Introduction
Purpose
This Field Service Bulletin explains how to install a customer-supplied machine interface cable for accessing raw arc
voltage instead of using the internal voltage divider board.
Notice: Installation of the system at the installed site is subject to the approval of the Local Inspection Authorities (LIA).
Without approval of the LIA, modification of the factory installed wiring voids the safety test marks (for example, cCSAus,
CCC, CE, GOST, Ukr, C-tick) applied to the product in the Hypertherm factory, and the safety certificates provided by
Hypertherm become invalid after modification.

WARNING
Shock Hazard, Energy Hazard, and Fire Hazard
Connecting directly to the plasma circuit for access to raw arc voltage increases the risk of
shock hazard, energy hazard, and fire hazard in the event of a single fault. The output voltage
and the output current of the circuit are specified on the data plate.
Remove the power supply cover and component barrier
Connecting a cable to the power board to bypass the voltage divider and access raw arc voltage must be done by
trained service personnel.
1. Turn OFF the power, disconnect the power cord, and disconnect the gas supply.
2. Remove the screws from the power supply cover.
Note: Powermax65/85 system covers have 8 small screws (2) and 8 large screws (1). All 16 screws for
Powermax105/125 covers are the same size.
3. Lift the cover (3) off the power supply.
4. Remove the component barrier from the power-board side of the power supply. The component barrier is flexible
and can be bent slightly for removal.

Accessing raw arc voltage (Powermax65/85 systems)
To access raw arc voltage, you must install the strain relief (part number 008279) in kit number 228711. You must also
connect an 18 AWG, 2-wire, non-shielded cable similar to OLFLEX®190 (601802) in the length needed to extend
between the power supply and the CNC or other equipment plus approximately 60 cm (2 feet) of cable to connect
inside the power supply.
1. On the end of the cable to be connected inside the power supply, strip the outer jacket 7.6 cm (3 inches). Then
strip 1.3 cm (0.5 inch) of wire insulation off of each wire.
2. Crimp an M4 (#8) insulated ring terminal on the end of Wire #1 (negative lead) and an M6 (1/4 in.) insulated ring
terminal on the end of Wire #2 (positive lead).
3. Use a drill with a 19/32 drill bit to drill out the access point on the rear panel. Be careful not to damage internal
components.

4. Remove the fan shroud by pulling it straight off the fan housing.
5. Loosen the transformer below the lower-right corner of the fan by removing the two screws that secure the
transformer to the base of the power supply.

6. On the power board side of the power supply, remove the screws that secure the transformer wires to the power
board.
7. Carefully separate the transformer wires to provide access to the opening under the power board.
8. Connect Wire #1 to the red wire (-) terminal (J28 on CSA models, J29 on CE models). Refer to the figure below.
Put the ring connector for the red wire closest to the power board and put the ring connector for Wire #1 on top of
the red wire connector. Tighten the screw to 11.5 kg cm (10 in.-lbs).
9. Connect Wire #2 to the work lead (+) terminal (J26 on CSA models, J27 on CE models). Put the connector for
the work lead closest to the power board and put the ring connector for Wire #2 on top of the work lead ring
connector. Tighten the screw to 34.6 kg cm (30 in.-lbs).
10. Locate the opening under the power board (between the two transformer wires). Route the end of the cable through
the opening and push the cable into the fan side of the power supply.
Note: It is much easier to route the cable from the power board side than from the fan side. Do not use a
wire to “fish” the cable from the fan side because the wire can damage components.

11. From the fan side of the power supply, grasp the end of the cable. Carefully pull the entire length of the cable
through the opening while pushing the cable through the opening from the power board side. Leave enough cable
on the power board side to route the wires along the base of the power supply.
12. Route the cable through the strain relief nut, rear panel access point, strain relief, and strain relief retention nut. Pull
the cable through the strain relief leaving enough cable to rest in the bottom of the power supply without tension.
13. Secure the strain relief on the inside of the power supply using the strain relief nut. Hand tighten the nut and then
over-tighten slightly more.
14. Tighten the strain relief retention nut onto the strain relief to secure the cable.

15. Secure the transformer to the base of the power supply with the two screws. Tighten the screws to 23.0 kg cm
(20in.-lbs).
16. Push the fan shroud onto the fan housing.
17. Reconnect the two transformer wires to the power board. Tighten the screws to 34.6 kg cm (30 in.-lbs).
18. After you replace the component barrier and power supply cover in the sections that follow, you may connect the
other end of the cable to the equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Remember to observe polarity.
Note 1: The output of the internal voltage divider board is designed to prevent shock, energy and fire hazards,
and is intended to satisfy most codes and standards for external wiring outside the electrical enclosure.
All external wiring practices for an unprotected raw arc voltage should be reviewed and approved by
the local inspection authorities at the time of installation prior to operation and use. Raw arc voltage
wiring terminals and connections should not be exposed to accidental contact under normal and single
fault conditions. External wiring from an unprotected (that is, no voltage divider used in the power
source) raw arc voltage routed inside conduit between electrical enclosures will normally satisfy all
electrical codes and standards worldwide. Failure to address the hazards associated with live contact,
accessibility and single fault failures to this unprotected output can result in death or fire.
Note 2: A voltage divider board inside the CNC protects only the CNC and does NOT protect the external
interconnecting wiring between the power source and the CNC. Overcurrent protection may be
required to protect the user and/or machine in fault conditions.
Note 3: External wiring outside the electrical enclosure should be suitable for the installation and meet national
and local regulations (for example, NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 79, Canadian Electrical Code, CSA/CAN
E60974-1, IEC 60204-1, BS 7671) or other codes and/or standards applicable to the installed site
where the equipment will be operated.

