MiniProx (TM) Proximity Readers
DESCRIPTION
This proximity reader requires no contact between the card and the reader antenna. The MiniProx uses a passive card (the card has
no battery) that is activated when it enters the magnetic field around the reader. Maximum read ranges vary between 2.0 inches (5
cm) to 5.5 inches (14 cm), depending on local installation conditions and on the proximity card presented to the reader.
This proximity reader can be powered directly from the Series 9000Panel.
Adhere to all applicable municipal, regional or national codes and industry standards in all wiring and installation procedures.
COMPONENTS
The following items are shipped together:
•MiniProx reader with attached cable
•Two #6-32×1″self-tapping, Type T or 232, pan head screws
•IDenticard® Suppressor Kit (see page D-16, Series 9000 Hardware Installation Manual)
•Manufacturer’s installation manual
CABLE REQUIREMENTS
Five-conductor, 22 AWG, stranded with an overall shield. Shield is important and must be used. Maximum wiring distance is 800 feet
(243.8 meters).
POWER REQUIREMENTS
The operating voltage range of this reader is 4.75 VDC to 16.0 VDC with an absolute maximum voltage of 18.0 VDC. In most cases,
this reader will operate on the 9.6 VDC supplied by the Series 9000 Panel or CenturionBoard. A separate power supply is not
required.
IMPORTANT! Refer to the manufacturer’s installation manual (included) to determine the correct voltage specific to this
reader.
The DIP switch used to select the voltage for the desired reader port on the Series 9000 Panel or Centurion Board should be OFF –
set for 9.6 volts.
If you are wiring this reader to a prior-version Series 9000 Panel (non-ETL-listed panel), be sure that you remove the voltage
selection jumper for the desired reader port (set for 9.6 volts).

WIRING THE READER
The MiniProx reader has a short cable that ends in colored wires. Five of these wires are used to connect to the Series 9000 Panel.
The signals and corresponding colored wires are:
Data 0 Green
Data 1 White
+9.6 VDC Red
Ground Black
LED control Orange
You must splice this cable onto your reader cable. Connect the shield of the reader cable to ground at the panel. The reader may have
other wires that are not used. Be sure to insulate them from the others.
IMPORTANT! Do not cut these unused wires flush with the shield. If you do, they may short out to the shield or each other.
Connect the reader to the desired reader port on the Series 9000 Panel as shown in the top figure above or to the Centurion Board as
shown in the bottom figure.
TESTING THE READER
1. When all wiring connections are complete and it is safe to power the panel, power up the MiniProx reader. The LED should flash
three times, indicating that the microcontroller unit is operating properly.
2. Enable the reader in the software you are using (see page 5-10 of the IDentiPASS
 Setup and Operations Manual or page 3-1 of
the Series 9000 Operations Manual).

3. The LED will activate if the card number is programmed to pass. The reader will NOT indicate a failing card, but will send a
transaction to the PC. Verify that each card swipe produces a transaction.
