1.Washvehiclesasnecessary.Alwayswashvehiclesthat
havebeenexposedtoroadsalt.
NOTE:WashingInstructions-Washthevehiclewithwarm
waterandmildsoap,thenwipewetsurfaceswithachamois
orsoftcloth.DONOTusehotwaterorstrongsoapsor
detergents.DONOTwashthevehicleindirectsun,orwhen
thesheetmetalishottothetouch.Thiswillstreakthenish.
DONOTwipedirtoffdrysurfaces,asthiswillscratchthe
nish.
NOTE:Whenvehiclesarestoredoutside,particularlyin
coastalareas(saltwaterandhighhumidityatmosphere)
orotherareasofcorrosiveenvironment,paintandbright
metalmayrequirefrequentwashingandwaxingtoprevent
deterioration.Determiningwashingfrequencyisthe
customer'sresponsibility.

2.Inspectpaintedsurfaces;touchupallexposedprimedorraw
metalareastopreventrust.
3.Applyathickcoatofwaxtopreventdiscolorationfromthe
elements;waxallchromeandstainlesssteelmetalparts.
4.Checktheradiatorcoolantforproperlevelandadequate
freezeprotection(-20°F[-29°C]isstandardformediumduty
modelsandbuschassis;-40°F[-40°C]isstandardforheavy
dutymodels.)
5.Drainairbrakereservoirsandclosethedraincocks.
6.Lubricateallexposedtransmissionandauxiliary
transmissionshiftrails.
7.Checkstate-of-chargeeyeinbatteriesandre-chargeif
opencircuitvoltageisbelow12.6volts.Disconnectbattery
groundcablestopreventaccidentalstarting,orparasitic
electricalloadsfromdischargingthebattery.
StorageDuration–OverOneMonth
Unitsinstoragelongerthanonemonthshouldbedrivenuntilthe
enginereachesoperatingtemperature:
1.Makesurealltiresareinatedproperly,andreconnect
batteries.
2.Checkallvehicleuidlevelsandllasrequired.

3.Startandrunthevehicleatfastidle,untilitreachesoperating
temperature.Toremovesurfacechargefromthebattery,
builtupfrompreviousstart-upsandshortidleperiods,
operatetheheaterand/orairconditioner,headlights,and
otheraccessoriesforseveralminutes.
4.Turnoffheaterand/orairconditionerandanyother
accessories;shutofftheheadlights.Parkthevehicleand
shutofftheengine.
5.PerformtheprocedureforStorageDuration-OneMonth
orLess,ifreturningthevehicletostorage.
NOTE:Afterevery30additionaldaysofstorage,perform
Items1through5.
StorageFacilities
1.Wheneverpossible,storevehiclesindoors,
protectedfromsunlight,inadry,wellventilated
area.Ifindoorstorageisnotavailable,select
storagelotstoeliminateconditionsthatcause
deterioration.
2.Parkawayfromtransformersand/orelectrical
motors,becausewhentheprotectivewaxintire
compoundcracks,ozoneintheairattacksthe
exposedareas.
3.Parkawayfromtrees,highweedsand/orgrass
topreventdamagefromtreeorweedsap,andto
minimizebirdandinsectstains.

Apre-tripinspection,inaccordancewithCommercialDriver’s
License(CDL)regulations,theDepartmentofTransportation
(DOT)andstateregulations,isabsolutelynecessarybefore
youcanbegintherstrouteoftheday.Theroutinecanvary
frombustobus,butitisessentialtohavearoutineandstick
toit.Thefollowinginspectionsmayincludechecksthatare
inadditiontotheCDLrequirements.Ifthepre-tripinspection
revealsaproblem,reportittotheservicedepartmentora
qualiedtechniciansothatitcanberepairedbeforeoperating
thevehicle.
Afterreturningfromyourdailyroutes,youmustcompletea
writteninspectionreportinaccordancewithCDLregulations.
Reportanyfaultsthatyound,oranyproblemsthatoccurred
duringyourtrip,totheservicedepartmentsothattheycanbe
repairedbeforethenexttrip.
NOTE:Makesureyourbusisinproperoperatingcondition
tokeepthepassengerssafe.
