Functions of the AVeL Link Player
The AVeL Link Player can be connected to a TV to play DVD-Videos as well as movies and other audio/video files
stored in a network computer.
Play videos, music and images stored in a computer!
You can play movies stored in a network computer.
Play DVDs and CDs!
You can play videos, music and images stored in various media
including video CDs, music CDs and recordable DVDs.
Play data from a USB equipment!
You can play videos, music and images stored in a USB
equipment such as USB-compatible hard disk or memory
card reader.

The following describes cautionary items that must be observed to prevent injury to the user or property damage, and to ensure the safe,
correct use of this product. Be sure to observe the items described below when using your AVeL Link Player. Note that some
instructions cover products in general, in addition to the AVeL Link Player manufactured by I-O DATA DEVICE.

Do not block the air vent.
The air vent is provided to prevent the temperature
inside the product from rising. Do not block the
air vent by placing an article on or against the air
vent. Doing so may cause the internal
temperature to rise, resulting in fire or breakdown.

Do not place an object inside the equipment.
Do not place a metal piece or other flammable object inside
the equipment.
Doing so may result in fire or electric shock.

Do not remove the case cover.
Many of the internal parts are charged with high
voltage. Touching these parts will put life in
danger.

Firmly insert the power plug.
Confirm that the power plug is free from attachment of dust,
and then insert the plug firmly all the way to the end.
An incompletely connected power plug may result in fire due
to poor contact.

Do not step on the product.
The product may tip over or break, resulting in

playing with the product.

Exercise special caution when using the product on the beach
or near water, or in any other outdoor location or near a

Disconnect the power plug to turn off
the power.
Pressing the POWER button alone will not
completely cut off the power supply. If the product
will not be used for a long period of time,
disconnect the power plug from the power socket.
Failure to do so may result in damage or breakdown
of the product in the event of lightening, etc.

Exercise caution when handling the cables.
Use the supplied cables and handle them with care by
observing the instructions given below. Inappropriate
handling may damage the cables, resulting in fire or electric
shock.

●Do not pull the cables. ●Do not compress the cables.
●Do not use the cables near a heating equipment.

Do not drop or apply impact on the product.
Do not drop the product, hit it against an object, or otherwise
apply impact on the product. Once the product receives
impact, fire or electric shock may result from subsequent

Connecting/disconnecting the power
plug.
●When connecting/disconnecting the power cable,
always do so by holding the plug. Pulling the
cable may cause the cable to partially break,
resulting in fire.
●When connecting/disconnecting the power plug
to/from the power socket, make sure your hands
are dry. Handling the power plug with wet hands
may result in electric shock.
●Do not place any article around the power socket,
because it will obstruct quick disconnection of
the power plug when necessary.

Do not place any object on the product.
Doing so may cause the product to damage, or result in fire
or electric shock. In particular, a flower vase, planting pot
or other container filled with liquid can cause fire or electric
shock if it tips over and spills the liquid.
If a foreign matter has entered the product, immediately turn
off the power switch and disconnect the power plug from the
power socket.

Moving to a cooler place
If the product is moved from a cold place to a
warm place, bedewing may occur on the exterior
surface of or inside the product. Continuing to
use the product with dews attached on the surface
or internal parts may cause fire or electric shock.
After moving the product, let it assimilate several
hours in the new environment without turning on
the power.

⇒Do not rub the eye. Immediately rinse the eye under clear running water, such as tap water, to wash away the battery
fluid completely, and then immediately seek medical attention.

completely. If there is a symptom of skin inflammation or injury, seek medical attention.

About the cables
●Wire the cables carefully so that they will not be accidentally pulled with a leg, etc. If the cables are pulled with an excessive
force, an injury may result or the connected equipment may sustain damage.
●Do not place a heavy object on the cables or wire them near a heating equipment. Doing so may tear the cable cover,
resulting in poor contact or other problem.

batteries.
Leaving the batteries in the product may cause
battery fluid to leak due to overdischarge, resulting
in injury or burns. Should battery fluid leak,
thoroughly clean the areas around the battery case
using a dry cloth, etc., and then install new
batteries.

Doing so may damage the power cable, resulting in fire or

Move the product after confirming that the power cable,
antenna wire and other connection cables have been
disconnected.

