
following 7.1-3 lubrication.
7.6. Annual Maintenance
Change the driving belt using type OPTI-belt 720x8M.
7.7. Oils for Lubrication Coolant
Considering the vast range of products in the market, the user can choose the one most suited to
their own requirements, using as reference the type SHELL LUTEM OIL ECO.
THE MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF OIL DILUTED IN WATER IS 8~10%.
7.8. Oil Disposal
Oil products must be disposed in a proper manner following local regulations.
7.9. Special Maintenance
Special maintenance operations must be carried out by skilled personnel. However, we advise
contacting dealer and/or importer the term special maintenance also covers the resetting of
protection and safety equipment and devices.
8. Troubleshooting
8.1. Troubleshooting the inverter
Prior to operating all electronic parts, the following aspects should be taken into consideration first
Note: Only eligible and qualified personnel can make electronic adjustments.
1. Disconnect machine from power supply.
2. Electronic parts are extremely sensitive, do not use hands or metal tools to remove or install
such parts.
3. As remaining voltage still exists in the capacitor even after the electric current has been cut
off, wait until the light disappears from the lighted display completely before proceeding with
any work to prevent any accidents or hazards from occurring.
4. Pay close attention to the electronic circuit board so that they are free from any defects.
5. Never connect the alternating current directly to the output connector (U/V/W) of the speed
adjuster. The electronic self-diagnosis program can notify you of situations like motor
overloading and too low or too high voltage, etc. When the program detects an error, the
machine will stop immediately and such error will be displayed on the inverter’s digital
display. Follow the solutions to correct any errors. Close the electrical cabinet and connect
machine to power supply.