5. Place the ring terminal of Wire #1 (negative lead) on top of the electrode wire ring terminal.
6. Secure the two wires to the power board using the previously removed screw. Tighten the screw to 23 kg cm
(20 in.-lbs).

7. Remove the bolt securing the work lead wire (J27) to the power board.
8. Place the ring terminal of Wire #2 (positive lead) on top of the work lead wire ring terminal.
9. Secure the two wires to the power board using the previously removed bolt. Tighten the bolt to 63.4 kg cm
(55 in.-lbs).
10. Locate the opening in the bottom of the center panel that the transformer wires pass through and push the end of
the cable through the opening.
11. From the fan side of the power supply, pull the entire length of the cable through the opening in the bottom of the
center panel. Leave enough cable on the power board side to route the wires along the base of the power supply.
12. Route the end of the cable through the strain relief nut, rear panel access point, strain relief, and strain relief
retention nut. Pull the cable through the strain relief leaving enough cable to rest in the bottom of the power supply
without tension.

14. Tighten the strain relief retention nut onto the strain relief to secure the cable.

Replace the component barrier
1. Carefully push in the sides (1) of the component barrier so that the barrier bends out slightly at the top and bottom
(2).
2. Slide the sides of the component barrier behind the power supply frame (3). Be careful to get the barrier between
the frame and the power wires on the right side of the power board (4).
3. Gently bend the top of the barrier at the perforation so that the top bends over the top of the power supply.
4. Slide the barrier down so that the bottom edge fits inside the power supply frame (5).

Replace the power supply cover
1. Place the cover (3) over the power supply. Be careful not to pinch any wires.
2. Install the 16 screws into the power supply cover. Tighten the screws to 17.3 kg cm (15 in.-lbs).
Note: Powermax65/85 system covers have 8 small screws (2) and 8 large screws (1). All 16 screws for
Powermax105/125 covers are the same size.

Introduction
Objet
Le présent bulletin de service sur le terrain décrit comment installer un câble d’interface de machine fourni par le client
afin d’accéder à la tension d’arc brute à l’aide du panneau diviseur de tension interne.
Avis: l’installation du système sur le site doit être approuvée par le service d’inspection local. Sans cette approbation,
la modification du câblage à l’usine annule les labels de sécurité (comme cCSAus, CCC, CE, GOST, Ukr ou C-tick)
décernés au produit à l’usine Hypertherm. Les certificats de sécurité fournis par Hypertherm seront également déclarés
nuls et non avenus après ladite modification.

AVERTISSEMENT
Danger d’électrocution, d’énergie et d’incendie
Le raccordement direct au circuit plasma pour accéder à la tension d’arc brute augmente le
risque d’électrocution, de problèmes d’énergie et d’incendie s’il y a la moindre défectuosité.
La tension de sortie et le courant de sortie du circuit sont indiqués sur la plaque signalétique.
Retrait du couvercle de la source de courant et de la barrière de composant
Le branchement d’un câble au panneau d’alimentation afin de contourner le diviseur de tension et accéder à la tension
d’arc brute doit être effectué par un technicien de maintenance qualifié.
1. Couper l’alimentation (OFF), débrancher le cordon d’alimentation et débrancher l’alimentation au gaz.
2. Retirer les vis du panneau protégeant la source de courant.
Note: les panneaux de protection du système Powermax65/85 comprennent huit petites vis (2) et huit
grosses vis (1). Les 16vis des panneaux du système Powermax105/125 sont de la même taille.
3. Retirer le couvercle (3) de la source de courant.
4. Retirer la barrière du côté du panneau d’alimentation de la source de courant. Cette barrière est flexible et peut être
pliée légèrement pour être enlevée.

Accès à la tension d’arc brute (systèmes Powermax65/85)
Afin d’accéder à la tension d’arc brute, il faut installer le serre-câble (nº de référence008279) contenu dans le nº
de kit228711. Il faut également brancher un câble à 2conducteurs 18AWG non blindé, similaire à OLFLEX®190
(OLFLEX190, numéro de référence 601802) d’une longueur suffisante pour relier la source d’alimentation au CNC
ou à d’autres équipements, plus environ 60cm de câble pour le branchement d’alimentation interne.
1. Sur l’extrémité du câble devant être branchée dans la source de courant, dénuder la gaine extérieure du fil sur
7,6cm. Dénuder ensuite 1,3cm d’isolant sur chaque fil.
2. Sertir une cosse ronde isolée nº8 (M4) à l’extrémité du fil nº1 (fil négatif) et une cosse ronde isolée de ¼po (M6)
à l’extrémité du fil nº2 (fil positif).
3. Utiliser une perceuse avec une mèche 19/32 pour percer le trou au point d’accès sur le panneau arrière. Faire
attention de n’endommager aucun composant.