Observe the instructions given below regarding the handling of medium.
●When holding a medium directly, do not touch the shiny surface.
Secure the medium between fingers hooked at the outer rim or by
hooking one finger at the center hole and another at the outer rim.
●Do not attach a paper or sticker on a medium to ensure the medium will be played properly and also to prevent vibration or
spinning noise from increasing.
●Never use a cracked or warped medium. Do not put together broken
pieces of a medium using tape or adhesive. A medium spins at
high speed in the product, so playing a damaged medium can
create danger.
●Insert a medium into the drive after making absolutely sure that nothing is attached on the medium (DVD-R or CD-R
medium divider, etc.). Inserting a medium together with a divider, etc., may cause breakdown.

How to Care
●To remove soiling on the cabinet or operation panel, wipe the soiled area gently using a soft cloth.
●To remove stubborn stains, wipe with a cloth that has been moistened with water-diluted neutral detergent and wrung tightly, and
then remove excess liquid using a dry cloth. Do not use benzine, thinner or other solvent. Doing so may cause the surface material
to deteriorate or coating to peel.
●When using a chemically treated cleaning cloth, follow the instructions for use provided by the manufacturer.
Updating the Firmware
I-O DATA DEVICE, INC. releases update versions of the firmware as they become available.
We recommend that you use the latest firmware version, because it often provides functional improvements and enhancements.
* Refer to "Updating the Firmware" (p.67) in this manual.
In order to update the firmware, the network to which your AVeL Link Player is connected must be able to connect to the Internet.

●Detail Explanation of the Remote Controller
NO. Button Explanation
(1) POWER
Turn on/off the power to the AVeL Link Player. When this button is off, it means the AVeL Link Player
is in the standby mode. Turn off the POWER button on the AVeL Link Player if the Link Player will
not be used for a long period.
(2) Alphanumeric
input buttons
These buttons are used to enter text during setup. The mode will switch sequentially to CAPS LOCK
ON, NUM LOCK ON and CAPS LOCK OFF each time the SELECT button is pressed.
●CAPS LOCK ON mode (Entry of uppercase alphabets)
You can enter different characters by pressing each button quickly for an appropriate number of times,
just like you do with your mobile phone.

(4) TV MODE
Pressing this button will switch the output mode to Composite/S-Video or Japanese D4* temporarily.
The output mode selected by switching this button will not become effective the next time the power
is turned on. The video output setting you have made on the setup screen will be given priority.
* Supported D modes (480i, 480P, 720P, 1080i)

Normally these buttons are used to move the cursor. The cursor is displayed in blue border or crosshatch.
In the file mode, pressing each button during continuous list playback will play the next (or previous)
file.

Normally these buttons are used to move the cursor. The cursor is displayed in red border or crosshatch.
In the file mode, you can specify the playback position directly during data playback by using these
buttons.
(8) BACK Return to the last screen in the file mode.
(9) REV
●In the DVD mode, the reverse playback speed will change sequentially to x8, x16, x32 and x48
each time this button is pressed. The screen shows "REVERSE."
●In the file mode, the reverse playback speed will change sequentially to x1, x2, x3 and x4 each time
this button is pressed. The screen shows "FR."
●The speed is fixed to x8 when a music CD is played.
(10) PREV
Return to the previous chapter in the file currently played. In the DVD mode, pressing this button
will play the previous chapter (track). During continuous list playback in the file mode, pressing
this button will play the immediately preceding file in the list.
(11) SLOW
●In the DVD mode, the slow reverse speed will change sequentially to x1/2, x1/4 and x1/8 each time
this button is pressed. The screen shows "SLOW."
●This button is not used in the file mode.
* Pressing this button during pause will switch to the step mode.
* This function may not be supported depending on the format of the movie file being played.
(12) HOME In the file mode, pressing this button will display the home screen.
(13) ZOOM
●Pressing this button while a DVD is played will enlarge the center of the screen.
●In the file mode, this button will switch the display mode on the screen. One of the following three
modes can be specified:
- Fit To Screen
Image is displayed according to the monitor size. Since the aspect ratio is kept, image will
not be distorted. However, black streaks may be shown depending on the monitor.
- Full Screen
Image is displayed according to the monitor size. Since the aspect ratio is not kept, some
distortion may occur depending on the file, although image can be displayed over the entire
screen.
- Actual Size
Image is displayed in the actual size set in the file. If the image size of the file is larger than
the screen, the image will be adjusted to fit the screen.
(14) SUBTITLE If multiple subtitle options are provided for the AVI file or DVD to be played, this button can be used
to switch the selected subtitle option.
(15) URL/CODE In the file mode, pressing this button will display the URL entry screen.
(16) REPEAT
●In the DVD mode, pressing this button once will display "CHAPTER" on the screen and cause the
applicable chapter to be played repeatedly. Pressing the button again will display "TITLE" on the
screen and cause the applicable title to be played repeatedly.
Pressing the button yet again will display "CLEAR" on the screen and cancel the repeat mode.
●In the file mode, this button can be used to select whether to repeat the file currently played
(REPEAT ONE) or entire file list currently played (REPEAT ALL).

