Thismanualcontainsinformationconcerningtheoperationandfunction
oftheTirePressureMonitoringSystemmountedonthe9700US/CAN.
Illustrationsinthismanualareusedforreferenceonlyandmaydiffer
slightlyfromtheactualvehicle.However,keycomponentsaddressedin
thisdocumentarerepresentedasaccuratelyaspossible.

Introduction
Thisbookletisintendedtohelpthedriver
abouthowtooperateproperlyandtakecare
oftheTirePressureMonitoringSystem
(TPMS).
GeneralInformation
TirePressureMonitoringSystem(TPMS)
isasensingdevicedesignedtoidentifyand
displaytireoperatingdataandactivatean
alertorwarningwhenpressureortemperature
irregularitiesaredetected.
Note:Itistheresponsibilityofthedriver
toreactpromptlyandwithdiscretionto
alertsandwarnings.Abnormaltireination
pressuresshouldbecorrectedattheearliest
opportunity.

TPMSDisplay
TheTPMSdisplayknowswherethesensors
arelocated.Itreceivestherawtemperature
andpressurereadingsfromtheTPMS
receiver,itreadsseveralsignalsfromthe
vehicleanddoesthecalculationrequiredto
generatethevariousscreens.
Whennoreadingshavebeenreceivedfor
atirelocationorwhenthereceiveddata
correspondtoaparameterrangedenedas
unavailable,thenthereadingisconsideredas
notavailableandappearsastwodashlines
“__”
TheTPMSdisplayisinitiallyconguredfor
currentbus9700.
TheTPMSdisplayisalsoconguredwith
severalotherparameters,includingthreshold
levelsforthealarms.
TheTPMSdisplaypowersupplyturnsOFF
whentheignitionkeyisswitchedOFF.

Thesystemwillmonitorallvehicletiresplus
thesparetirewhenaspareissupplied.And
isconguredfor8tirestotal:twotiresin
frontaxle,4tiresondriveaxleand2tireson
tagaxle
Start-up
WhenturningtheignitionswitchtoON,two
screenappearsontheTPMSDisplay.Dash
linesaredisplayedmeaningthatnopressure
datahavebeenreceivedbythedisplay..
Asillustrated,thepressurereadingswill
appearreplacingthedashlinesastheTPMS
displaystartstoreceivepressuredatafrom
theTPMSreceiver.Itcantake1minuteto
getallpressurereadingsupdatedsincethe
sensorstransmitataoneminuteinterval.

Pre-TripCheck
Whenoneofthepreconditionsdenedto
startthepre-tripcheckismet,theTPM
displayentersintoapre-tripcheckroutine
andthescreenshownbelowappears.The
preconditionstoinitiatethepre-tripare:Park
brakeremovedOrNoactivityonthedisplay
menukeysforadenedtime(Keypressed
timeout).
Afterapretrip,thedisplayisina“drive”
modewithbottommenureplacedbythe
alarmstatus.Thedisplayremainsinthis
modeuntiloneofthefollowingoccurs:A
menukeyistouchedwhiletheparkbrakeis
applied,ortheparkbrakedoesatransition
fromreleasedtoparkbrakeapplied.

Duringthepre-tripcheck,thepressure
readingsforthedifferentwheelsbecomeall
available.
Thepre-tripcheckends,eitherwhen:the
pressurereadingshavebeenreceivedfor
allrunningwheelsorthepre-tripcheck
maximumtimehaselapsed.Itwasselectedto
providesufcienttimeforallwheelsensors
towake-upandsendarstreading.
Thepre-tripcheckisabortedandthebottom
menureappearsiftheparkbrakewasactive
andtheuserpressoneofthemenukeys.

Uponcompletionofthepre-tripcheck,the
TPMSdisplaywillcomeupwithoneofthe
followingscreens:

Arectanglearoundeachpressure/temperature
readingofthetiresthathaveanissueis
blinkingtodrawtheattentiontothedefective
tires.
Inthecaseofmultipleerrorsatthesame
time,thehighestpriorityerrorisdisplayed
atthebottom.“FlatTire”hasthehighest
priorityfollowedby“HighTemperature”,
“Notalltiresmonitored”and“Tirepressure
notOptimal”.
DANGER
Continuingtooperatethebuswitha
attireoratirewithexcessivelyhigh
temperaturesmayresultinablowoutor
tirere.Thiscouldresultinlossofvehicle
control,vehiclecrashandseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.

