1.Overview
1.1 Welcome to MSO
Congratulations for choosing the MSO Automatic Fingerprint Recognition Terminal. MSO
terminal provides an innovative and effective solution for applications using Fingerprint
Verification or/and Identification.
Among the many biometric sciences, the use of finger imaging has significant advantages.
Each finger is a unique physical signature developed before birth and is preserved until
death.
The MSO terminal integrates IDEMIA image processing and features matching algorithms .
This technology is based on lessons learned during more than 20 years of experience in the
field of biometric identification and the processing of literally millions of individual
fingerprint identification records.
We believe you will find the MSO terminal fast, accurate, and easy to use as a biometric
peripheral.
The MSO terminal offers the following advantages:
High quality optical scanner,
Software development suite (MSO SDK) for all MSO devices,
Key Management System (MSO KMS) for Secure MSO terminal,
False Finger detection (depend of product) ,
PC/SC Smart Card Reader (only available with MSO35x and MSO1350),
Compact size for easy installation and integration into your available office space,
Intuitive interface that is easy to use in both setup and operational modes.

2.MSO terminal installation
2.1 Safety instructions
The MSO terminals are intended for indoor use only.
The MSO terminals must be placed on a flat clear surface where it will not be at risk of
coming in contact with fluids.
2.2 MSO Hardware Platform Compatibility
The MSO USB devices are compatible with usual PC configurations, but we therefore
strongly advise you to perform a compatibility test with target PC hardware configuration.
The MSO USB devices are compatible with most of the self-powered USB hub available. But
we also recommend performing a compatibility test with target USB Hub.
Please note that USB hub powered only by the USB port, could provide not enough power
supply for a normal function of MSO USB devices.

2.3 Host system
2.3.1 Compatibility with Host System
The MSO biometric devices are compatibles with:
Windows™ platforms using the MSO SDK or ILV Protocol (see[R2], [R3] and [R4]) for
Windows™: Windows 7 and 10
Linux platforms using the dedicated MSO SDK or ILV protocol (see[R2], [R3] and [R4])
for Linux
Android platforms using MSO SDK or ILV protocol (see[R2]and [R3]) for Android
2.3.2 Installation of a MSO USB device (MSO3xx, MSO13x0)
The installation of a MSO USB device is performed in a few steps:
Install the MSO USB driver on the PC (please refer to MSO USB driver installation
section)
Connect the USB connector of the MSO USB device to a USB port of the PC.
Wait for USB enumeration process (usually not more than a few seconds).
Then the device is ready for use, for example: with the sample applications delivered with
MSO SDK (please refer to MSO SDK section).
2.3.3 MSO SDK
The MSO Software Development Kit provides the required elements to enable you to
develop your own applications for MSO devices. It is a usually delivered on a CDROM which
contains:
all the documentation required for MSO devices use and integration,
the MSO USB driver for Windows™ PC,
sample applications which enables to demonstrate the MSO functions
source files of sample applications
libraries (dll) and ActiveX with MSO device functions
To evaluate a MSO device we recommend the following steps on a Windows™ PC:
launch MSO SDK install,
connect the MSO device to a USB port, or to a RS232 port (MSO20x only),
run MSO_Login.exe or MSO_Demo.exe sample application,
select the MSO device to use,
try MSO device functions.
For more information on the MSO Software Development Kit, please refer to the
MorphoSmart™ SDK Programmer Guide document.

2.3.4 USB connection
A MSO USB device can be physically connected to other host than Windows™ PC, but the
‘MSO communication protocol over USB’ and a compatible USB driver must be developed
for the host system.
The integrated USB driver of the MSO terminal emulates a RS232 serial port. The MSO
terminal is processed as a Communication Device Class (CDC), in accordance with the "USB
Device Class Specifications, version 2.0" available from the www.usb.org web site, in
"developers, documents" section.
The MSO devices comply with the USB 1.1 standard. They operate in Full Speed mode (@12
Mbit/s) with USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 hosts or hubs.
The ‘MSO communication protocol over USB’, is described in the [R2] and [R4] documents.

4.3 MSO301 devices specificities
The MSO terminals of the MSOxx1 series have security enhanced features. These terminals
integrate a specific mechanism (IDEMIA patents) enabling the device to detect fake fingers,
such as paper copied ones.
MSO301 terminals include this mechanism.
The MSOxx1 must be connected to the ground to avoid erratic behavior, so USB hub must
provide a continuous ground between the input socket and the output socket.
4.4 Specific Cleaning Precautions
It is recommended to clean the sensor when it is dirty.
It is recommended to use a blowgun before rag in case users brought sand or hard
dust with their fingers. Use compressed gas for electronic devices to avoid
electrostatic discharges.
In order to eliminate organic marks, a weekly cleaning is required. In this case, using a rag
moistened with diluted dishwashing liquid is advised.
It is advised to clean the sensor after 1000 uses, with a lightly damp rag, to dry it and to
wait a few minutes before starting up again the terminal.
The cleaning material for sensor must be a soft material to prevent scratches:
Hard dust and sand can scratch products and can damage MSO xx1 OEM and
MSO301/351
To disinfect the terminal, moisten a non-abrasive wipe with the disinfectant Windex®
Multi-Surface (or similar product containing L-Lactic acid) and wipe the device’s surface and
leave the surface wet with disinfectant for at least 5 minutes.
Any other practices Scratch materials, bleach, chlorine, soda, alcohol, quaternary
ammonium, acid products, …permanently damage and/or negatively impact the
performances of the device. They can irreversibly damage the product.
4.5 Specific recommendations
We advise persons with pacemaker or other electronic disposals, against using the MSO
xx1 terminal.