(17) ANGLE If multiple angle options are provided for the DVD to be played, this button can be used to switch the
selected angle option.
(18) TITLE Display the title menu of the DVD.
(19) EJECT Open/close the tray.
(20) SELECT
●Switch the input mode when entering text.
Three input modes are available, as described below.
The mode will switch sequentially every time this button is pressed.
- CAPS LOCK ON mode (Entry of uppercase alphabets)
The symbols and alphabets (uppercase) displayed on the remote controller are entered.
You can enter different characters by pressing each button quickly for an appropriate number of
times, just like you do with your cellular phone.
- NUM LOCK ON mode (Entry of numbers)
The numbers displayed on the remote controller are entered.
- CAPS LOCK OFF mode (Entry of lowercase alphabets)
The symbols and alphabets (lowercase) displayed on the remote controller are entered.
You can enter different characters by pressing each button quickly for an appropriate number of
times, just like you do with your mobile phone.
●When a video CD is being played, pressing this button will enable/disable PBC (PlayBack Control).
The PBC setting will return to the default once the AVeL Link Player is powered off.
(21) PLAY/PAUSE
●In the DVD mode, pressing this button will cancel pause and start playback. The original
playback speed will be restored if the disk is currently in reverse, forward or slow playback mode.
●In the file mode, pressing this button on the playback data selection screen will play all files
currently displayed (continuous playback).
(22) MUTE In both the DVD mode and file mode, pressing this button will mute the sound. Press this button if
you want to mute the sound temporarily. Pressing the button again will restore the sound.
(23) STOP Stop the playback.
(24) ENTER Press this button to confirm the selected/entered item at the cursor position.
(25) MENU In the DVD mode, pressing this button will display the main menu.
(26) FWD
●In the DVD mode, the playback speed will change sequentially to x8, x16, x32 and x48 each time
this button is pressed. The screen shows "FORWARD."
●In the file mode, the playback speed will change sequentially to x1, x2, x3 and x4 each time this
button is pressed. The screen shows "FF."
(27) NEXT
Play the next chapter in the file currently played.
●In the DVD mode, pressing this button will play the next chapter (track).
●During continuous list playback in the file mode, pressing this button will play the file immediately
after in the list.
(28) VOLUME (+)
Increase the volume of the data being played. Normally, the volume should be set to the default
level of 4.
* When the digital audio data is being played, this function supports only for Linear PCM.
(29) AUDIO
If multiple audio options are available for the AVI file or DVD to be played, this button can be used to
switch the selected audio option. In the file mode or while video or music is played, pressing this
button will switch the audio option.
(30) VOLUME (-)
Decrease the volume of the data being played. Normally, the volume should be set to the default
level of 4.
* When the digital audio data is being played, this function supports only for Linear PCM.

(31) SEARCH
You can specify the time or title/chapter and play
the DVD from the specified position.
(Both the title and chapter must be specified.)
(32) RELOAD Refresh the files in a folder.
(33) INFO
Display the information of the DVD, music CD or other medium being played, or information of the
repeat mode or other setting currently effective.
This button is disabled in the file mode.
(34) A-B
In the DVD mode, this button is used to repeat the specified range.
Pressing the button once will show "A POINT SET" on the screen.
Pressing it again will show "B POINT SET."
Thereafter, the segment between A and B will be played repeatedly.
When the button is pressed once again, the screen will show "AB REPEAT CLEARED" and the
repeat mode will be cancelled.