4. Retirer le carénage de ventilation en le tirant directement du boîtier du ventilateur.
5. Desserrer le transformateur sous le coin inférieur droit du ventilateur en retirant les deuxvis fixant le transformateur
à la base de la source de courant.

6. Du côté du panneau d’alimentation de la source de courant, retirer les vis qui fixent les fils du transformateur au
panneau d’alimentation.
7. Séparer soigneusement les fils du transformateur pour accéder à l’ouverture sous le panneau d’alimentation.
8. Brancher le fil nº1 à la borne (–) du fil rouge (J28 sur les modèles CSA, J29 sur les modèles CE). Se reporter au
schéma ci-dessous. Placer le connecteur à collier pour le fil rouge le plus près possible du panneau d’alimentation
puis placer le connecteur pour le fil nº1 sur le connecteur du fil rouge. Serrer la vis à un couple de 11,5kg cm.
9. Le fil nº2 se branche à la borne (+) du câble de retour (J26 sur les modèles CSA, J27 sur les modèles CE). Placer
le connecteur pour le câble de retour le plus près possible du panneau d’alimentation puis placer le connecteur
à collier pour le fil nº2 sur le connecteur à collier du câble de retour. Serrer la vis à un couple de 34,6kg cm.
10. Situer l’ouverture sous le panneau d’alimentation (entre les deuxfils du transformateur). Acheminer l’extrémité
du câble dans l’ouverture puis pousser le câble dans le côté ventilateur de la source de courant.
Note: il est beaucoup plus facile d’acheminer le câble à partir du côté du panneau d’alimentation que du
côté ventilateur. Ne pas utiliser un autre fil pour guider le câble à partir du côté ventilateur, car il
pourrait endommager des composants.

11. À partir du côté ventilateur de la source de courant, saisir l’extrémité du câble. Tirer soigneusement pour faire
passer toute la longueur du câble à travers l’ouverture tout en poussant le câble dans l’ouverture du côté panneau
d’alimentation. Laisser suffisamment de câble du côté panneau d’alimentation pour acheminer les fils le long de la
base de la source de courant.
12. Passer le câble dans l’écrou du serre-câble, le point d’accès du panneau arrière, le serre-câble et l’écrou de
rétention du serre-câble. Tirer le câble dans le serre-câble, en laissant suffisamment de câble pour qu’il repose au
fond de la source de courant sans qu’il y ait de tension dans le câble.
13. Fixer le serre-câble sur l’intérieur de la source de courant à l’aide de l’écrou de rétention du serre-câble. Serrer à la
main, puis de nouveau un peu plus.
14. Serrer l’écrou de rétention du serre-câble sur le serre-câble afin de fixer le câble en place.

15. Fixer le transformateur à la base de la source de courant à l’aide des deuxvis. Serrer les vis à un couple de 23,0kg cm.
16. Pousser le carénage de ventilation sur le boîtier du ventilateur.
17. Reconnecter les deuxfils du transformateur au panneau d’alimentation. Serrer les vis à un couple de 34,6kg cm.
18. Après avoir remis en place la barrière de composant et le couvercle de la source de courant dans les sections
qui suivent, vous pouvez raccorder l’autre extrémité du câble à l’équipement conformément aux instructions du
fabricant.
Note1: la sortie du panneau diviseur de tension interne est conçue pour éviter tout risque de choc électrique, problème
d’énergie et d’incendie et respecte la plupart des codes et normes pour le câblage externe hors du coffret
électrique. Les directives relatives au câblage externe pour une tension d’arc brute non protégée doivent être
révisées et approuvées par le service d’inspection local au moment de l’installation et avant l’utilisation.
Les bornes de câblage et les connexions de la tension d’arc brute ne doivent pas être exposées à un contact
accidentel sous des conditions normales ou de défaut unique. Le câblage externe d’une tension d’arc brute non
protégée (aucun diviseur de tension dans la source de courant) passé à l’intérieur de tuyaux entre les coffrets
électriques respectera généralement tous les codes et normes électriques internationaux. Si les risques liés
à la tension électrique active sont ignorés, les problèmes d’accessibilité et de défaut unique de cette sortie
non protégée peuvent causer la mort ou un incendie.
Note2: un panneau diviseur de tension à l’intérieur de la CNC ne protège que la CNC et NE protège PAS le câblage
externe entre la source de courant et la CNC. Une protection de surintensité peut être nécessaire afin de
protéger l’utilisateur ou la machine durant des défaillances.
Note3: le câblage externe hors du coffret électrique doit être adapté à l’installation et respecter les codes locaux et
nationaux (NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 79, le Code canadien de l’électricité, CSA/CAN E60974-1, IEC 60204-1 et
BS 7671 par exemple) ou autres codes ou normes s’appliquant au site d’installation hébergeant l’équipement.