Togetthedriver’sattentiontothealarms,
thebottomsectionofthescreenwherethe
alarmmessageappearswillblinktoreverse
contrastatthefollowingrate:0.5secnormal
contrast,0.5secreversecontrast.Pressing
anykeywillacknowledgethealarmsthat
areconsideredasnoncriticalandstopthe
blinkingofthesealarmsmessageforthe
remainingofthetrip.Thenoncriticalalarms
are:“Pressurenotoptimal”and“Notall
tiresmonitored”.The“attires”and“high
temperature”alarmsarecriticalandwillkeep
blinkingevenwhenakeyispressed.Ifa
differentalarmoccurs,blinkingwillstart
again.Theblinkingrectanglearoundthe
pressure/temperaturereadingsisnotimpacted
bytheacknowledgementandkeepsblinking
untiltheerrorconditiondisappears.
Thesparetiredoesnotcontributetoalarms
andsoneverblinks.
Ontheroad,theTPMSdisplayshowsoneof
the5previousscreens.
Intheeventofatemperaturealarm,the
displayswitchesautomaticallytotemperature
readings.
Thedrivercanalsopressanyofthemenu
keystomomentaryswitchthedisplayto
temperaturereadings.Inthiscase,the
temperaturereadingappearsfor15seconds
andthedisplayreturnstopressure.
Theswitchingtotemperaturebypressing
akeydoesnottakeplaceifthereisan
acknowledgeablealarmactive,sinceinthis
casepressingthekeydoesacknowledgethe
alarm.
Theswitchingtotemperaturedoesnot
takeplaceeitherifthereisanalarmof
TemperatureorFlatTire.
Theswitchingtotemperatureworkswhen
thebottommessageindicateseither:Tire
PressureOK,PressureNotOptimalnon
ashingornotalltiresmonitorednon
ashing.Whentheswitchisdoneto
temperaturereadings,thebottomportionof
thescreenisnotaffectedandstillshowsthe
statusmessage.
Note:Hightemperatureisnotlikelytooccur
duringthepre-trip.
Thepressureandtemperaturereadingsare
continuouslyupdatedwiththedisplayed
readingsofthewheelhavingissuesblinking.
Thebottomlinemessageisautomatically
updatedtothehighestpriorityalarm
prevailing.Thereisahysteresisonthealarm
levelstoassurethattheerrorconditionsdo
notickerONandOFF.
Ontheoccurrenceofanalarm,abeepwill
sound.ThealarmbeepcouldbeturnedOFF
inthealarmsettingsmenu.

Sparetire
Thesparetireismonitoredbutitisnottaken
intoaccountwhensettingthebottomalarm
messages.Thisistopreventunnecessary
alarmsthatwouldotherwiseoccur,iffor
example,thesparetireisremovedfroma
vehicle.
Theuserwillhavethepossibilitytocheck
thepressureofthesparetirebyaccessingthe
TPMSdisplaymenu.Forvehiclesthathave
nosparetires,thetitle“sparetire:“willstill
appearonthescreensbutthepressurewill
remainwithtwodashlinesatalltime.
Afterthemanualactivationswitchhasbeen
activated,there“ALARM”lampblinks
andtheaudioalarmactivates.Thelampwill
remainblinkinguntilpoweriscycledtothe
system.untilpowerhasbeencycledtothe
system.

Whenparkingthevehicle(parkbrake
applied),theTPMSdisplaykeepthedrive
modedisplayactive.Thedrivercanpress
anykeystogetthebottomlinesshowingthe
statusinformationreplacedwiththemenus.
Thepressurereadingsarestilldisplayedand
updatedasnewreadingsarereceivedand
thereadingsareblinkingifnotwithinthe
optimumpressurerange.
Fromthispointtheusercanscrollthrough
themenustogetmoredetailedinformation
andinate/deatethetirestobringthemback
totheiroptimumtargetpressures.Scrolling
throughthesemenusisalsoavailableprior
todeparture.

Thedisplayremainsinthismodewiththe
menusappearingatthebottomuntilthe
pre-tripchecksequencestartsagain.
ScrollingdownbelowtheBatterylifemenu
willshowtheSettingsmenu.Highlighting
theSettingsandpressingOKallowsentering
thesettingsmenu.
HighlightingtheExitmenuandpressing
OKexitsthesettingsandcomebacktothe
pressuredisplaymode.
